As an autoimmune patient, totally agree with this. I’ve had a battle with my doctors here in Canada when I stopped the chemo in 2020. I was very sick, and mostly steroids allow me to move and breath again, but it cause lots of side effects, and the other medication even worse. I changed my diet radically, and incremented D3, complex B, C, and Magnesium. Today in remission for over 2 years. Thank you Dr Berg 🙏🏻

One thing no one ever says is Vit. D is fat soluble. I worked outside every day for 6 years. I took 50,000 IU of vit. D daily, I always tested deficient. Recently a young lady taking my blood said, You need to take some kind of oil like olive, Avacado or coconut oil when taking Vit. D. Since I started doing that, I feel a huge difference in ability to think again.

My mom had a Vitamin D deficiency for years and didn't know it until a few years ago. Her calcium levels were also believed to have been low for an extended time, which led to soft bones (unsure if low calcium was related to low Vitamin D levels over time). She devoted her life to servitude as a Nurse. Just over a year ago she got out of the car, twisted her foot on a rock, and broke it. She had to have surgery and the doctors could not even get the screws to go into her bone because of how soft it was. Only ten days after surgery, she died suddenly at 58 YOA of what is believed to have been a blood clot that went to her lung(s). I was visiting her only three days before her death and she asked me to rub her feet with a warm cloth due to low circulation. This was a very unusual request from her, but I am thankful for that moment because it was the last time I saw or talked to her.

My mom used to have this rare disease called dermatomyositis. It was quite awful, she had lots of pain in her joints, weak muscles (heart included) and other unpleasant symptoms. After years of taking steroids and fighting with it conventionally she started taking huge doses of Vit D. It took approximately 1,5 years for her to fully recover and at the age of 76 (after 20 years of struggle) her doctor told her (quite surprised) she was completely fine and no longer suffering from this autoimmune disease… I might add that not a single doctor throughout those 20 years ever told her or even remotely suggested she should supplement Vitamin D. It was our own idea to increase levels of this particular vitamin due to Covid and also because we read a lot how it can be beneficial in any kind of autoimmune diseases…

In just one year my beard grown flourished. I also started on Zinc. Now I take Vitamin 2000 IUs of D3, 50 mg of Zinc, 4 grams of Vitamin C, and a multi vitamin. All those help boost and maintain testosterone levels. Men, if you are struggling with low testosterone it could be from vitamin deficiencies. Try these vitamins and minerals. Frozen shoulder is brutal. My right shoulder took 18 months to resolve. Now, a year later, I have it in my left shoulder. I’ve been taking Vit D for years so I’m not sure it it would have been worse without, but I started taking Vitamin K2 and now, after only 6 months, my left shoulder is starting to improve. I can now put deodorant on, which I couldn’t even do before and getting dressed is becoming easier. I feel like I’ll be fine within the next couple of weeks, so much faster this time. I feel like it’s the K2 that helped. Also, it’s a good idea to take K2 along with D3 anyway. Best of luck to you and be patient. Know that it will eventually resolve….it just takes time. Once you hit your peak, it’s starts getting slightly better every day, albeit very slowly.

K2 should always be taken along with vitamin D. Vitamin D increases the absorption of calcium from the intestines. A high serum blood calcium level can cause both kidney stones and arterial calcium deposits.
Also most kidney stones are calcium oxalate stones. Oxalate ( not calcium or vitamin D) may be causing your kidney stones. Try a low oxalate diet and have your serum vitamin D and calcium levels drawn.

Hashimotos and type 1 diabetic here. Thankfully supplementation works for me. Using a functional doctor, I am tested in various areas, and more frequently, than allopathic doctors would do. It is easy to see if something is working or not just via new supplementation and follow up blood work.
I keep my A1C around 5 - 5.2 ( my doctor wants it a bit higher?) and my vitamin D level around 85. Thank you doctor Berg for all the keto information and recipes throughout the years. Recently did a metabolic test, where they hook up a few wires, then another test where your nose is plugged and you breathe into a tube for 10 minutes. Interesting results - shows BMI, hydration status, percentages of fat, bone and muscle and then, your metabolic rate ( slow, normal, fast) - how quickly you use or burn calories.
We expect to lose muscle as we age, but I was surprised to see that at age 67, I had not lost any muscle in the last seven years ( last time tests were done) and I have a fast metabolism, 65% faster than other people my age. No doubt part of this is genetics but I also believe much of it is due to following Dr Bergs diet suggestions.

