Trouble setting 4K at 120Hz? Possible reasons explained here!
    1. you need to have a compatible graphics card with HDMI 2.1 output. This appeared on the NVIDIA RTX30 series and later. This is the number 1 reason why you might not be able to set 4K 120Hz
    2. Make sure you've got a suitable HDMI 2.1 capable HDMI cable. Try a different one if in doubt
    3. If setting res/refresh rate in NVIDIA control panel, you need to scroll down past the first section of resolutions for TV, and find the PC resolutions section. Here you should find the right options to select
    4. If all else fails, going in to Windows display settings and setting your resolution and refresh rate in there, instead of through NVIDIA control panel can often work

You can get 4K 120Hz if you switch to 8-bit colour depth in your PC. I'm on a Asus G713 gaming laptop with a RTX 3070 and HDMI 2.0b port, and I can get 4K 120Hz running fine on the C2 with a random HDMI cable. Obviously I will lose HDR but I got blockout curtains and I'm perfectly fine working in a dark room.

    • @Avantime
      @Avantime Рік тому +1

@@TheLiveCoach I originally thought HDMI 2.0b couldn't run 4k 120Hz, even with the RTX 3070 - The stickied message said it's because the *desktop* RTX 30XX cards have HDMI 2.1 output for 4K 120Hz + HDR, so probably not RTX 30XX laptops with only HDMI 2.0b output - the stickied message implies that it's the HDMI port version that makes the difference, not the card.
Well I'm getting 4K 120Hz with 8-bit colour on HDMI 2.0b, so I'm assuming RTX 20XX cards/AMD equivalent and earlier can also do 4K 120Hz, just with 8-bit colour and no HDR.

Nice walkthrough with easy description for the average user.
Just an fyi, at native 4k resolution, sharpness setting of 0-10 is the same. You can verify this with a loupe and see no change in pixels activity until you get to 11. Below native 4k, 10 will apply a very slight AA type effect.

I just unboxed my new LG 42" OLED and not only did you help me get the settings to my (and your) preference, but you helped me to better understand those settings -- and somehow, along the way, fixed my HDMI overscan problem. For me, turning sharpness to zero was the biggest improvement. The TV was applying sharpness to text! That never ever ends well. It was making it look jaggy. If you are trying to use the TV as a computer monitor, you want to turn off all features that try to *enhance* the image.

Ironically, on the C2, it applies an anti-aliasing like filter when set to 10 sharpness, which makes stuff look LESS jaggied, weirdly enough. If you go over 10, however, then it starts adding sharpening.

Really cool to see you still answer questions so long after the release, thanks for that. - I have one question.
You touched upon it in a different reply to a comment, but why the warm 48 white balance? - I am asking from the perspective of naturalism as it feels unnaturally warm. - You mention it might have changed in software updates since the upload. However, on the off-chance it has not changed, what is the reason for this level of warmth? Eye care? Color accuracy? Cause personally I truly struggle seeing warm 48 as accurate. Please correct me! Thanks.

I set the "Prevent Input Delay (Input Lag)" setting to "Boost" and it did make a difference. However, I'm only currently running the panel at 60 Hz because I haven't yet been able to beat scalper's bots to secure a current gen GPU upgrade. (A 2080ti cannot output 120 Hz over HDMI.) So, if you're only able to drive 60 Hz I'd recommend trying out the "Boost" setting. I plan on reverting to the "Standard" setting after I'm able to upgrade my GPU.

    • @DGPG35
      @DGPG35 Рік тому

A 2080ti can output 4K 120Hz by using either a DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter or a USB Type-C to HDMI 2.1 adapter (using DSC). You just cannot do full chroma 4:4:4 at 4K 120 Hz 10-bit, you can do 4:2:2 or 4:2:0.

Just wanted to say Thank you for making this tutorial. I just purchased 42" C2 and i'm using it for both PC and MAC. I learned a few things from this video and on my own. The HDMI 2.1 feature inside the cabling is extremely important. It really will restrict the machine's ability to get to peak performance.
I found out also that many gaming monitors in the past do not ship with a 2.1 cable but only a 2.0 cable which is 18 gbp 1440p/120hz but 4k @ 60hz. All RTX 30's series can support HDMI 2.1 so you're good at the source. Now you just need the HDMI 2.1 cable.
For mac I used a USBC dongle and even though it said 4k @ 60hz the image was still very laggy a bit and not sharp like a monitor. So I ended up using a cable that was USBC -> HDMI (hdmi2.0 std) and WOW did that make a huge difference. It said 4k @ 60hz just like before but this time it was very buttery smooth and the text was very sharp.
After I applied TFTcentral's recommendation, it looks even better now and my eyes don't hurt from the OLED brightness that was at 100....
Share the knowledge! Thank you everyone.

Download scroll bars extension to hide your scrollbars while browsing
If you want to be real cautious put windows in high contrast black mode.

I'm no professional at this stuff and I've been learning a lot from your video and the others out there. Most settings recommended are pretty close to each other. That said, all of them state for SDR to have Color Temp at Warm 46-50 range. I brought up a white polar bear video on UA-cam and moved this Color temp from 0-50 and the further I went down (to 50) the more this image looked yellow to me (not white). Curious is this setting that is recommend by so many a result of a computer program telling pros this or is this the common agreement between pros? Just curious if this is important piece or more like a wine tasting and it's preference.

