Really cool to see how in the span of 2 years we went from "tons of garbage cheap famiclones" to "approaching the ability to play n64 full speed with dual analog, plenty of buttons, a killer screen, and super cheap price" Wonder if we'll start seeing a surge of indie devs hop onto developing for these eventually? That'd be really cool. Definitely a market for it.
Not so sure about this "progress". I bought a Dingoo A320 like a decade ago and it does everything this thing does except emulating n64 and psx, and the screen was also that low resolution 320x240 back then. Is there a leap? For sure but a ten year leap? No way. We didn't even have smartphones back then, and the ones we have today are much more capable than this console , have a better and higher resolution screen, longer lasting battery and, besides, do a whole lot of other things. You miss the physical buttons? Just buy a compatible controller. I understand that it's neater to have buttons and screen on the same device, like a well built console. But I certainly don't see the deal on buying this cheap Chinese consoles that haven't changed in more than a decade
@@Linkale_ I mean, if its 60 bucks or below, thats genuinely not a bad deal. Thanks for the video!! OPINION ON COLORS: I think one color option needs to be opaque black with or without another color as an accent/button color. The purpose being to give an equivalent to "cinema mode" on a video player where all around the screen is pitch black to allow all focus to be on the game screen without the color or design of the handheld causing any distractions from immersive gameplay. I think the smaller the device, the more important this is.

Thanks for the video! Happy you went in-depth about the d-pad. I'd prefer you to prioritize 60fps for the main video. I don't know if 4k specifically boosts your viewcount, though, but if so, keep it there!
I only do the 4k so I don't get aliasing from these screens. If they didn't do that, I could record in 1080p and my export time would be next to nothing ;)
Illusion of Gaia was one of my favorite SNES games back in the day. This device looks pretty great, thanks for the review. I'd definitely buy it in black.
Something I didn’t see mentioned: Are the buttons the same size as the original pocket go? I pre-ordered the pg2 and would like to use the rainbow buttons on it from the pg1.
I am having a heck of a time figuring out how to format a 2nd micro SD card to use for roms. Reddit and forums offer practically no guidance on this. Could you make an instructional video showing how to do that?
Grab a 32GB or less SD card and format it to FAT32 using windows (right click -> format). If you use a larger one you'll have to use an external program to format it to FAT32. Once it's formatted just drag and drop your roms and it should work.
So I noticed your first link has the image of the device with “play go” on the screen frame, and the second link has an image with the frame of the screen reading “pocket go”. Are these separate manufacturers of the same device? They’re priced the same. And seem to be the same hardware. I’m just cautious buying from foreign websites, but I really want to get one and will be using your link to do so.
There’s a lot of cool games I saw during your review! Is there a list of the games shown that you can provide? Especially the shooters at 0:23 seconds in. Great video man. I placed an order a couple weeks ago. I’m excited for it.
Rafael Alvarenga thanks. Got it. But I can only play it where I have to turn my pocketgo on it’s side. Is there a way to rotate the screen? Like in the emulator options?
Happy to say I was able to get a pre order in for 55. All thanks to your video. And hey, I even managed to keep my pants on! Shirt didn't make it though...
For me, I think a light gray would be a good color for it. Something maybe a tiny bit darker than a PS1. Would hide dirt. Red would be good with the input buttons, but I would say maybe a yellow and blue or something for the abxy. Black wouldn’t be bad either.
Hi Taki! Does it have rumble? I own RG350 and it has now become my number one choice in playing my favorite PS1 game, Vigilante 8 2nd Offense due to the vibration feature. :) Also, although most PS1 games admittedly don't require a right analog stick, this particular component becomes extremely useful for shmup games (running on FBA) that utilize TATE mode (i.e., vertical/portrait screen where you physically rotate your console 90 degrees ala-Nintendo Switch) like DonPachi, Batsugun, and Espgaluda to name a few. Yes you can play them in landscape but as shown in @0:18 for DoDonPachi, you do lose some screen real estate. But in fairness I think this has a more premium build than the RG350 and looks to have a better IPS screen. I also own the GPi Case and I personally think its screen is more vibrant than the RG350. I love them both though!
I like it. A small improvement could be making the 'menu, select and start-buttons' the same color as the case. For this unit that would be white; I think it would look better.
