Oil Pump Lost Its Prime

  • After an engine oil and filter service, a technician can’t get the oil pressure warning light to go out after 10 seconds of running and is not in the correct range.
    What is the MOST likely cause?
    A) The oil filter
    B) Wrong viscosity oil installed
    C) All the oil has run out of the pump
    D) Air trapped in the pressure sensor

    This trick saved me today.
    New oil pan, new pump....no pressure.
    Never experienced this before and doing this saved me hours of repeat work.

    Being a mechanic at a ford dealership for so long, Not fun doing the under 10 minute oil service on them 2.2 or 3.2L turbo diesel engines on ford's and bt50. Not even a sip of water at the wrong time will cause a fucking mess.

      I find the trick is to have everything ready to go and do oil filter change 1st as i don't need to rush that part as its not part of the 10 mins time limit.
      Then i drop the oil from sump let drain for 6 mins put sump plug back in then fill with oil 9L and start. Then top off the 800ml for the 9.8L total required.
      What brand and grade of oil are the ford dealships using for the 2021 px3 3.2L ?

    My 1994 ford ranger 2.3 does this after sitting for a few hours or over night. Drives me nuts.

      Have you checked the oil pressure sending unit? I had an '89 Ranger with a 2.3 and it started doing wierd oil pressure issues. The problem was not the oil pressure, but the sending unit being faulty.
