    Dr Berg notes
    1. People often wonder what time of the day they should take their supplements. Taking your supplements in the morning can give you the energy you need for the day. Avoid taking electrolytes before bed and calcium supplements before eating. Some people benefit from vitamin D supplements in the morning, while some benefit from taking them before bed.
    2. Avoid swallowing too many supplements at once!
    3. Introduce supplements one at a time to learn what works and doesn’t for your particular health problem.
    4. Supplements won’t work if you have a poor diet. Make sure to get enough protein and limit your carbs.
    5. Cheap vitamins contain cheap ingredients. Many cheap supplements and daily vitamins contain calcium carbonate, the type of calcium found in cement. They also contain fillers and dyes! Synthetic vitamins, except niacin and benfotiamine, often have side effects and should be avoided.
    6. Avoid taking supplements and drugs together at the same time for the same problem.
    7. Certain vitamins work synergistically with others, so you have to take those particular supplements together. For example, if you’re taking high doses of vitamin D, you must also take adequate magnesium. Similarly, high doses of zinc over time can cause a copper deficiency.
    8. Don’t take advice about supplements from people who don’t know the data.
    9. Many people don’t take a high enough dosage of their supplements to see results. You often need to take more than the RDA to produce a therapeutic effect.
    10. If you’re a vegan, you must take supplements to prevent deficiencies. Vitamin B12, vitamin D3, omega-3s, iron, zinc, iodine, and calcium are all vital for your health.
    11. Use the correct dosage of your supplement to see results. Your paracrine/autocrine system needs about 10,000 IU of vitamin D daily!
    Thank you Dr Berg!

My doctor tried to kill me.Put me on 30 mg of crestor then waited to see how long it would take for me to be diabetic.I suffered debilitating back pain, inflammation in BOTH rotator cuffs, then NAFLD.Yes I was diagnosed with pre diabetes after 18 months, and sky high BP.When I enquired about taking milk thistle for rejuvenation of my liver,I was poopooed.I quit him,and researched EVERYTHING myself.1 year later my health is restored and I'm flourishing.70 YO female carnivore.I take Vit D3,K2,and magnesium.I would NEVER discuss supplements nor nutrition with a 'DR' agan,EVER.

Wow, it amazes me how horribly ludicrous most doctors are. I'm so sorry you had to go through this. It would be nice to find an intelligent doctor, but that is so hard to do.
One of my worst experiences is when I was pregnant and asked about prenatal vitamins and was told the baby doesn't take anything from me. I could not believe what I was hearing. That was the only time I saw that doctor. Another was when a doctor told me I don't need vitamin K for my osteopenia. They are crazy.

I loved that phrase: "there is a difference between learning and understanding, and memorizing. They are not the same thing" So true, I have always noticed there are people that can spend decades in their field and still remain incompetent because they are just there for the paycheck. Then there are those that are dedicated and passionate about what they do.

I'll be making sure I don't do that again. 2) take all your vitamins early in the day... I've been taking my vitamins that don't require food in the morning, because I don't eat breakfast and all the rest with dinner. So, today I made sure to take them with my lunch and it is now 7:15 pm and I'm not wishing it was bedtime. Now, I will definitely be taking them much earlier in the day. Thank you for all your videos... you have helped me more times than I can count. You're definitely a life safer... literally.

We are a family of nurses but my mom is not. I told her to stop listening to her doctor pushing to lower her cholesterol and putting her on statin. She did anyway, after doubling her dose, my mom almost died. She developed muscle pain and muscle loss in two weeks! She ended up in the ER and also showed signs of dementia as I am sure her brain mostly made up of fat, is greatly affected. This took 2 months to resolve even after stopping one week of double dose statin. She is so scared of taking statin now and is back to normal. We thought she would be chairbound and just deteriorating mentally and physically.

Dr. Berg, you've convinced me to quit drinking all high caffeine sports drinks with sugar ,MCT oil etc. The brand that I used had 300 mg of caffeine in each. I didn't realize how extremely dangerous they are especially for people like me with coronary plaque and I am 61. I've been feeling sick over the weekend because I have a painful Inguinal hernia and I haven't eaten since Friday because the extra weight in my intestines seems to make it more difficult to go down. So, I have fasted since Friday minus electrolytes and water. Not even drinking coffee. Anyway, I wanted to thank you for the post about the sugary highly caffeinated drinks. I never would have dreamed that a coke was healthier then a 300 mg sugary caffeinated drink. which is what I had sometimes 3 x a day....playing with fire like that for sure..should be common sense huh? I had a problem with low vit D. One time it was 17 on my blood work. I was taking a ton of vit D3 and also taking fish oil. A different Dr suggested sardines for a different problem. All my joints stopped hurting so fast I didn't even realize it was the sardines at first. Next blood work vit D was 130 (which is getting close to high). I stopped taking all oil and vit D supplements, and just kept eating sardines once a week. Vit D has been at 100 two years in a row. Those sardines changed my life. Don't buy the cheapest ones, and make sure they are in water, not oil. I pour off the juice for my pets and consume the fish. They don't stink and actually taste better than tuna.

