l never comment on youtube videos. But I have to here because I truly feel this is the best youtube video I have ever watched in my life. It touched me intellectually and emotionally. I know you said you don’t know what you’re doing with your life. Neither do I. But please continue to use your analytical skills in everything you do because that is where you shine. Well done. I’m almost speechless.
Oh my gosh, I'm absolutely touched by your comment!! It really means a lot to hear that cuz I put a ton of effort into this.. Gonna pin this at the top--thanks for watching and I'm really glad you liked it so much!! All the best to you.
HAHAHA I was actually kinda worried about making an introduction that had almost nothing to do with Squidward. I thought "people are gonna click on this expecting Squidward, but for 13 minutes i almost don't mention him at all!!!" But I felt it should be important to study what I think is the bigger underlying picture of what SpongeBob is about before delving into how Squidward fits in. And it seems that people are liking the introduction a lot, so it seems to have worked out!! Anyways, thanks for watching!!
@@TheLocalMangaka One of my top favorite moments of an interesting interaction between SpongeBob and Squidward was in the episode Nature Pants. Especially when seeing SpongeBob naked in front of Squidward. As Squidward is holding SpongeBob's clothes. He raised them higher up to show them to SpongeBob and then asks him to put his clothes back on. He says "SpongeBob, do us all a favor." The fact that Squidward held them up higher was enough to get SpongeBob to know that Squidward wanted him to put his clothes on.
@@TheLocalMangaka Most people have guessed the answer to how Squidward obtained SpongeBob's clothes was from gathering those from SpongeBob's dresser. Possibly he knows where SpongeBob's dresser and clothes are. I think it's accurate to say that Squidward likely grabbed a set of clothes out of SpongeBob's dresser and he most likely grabbed a pair of underwear and put them inside of his pants. Or if he picked up SpongeBob's clothes that he stepped off earlier and dropped onto the ground there'd already be a pair of underwear inside of the square britches.
the nowhere dimension bit used to freak me out SO BAD as a kid, the ominous voices saying "alone", the blank space, the emptiness, it scared the crap out of me
its funny, i had the opposite, though admittedly jarring yes, as someone who has struggled with hallucinations since ive started watching spongebob, to see that episode as a child was comforting and a reflection of myself far more than any other cartoon displaying friendship and hehe randomness. it was "nice" to see a cartoon going through existential things i myself was struggling with at that age, because sure most kids dont, but some do.
This is better than the thesis I wrote for my bachelor's degree. I haven't even finished the video. Even if you feel a bit lost in life, don't forget that a lot of people who get what they want realize it wasn't what would make them happy, after all. You have real talent; I hope you keep chasing your passions.
im autistic and always felt out of place in this cynical world, i always felt like spongebob which is why this cartoon has been my favorite my whole life. Thank you so much for this video, from my inner child to yours 😌
It's odd, the last few years I have felt grump and lost, but its like a switch has automatically turned off and I feel happy and overly positive again. I am happy. I have often been called annoying for my passion toward things and being too talkative with those I decide to let hear my voice.(I pick and choose, so all my thoughts end up bursting out with the few I actually speak with.)
This is my most favorite video I've ever seen. Squidward has been my most favorite character since I was a kid. This delves into exactly why I love him. This gives me words to express the connection I feel to him. Also. Spongebob and Squidward belong together in every sense of the word. I love them so much. Thank you for this amazing video!!
You forgot Bubble Bass throwing Squidward like a ragdoll in the pain comp. And the bug Squidward was cooking hitting him with a pan. And probably more examples.
oh no!!! Throughout the course of many months of editing this video, there were...many, many, many times I had to re-edit that sequence to add in something else I missed 😂 Darn!! I thought I caught everything!! In the description of my video, I shared a public link to the spreadsheet recording all the instances of pain: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ckZ-ohNgfm2bC4JmrzLjfPEg1BKjSLZxgNlbvyj-MZc/edit?usp=sharing I'm gonna add the instances you mentioned, and any other cases other people might mention, but probably highlight them in red as missing in the video 😂 Anyways, thanks for watching!
Also the scene that was in the original airing of Just One Bite, where he trips the Krusty Krab's security system and gets blown up twice because of it. And also emotional pain from being forced to watch for half a minute as SpongeBob moistens his lips in preparation to play Squidward's clarinet (he gets interrupted before he can, but the dread of SpongeBob getting saliva all over it was there).
Only half way through this video so far but I just want to say the editing put into this video is insane 🤌🏼🔥 also you should reupload the squidward pain and suffering complication as a stand alone video was well, cause the effort put into recording all of that should deserve its own moment 🙌🏼🙌🏼
yep!!! I'm planning to release that segment by itself either tomorrow or friday. And thanks!!! I'm glad you liked it so far!! Hopefully the second half is also good!!