Great review as usual, well done Taki. Do you think we will get the definitive edition when ordered on retromini site ? We can see the menu start select icons on your video and not on the site : s.
I'm new to the channel and this is my 4th video, and I must say you're doing a great job. I just have one question, do these portable units come loaded with the emulators/games? or is this something the user has to do once you purchase it?
I really like your channel, it is the only one in this genre which I subscribed. I think though that your otherwise super accurate reviews are not mentioning battery life enough. Like how does this unit compares to its competitors from this point of view? Letting some emulators run and see how much they do last would be super useful in my opinion. Also, is there any chance that these will work in multiplay, emulating a link cable? Thanks so much for reading.
Partially because there are three of these that run the exact same software and two that have the same chip with basically identical batteries, so it's always the same thing. Beyond that, your battery life also is a reflection of what you are doing on the system, so it's easier just to say that you should hit more than four hours in any situation. The only device that can support what you are saying would potentially be the RG350, but they haven't implemented anything like that yet.
@@TakiUdon Thank you so much for your reply. What I mean with stress-testing the battery is getting an overall idea. This video here ua-cam.com/video/ebWhGNysFMM/v-deo.html inspired me to get the odroid-go for instance. Thanks!
Thanks yet again for a another great review. The more I see this the more likely I will buy one for myself, I only had a question about something. I know the screen is more optimal for playing games than watching a movie, but is it possible to watch one if you would like?
Better reviewer open source consoles, much better than a certain Eta Prime for example, which lacks objectivity (like the pocket go v1 for example) Blue thumb! 👍
I'm considering buying this console, looks incredible for its price and performance! Just a question, is there a way to enable a pixel perfect aspect ratio on GBx games and the SNES?
Thank you for the in depth review Taki, you've been doing great work with all these. I'm glad the joystick is low profile, I was a little worried about that as I'd much rather use a d pad for the type of games I want to play on the go. As far as colors, I really liked the matte black model they showed in early test builds... If they spiced it up with some red buttons I think that would look amazing
Thank you for another great review! You say you use an sd card to swap between devices. Which devices can you also use that rom sd card with? It keep saved etc then? Is it more difficult to add your roms than ldk, pocket go etc? Keep up the amazing work!!
my device just came in the mail today can confirm my unit has the faulty d-pad issue (left AND down direction sometimes needs a tad more pressure to activate)
willisfrkz I bought the PlayGo hoping it would be a bit better with the manufacturing but I too have issues with pressing down and also 2 of my face buttons.
Great review! ^_^ I will say from my stand point if they did it in black and red I would probably buy two units lol. But being able to choose a custom color would also be epic.
I'm still hoping for some day, one of these devices to have sleep/hibernate mode. It's not a dealbreaker, but it would be such an amazing quality of life improvement.
11:16 - how long does the battery last at what brightness? (and to reiterate: I think that a GBA purple colour version and orange colour version scheme might be more interesting than the colours you mentioned, idk.)
Because of your previous videos on the pocket go 2, I preordered one from the first batch of preorders. Sadly though it will probably be delivered while I am out traveling.
I like this review, good points outlined, here. I especially appreciated the dual joysticks issue potential. Also the manufacturer vs. branding/distributing companies issue. That tells me some may just use the shell & sub their own saftware, firmware hardware, but most probably won't bother. I'd been wondering about that with the handhelds coming from China. Nice modding, fixing the D-pad issue, too. Thanks!
I just got mine in the mail couple days ago It's heavier than the rg350 mostly all the games and applications work Apps and emulators that were made for the ding ua320 or the gcw zero work to as long as it's opendingux I like the fact that it has two memory card slots on the front of it one for the OS operating system and one for the external SD I like the fact that it has a removable battery cover With the rg350 you have to take the screws out and the battery is attached to the inside cover either buy sticky tape or adhesive Even though the pocket go only has one speaker it is much louder than the rg350 And you can't beat the price they just raised the price now to $69 or just still good but I paid $59

Great review! Subbed. Which do you prefer the Retro Game 350 or the Pocket Go 2? Thanks!
Bought it because of your review. Thanks!
While I still prefer the size of original the SD and battery situation makes this looks awesome
Is there going to be an LDK 2?
