  • This video chronicles the process of me picking out the JLC Master Control Date for the 10th wedding anniversary gift.
    Other watches considered were the Omega CK 859, the Breitling Navitimer B01 and the Premier B09, the IWC Pilot's Chronograph Spitfire, and the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris.
    Thanks for checking out the video! Let me know what your selection would have been from these watches.

    I think the class and craftsmanship in a JLC is closer to a fine oil painting than a regular watch. It's not about bold colours and shapes. it's about fine brush work and perfect symmetry. The silver dial interacts with the light hitting it to radiate a different but delicate hue each time. The depth and intricacy behind the exhibition glass seems to defy the thinness of the mirrored casing. Few watches feel as magical or project such simple majesty. From a distance it could be a Grand Seiko or innocuous mico brand but against the skin - you know. You may also have guessed I own one too. I chose the Master Ultra thin date for its dignity and charm. Its present accuracy of +/-0 seconds a day just adds to its air of authority. A very hard act to follow.

    I agree with you! Out of my entire collection (which includes Rolex, Omega, Cartier….even Patek, ALS, and AP) I choose my JLC Geophysic 1958. Such an amazing watch from a first-class Manufacturer.

    You made the right choice going with the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Date. No disrespect to the runners up as they are all solid offerings. Green dials appear to be trending pretty heavy in some circles these days, but I have yet to pull the trigger on one. I tend to lean toward white and blue dials...funny as I just picked up a Hamilton Jazzmaster with a burgundy dial which is stunning. Normally I'm a tool watch guy, but the Jazz was hard to turn down. Good segment, thanks again.

      Thx, Mega! I love Hamilton. Would like to add a Jazzmaster to the collection some day!

      Funny enough, same here! I picked up the Omega Seamaster boutique edition in burgundy when I originally walked in to view the Planet Ocean in black ceramic.

    I'm between the Omega CK 859 and the JLC you eventually ended up with but the story of it being tied to your 10th anniversary made the JLC the right choice for you.

      Agreed! The two are fairly similar but I think I made the right choice. Thanks, buddy!

    Love the jlc navy seal compressor diver , pure comfort, a peg above my submariner but overall technically slightly superior. Both keepers, love jlc

    Good choice! Today I picked up a medium Reverso duoface classic for my 10th wedding anniversary and I could not be happier, that thing is just great. My previous purchase was a master control geographic sector dial which i also enjoy very much wearing. I’ll probable change brand for next one, but JLCs are so special.

      Ahhhh!! Congrats!! What a wonderful pick up. I would love to have a Reverso some day! Agree about their feel. Now that I have a Rolex I still feel more special wearing the JLC... almost like there is a secret that I know about that many others don't. Thanks for the comment!

    I purchased my Rolex Day Date preowned before my JLC Master Control Hometime, the Rolex is much more expensive, gets more attention, and I could easily sell it faster then the JLC, but there is something about the JLC that is more endearing to me. The satin silver finish on the dial is silky smooth, how it feels on the wrist. If I was to sell either watch it would definitely be the Rolex my JLC is a keeper. Even my son who is not into watches likes the JLC more.

    I have the Omega CK859 and JLC Master Control series is definitely on my radar. Just a small correction though - the CK859 was NOT a limited edition it was a numbered edition meaning each model has a number corresponding to when it was produced. The production run was ended quite quickly as well, but it was never a limited edition with a pre-determined number of pieces.

    The main issue is getting a rolex at retail from a AD. For most people living in a high population luxury area, this is literally next to impossible. But that being said, other than AP and Patek, there's nothing else like investment as Rolex. Omega, breitling, IWC are always available for under retail in grey market any day of the week ..incl JLC. This is where buying a Rolex at retail means your money is fully invested for years to come.

    • @rockymtnstyle
      @rockymtnstyle  Рік тому

      Agree completely. Been waiting nearly 2 years and keep in touch with my AD regularly. Hoping to snag a new 40mm Explorer at some point as the long-term investment piece that I will still love to wear. The JLC is more for enjoyment! And if my family ever falls on hard times and needs cash, I can still get a majority back from the watch. Thanks for the comment!

    I struggle to understand why you think the CK859 has legibility issues....maybe in the dark :) but it's incredibly easy to read. I appreciate your dislike for the grey dial, but the colour of pop comes from the fantastic hands and then pairing it with literally any combination of strap as it looks good with everything!

    • @rockymtnstyle
      @rockymtnstyle  Рік тому +1

      Perhaps it's a quirk of my vision or something, but to me it seemed like the dial was always in a shadow for some reason. Thx for the comment, Markie!

    • @markotoole7937
      @markotoole7937 Рік тому

      @@rockymtnstyle the dial is definitely a dark creme rather than a bright white like in the press photos, so I get your point.