I'm 50 minutes into this video and have been actively watching, but I feel like only a few minutes have passed. Your ability to captivate an audience is genuinely incredible.
8 months... wow. It definitely shows. This one video is basically an in-depth Spongebob/Squidward encyclopedia in UA-cam form. I just appreciate the time, thought, dedication, and heart you put in this. Also, excellent choice using Spongebob game music.👌
Thanks!!! I'm glad you're able to fully appreciate everything!! And ye hehe. I wanted to use SpongeBob-related music without fear of copyright, and video game music turned out to be a nifty solution!!
Honestly, i could've also taken a 3 hr video discussing the same topics discussed in the introduction. Hearing about the "purity" of the show was oddly wholesome and i'd have loved to see that explored further. Great video regardless!
thank you so much for the high quality subtitles, so many big youtubers don't even think about them so it's amazing for you to put in the work to make them accurate < 3
@@17Jahseh17When you make a video, and are editing, you can manually input the subtitles and write out the script yourself putting in all of the actual intricacies and inflections.
I spent over eight months working on this video, reading many interviews, looking for behind-the-scenes footage, and watching every single episode of SpongeBob (from the first three seasons) multiple times to hopefully make the best, most comprehensive video about Squidward I could possibly make. So hopefully y'all like this video!! I certainly had a lot of fun making it. Please leave a comment, LIKE, and SHARE this video if you do like it!! Thanks!!!
I got almost half an hour into the video in one sitting, expecting it to have at least 400k views, but I was shocked to see it doesn’t even have 10k. This video is insanely high quality, good job man. Definitely checking out more of your stuff
If you liked the anime movie "Your Name", it's another video I spent hundreds of hours on that only got like 2000 views over a year ahaha. I'm glad you liked this one!!! Thanks for watching.
Bruh this is the best SpongeBob analysis. Like you actually took this goofy kid show and gave it real, serious thought and gave us meaningful responses to it. This is so my jam. Great job!
thank you!!!! i've made other long-form videos over the past few years, and i think by now i've learned to accept to not do these things primarily for views haha But it's nice that this video is starting to gain some traction!! Thanks for watching!!
Just wanted to know this was the first to come up on my UA-cam home page under “Video Essays.” I’m 52 minutes in right now and loving this! Exactly the type of analysis I love. Great work.
its truly absurd the way this video about squidward has completely changed my world view and appreciation for the fun and light hearted joy life can bring you. Seriously so talented thank you!!
I am genuinely astounded with the passion you had in this essay, the ending was so heart warming and meaningful because of all of the work you put into this. Your love for spongebob and especially squid ward is so wholesome and lovely, I genuinely hope for more just for your personality and love for the show alone.
Thank you for your very kind comment!! I'm glad you were able to watch this video and I'm very glad you liked it!!! Thanks for looking forward to more videos--I can make no guarantees on how long they'll take cuz history has shown they take extremely long haha
10/10 meaningful and quality video that speaks to the generations touched by this masterpiece of a show. Going to share with my family because more than 85k people will appreciate this you've made a video essay of such high quality it is part of your legacy and will be watched into the future, unironically.
I came here expecting a monotone ranking of Squidward episodes and was instead greeted by a wonderful analysis with great editing, an intriguing history of SpongeBob and Hillenberg, and putting into words how wonderful the vibe of the show is. Now THIS is a video essay! Great job :)
This is the best video about SpongeBob I’ve ever watched. I love that you mentioned Stephen Hillenberg’s influences. I always could see the clear influence of 60’s California culture (ie The Beach Boys) it’s nice that someone took the time to break down his history and his artistry, because he doesn’t get enough credit. He introduced creativity to kids everywhere on an otherwise soulless tv network, and I feel so grateful to him for that (especially as an artist now myself).
This is hands down one of the best SpongeBob analysis videos I've ever seen! The amazing introduction hooked me in to this rollercoaster ride of Squidward! You deserve many more views and subs for all the work you put into this!
Squidward is for me the most relatable character of the show actually. The Cynicism but especially no matter what or how hard to tried it usually is futile as it ends in failure
man your style of sourcing/presentation utilizes video as an audiovisual medium so well. i wish more people did it like you do. ive only just started watching but its kinda peak. i love how you put the full quotes you paraphrase on screen!! can't do that in pure text medium(without disturbibg reading flow). man. masterclass!!!! really showing what video essays can be. i love squidward but this was truly such a pleasant surprise
With the Squid's Day Off section in particular, I actually think it's also applicable to Idiot Box in how Squidward can't understand why the box doesn't work for him, so he immediately assumes Spongebob and Patrick must be messing with him or hiding the true meaning, seeing as Squidward could never admit Spongebob and Patrick are better at something than him. Great essay overall btw! Had many of these same thoughts when revisiting the series recently
This is genuinely one of the most comprehensive and detailed video essays I have ever seen. I just want to applaud you on the skill and dedication this must've taken you. Please continue doing what you are doing, and I hope more people see your content!
