The snowman wasn't melting he was using his own body as snowballs to throw at you until there was none of him left. Truly genius writing and a metaphor for the cost of success 🙏
I love how Ninja Kiwi is heavily involved with their community, to the point they knew that one half of their game was a hellscape full of escaped mental asylum patients and the other half was a bunch of 5 year olds, that they made two more games based off of the respective sides.

2:39:24 The secret is found, it was added in update 42 and found an update later: If you sacrifice 5 Tiers of each category to a temple, and place a 000 tower of the same category on specific places; the middle will vanish and Everseer, a non-atacking Navarch will appear, it will hook in any Blimp what’s not a BAD. And also Dreadbloon's Rockbloons. So pretty cool.
I love how Aliensrock and ISAB both cemented themselves so much in Bloons culture to the point they appear in literal essays about the Bloons Franchise trajectory
The fact that he made an entire 3 hour essay about monkeys that throw darts at bloons is insanity And not to mention that there's actual editing just is amazing.
The blooms lore is literally just: There are these Balloons, spelled Bloon(s). These Bloons cause the monkeys to die, so they throw darts, boomerangs, bombs, lasers, God’s fire, and fricking mortars at them. Meanwhile the blooms are sending progressively stronger blooms, camouflaged blooms, blooms immune to magic that the monkeys have somehow, bloons immune to explosions and cold, and blimps just to get to the end of a path to somewhere.

1:10:08 I'd just like to address that setting the flash version of battles to "Low Quality" was necessary in competitive gameplay as it actually allowed you to compact towers closer together. It also reduced lag so that's why the quality was so poor. Sick video btw
I used to play the original Bloons back in computer lab in college instead of doing homework. Now 20 years later my son plays Bloons TB6 on his tablet.
Still waiting on the Cobra being added in BTD6 as either a support unit or Hero unit, but otherwise, yeah, this is a company that learns from what they did wrong, and listen to the community surrounding their games. Hell yeah,
I lost it at 29:59. Not only did the song get claimed, not only did that exact same song get claimed _multiple times,_ it got claimed *29 times,* which is such a specific number. I can imagine that after the 29th claim, they were like "Nah, that's enough. 30 would be overkill." And there's also the fact that an image site apparently has music. Great job, man.
Excellent video, and thank you for the nice comments about the music, I love writing for the Bloons games, and I look forward to bringing you more music in the future. Your Bloons Monkey City Music was incredible. I can’t imagine how long it took to have that much talent. It was so good they even added it to BTD 6 in the store
Yknow, I liked Ninja Kiwi for their games, but never really looked passed that. Now, after knowing just how well they actually respond and how community driven they are, genuinely makes me love the games even more. A ton of games don't even have half the community interaction NK has with it's fans, it's actually quite amazing
I'm always impressed when game devs go above and beyond. Most won't even respond to an important question, let alone provide this level of fan service.
battles 2 has got to be the biggest case of a poor release killing a game, nowadays everyone acts like every game can pull a no man's sky, but their rebound was impressive because it was an exception to the rule
Survived By was an early-access game teased at the Game awards. It was in development for years, but its launch into early access was so bad it died and the game has been shut down completely. There's plenty of other games that endured similar fates. I wouldn't say it's the biggest case of a poor release killing a game, because it's still technically alive on mobile and PC. Several hundred active players is more than like 99% of all fighting games.
I know I'm a year late, but this is both true and sad. If BTD battles 2 had released in the state it's in today, it would have been much better received. Unfortunately, it was so incredibly grindy upon launch that it lost the majority of it's playerbase in a couple weeks flat.
Yeah, like titanfall2, it's one of my favorite games, but its release was in-between a cod game and a battlefield game, and if it had a better release, it probably could've got the attention it deserved also we need a sequel for it
Battles 2 isn't bad these days, however I do NOT condone the "release now, finish later" mentality that's become so prevalent in gaming recently, so I still think NK needs to be criticized for it even if the game is playable now
BDT5 actually got a major update in November 2022 that added a shit ton of new stuff. A new Special Agent, a new map, a new gamemode, and 10 premium skins meant to recreate the retro art-style of the older towers. Finally, an actual update besides a new map every few months.
be grateful for even those map updates i mean the games 10 years old and barely has any players left yet nks still pouring in resources to maintain the game one has to appreciate that
that is quite considerate of the developer considering he had already released BTD6 and BTD battles 2. Most developers now days abandon their games before they even release a new one
I love that in BTD6 they added the callback to N.A.P.S.F.R.I.L.L.S through C.H.I.M.P.S mode, even if its easier in BTD6 it's amazing that they stayed so involved with the community.
I think my favourite part about BTD and ninja kiwi is how connected to their community they are. They're basically founded off community contributions and they've remembered that by very clearly listening to their contributions
it's just a shame the community is mostly comprised of idiots i doubt paragons will ever be fixed functionally, and especially visually (the entire idea is combining the 3 paths, why the fuck are people letting missing paths slide)
Pretty sure 'Bloons Pop Three' is just indicating that it's part of the 'match three' genre of puzzle games like Bejeweled, though you never hear them called 'match three' games nowadays which is probably where the confusion stems from
Just watched the finale to Hot Air Bloon, it ends in an epic chase after the Monkey Baron while Flight of The Valkyries plays in the background. You then save your wife, while Monkey Baron vows revenge and is revealed to be your evil brother.

