    Thanks so much Marina for sharing this,the indigenous people are the warmest and homely set of people lve seen around.when l came to canada l thought all whites are the same until l lived with one at my school dorms,l noticed she cleaned,cooked and was so kind and friendly unlike the other whites,it was when we got talking that she told me about the residential schools and what they all went through. She was at that school and was forcefully married to an european man who treated her badly.The Europeans have done alot of bad to different races and the lest we can do is to have empathy and be supportive of people who been through alot.

    As a South African now living in Canada. These are all the questions I asked when I arrived in Canada and could not see an indigenous person for a whole month after arriving here. And I saw how they were eradicated and almost became extinct. We all need to empathize and learn the true history of the lands we occupy. The colonizer is very good at telling stories that make themselves sleep better at night. Thank you for this video.

    First time commenting, I studied a course in sociology back in U of M, it was about the Inuit people, it’s really disheartening, these people were robbed of their right, their kids were taken away, few that came back found it really difficult to communicate with their families, they developed anxiety, fell into depression and resulted to finding solace in taking alcohol.

      So what? We are not comparing trauma here, but we are facing what is in front of us, especially as newcomers to Canada. Two truths can co-exist. That worse happened in Africa doesn't invalidate what is happening now. Thanks for stopping by.

    I remember meeting an indigenous woman, and I told her I was from Nigeria,Africa. She smiled and said, "They stole your land the way they stole our land. We are brothers and sisters. " That's when I got curious. I never feel afraid around them anymore. As new immigrants, please be curious and ask questions. Little history: a few nations had female chiefs, and the Europeans couldn't manipulate them. They convinced the men to force the female chiefs out.

    This misinformation has to be spoken about. Well done Marina. Thankfully I work with an organization that is committed to Truth and Reconciliation. 4 Seasons of Reconcilation is a great course to learn about Truth and Reconcilation and it opened my eyes to a whole lot of things. The sad truth is that Canada is not doing enough to honour the 94 Call to Action of the Truth and Reconcilation Commission because I have witness first hand the ineqaulities that still exists in the Indigenous communities where I work. Lack of housing, healthcare, inaccessible roads, lack of portable water and a whole lot more that still exists in 2024.

    It takes a great deal of courage to make a video speaking on a subject that most immigrants would often tip-toe around even when they are well-informed about the history of their host.

  • @elloco-q3h
    @elloco-q3h 5 днів тому

    Balanced video maam. When I saw the title, I first thought , "here we go again"; one of those vids that keep flogging the same subject. But u managed to balance the argument beautifully in 10:32 by reminding everyone that "Canada cannot adjust to you; you got to adjust to Canada". Brilliant. However, it wld improve the quality of your content if there were statistics/numbers to show how many ppl have actually left. It's not educational enough if a subject-matter is being thrown around & there's no data to back it up. It's a common prblm with UA-cam vids. Lastly, show me one perfect country (one country!) anywhere in the world where EVERYTHING works 100% & everyone there is happy. Thanks again!

    Overrepresentation of Indigenous Children in care through the Ministry of Social Services is, in my opinion, informal form of residential schools. Giving money to them instead of services is a strategy to keep them suppressed. At the end of the day, d money goes back into the mainstream canadian treasury, and d cycle continues. In my work with Indigenous people, they just want to be loved and not judged but struggle with trust, which is understandable. To acknowledge that they are yet to gain independence and may never gain it is enough trauma on it's own. It is well. Thanks for speaking on this. ❤
