Nicaraguan here. I visited last year twice after being gone for 8 years. There are a lot areas where you can buy properties relatively cheap to the US. I live in Denver and it has gotten so expensive in the last 25 years. I agree with someone saying you would live comfortably with $1,200. Myself and some friends are looking to buy properties now and retire in a few years in Nicaragua, our money will go further. Good on Keith for finding a place where he can live well. Americans need to look more into these opportunities abroad because there are many countries where they can live with a lot less than the US.
Great video, the retirement minimum requirement visa is a recurring monthly income of $600.00, and they are at 113 on the Global Peace Index out of 163. Very safe is 1 to 53 and safe is 54 to 117. To live comfortably you might want to spend $1,200.00. The proximity to the U.S. is a definite plus...
You have some of the best videos with great, practical information, everything we want to know about, especially us retirees on fixed income social security. Thank you!❤
My wife is from Nicaragua and we lived there all of 2023. It is inexpensive if you dont use a/c. we had electric bills of $700 and protested...with no luck, and this was in Matagalpa, one of the coolest cities but still HOT. It is also very poor so skeleton street dogs, tremendous litter everywhere... People are friendly and some areas are beautiful but it is not for us. Costa Rica is expensive...lived there before... We are currently in Xela Guatemala in the cool mountains, and love it. Three modern malls, walmart, conveniences...as a couple we live big on $1600/month..
If you just go down south anywhere from Mexico to Argentina, people are friendlier/ eager to know you/ it is all about community/ they mostly care for you, unlike the USA, Is is all about Money/ goals/ about the Mighty dollar.
For those doing visa runs in Nicaragua, the first stamp is for 90 days but it is possible to get *two* one month extensions. After that, one needs to do the visa run outside of the Central America community (Costa Rica and Mexico are the two closest countries for visa runs).
You are missed,Surfer boy. Come back waiting for that promised visit Matagalpa orchids waiting too! Eco Center opened down the street! Massages Yoga Organic Restaurant over 600 type Orchids Garden!!!
Nah. When I go I stay in hostels for super cheap, like 10-15 a night, and most of those include breakfast. You can get nice hotel rooms for way less than 150.

This guy is not living in a really nice place. He's living Local-way. He said his bedroom is a hovel and he uses it for storage, and sleeps in his livingroom. I'm not knocking it, but you have to be living there for several months to find these type minimal places. If you want fancy, you will pay more.

Thanks for this info. The GPI ranks the US at 132. Scary.
Do you live there? Would love to ask a local a few questions if you’re game.
@@sphereme No, I am still in the States trying to gather enough information to decide where to go.
It's actually $1000 to $1250, depending on the category you qualify for.
Have you decided yet?

For how long? How long before you can claim to indefinitely stay.
@ Until you get a long term visa.
@boink800 Right, but in the USA, it takes 5yrs w an immigration attorney. That's why I asked for a more defined answer.
@@kookietherapy9398 You will never get a "defined" answer. If it happens, it happens.

Nicaragua un pais hermoso
To go there to visit the motels are like $150 per day. Not cheap
Or you could stay at a hostel for $10 a night. Cheap.
The best route would be to book an airbnb. You can find rates ranging from 30 on up.

In thailand You can find 2-3 acres for $20 usd month for life long lease or 30yr to build and use as yours.
$115 a year per acre to lease empty land
What part of Thailand are you seeing these apartment prices in? Thanks for sharing!
Keith, how does the situation involving the crazy US sanctions on Nicaragua affect the expats and retirement life?
@ It has zero effect. Zero.

He has permanent residency, but he needs to get it renewed every three months? What?
It's every 6 months. It's not a renewal. You just check in and let them know that you are still here and live in the same place.
@ Got it. Thanks. 😊
