I think the retirement requirements have changed quite a bit. The government website says 60 years old and above, US $50,000 in your bank in Indonesia, and US $3000 deposited every month into your Indonesian bank account.

Java (outside big city like Jakarta and Surabaya) is arguably pretty affordable, most of area have minimum wage under $150. So $700 is mostly salary of manager or senior manager in some of local company. Again, that is outside big city like Jakarta or Surabaya. Also, Yogyakarta is capital of Indonesian student, as English speaker, you can easily get side job as teacher there.
Many Indonesians move to Yogyakarta when they get old, the city is comfortable for retiring in old age. Especially if you live in a house with large area of land under the foot of Mount Merapi (in the North of Yogyakarta). you can enjoy your old age by gardening, playing with the pets, take a walk to enjoy the beauty of nature, with cool air, plants and frowers that grow abundantly. The native people are very friendly, the food is delicious, and there are many arts and cultural activities that you can enjoy.** Note: if you stay in Jogja, look for a traditional wooden house that is more earthquake resistant, because Yogyakarta has a very active volcano.
