Here is my case: have been living in Saskatoon, finished PhD in March, got a full time permanent job offer in Vernon-BC today, now thinking to buy a car and drive there because the prices are cheaper and there are more options in Saskatoon. The problem is that I am not a PR so can not get a loan from my bank, so I will not be able to get loan and buy from private unless buy a really cheap car with the cash I have but that car may not take me to BC. Not sure how financing would work with dealers and also all those little perks of buying from dealers would be of any use if I am not longer in the city that I bought the car from, also not sure how the dealers would do if you do not have PR. Thought my credit is >800. Any advice?
Heads up u still need to do at glp unless u have a full license from the us or uk or New Zealand or Australia and u will need to take a knowledge test

Hi Nader! In my country, you need to have a residential address in your name in order to purchase a vehicle. Is that a requirement in Canada as well?
For most things it is! Just set up a permanent address and if you can’t do that for whatever reason, but a mailbox for $10 a month from Regus.

im moving to canada in a couple of months. how do i register the car before i move since i have a foreign license (USA). should i exchange the license before i officially move? i dont have a residence yet

Hi Nader. In my country, besides the insurance and, of course, the maintenance of the car, we are supposed to pay the government some taxes every year. So here is my question: are there any annual taxes to be paid there as well?
There's sometimes a service tax when you buy the car and you're paying taxes yearly on top of that - but I'm not sure beyond that to be totally honest.