Thank you!!!! I'm really glad people like you watch and notice the effort!! Not sure when the next video will come out, but when it does, I'll try again to put in my best effort!! Thanks again for watching and commenting!!
commenting for engagement because this is such an amazing video and your channel deserves way more recognition!! definitely gonna rewatch the first 3 seasons of spongebob now
Bro thanks for doing captions especially for a video of this length! I know it’s hard for smaller channels but it’s such a help to people like me who need them.
I will forever be grateful to UA-cam for dropping this LITERAL MASTERPIECE onto my recommended page. I cannot emphasize to you enough how jaw droppingly amazing this video is I enjoyed every single second of it and love absolutely every single detail that you added to it, keep up the amazing work!!
Actually fantastic video, I'm glad UA-cam sent it my way. I also really like how you used the BFBB music that fit the settings in the episodes you were discussing. Thank you for taking so much time to work on this
The views and likes don't reflect how amazing this analysis is, I was truly moved by this video that I had to leave a comment. The way you are able to keep my interest in such a unique and different topic really amazes me, I believe more videos on UA-cam should take from this video as a way to improve and tell enthralling analyses!
Thank you so much for your very kind comment!!! I feel like over the years, I've learned to tell myself to just make videos about....whatever I want LOL. And hopefully videos I make can still resonate with others. And I try to worry less about views/likes. But I'm still very glad when it reaches people like you!
Incredibly well done! It's always a dread to fear your nostalgic old favorite show wasn't actually that good, but being able to defend your point so well is a big sign that it lives up to its reputation. I always liked band geeks, but putting Squidward's "sweet sweet victory" into perspective to how much he suffered? That's truly incredible.
spongebob definitely still holds up!!! I often still watch them as background noise as i fall asleep nowadays hahaha And thanks! Glad you liked the ending
This is one of the most well put together and edited videos I have ever seen and I live on UA-cam at this point lol 🤣. Just the amount of effort and time and thought and work put into it. Also the passion for the points being conveyed jumps out at us. Also the amount of research put in to prove the points is very admirable! Much respect 💯. Excellent video and content!!!
Absolutely phenomenal analysis, and it is such a treat that I randomly stumbled on upon this work. The time, the effort, and the level of care put into this more than words could ever sum up. This is such a love letter to Squidward, and SpongeBob as a series, but also and most importantly to Stephen Hillenburg. This passion piece deserves more than a thousand praises, and I hope your talent will continue to persist as you continue to make videos. Yet, do so with inspiration, as the personality and relatability is what truly ties this all together. I pray and hope for the best for you again, and I will be here to see such passion on display.
Thank you for taking the time to write such a meaningful comment!! I'm really glad you liked the video!! Not sure when the next one will come, but yeah, I tend to mostly only make videos on topics I really like 😅Glad that you noticed, and also glad you really liked the video!! Thanks again for watching, and I hope you have a great day!!
I was watching this video on my TV, and felt like I had to pay my condolences to you by signing into my account to like and subscribe. This is truly one of the best videos on UA-cam due to what you did in order to produce. You do amazing work and clearly have an incredible talent beautiful video!
This is actually amazing. I didn't think i'd enjoy a video essay about Squidward this much. But the way you've delivered it made it delightful to watch :3
This really points out how Squidward should have had his own show instead of Patrick. And i know this is in line with modern cartoons more than older ones, but would have loved to see Squidward have a bit of character growth, going along with the absurdity a bit more or, while still finding Spongebob annoying, having more of those softer compassionate moments. I just love seeing characters grow like that, keeping the things we love about them (overall being cynical/ delivering deadpan humour) but also keeping the lessons they have learnt along the way 😭 Amazing essay and video!
this is great. thank you so much for taking the time to make this. spongebob is certainly one of the two most formative things of my childhood(the other being early Owl City music, lol) so this video feels like it was perfectly crafted for me. It couldnt have been more perfectly tailor made. thanks
I have always had an appreciation for Spongebob, as I assume most who watched it as kids do and found myself consuming some Spongebob releated media every once in a while throughout my life and have watched all three of the movies, but I only really got into Spongebob last year after purchasing a Spongebob phone case and thinking to myself that I should make it my whole personality -I have not, but I have found myself deeply invested and interested on it-, so seeing someone make such profound and serious of an analysis on it makes me incredibly happy, as most will just take the show on a very unserious manner, which I of course understand! I myself don’t always have the mind to take some moments of it as serious, but I still do find myself wishing to find others who are willing to analyze the show on a more critical and serious manner, at least from time to time, so I am eternally grateful to have found this video!! The way you have analyzed each episode, each scene, each line and just every little moment, is so so so amazing, I barely have any words to say of it! All I am able to conjure up at the moment is; thank you so much for your magnificent work and for sharing it with us, this is, without a doubt the most absolutely fascinating and most well done character analysis I have ever had the pleasure to watch!!!