1:04:45 "Someone should make a tower defense game where your towers dying is a core mechanic" Technically, you got the Plants vs Zombies Wall-nuts, and instant use plants. You also have Inscryption where sacrificing some of your "towers" lets you get better, stronger towers.
People keep mentioning pvz and its kind of my fault I didn't go into it. The type of game I meant was one where your towers die of old age, as in they expire after a certain number of turns. Rather than just a game where they can die

The fact "You lose as many lives as the bloon had bloons inside it plus 1" is correct. If a blue bloon escapes, it has 1 bloon inside (a red one) so u lose 2 lives, 1 for the red one and one for the blue one. But it only has 1 bloon inside itself. The plus 1 comes from the phrasing that it only counts the ones INSIDE so the bloon itself is missing in the counting there.
The dedication it takes to make a three hour video while trying every game is a whole nother level that I don’t have the patience to do. Thanks for the history!
Imagine one day Sam appears in a video addressing random questions by community, and at Encrypted's secret he goes: "What do you mean 《Doesn't do anything》? Look, I have a game of Encrypted on mine phone here right now... - he pulls phone out of his pocket and BTD6 soundtrack overlayed with popping bloons can be heard, - ... and if I place correct towers here..." A few seconds of jolly music pass as Sam stares at his phone, his expression rapidly growing extremely concerned, before he drops his phone and points to person behind the camera, shouting "Cut the records! It's gone!!!", before video ends abruptly, BTD soundtrack on the last few moments being drown out by blaring sounds of emergency alarms...
That would be awesome! Especially if they First Striked his exact location to neutralise him, therefore stopping him from making Encrypted into Decrypted!! :D
Bro I used this video to fall asleep for over 2 weeks now and always started at the point where I fell asleep last night. I'm still not halfway done. Never slept so good tho
I was born in 1997, my entire childhood aligned perfectly with the entire Golden age of flash browser games. I have such a strong nostalgic feeling for the tens of thousands of random forgotten flash games I played growing up; I didn't have a good enough PC to play actual pc games and I didn't get new console games very often because we were kinda poor. Bloons is one of those few flash games that became so successful it broke out of the status of silly flash game into being an actual legitimate full videogame, and for that it'll always be close to my heart.
I actually loved city. I thought the limited amount of towers and town building aspect were pretty unique and made the game feel fresh. Aswell as the others blooms added.
The Sand snowman in the Christmas Edition of Bloons 2 might be because Ninja Kiwi is an NZ company, and in NZ, Christmas happens at the same time as the rest of the world, but its seasons are the opposite of northern countries seasons due to hemisphere differences. So it might be a nod that in NZ, if you wanna make a snowman during Christmas you'd probably have to settle for using sand instead of snow
Yeah, Summer in the southern hemisphere. no Winter Christmas here. Sand 'snow'men are somewhat common on NZ beaches in December but I'm not sure about other southern hemisphere countries.

