The Master Control line is one of the best lines of any brand anywhere when you factor in functionality, versatility and value for money. The date only model is close to perfection.

When I watched your video almost a year ago, I fell in love with the Master Control Geographic. For a whole year it was in my mind and today I finally got the courage to spend over $ 12,000 on a purchase. Stunning watch! Thank you for inspiring.

The best thing about the date version is the jump from the 15th to the 16th of the month which moves longer than the other months as JLC didnt want to cover the moonphase. I think this additional complication is a amazing touch.

Adrian sold his BLNR in part because the value of it was rising above 10,000 pounds. I think it's more of a matter of avoiding too much concentration of value in one watch.

I bought a vintage 1943 JLC Cal 470 when I was 18 in 1990 - I took one look at the gold plated movement inside and just had to buy it regardless of consequences, like going hungry... However, it has gone up 25 times in value since then, so now I wish I had bought all 8 watches that I saw at that time. Investments are very easy to do well retrospectively!

There is another feature small, but worth a mention. In the back view of the watch at 7:28 you can see the pins protruding through the strap where the spring bars are.
Those pins are connected to the spring bar and can be slid along to release the bar from the lugs, saving you using a spring bar tool, which usually scratches the lugs.

JLC always produce some interesting watches but with low power reserve(most of the Master Collections has only 38 hours), to me the biggest surprise/feature of this year is that they are able to pump the power reserve of their new release up to 60/70 hour power reserve without sacrificing the thickness and interesting design.

Hard to go wrong, but not entirely impossible. I had my Reverso UT1931 sent in to their Aus service center for regulation, and after a couple of month, it came back with a quite prominent hairline scratch on the mirror polished reverse side, and an upside down back plate...it was a one time thing, at least for me hopefully, and believe me I still like JLC a lot.

The MC Date is the ONE, 40 mm is perfect, the blue date to match the second's hands (nice), 70hr PR, the finishing and the strap/deployment, plus the lume is absolutely beautiful and just right. This looks to be the perfect dress-up/or dress-down classically styled watch. Another $6700 explanation to the better half I suppose? Cheers!

I think JLC have just moved their own game on significantly. I have a Master Control Date, which just looks plain next to these new models. I agree that the Geographic is the pick of the bunch. I don't usually like busy dials but this I could live with. I hope you're going to cover the Piaget Altiplano - I still can't find words to describe it adequately. What's the functionality of the absence of minute/ hour markers between the 4 and 6 hour positions, and the 6 and 8 hour positions? Any time from 5:23 to 5:29, and 5:31 to 5:37 ( likewise for the same intervals after 7) would be sheer guesswork. That's a period of 28 minutes of every 12- hour period when you basically wouldn't be able to tell the time, because of a dial designs flaw.

There’s one thing Ive noticed in these novelties. All of the bespoke in house movements are undersized for the cases, or the cases are oversized for the movements more to the point. JLC could have made these movements larger so the reverse side would look more proportional but didn’t. A nod to their own prowess or thumbing their noses at the modern 40mm case sizes? Only slightly small looking compared with some but the mismatch is there. Sorry, there’s always a freckle on the most distinguished face.

I’m in love with the new Master Control Calendar. Love the new power reserve & jumping date
A modern watch needs absolutely a power reserve of +/- 70 hours. When you have a watch-collection (meaning when you have several watches) : you can change a watch Friday for the weekend & put it Monday again on for the new workweek without setting.
Owning already a JLC MC Chronograph with a beautiful grey dial, which I absolutely love…
I only really regret that JLC don’t bring these models with more color variants: f.i. black or blue dial... I would immediately pick one up, if other dial colors where available. JLC is a perfect watch designer with fantastic models… but they seem not to realize that customers, if buying multiple models, don’t want to have them in all same grey color-dial.
Question: Nowhere I can find info if it is a deployment buckle strap or a tang buckle… ? I absolutely prefer deployment buckles !!

Wow, I like all of these. At 40mm I think the Chronograph and Geographic work better than the others. They are all relatively slim though which would help with wrist presence I suppose . Would be good to see them in the flesh. Thanks Adrian 👍

Love these pieces...but agree that these should be sized down a tad and they would be near perfect.

Master control calendar has day & month too close together. They should go back to having them closer to 10 & 2. The hour & minute hands are always hiding the weekday.
Almost bought the geographic, but the date is hidden too often.