I'm glad you were able to find a video that resonated with you so much!!! But yeah, it's neat to meet someone else who probably spends too much time thinking about SpongeBob haha Thanks for watching, and I'm glad you liked the video!! Have a great day!!
aahhh i'm glad you liked it!! it's really nice to finally start getting comments on this after working on this for so long 😅 thanks for watching and subscribing!!!!
Thank you!!!! I'm really proud of my "Kimi no Na wa" video i made last year, if you like anime (although I feel like i've learned how to improve in editing/pacing since then)
oh i dont even know how to BEGIN to explain how wonderful this video was in a concise comment..... the intro alone was fantastic and i was shocked at how well you explained it, and exactly why the atmosphere of this show ALONE is insanely creative and immersive.. and then perfectly outlining squidwards complex character that was always in the back of my mind, but i had just never put together. despite me being a fan of post-first movie spongebob, i like that you kept it limited to the first three seasons as it made it much easier to follow and remember all the plots to specific episodes you were talking about. truly such a fantastic watch all the way through, i was genuinely shocked to see you werent some mega popular youtuber and this didnt have millions of views after finishing the video! the script and editing style felt really professional! good freakin job on this video man!!!!!! (side note.... i am EXTREMELY jealous of those animation cels of yours!!!! 😭)
Thank you for your very comprehensive and thoughftul comment!! Glad you really liked it!! And yeah, I think becoming popular is...an unpredictable path haha. And instead I just try to focus on making videos I like making haha. But anyways I'm glad you liked the video and thanks again for commenting!! Also, SpongeBob cels are still kinda easy to find nowadays, but backgrounds are a lot harder to find than they were a few years ago (i got mine in 2018)--i think interest in cels spiked after the pandemic, so a lot of cels are way more expensive now than a few years ago sad
Like so many other comments here, I’ve barely made a dent in this essay so far, but I already have so much respect for your dedication given how engaging of a video this is. It goes by surprisingly fast!! Your care and effort in every single step of the process absolutely shows. Knowing how lonely of a process making a video can be over the span of 8 entire months, always remember that through this video your love can be felt, and you are an inspiration. Please never stop making art ❤ I am more than excited to finish watching this today :)
Thank you!!! Idk if you finished it, but I'm glad you liked it so far!!! But yeah, definitely for sure there were many times especially 4-6 months in where i wondered if I'd ever get this done, so I'm glad someone understands haha. But I'm also glad I finally did!!! Thanks again for watching!!
This is truly one of the best and most comprehensive UA-cam videos I've ever watched, the amount of work and effort you put into it is incredible. I would be very interested in seeing you do a similar detailed breakdown of the SpongeBob Movie, analyzing the themes and philosophies present in it, as it feels like the true ending of the entire show. I think that you'd be able to break it down well and offer a lot of intriguing insight. Keep up the amazing work!
As a lifelong SpongeBob fan, I was impressed to hear information at the beginning that I had never heard before! Fantastic video and a perfect analysis of what makes the show and its characters work the way it does.
Gonna throw my penny into the well of congratulations here and say this was extremely well done and enjoyable! I'd gladly watch any other in-depth analyses you'd want to pursue!
this is so intellectually written and this is probably the most amazing video i’ve ever watched. I wish you nothing but success in your endeavors and I implore you to keep doing what you’re doing, amazing job bro.
man to be honest I never gave a damn about Spongebob but you've managed to captivate me about it, you must be one of the greatest video essayist on the plateform congrats for your work
You are an absolute genius! This is one of the best analyses I’ve ever seen and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing this! I’ve been going through a hard time and just had a rough break up, so this gives me something enjoyable and amazing to watch while I grieve. It is just a masterpiece. I’ll probably watch it at least 5 more times 😂 Thank you for making this
This is the greatest spongebob related youtube video ive ever seen. Despite always loving this show since i was a kid, i never thought of it as a show you could analyze on a deep philosophical level like this, i always just thought of it as a quirky, funny, and clever cartoon that shouldnt be taken too seriously. But you really did a great job pointing out how much depth there is to the characters, writing, and themes of this show. Now I wanna rewatch the first three seasons again for like the 20th time with this in mind
this is genuinely one of the best video essays i’ve ever watched. i’m not even an hour in yet but it is so well researched and explained that i feel like i could listen/watch for 5 hours and still be hooked. amazing video man!!