Thank you for making such an informative video!!! My GP found that I had a severe vitamin D deficiency (11) as I was diagnosed with relapsing polychondritis. He prescribed a weekly dose of 50,000 ui of Vitamin D. The rheumatologist doesn’t believe there’s a connection but I decided to take vitamin D instead of Prednisone and all the inflammation has since cleared. Vitamin D does so much more for our bodies than some doctors wish to believe. Even when there are so many studies that show there is a direct link. Thank you!!

Makes sense. I was taking Bach Flower remedies in the 1980s and experimented with Wild Oat. This brought out a bout of Grover's Disease. I worked outside a lot in Miami, getting intense sun and enjoyed the beach too. It is easy to reason that I was getting vitamin D resistence to adapt to the massive amounts vitamin D I was manufacturing. I am still farming i Thailand at 16° North latitude, but I now take zinc to heal my skin from all of the shedding of cells and to grow my hair stronger to resist the sun. I will now do intermittent sun fasts like you recommend fasting for insulin resistence. If that doesn't reset things, I will follow up with non solar sources of vitamin D in therapeutic doses.

I ignored his advice and never went back to his office. I used caution in the sun, but honestly I never felt bad after being in the sun at moderate levels. Actually, I feel better when I get some sun exposure…vitamin D naturally.
I had a parathyroid issue, too, which created calcium to circulation in my blood stream and in turn caused harding of the arteries. At age 55 I had open heart surgery: mitral valve replacement, heart aneurism, triple bypass. I was told the heart damage was a result of inflammation and rheumatic fever when I was a child. Now, I have to take Warfarin and cannot take K2, but I do take 10,000 iu of Vitamin D3 daily. I have no evidence it helps, other than I seem to feel better

    Dr. Berg,
As much as I like your videos and advice, this video concerns me. When discussing some of the factors involved in this video, certain information and advice should be given:
    1. If someone has elevated Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) they should immediately get blood and urine calcium testing to rule out Primary Hyperparathyroidism. High vitamin D doses in the presence of Primary Hypoparathyroidism can cause strokes.
    2. Genetic testing is available to determine the existence of Vitamin D Receptor (VDR) anomalies.
    3. According to your consistent advice regarding Vitamin K usage alongside Vitamin D supplementation, where is this in the protocol recommended?

Okay. I think my body is dying. I’m 27, pretty much bed bound, high inflammation and autoimmune markers. I have fevers constantly and constant nausea and muscle weakness/numbness/tingling and migraines but rheumatologists can’t diagnose what’s wrong. Was just on steroids for 3 days and had to stop because I felt even worse. I am going to try this. If anyone’s interested in how I do feel free to remind me of this comment in a few months and I’ll update. Wish me luck lol

I have Ankylosing Spondylitis and Hashimotos. My Vit D levels use to be in the single digits and barely moved with my Rx of 50,000 iu/week. After watching Dr. Berg and ordering his Vit D w/ Vit K I take 20,000 iu a day and feel so much better. I check my Vit D level every 6 months and the last one was 43. I would like it a little higher but I just wanted to show I take high dose Vit D and nowhere near Vit D toxicity.

Mine was 23 and within 5 months it was 62 and I'm taking 4000 IU per day. Absorption is the key I guess.

I was having issues with histamine intolerance for over a year and getting terrible itchy rashes all over my back and chest. It was so embarrassing I wanted to hide. After less than 6 months of intermittent fasting and taking high doses of vitamin D3 and K2 and going out in the sun regularly with the addition of a uvb tanning bed occasionally, all of my symptoms are gone and have been gone for a couple of months!! I was taught to hide from the sun and lather myself in sunscreen which resulted in a severe vitamin d deficiency!!! I’m no longer a sunscreen user and now wear sun clothing when I’m getting too much sun. This has been completely life changing for me. I can now enjoy spinach, avocado, dairy, berries and wine without the terrible rashes! I have my life back! Thank you Dr. Berg!

It takes time to heal, but don’t give up!! It’s worth it to keep going.

When you have hypercalcemia it can be because of (primary) hyperPARAthyroidism due to an adenoma (benign tumor) on one (or more) of the parathyroid glands (or due to hyperplasia) and then you have to be very cautious supplementing with vit D.