Dr. Berg, thank you again for another great video. You're easy to listen to and you're spot on in so many of your observations. I'm 62, very fit and active every single day. I was taking supplements regularly for years and then I fell off the wagon. Mainly because I was so healthy, I forgot to maintain. About a month ago I attended a multi-day event which involved some stress, alcohol, and travel. When I returned home I was drained and tired for several days. That was unusual for me, but I ignored it and resumed my regular active life. Big mistake, I came down with shingles! Then I binged a few Dr. Berg vids and got on a regimen of L-Lysine, D3+K2, B12, C. Combo'd with oat and epsom baths, and staying home with a good book... the shingles thankfully never really "blossomed". I'm 95% recovered but still forcing myself to keep resting until I'm 100%. I definitely will stay on the wagon with the supplements this time.

I never realized how important timing and quality were, or the risks of mixing certain supplements with medications. The insight about synthetic vitamins, the right doses, and potential drug interactions is so helpful! Dr. Berg, just a small adjustment. ELECTROLYTES do not push water out of the body, rather keep the body cells saturated with fluids. Pure water makes you go to pee, but if you add little salt, potassium, magnesium, no need to go to urinate during the night as much. Personal experience is the same in my case. Same in case of workout at the gym. Pure water does not saturate the body as properly as electrolyte mix.
I can also relate to swallowing too many supplements at once without enough water ... the I-am-gonna-die phase is real 😅
For everyone, always take PROBIOTICS at least 2 hours after taking ANTIBIOTICS.

I feel like with most supplements, as you gradually increase the dosage, so do the symptoms of the deficiency improves.
But then there's some that really feel like an "all or nothing" situation. Where if the dosage is too low, you may feel no difference at all. But if it's high enough, you can feel a drastic improvement.
A big one for me was Vitamin E Tocotrienols. Very expensive in my opinion, I only took the recommended dosage for a year and barely felt a difference. But once I doubled the dosage, OMG the chest pains that I would get throughout the day are gone. Once you've had a heart attack, having any subtle to major chest pains throughout the day can be quite traumatizing and make you kinda paranoid. Tocotrienols may be quite expensive, but now that I've gotten the full experience/ improvements. I can definitely say that it's one of the few expensive supplements that is well worth it for me.

      @makers_lab 3 місяці тому +3

Yes K2 is crucial, but it's not that simple, as it needs to be in the trans form and not the cis form. Some manufacturers are mute about this, and worse, in studies that have tested a variety of suppliers, the amount of trans k2 can be woefully low. A 2016 study even reported that a third of K2 only products they tested contained no K2 at all. I couldn't find a reference now, but I'm pretty sure that K2 trans, such as found in natto, can turn in the inactive cis isomer during processing, and so companies claiming that their K2 is guaranteed to be 100% trans form because it's derived from natto could be false unless they test what they're actually putting in the bottles. So along with taking K2, I think it's important to get calcium levels checked to make sure they're not going up due to K2 not working or being at an incorrect dosage.

When it comes to potassium, since it's kind of hard to get enough from the diet and even supplements (outside of electrolyte powders which often have some fillers and other ingredients you don't want), recently I added potassium chloride (salt) to the himalayan salt I was using mainly just to get more potassium out of the diet and I feel better.
It has also some sodium chloride + potassium iodide (very small percentages, under 1%), but the main is potassium chloride and now I use the himalayan just as a finishing salt. Obviously, not every meal needs salt and you should be careful with it, but I think that is some unexpensive and safe way to increase your potassium intake.
When it comes to supplements overall, right now I only take omega 3 or cod liver oil (I switch them up, I use Rosita Cod Liver Oil), vitamin d3 + k2 (Viridian) and magnesium bisglycinate (Viridian). Viridian is a good brand, I think, though It is somewhat expensive, because their dosage is usually lower (and I just take 2-3 capsules of vitimain d3 rather than 1), but if I trust the ingredients list, they don't have any crap in it. There are some other obscure brands that seem to have quality supplements, but you need to make your own research, because too many brands use magnesium stearate, sillicon dioxide and other caking agents, fillers and crap that you need to avoid..

I have noticed that if I don’t fall asleep, I do have to pee. Sometimes I drink an entire liter. Unrelated to vitamin but it’s really nice to be properly hydrated while sleeping.

Have you thought of a cool water vaporizer for the bedroom?

@@twobearshomestead No, it’s not hot enough for me to buy one. I really like the fact that I’m only slightly thirsty when I wake up

Also probably you sleep with your mouth open. And then you only need to take one mouthful of water and swish it around your mouth for a bit. Don’t drink too much before bed