This video deserves millions of views. I am definitely now your #1 fan. Your dedication to expressing your passion for this show and squidward as a character is admirable and so respectable. Definitely looking forward to watching everything else you’ve made and will make in the future.
I wish I had a *tenth* of the writing ability and capacity that you have. Every aspect of the video seems so impeccably polished, it's *absurdly* underrated.
I am absolutely in awe over this video. I love it so much I went nuts over it on Twitter & shared it there too. 😭💖 This is honest to God the best SBSP related/Squidward focused analysis I have ever seen. You were so incredibly thoroughly, your editing is fantastic, and you have just a complete understanding of the philosophy of this show & what makes it so memorable & loved by people all over the world. Please don't stop following this passion, because I felt it so strongly during the entire duration of the video. This made my entire week. ❤ Subscribed!!! I look forward to seeing more of your work no matter what you create or pursue!
Oh wow, I just saw this! I looked you up on twitter...and I think your tweet has more likes than this video!!!! Wow!! Thanks so much for sharing!!! I'm glad you really liked it--I hope you have the best day ever!!!
This is actually a very good video essay on my second favorite character from the show! I love the in-depth explanations and explorations you do to show how Squidward is one of the best characters in the show! I hope you keep doing what you do, and just keep on going!
im only 8 minutes in and this is more actual thoughtful analysis of spongebob than i've seen from most videos on youtube its actually increbible. i cant wait to watch the rest
37:25 fun fact: Where I had grown up, Disney was 45, Nick was 46, and CN was 63. Fairly close to yours apparently! Much more relevant, watching this has been a blast, the way you explain things sounds much like me explaining things I like to myself with all the repetitions and distractions gone- kudos for any cutting and trimming you had to do to get there LOL! Great video and great work!!
10/10 video; I would eat my meals while watching this, and also listen to the audio in my sleep 💖🤣 I love the commentary, the Squidward torture compilation and your analysis so much that I had to subscribe right after the introduction. I don't usually like this sort of content, I like analysing shows, but usually I stick to the comedy related essays that aren't serious, but this guy is so jolly it makes watching fun.
I think this is the best thing I’ve ever been recommended ever. In 2 hours you were able to put to words what everyone loves about not only squidward, but the entire show. Thank you so much for putting so much effort into this video
Appreciate the deep dive into squid's character! He's always been one of my most favourite characters from the show. Overall, I tend to like characters like Squidward more bc they're flawed and have such real struggles. When younger, I related mainly to Squidward. I never related to spongebob until I grew up and learned about optimism. Still mainly feel for Squid though. The insight behind the absurdity of the world wasn't something I never really thought of, even as a long time viewer of the show. It just makes lots of sense knowing how crazy this world is, and why the show would want to reflect that. Really amazing points you brought up, especially about futility. The feeling a futility is so brutal and not talked about a lot; having Squid makes everything feel less lonely from my personal experience! Great essay! Squidward deserves the insight and spotlight imo. Keep up the good work bringing more attention to such a good subject! I hope this is written okay and I didn't miss anything, I'm very tired atm.
thank you for your amazing and detailed response!! I can tell you really related to the video and it really means a lot!!! Thanks for watching and I hope you have a great day!!
Honestly, thinking about it through the lens of absurdist philosophy, the gorilla ending actually does make a lot of sense. SpongeBob spends the entire episode paranoid about another freak incident leaving him confined to the iron butt for the rest of his life. This paranoia causes him to basically go into hiding, to run away from the chaos of the outside world in a futile attempt to maintain control, which is promptly shattered by a gorilla showing up and wreaking havoc, as if to say "no matter what you try to do, how hard you try to control the chaos of the world, you cannot outrun absurdity." People will spend their entire lives running away from things they cannot control, and either waste their lives away in the process, or end up getting hurt anyways. The message of the episode is that one needs to accept the risks that come with the absurd chaos of life on their own terms in order to enjoy the time we have, and that any control we think we have is an illusion. You can stay inside, or in your neighborhood, or in your state, or confined within whatever comfort zones you like, but the gorilla can/will come for you anyway
@@TheLocalMangaka well I’m surprised to hear that, your deep, in-depth analysis of this topic is fascinating, I will definitely continue to watch all future uploads of yours multiple times. Keep up the great work 👍
As someone who has been watching this show since 2001, wow. This was such an amazing video that my autistic brain couldn’t get enough of. The intro alone left me so giddy and smiling. Hillenburg was such a blessing to this world and I wish I could’ve told him how much he shaped my childhood, he passed away on my birthday, so I pay tribute every year. Thank you for how much care and accuracy goes to towards making content like this
Thank you for this video. I don't know what else to say, I'm sorry. I'm just grateful this Squidward video essay exists. Thank you. It really made me more calm, more motivated. Thank you.

