Hi marina I live in Canada for 5 years now. I used to think I don't need a car until a few months ago. You can use a car to get extra money especially with the lockdowns that happened over the last 2 years. Also people have become "entitled" over the last two years with all the division that is happening with the ever changing covid rules. I have been harassed on public transit like 4 times in 2022. Just this evening I was with my child and a man was above me I had to get up quickly because he was about to spit on us. About a week ago a man poured a substance on a young lady while she was boarding the bus in Toronto and light her on fire. They do not know each other. Right now a car for me is about my safety and that of my children. I'm learning to drive now and would be buying a used car once I pass by test.

You are absolutely right, car looses its value as soon as you drive out of the dealers lot. And the payment never ends, bigger portion goes on interest. It’s advisable to spend time and read whatever documents they give you well and strategize your payments if the main purpose of buying was to build credit. In that case don’t don’t go for too expensive.

I was telling my sisters the other day that in Canada, not everyone you see driving a car owns that car.
A lot of people rented those cars or took loans to get the car which is different from Nigeria that most people you see driving own the car.
Owing a car comes with a whole lot of costs and sometimes even if you can afford it it might be wise to hold on and stick to the transit system except you really need it.
It’s okay to hold on for some time because that money you’ll spend would never be gotten back.
The transit system isn’t the worst and could be cheaper in some cases.
You might buy a car but by the time you think of the costs of maintenance, insurance parking etc the cost goes up. When it comes to parking, in some cases you’ll have to think about that costs for your home/apartment and even work. Not all organizations provide free parking to their employees.
Parking could be so expensive in some places and when you think about all of that you might be able to save up some money you can put towards somethings else that’ll generate money for you while you save up to purchase that car later.

You are so right. There are parking stalls in Downtown Saskatoon that cost up to $250 a month. Even more than some people's insurance and the cost of gas. That is a significant expense that a lot of people don't think about. Thanks for sharing
