This is by far one of the best seascape paintings on youtube. Will you please put up a list of the colours and mediums used please? Or even a shot of the palette with them on would be awesome.
Thanks for watching and I'm glad that you managed to pick up some techniques. I find it hard to judge what needs more explanation as I believe a lot can be learned just by watching someone paint. I agree that the brand of paint or exact colour or brush type doesn't matter, it is up to the individual artist. Good luck with your switch to acrylics..
you are an art genius, maybe I have said it to quite some people, but I realize that, art is not only about being able to do perfect portraits but being able to show the beauty of nature in an artwork, keep it up
This was my favorite demonstration of creating waves to date it was simplified beautiful results. Thank you. I look forward to enjoying future demonstrations to learn from.
Appreciate getting the right side up version. No sound is necessary. There's too much junky discussion and music etc., going on in so many other tutorials, they lose focus, get distracting. I just appreciate seeing the artist do what they do best . . . paint! I learn by example.
Shawn...luv the 'cleaness' of your seascape. Formerly an oil painter I've switched to acrylics. Thx for the sharing your method, it helps a great deal.
Will do. Most of mine are are from directly overhead but I was trying out a new camera this time on a tripod. Apologies if you had to almost break your neck watching this! Cheers, Shaun.
That's cool in my grade 9 art class we have to take a painting off of the Internet and paint it onto a canvas. So I've been watching painting videos. You did a really good job. My strength is pencil sketches. I'm working on a transformer right now xD ironically for me. Great job!!
This is awesome! I wish you would post more often and periodically flash to your paint palate so we could see the colors you are using/mixing. I just love your work. Thank you for sharing.
Awesome! We painted a seascape in about 10 minutes...but we cheated and used a marble technique for the water using nail polish. It turned out pretty cool. Like your vid!
Very impressive - could you direct me to any videos that explain the layering process that painters seem to use? I've seen loads of awesome (photo realistic) paintings that start off with loads of seemingly random splurges of paint that slowly gets built up. So want to learn but finding it so hard - plus i'm using an iPad with procreate
Do you mean the horizon line? It is painters masking tape. The sky was dry before putting the tape down. drying time has been edited out in this video. The tape is then removed while the next layer is still wet so that any bleeds can be repaired.
Hi, I like to add a small amount of water either by thinning paint in advance, using a wet brush, pre-wetting the canvas, spraying with an airbrush as I work or a combination of these. You can also add flow medium which reduces the thickness of the paint without diluting it as much. I have read that acrylic paint can be thinned up to 50% but at that level it can become more like watercolours and will not cover a canvas effectively. Thanks.Shaun.
Nice! I learned something I have already in mind, but I didn't dare to do it. What I don't like are the waves in the front, especially the white shadows.
Beautiful. Loved watching you do the trees and the rocks especially. Thanks for the learning experience. How long do you wait for your paint to dry, before you apply the masking tape technique? Have you ever pulled the under painting off the canvas? I do prep my canvasses with gesso. Also, thanks for the tip about wetting the canvas first, and maybe using a flow medium to get such a smooth, blended sky. Cheers, from Atlanta, GA.
Wait as long as possible before applying the tape. I usually wait at least an hour, or use a fan to dry the paint faster. Sometimes if the canvas isn't well prepared or certain types of gesso can cause the paint to pull up with the masking tape. It has happened to me and can be very frustrating. Removing the tape very slowly and carefully can help. Cheers. Shaun.
that was very nice ,,, I don't understand why you would post something like this. No question you have talent but the whole concept was completely lost due to where the camera was placed.
Hi Shaun as a total beginner , i assume you keep the paint well thinned to apply it , or do you just use fair amount to get those sky and water effects - using wet brush ? - Surferdpix
Love, love, love your paintings, especially your trees! What color is the base color for the tree foliage... looks like black, but is it a dark green or is it black? Amazing how you draw the water line with the white!