Waiwaiwait a second!!!! This video doesn’t even have 100k views??? I thought it had over a million, and was confused as to why it seemed you replied to all the comments!! DUDE YOU ARE WAY UNDERRATED YOU DESERVE ALL THR VIEWS
I think at this point, I've taught myself to not make videos primarily for views haha (but 70k views is actually a TON of views to me!!) I just try to make videos about what I think would be personally fulfilling!! But yeah, I'm still stoked that people like you end up watching them still!! (and yeah, every now and then I try to keep up with comments haha)
Dude this video is amazing! Even the notion of writing a nearly 2.5 hour long college level essay about the show SpongeBob of all things is absurd, but life itself is absurd. We as a ✨society✨ could have opted to do anything we wanted and we said “let’s invent taxes and coerce people into working jobs they don’t like”. Nothing matters but at the same time ✨nothing matters✨. I’d love to see anything else you create if you decide to make other video essays but also no pressure, take your time and do what you want first ✨💖
Gonna be honest spongebob came out as i was considering cartoons as a for kids mindset. But in my later years as an adult i began to watch random episodes youtube analysis much like yours. And i have garnered a appreciation for this show. And your interpretation and case for this having a old time aesthetic makes me appreciate it more. Ive always had a soft spot for older media. Even though i was born in the 80s.
Thanks for watching!! And yeah, old cartoons are cool!! One of my favorite quotes comes from Chuck Jones (one of the creators of Looney Tunes) who said something like "I didn't make cartoons for kids--I was making them for myself!!"
This is a truly remarkable video. I know from experience that being unemployed can cause one to feel useless and question if you have anything to offer, but at just 30 minutes into this video I'm already stunned at how thoughtful, well organized, engaging, and intellectually + emotionally stimulating it is. Whatever employer you eventually work for will be lucky to have someone capable of such brilliance and creative insight.

I got so invested in the introduction that I forgot this was a Squidward video
HAHAHA I was actually kinda worried about making an introduction that had almost nothing to do with Squidward. I thought "people are gonna click on this expecting Squidward, but for 13 minutes i almost don't mention him at all!!!"
But I felt it should be important to study what I think is the bigger underlying picture of what SpongeBob is about before delving into how Squidward fits in. And it seems that people are liking the introduction a lot, so it seems to have worked out!!

@@TheLocalMangaka it was a good decision. I was HOOKED! Pun not intended
It started auto playing on my UA-cam Home Screen and I got so hooked on the intro I forgot I hadn’t clicked it yet 😂
SAME!! i feel like he could post just that part separately and it would still be an incredible standalone video!
@@TheLocalMangakano i appreciated it
damn i learned more about the series in the first ten minutes of this video than i have from entire spongebob hyperfixation channels

@@TheLocalMangaka Good effort and points you touched upon.

Fr! Thank you for not including it 😂
its funny, i had the opposite, though admittedly jarring yes, as someone who has struggled with hallucinations since ive started watching spongebob, to see that episode as a child was comforting and a reflection of myself far more than any other cartoon displaying friendship and hehe randomness. it was "nice" to see a cartoon going through existential things i myself was struggling with at that age, because sure most kids dont, but some do.
✨Nihilism depicted in a kids cartoon✨
This is better than the thesis I wrote for my bachelor's degree. I haven't even finished the video. Even if you feel a bit lost in life, don't forget that a lot of people who get what they want realize it wasn't what would make them happy, after all. You have real talent; I hope you keep chasing your passions.
Thank you!!! Wish the best as well!! (starting to randomly read through old comments)
im autistic and always felt out of place in this cynical world, i always felt like spongebob which is why this cartoon has been my favorite my whole life. Thank you so much for this video, from my inner child to yours 😌
I'm really glad this video reached you and that you were able to relate to it!! Good luck to you, and may you have the best day ever!!!
By me it is the opposite. I'm not a autistic but feel out of place in this way to optimisic world actually.
Same!
@@AUDHDlucyI’m glad you found yourself again! Please don’t lose your light, it doesn’t hurt anyone when you shine so don’t dim it 🙃
This is my most favorite video I've ever seen. Squidward has been my most favorite character since I was a kid. This delves into exactly why I love him. This gives me words to express the connection I feel to him.
Also. Spongebob and Squidward belong together in every sense of the word. I love them so much. Thank you for this amazing video!!
Thank you so much!!! This comment really means a lot!! I'm glad you were able to find it.