It's so awesome how a game I remember being integral to 7 year old me, that I had all but forgotten about, has a thriving community, consistent updates and an unbelievably high amount of easter eggs
Yeah I remember playing Bloons as a little kid when I got my first personal computer ... graduated from all the base windows game like Space Pinball and Spider Solitaire to flash games and exploring all the flash games on the internet. Bloons tower defense was one of my favorite flash games to play with siblings, we even liked the other non tower defense Bloons games & stalked newgrounds for more unique games to try
12:13 The tip actually is true! "If a bloon escapes, you lose as many lives as the bloon had bloons *inside* it plus 1" where the plus 1 is for the bloon itself.
Bloons TD3 started a very weird obsession when I was a child. I played around with it, until my 45 year old father decided to try it out. He still plays Bloons games to this day when he gets the chance, It warms my heart and really makes me smile when I see it.
A bit of an addendum: The beekeeper originated in BTD5 before being added to BTD4 mobile, and the dartling gunner and spike factory were BTD4 expansion pack towers that were added into the BTD4 base game afterward.
I want to say, this is the first long form video I ever watched. And rewatching it now I realized why I got into long formed content, and it now makes sense this is genuinely a really good video
Man, I always wanted a 2 hour 46 minute and 32 second long video about a funny balloon popping monkey game explaining all the story and history of a small video game, thanks for making it!
The way you mix in completely unexpected jokes and random edits into videos and have them be consistently funny is genuinely amazing and it only gets better over time. Also I never knew that I needed an extensive video going over the entire history of the Bloons franchise until now especially since I was wholly unaware of half of these.
This is a awesome walkdown memory lane. Thank you for this. I remember that I played a ton of Flash games on my moms laptop during this time. I didn't knew it back then, but I really was there when a new BTD Game was released. And I really started the series, when there was only the first game. It is insane hot hard the first game is compared to the later ones.
Ninjakiwi seems to be always working to serve the community which is awesome to see, adding in so many fan made maps and features in btd6, constantly keeping really old games updated and even recognizing the community divide in the original bloons player base and making unique games for both sides
By far one of the best videos I've seen in a long time. This movie was genuinely a roller-coaster of nostalgia, laughs, and confusion. And yes, I watched the ENTIRE thing. 10/10.
This has been in my recommended for the past couple days and i got around to watching it finally and i can say that it was well worth the watch. Insanely impressive video with the amount of research that went into it, can't wait for you to do an updated version of this video in 5 years going over all of the btd 6 updates :D! I also think you capture just how good BTD6 is as a game, I got back into it a couple of months ago after not playing it for a while and the updates always seem to add something wildly impressive and content that can keep you playing for ages. I also think that the community interaction is probably ninja kiwi's biggest strength with the implementation of maps and other such things.
What next? The Five Nights at Freddy’s Song, based by the hit video game horror series, Five Nights at Freddy’s, composed by the artists, The Living Tombstone?
@@raihanvarghese8553 your grammar is outstandingly bad. but i sure would love to see the song Five Nights at Freddy's based on the hit video game horror series of the same name, composed by The Living Tombstone. and maybe a few years after the last song for FNaF, somewhere in like 2022 The Living Tombstone will release a mediocre song that uses the same voice editing as the first song. that'd be so cool, i'd strangle myself to fdetah.
oh hey I did the graphics and animation for BTD 3 , POP3 and a few othe rolder ninja kiwi games, this was a fun blast from the past thank you! Hehe to be fair there was only 3 of us in the company and we were learning as we went so it was a bit experimental :P
I dont know why, but I CONSTANTLY find myself rewatching this over and over. Whether invested or just kinda in the background. Maybe the video is just THAT good to me
The random CoC references, the jokes he makes, his voice, everything about this video I loved. A well spent 2 hours, 46 minutes and 32 seconds. edit, 33 seconds, thank you Obiwan.
This video played in my recommended auto-play, and I just kept listening to it while doing something else and then two hours later I was like "How long has this guy been on about Bloons?"
Simply WOW. I didnt believe that this video was THAT interesting. I delayed watching it for 1 month and i regret it. The script was splendid. All the story was wonderful. I respect you so much, you just made my childhood 10 times better. Thank you.
idk if someone mentioned it, but the 2 secret Christmas levels being "sand" themes is most likely a reference to Ociana having Christmas during their summer.
Usually I don’t comment twice but dude this video is so insanely good. I had never heard of BTD before and now I feel like my brain is 5x heavier. The editing is timed perfectly and it makes this such a funny video that I have sat through half of it at this point and it probably will be one of my favourite niche essay videos ever. Fantastic job. I hope this video gets the recognition it deserves.
Having grown up with the entire Bloons series myself it’s always a shame seeing people who don’t know most of the games outside of the td series so finally having a video like this confirming is not alone and educating others is really nice
fun fact: they actually found the easter egg in encrypted. you need a supermonkey in the middle and one T5 of each category in the other pedestals when you sacrifice the the T5s to the sun temple, all the pedestals will collapse and a portal will appear. it deals constant damage to bloons and pulls moabs, bfbs and zomgs like the pirate lord.
@@Minosprime69420 also good, also thanks for the compliment, the picture is a bit outdated and I might change it soon but I appreciate the compliment 😄