The setting in our video was based on a white point measurement with a Spectroradiometer device, calibrating it to 6500k. It might vary from sample to sample, but it’s normally around that mark. The problem is that the screen is so cool by default, when you first make the switch it looks too warm, but it might then need a little getting used to. Although ultimately it’s about what looks right and comfortable for you, so by all means have it a bit cooler if that looks better

I am downloading this in the event that I need to refer to it over the years, as I'm sure will be the case. Calibration is confusing business, and your video was clear and concise. These settings will also help C2 owners not excessively trigger Pixel Refresher, which decays image quality over time while further preserving artistic intent.

You’re very welcome, thanks for taking the time to feed back. Lg should be fixing the internal pattern generators at some point hopefully so Calman can be used properly in all modes. 4:26 DO NOT TURN THAT OFF! it might be annoying, but it's a crucial feature that prevents oled burn-in. It's particularly important for PC usage where you have the same image (eg the windows start button, or part of the HUD in a game) on all the time.
You've released a video telling people how to break their TVs!

Do you honestly think that a feature like that is offering you a lot of protection?! You can leave it in if you want, and for multimedia and gaming you won’t notice it. But it’s annoying for desktop use. There are far better measures you can take if you want to reduce the risk of burn in that having screen shift on. 😀

I just got an LG C3 42". This video has been extremely useful!
I went ahead and further tweaked a couple of options:
    - "Adjust Logo Brigthness" OFF under "OLED Care"
    - In the "Service Menu" (accesed via ColorControl program) I disabled "TPC" and "GSR" under "OLED"
Arguably turning these options off "increases the risk of burn in" but I can live with that in order to avoid ANY sort of annoying screen dimming.

Even in SDR / with an SDR signal, 38 is waaaay to dim. Remember that the panel can only push around 170nits for 100% white window on FULL brightness! Its ridiculously dim at 38. My old IPS monitor does 350nits all day. And I used that on 100% for 6 years now. Even on 100 Brightness, this performance can not be matched. Don’t know why you would use anything lower than 100. I promise the yellow effect will dissappear and you will see the intended accurate white balance. Over time even the brightness levels targeting those lower nits truthfully is to retain a cinematic/film look. 100 nits brightness really delivers dynamic lighting when viewing SDR movies and games. But trust me my man i would say for your situation do a blend of these settings and your own preference. Thanks a lot I got this for use as a monitor because i've always been annoyed with the backlight of lcd screens so i've thought about getting an oled and there had been a lot of things online about this one being good for monitor use and when i was browsing a major swedish electronics shop website i saw they had them on sale and on top of the sale price they also had one that was "opened package" meaning another -1/3 off the price so i jumped on it and this place also takes bitcoin payment and the bitcoin is pretty high now so it was a way to get rid of some as a payment method instead of selling it to kronor and incurring gains tax.
But i never had a tv before, i mean we had one at home before i moved from home in like 2002, but i've never even seen a smart tv in real life except in electronics stores so i had no idea how many things there were to set up so this was super super helpful... one thing though the color temperature when setting it to -48 on hdr and -48 in sdr is very different... hdr being much much warmer in normal windows programs, windows ui (not video/game content) is it supposed to be like that? I mean i'm not going to run it in hdr mode when just using regular desktop software, but still... I never had anything that support real hdr before so i'm not sure if this is just the way it's supposed to be.
edit: nvm I realized it just cleared all my settings to default settings when i switched back to sdr for some reason just had to set it all again... now they look the same color temp

Can I get one as well if I shoot you an email on the website?

Is it possible to calibrate colours and white balance at different signal levels in the Game Optimizer mode the way it's possible in other picture modes like the Expert ones? Does it allow to set color space at auto? Or you're basically stuck with panel's native performance if you want optimized latency?

Why do I get deeper blacks when I set the the video range to limited? Also, should we use the windows HDR calibration app that they recommend?

Check your output format. Is it limited or full range? Are you sure it's not black crush?

I really like the picture quality when I leave it continuously on hdr mode on mac. Is it safe to do so long term will it affect the life of the panel?

It won’t impact life span but it prob won’t be as accurate. We wouldn’t recommend it. More info here tftcentral.co.uk/articles/heres-why-you-should-only-enable-hdr-mode-on-your-pc-when-you-are-viewing-hdr-content

    Hi TFTCentral
I liked that shortcut you shared "rapidly pressing green button". Do you have any more? Is there a link I can go to which has more by any chance?
    Great video

There’s a few more detailed here that probably work on the C2 like they did on older models like the CX discussed here. Be careful not to change or edit anything you don’t know what it does!

@@tftcentral Thanks. But I need a service remote which I don't have. Not confident enough to go down this path. I was referring to the standard remote out of the box?

The ones in that thread at the bottom are all with the standard remote. Try them 😀

I got a 1070 connected to an G2 with a display port 1.4 to HdMi cable. But it's impossible to have gsync activated because my screen IS detected as LG TV SSCR2...and not as yours ...with this cable I should bé able to make it work like a HDMI 2.1 as thé bandwitdh IS higher...😅
I tried a fresh install but it's the same...
    I tried a 2.0 HDMI but it's the same...