I personally don't know what the ship besides that it will come branded as Pocket Go.
If I already preordered on retromimi, I wonder if I’m still able to choose what color unit I want.
I'm new to the channel and this is my 4th video, and I must say you're doing a great job. I just have one question, do these portable units come loaded with the emulators/games? or is this something the user has to do once you purchase it?
That's what I'm wondering. Do the games come pre installed, because I don't want to do all that stuff.
U waited awhile for this bud. finally get to see the review. : D
I ordered it because I need a handheld to get my retro game backlog cleared during my commute to work every day
Thank you Taki. I have mine on order ☺️☺️☺️
Hey Taki what handheld device would you recommend for MAME games
Thanks!
Hey taki! amazing review as always! one question that i think you didnt cover, what is its battery life? thanks!
Thanks yet again for a another great review.
The more I see this the more likely I will buy one for myself, I only had a question about something. I know the screen is more optimal for playing games than watching a movie, but is it possible to watch one if you would like?
Better reviewer open source consoles, much better than a certain Eta Prime for example, which lacks objectivity (like the pocket go v1 for example)
Blue thumb! 👍
I'm considering buying this console, looks incredible for its price and performance! Just a question, is there a way to enable a pixel perfect aspect ratio on GBx games and the SNES?
You can use 1x1 in most emulators with black bars.
@@TakiUdon Wonderful news then!! Thanks a ton for your help! I'll wait for the AliExpress shop to restock :)
Great video, really enjoying your channel. Critique tho, I find the voice over audio a bit too boomy (too much bass imo)
I'll pass it along!
What’s the name of this game?
0:39
Also what consoles did he emulate throughout the video?
0:18
@@franciscobutte lol i didn't notice it
Donpachi and dondon pachi. Use mame 2003-2205 or fba
Thank you for another great review!
You say you use an sd card to swap between devices. Which devices can you also use that rom sd card with? It keep saved etc then?
Is it more difficult to add your roms than ldk, pocket go etc?
Keep up the amazing work!!
Recalbox and retropie for example on Retroflag Nes Pi , Super Pi or Mega Pi cases etc...
But not share with Retro Game 350?
PocketGO 2 vs Gpi Case I’m trying to decide between the two. Any opinion? Also red would be 🔥🔥
Gpi case your stuck with raspberrypi zero ... which runs, ok. This all day.
Alexander Limpin good lookin 👍
my device just came in the mail today
can confirm my unit has the faulty d-pad issue (left AND down direction sometimes needs a tad more pressure to activate)
willisfrkz I bought the PlayGo hoping it would be a bit better with the manufacturing but I too have issues with pressing down and also 2 of my face buttons.
Great review! ^_^
I will say from my stand point if they did it in black and red I would probably buy two units lol. But being able to choose a custom color would also be epic.
Sorry to bother you. How do you suspend the RG350? I'm on the latest CFW.
Depends on the brightness level
Because of your previous videos on the pocket go 2, I preordered one from the first batch of preorders. Sadly though it will probably be delivered while I am out traveling.
I like this review, good points outlined, here. I especially appreciated the dual joysticks issue potential. Also the manufacturer vs. branding/distributing companies issue. That tells me some may just use the shell & sub their own saftware, firmware hardware, but most probably won't bother. I'd been wondering about that with the handhelds coming from China. Nice modding, fixing the D-pad issue, too. Thanks!
I bought mine yesterday. Now I am sitting here and waiting till it arrives in Germany and I hope I don't have to pay an extra ten euros.
Ordered 2 days ago from retromimi and now waiting in Amsterdam...
I just got mine in the mail couple days ago
It's heavier than the rg350 mostly all the games and applications work
Apps and emulators that were made for the ding ua320 or the gcw zero work to as long as it's opendingux
I like the fact that it has two memory card slots on the front of it one for the OS operating system and one for the external SD
I like the fact that it has a removable battery cover With the rg350 you have to take the screws out and the battery is attached to the inside cover either buy sticky tape or adhesive
Even though the pocket go only has one speaker it is much louder than the rg350
And you can't beat the price they just raised the price now to $69 or just still good but I paid $59
Thiz iz really cool, I like both the MiYoos ;)nice review Taki