Almost three hours of video and i was hooked every single second, this video is simply a masterpiece AND a masterclass in editing, research and comedy, deserves every single view it has and oh so many more, this video should be in a museum
47:25 ok so fun fact: Ninja Kiwi is based in New Zealand and in that part of the world, the summer season is over December - February so Christmas happens during that kind of weather Also amazing video, can't believe this is such an underrated channel
Bloons Monkey City 2 is what I hope for, since the first one was actually my favorite for a handful of reasons. City building is quite fun for me, and I didn't mind the waiting all that much. I loved the tile capture system that changes the tracks and minor rulesets based on the terrain of the tile, plus the fact that each tile's bloons were not set in stone; memorizing the bloons would only work for one tile at a time. The feeling of progression was a cool change of pace, and limiting tower spam until your city got bigger promoted diversifying what strategies you used. Every tile was its own challenge, that is what I loved about it. The PC version adding a second city to work on at the same time with new terrain, music, and the engineer, was a good way to extend play sessions between needing to wait for things to finish building. The mobile features like the Monkey Knowledge crates and Bloonstones were technically microtransactions, but were plentiful enough just by playing well that it was never necessary to buy more. They actually handled it the best possible way IMO. I didn't like the MvM mode though, it just wasn't for me, so the fact that they had a Pacifist option that prevented you from being attacked and let you focus solely on city growth was a great feature. The Contested Territory was the better way to implement competitive to BMC. I love pretty much everything about BMC, so seeing a sequel that gave it BTD6's towers and upgrades with the city building progression and tile system would be a dream come true--AS LONG AS they don't get scummy with the microtransactions. First game did it perfectly, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I mean BTD games are always felt the same Same wave, same enemies for most of the time Usually its only new tower and map, but basic stuff isnt changed HOWEVER, monkey city shift it drastically. Same with adventure time. Sadly as this video said, ppl love BTD not as tower defense but as a sandbox game. So, new twist and invention to gameplay are mostly abandoned. Battles are taking unique new rules on top of sandbox gameplay, so its still survive (he explains battles player is like "could the enemies defend this rush?, how far stages we could get?" Etc. ) Not that i hate it but it gets boring after a while.
You put so much effort into the video man. It took me all day to finish the vid since I took breaks every once in a while and the vid was so good I fr thought it was only 30 mins, I was completely shocked to see I spent hours watching monke pop balloon lore
36:44 the implication that the bloons vs monkeys rivalry in the BTD games all came from blatant cruetly of the ancestors of the protagonists almost EXACTLY like Donkey Kong Circus with the original Donkey Kong just pleases me to no end for some weird reason.
40:09 - I remember making custom levels for Bloons 2 and was genuinely rather sad when I saw that it was gone, it even said it would be coming back for a while but it never did.
If you're curious in the first Battles there are still files left over for a map editor. At this point an editor isn't needed anymore since we can basically maps without an editor it's just very time consuming