13:03 i just cannot express how well you explained every single reason why i love this show so dearly
thanks for watching!! I'm glad you liked the intro!!
@@TheLocalMangaka i loved the entire video!!! i love your analysis so much, this is compiled so beautifully
You forgot Bubble Bass throwing Squidward like a ragdoll in the pain comp. And the bug Squidward was cooking hitting him with a pan. And probably more examples.
oh no!!! Throughout the course of many months of editing this video, there were...many, many, many times I had to re-edit that sequence to add in something else I missed 😂
Darn!! I thought I caught everything!!
In the description of my video, I shared a public link to the spreadsheet recording all the instances of pain: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ckZ-ohNgfm2bC4JmrzLjfPEg1BKjSLZxgNlbvyj-MZc/edit?usp=sharing
I'm gonna add the instances you mentioned, and any other cases other people might mention, but probably highlight them in red as missing in the video 😂
Anyways, thanks for watching!
That throw was one of the best
Dude you finally solved what new SpongeBob is missing I couldn't figure it out now I do you don't understand what you just solved
Thanks for watching!!!
dude this is awesome i love the long form content. don't ever feel rushed to get these out we know how much effort they take.
thanks!!! Yeah i think my past three long-form videos each took me 8 months to make 😅
Thanks for watching and I'm glad you liked it!!
I'm glad you liked the intro!!!! I was hoping I could grab people's attention with it haha
thank you so much for the high quality subtitles, so many big youtubers don't even think about them so it's amazing for you to put in the work to make them accurate < 3
im glad i could be of help!!!
@@TheLocalMangakahow did u put in ur subtitles?
Thanks!!!
The dedication 😭😭👏🏼 unreal we love
@@Ambivlaent Thanks!!!!
It paid off! This video is fantastic :]
Great job!
Thanks for watching!! Glad you enjoyed it!!
this is one of the best SpongeBob analysis videos I’ve ever seen . I couldn’t believe it when I saw your subscriber count .
thank you!!!! i've made other long-form videos over the past few years, and i think by now i've learned to accept to not do these things primarily for views haha
But it's nice that this video is starting to gain some traction!!
Thank you for watching!!!
When spongebob's optimism started regularly being played off as annoying by default, that was the day the series lost it's heart.
10/10 meaningful and quality video that speaks to the generations touched by this masterpiece of a show. Going to share with my family because more than 85k people will appreciate this you've made a video essay of such high quality it is part of your legacy and will be watched into the future, unironically.
Thank you for watching and sharing!!! I'm glad you really liked it!!! I hope you have a good day!!
I came here expecting a monotone ranking of Squidward episodes and was instead greeted by a wonderful analysis with great editing, an intriguing history of SpongeBob and Hillenberg, and putting into words how wonderful the vibe of the show is. Now THIS is a video essay! Great job :)
Thank you!!! I indeed tried my best with this video haha
Glad you were able to appreciate it!!
Thank you!!! I too am very grateful for Hillenburg and wish he was still with us now 🥲
But yeah, thanks for watching, and best of luck with your art!!
you somehow made Band Geeks an even more cathartic experience than it already was.
wow
I'm glad you liked it!!
This is hands down one of the best SpongeBob analysis videos I've ever seen! The amazing introduction hooked me in to this rollercoaster ride of Squidward! You deserve many more views and subs for all the work you put into this!
Thank you so much for watching!!! Glad you liked it!!
Squidward is for me the most relatable character of the show actually.
The Cynicism but especially no matter what or how hard to tried it usually is futile as it ends in failure
😢s a d
man your style of sourcing/presentation utilizes video as an audiovisual medium so well. i wish more people did it like you do. ive only just started watching but its kinda peak. i love how you put the full quotes you paraphrase on screen!! can't do that in pure text medium(without disturbibg reading flow). man. masterclass!!!! really showing what video essays can be. i love squidward but this was truly such a pleasant surprise
thank you for watching!! i'm glad you appreciated the editing!! i hope you have a great day!!
anyone who loves spongebob needs to watch this. I can really see the passion you put into this video, really appreciate the research/analysis!
thank you!!! I'm glad you were able to enjoy it!!
Yep!! I def agree with your analysis of Squidward's immediate assumption of suspicion.
Thanks for watching!!
Thanks again for watching and commenting!!
commenting for engagement because this is such an amazing video and your channel deserves way more recognition!! definitely gonna rewatch the first 3 seasons of spongebob now
thank you for your contribution 🥲 glad you liked the video!!
Bro thanks for doing captions especially for a video of this length! I know it’s hard for smaller channels but it’s such a help to people like me who need them.
Very glad I was able to be of help!!!
Thank you!!!! I'm super glad you were able to watch it!!!
