i remember cracking 2 original DMG's while doing the bivert mod a few years ago. It was a game changer at the time.
10 years ago, many of us uses GBASP front light panels for GBA and GBC.

this is what i've been waiting for for 20+ years! I always wanted an OLED screen on my gameboy since I heard about them back on the discovery channel in the 90's they had a show called "Beyond 2000" and they showcased OLED screens, but back then they were like $100,000 for even the smallest OLED screen!

I'd love to see this done for the GBA! I know there aren't really any 3:2 AMOLED displays but one can dream!
I'd like this on a GBA Advance SP model! The GBC screen is 4.0 x 4.4cm. GBA & SP is 4.1x 6.1cm. The Q10 original screen is 5.5 x 5.5cm and is mostly covered up to achieve the same size screen that is on GBC. If there is a existing product with OLED screen that is roughly between 4.1 x 6.1cm and 6.0 x 7.0cm, the GBA version could be made.
sane people dont care, man. all these handhelds electronics are rotten and unrealiable. what is the meaning to buy a game boy with a fancy screen while it freezes every minute, and gives you idiotc and strange glitches...? in the past couple years I bought 3-4 gbas just to play with tetris but Iam just tired of these craps now. "refurbished" means shit when you just cant play your game because the hardware dying.
@@user-hz4fj5xw2u with 3d printing becoming more affordable and services to print open source boards to swap the old chips or hardware emulation (FPGBC ) there will always be a market for these types of modifications. I imported a DMG from Japan and it still works beautifully (replaced the old screen) like it was brand new. The hardware lasting is always a gamble but i think its pretty cool that these old systems still have the attention they do

OLED has been such a saving grace for retro games, which were programed to work with the low response times of 90's TVs and CRTs.

I'm currently rebuilding my original GB Color. It was the Atomic Purple. Preserving the original case and screen, and bought an Atomic Green case, this OLED screen, new capacitors and fuses, new louder, clearer speaker, audio amp, clean power converter, and converting it to a USB-C rechargeable lithium battery pack. No more AA batteries being replaced after a couple weeks.
I did a q5 screen mod last year and i'm really happy with it, but this looks amazing! Thanks for calling this out!
I've got a q5 too and I find the lack of frame blending really frustrating
finally. I've been waiting for an oled display in a handheld. now just get one of these in a gameboy pocket and a GBA and I'll be satisfied

Incredibly surprising that this OLED screen is actually more power efficient by 2 whole hours vs an IPS. I especially like how this mod sits in a see through case since the FunnyPlaying one is pretty intense with the large jut out covered in copper shielding.
Legend says that if you put this screen on a fpgbc it evolves into an analogue pocket

I just build a Funnyplaying FPGBC a couple of weeks ago. Seems I'll be building another GBC next month or so... :)

Neat though if there was a board option for the NGPC, that'd be something special. Also like the idea of mixing this screen with a DMG + Super Gameboy and throwing it in a Hyperboy for a mini arcade kit. Also I really like the idea of the FPGBC but I'd be willing to pay extra for an FPGA option that supported multiple cores or at least the ones that make sense on a 1:1 AMOLED screen.
Thank goodness for this mod. When the Analogue Pocket came out (with the original price of $199) I almost bit the hook except that it was always sold out. Now they increased the price by $20, which is almost half the price of the kit. This makes more sense than the Analogue Pocket (provided that you already have a GBC).

I still wish the logo has the setting to where it looks like the colors of the actual Gameboy color logo
Recommend to cut a portion of the cart pin connectors and use the included protective film on them aswell in order to avoid shorting the screen. Managed to break my first Amoled Screen from HiSpeedio due to not cutting the cart pins

My 1st gameboy was a limegreen gameboy color, so this transparent green backlit gbc is definitely my fave nostalgically. Tho i decided to just mod my bro's old pink GBA classic with a backlit screen, but this would be so tempting if i didn't do that a year ago

I’m a sucker for the original DMG look of the shell and buttons. At the moment there is no such option for the new AMOLED kit. Do you think the Q5 DMG shell in your video would be compatible, as is or trimmed? If so, how much trimming would it need? Thanks!

Looks awesome, since I already have a Q5. I'm not really bothered but would get this if my Q5 goes bad. I would love to see an OLED Screen for the GBA and the Analogue Pocket.

I had so many gaming night with a flash light under my blanket when my mom forced me to go to bed haha
AMOLED is cool, and Analogue Pocket's fake gridlines with 1660x1440 display is cool, but the original Color screen used a reflective LCD display. It could show colour pixels on the screen kind of floating against the transparent background of unactivated pixels in their default state, which produced a pretty unique and eye catching look. Modern LCD and OLED displays make every pixel look activated all the time.

It is like having a portable CRT screen. CRT level GBC for the win! No compromises. Hopefully a Game Gear AMOLED mod can be done. Same with Wonderswan.

I wonder what's the definitive way to be playing retro titles up until snes/gba on a portable handheld.
Having the best ergonomics and controls, an oled screen, good performance and audio. All in a nicely-sized formfactor too.
There are a ton of retro handhelds, but I have no idea if there is one who gets all those basics just right.

Unbeknownst to us, blackberry has helped so much of the retro gaming community with their displays. The original Miyoo Mini also uses blackberry displays. Can't wait for the retro handhelds using blackberry passport's display next (1440 x 1440) that would be super cool! 🤣

OLED + Less than 16ms latency in either the wide body shape AGB-001 or either of the SP variants.
well impressive kit, i did a litle of research on the screen and i come empty handed i tried to search the PWM of the screen but nothing came out or other super amoled from the same years. That could be a very negative aspect for people like me that are sensitive to the High PWM modulation (high is when the valor is lower than 500). It would be good know this information with all devices with amoled/oled screen not only with this one, sadly notebookcheck one of the few sites that report this have no information of this screen.