Ninja Kiwi seems to me a perfect example of "he's a little confused but he's got the spirit".
I've been trying to think of a way to describe NK in a nutshell and I think this is one of the best ways to put it
They legit made a ton of updates to BTDB2 after this video, and now there's a bunch of people playing it after being dead for so long.
And they learn from the mistakes they make too, always nice to see
*"B I K E R B O N E S , R I D E S A G A I N"* - NK employee
Still waiting on the Cobra being added in BTD6 as either a support unit or Hero unit, but otherwise, yeah, this is a company that learns from what they did wrong, and listen to the community surrounding their games. Hell yeah,
I lost it at 29:59. Not only did the song get claimed, not only did that exact same song get claimed _multiple times,_ it got claimed *29 times,* which is such a specific number. I can imagine that after the 29th claim, they were like "Nah, that's enough. 30 would be overkill." And there's also the fact that an image site apparently has music. Great job, man.
And it was at 29 minutes

Hi Tim!
Your Bloons Monkey City Music was incredible. I can’t imagine how long it took to have that much talent.
It was so good they even added it to BTD 6 in the store
You have made me reconsider my thoughts on listening to video game OST's
"Youre given the option to fry eggs on your overheating computer" this got me
Yknow, I liked Ninja Kiwi for their games, but never really looked passed that.

I feel like that's somewhat common with studios that started as Flash game developers.
They literally took 94 days to fix their completely broken game
Ah yes 3 months to fix broken game
battles 2 has got to be the biggest case of a poor release killing a game, nowadays everyone acts like every game can pull a no man's sky, but their rebound was impressive because it was an exception to the rule
Several hundred active players is more than like 99% of all fighting games.
maybe part of the reason is that they deliberately lied about microtransactions
Finally, an actual update besides a new map every few months.
be grateful for even those map updates
i mean the games 10 years old and barely has any players left yet nks still pouring in resources to maintain the game one has to appreciate that
that is quite considerate of the developer considering he had already released BTD6 and BTD battles 2. Most developers now days abandon their games before they even release a new one
You might be the only person who said "finally new BTD5 content" when it came out, but I have to respect you for it.
THATS MY FUCKING PFP

This video doesn't feel long, it just feels like a really fun regular video that magically goes for 2 hours.
I love that in BTD6 they added the callback to N.A.P.S.F.R.I.L.L.S through C.H.I.M.P.S mode, even if its easier in BTD6 it's amazing that they stayed so involved with the community.
2:01:04 2:01:13

I think my favourite part about BTD and ninja kiwi is how connected to their community they are. They're basically founded off community contributions and they've remembered that by very clearly listening to their contributions

Pretty sure 'Bloons Pop Three' is just indicating that it's part of the 'match three' genre of puzzle games like Bejeweled, though you never hear them called 'match three' games nowadays which is probably where the confusion stems from

I have such a strong nostalgic feeling for the tens of thousands of random forgotten flash games I played growing up; I didn't have a good enough PC to play actual pc games and I didn't get new console games very often because we were kinda poor. The Sand snowman in the Christmas Edition of Bloons 2 might be because Ninja Kiwi is an NZ company, and in NZ, Christmas happens at the same time as the rest of the world, but its seasons are the opposite of northern countries seasons due to hemisphere differences. Sand 'snow'men are somewhat common on NZ beaches in December but I'm not sure about other southern hemisphere countries.

I mean BTD games are always felt the same
Same wave, same enemies for most of the time
Usually its only new tower and map, but basic stuff isnt changed
HOWEVER, monkey city shift it drastically. Same with adventure time.
Sadly as this video said, ppl love BTD not as tower defense but as a sandbox game. So, new twist and invention to gameplay are mostly abandoned. Battles are taking unique new rules on top of sandbox gameplay, so its still survive (he explains battles player is like "could the enemies defend this rush?, how far stages we could get?" Etc. )
Not that i hate it but it gets boring after a while.

And got 7 milion views but he deserve every single one of them. Good job, if you are making a new video I recomand Swords and Sandals and all the games from that creator. Keep it up king, make 3 hours videos about any game and I will watch it.
Hi

ENCRYPTED ACTUALLY HAS SOMETHING you need to
1. put a sun avatar on the center platform
2. put 50k worth of each tower type on their respective platforms
3. put a monkey from each type on the graves corresponding to the symbols on the platforms in the center
4. upgrade the avatar into a temple
i dont want to spoil what this reveals but it is kinda cool
I'm in absolute shock and disbelief that I was around almost at the start of Bloons! I was 8 years old back in 2007 using school computers to play BTD1 shortly after it came out. Still keeping up with the modern Bloons games ever since!