Splendid work and video mine looks good ! I wish you would have talked about what you were doing so I could have gleaned more but all the same excellent video and work.
Very nice, beautiful. But the waves are not reflected in the water when the waves go, water is rough. and no reflections. And why is there only a reflection of the foam?
Thanks. Areas of highlight will reflect the most. In this case it is the foam, also the foam is raised above the surface of the water so is reflected in the water. The blue colour of the water is a reflection of the sky as water itself has no colour. Rough water may have less reflection, or a distorted reflection but all water will reflect light when viewed from an angle.
Shaun Ryan I think what Vas is getting at is that you have the waves coming into shore at regular intervals and the water in between the waves is glass smooth. What's the chances of that really happening? I would say, none. You are right that foam would reflect in the troughs, but the reflections should be broken up by the ripples that would be there. I do like the painting. Looks kind of Fantasy Islandish. Looks like a great beach to take a walk along with my Honey Bunny. :)
***** I see what you are saying. The way the reflections of foam were added is kind of a compromise in order to get the painting finished quickly and simply. I would usually continue to add detail with ripples, foam, broken reflections over a larger area of the water.
I really like that painting, your technique is very clean and you added things to the painting that made perfect sense. My only question is did you use acrylic or oil paint.?
Por favor, quais cores de tintas usadas? É acrílica? Os pincéis são que números? Ficarei grata se puder passar essas informações, muito obrigada ❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
did you use just one main colour then mix it with white to make it brighter or you use whole different colour on each thing? accept for the sky cause i saw that you use only blue and white. thankyou for the incredible painting idea and please do answer this cause i'm trying to make this for my school project. :))))
Hi, your paintings are so vibrant and crisp and I wanted to know what brand/type of paint you use and what you used to draw the curve of where the sand meets the water. Thank you for reading.
Hi, I use several brands such as Golden Acrylics and Atelier Interactive. For the area of wet sand I used burnt sienna with a mix of black and white to find the right value. I then blended over it with a mix of black and green to give an effect of a reflection coming from the trees. I hope that is what you meant. Thanks, Shaun.
We have acrylic paint in my school but it doesn't dry as fast, mayne like 10 minutes or so. Is it the same type of paint that you use? And also should i paint the cancas before i paint the real picture, like a base coat or something?
I have edited out some of the drying time. It can take 10 minutes or up to a few hours to dry, depending on the thickness. I also use a fan to dry the paint quicker. If the canvas has nothing on the surface then you should paint it with white gesso primer. That will stop the paint from being absorbed into the canvas fabric.
Very good ... but why can't we see it straight on & not sideways ? Got a crick in my neck after about 15 mins .... but altogether a good clear tutorial . Oh & where did you go at 21;03 ????
great painting. what's trick to getting such a clean blend on the sky - I notice you use a flat brush with white stuff on it. is this white paint, guesso or something else?
Start with a course brush with stiff bristles and work your way to finer brushes or a synthetic fan brush. Wet the canvas surface and your brushes before starting and work quickly. That is white paint on the brush but gesso can also be used.
This is by far one of the best seascape paintings on youtube. Will you please put up a list of the colours and mediums used please? Or even a shot of the palette with them on would be awesome.
I liked the painting but the artist could have talked during the demo explaining the colors and brushes and strokes.

Best 30 minutes I spent in a while. You are truly gifted, friend. Definitely sharing that one. Thank you.
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it.
Brilliant painting, depth, colour and light. Thanks for the demo
Your water is so crazy gorgeous. Your reflection work is so good! Hopefully I'll be at that level sometime soon.
Appreciate getting the right side up version. No sound is necessary. There's too much junky discussion and music etc., going on in so many other tutorials, they lose focus, get distracting. I just appreciate seeing the artist do what they do best . . . paint! I learn by example.
Thank you for a wonderful demonstration. Your artwork is beautiful
Love it! It's beautiful and looks so realistic! Cheers from Italy! :)