Actually fantastic video, I'm glad UA-cam sent it my way. I also really like how you used the BFBB music that fit the settings in the episodes you were discussing. Thank you for taking so much time to work on this
Hooray!!! I'm glad this video is getting a wider reach than I originally anticipated!!!
Thanks for watching!!
I often still watch them as background noise as i fall asleep nowadays hahaha
And thanks!
Absolutely fantastic video, i hope your channel gets the attention it deserves
Thank you!!! Glad this video is reaching people like you!! Have a good day!

I love this analysis and long-form video essay. /g
Also, semi-unrelated but as someone with auditory processing issues, I appreciate the subtitles! /g
oh wow that's amazing!!! i'm super glad the subtitles helped reach more people!!!
Thanks for watching and for commenting!!
I just love seeing characters grow like that, keeping the things we love about them (overall being cynical/ delivering deadpan humour) but also keeping the lessons they have learnt along the way 😭
Amazing essay and video!
this is great. thank you so much for taking the time to make this. spongebob is certainly one of the two most formative things of my childhood(the other being early Owl City music, lol) so this video feels like it was perfectly crafted for me. It couldnt have been more perfectly tailor made. thanks
I'm glad this video was able to find you!! Thanks for watching!!!!
Finally someone is aknowledging the water in the background.
My god you are so smart and underrated
Haha thanks!!
But yeah, it's neat to meet someone else who probably spends too much time thinking about SpongeBob haha
Thanks for watching, and I'm glad you liked the video!! Have a great day!!
This video was amazing. You're incredibly well-spoken and your editing is fantastic. You've received a new subscriber.
aahhh i'm glad you liked it!! it's really nice to finally start getting comments on this after working on this for so long 😅

You should do more of these!!! This is such good background noise for when I draw. Lovely analysis.
Please never stop making art ❤
I am more than excited to finish watching this today :)
Thank you!!! Idk if you finished it, but I'm glad you liked it so far!!! But yeah, definitely for sure there were many times especially 4-6 months in where i wondered if I'd ever get this done, so I'm glad someone understands haha. But I'm also glad I finally did!!!

Thank you!!!!
This is so well written and produced
Thankk you!!!
Honestly, thinking about it through the lens of absurdist philosophy, the gorilla ending actually does make a lot of sense. SpongeBob spends the entire episode paranoid about another freak incident leaving him confined to the iron butt for the rest of his life. This paranoia causes him to basically go into hiding, to run away from the chaos of the outside world in a futile attempt to maintain control, which is promptly shattered by a gorilla showing up and wreaking havoc, as if to say "no matter what you try to do, how hard you try to control the chaos of the world, you cannot outrun absurdity."
People will spend their entire lives running away from things they cannot control, and either waste their lives away in the process, or end up getting hurt anyways.
Great video! You’re editing is awesome.
thank you for watching!!!! and thanks, i put a lot of effort into trying to find the right clips for each moment haha
This might be the best SpongeBob analysis I’ve seen! Awesome job!
Thank you!!! I'm glad you like it!!
This is the greatest video I have ever seen, I watched the whole thing twice it is amazing
you watched it twice??? I don't think anybody's told me they've watched it twice so you might be the first!!! Thanks for watching!!! (twice!!!)
@@TheLocalMangaka well I’m surprised to hear that, your deep, in-depth analysis of this topic is fascinating, I will definitely continue to watch all future uploads of yours multiple times. Keep up the great work 👍
how do you only have 4 thousand subs? the amount of effort and the video quality is deserving of atleast a million.
Thank you.
Thank you for watching!!! I'm glad this video helped you in some way. Your comment made my day as well!!
I lost words watching this video over how good it was. This video is one of the best videos I’ve ever watched and I mean that I hope you realize how good you are making these types of videos because I really don’t want to stop also those last two minutes of the video really inspired me and helped me and I wanted to let you know that in some sort of way you changed my outlook on life.thank for creating this masterpiece of a video.
Waiwaiwait a second!!!!
This video doesn’t even have 100k views??? I thought it had over a million, and was confused as to why it seemed you replied to all the comments!!
DUDE YOU ARE WAY UNDERRATED YOU DESERVE ALL THR VIEWS
I think at this point, I've taught myself to not make videos primarily for views haha (but 70k views is actually a TON of views to me!!)
I just try to make videos about what I think would be personally fulfilling!!
Bravo!! seriously fantastic video! I WILL be sharing. I got teary and this gave me a whole new appreciation for SpongeBob and Squidward especially!
Thanks for watching!!! Go and spread the good word of Squidward--the squid words!!!
I don’t have time to watch the whole thing tonight but I am in awe of how much effort was put into this. Awesome work!!
