IDK if anyone's said this before but Brad is the Marshal Eriksen of Bon Appetit because he's fluffy, energetic, bright, and creative PLUS he's incredibly good at his job but we don't focus on that because we see his personality first.
Love that brad feels the same way about food competitions. They are not cooking at its heart which is about joy, community, well-being and love. Everything that is lost when people are pitted against each other 🥺
I honestly love how everybody talks on length regarding the knife skills and the intricacies and purposes and the overall value of them. While Gaby just says 1 sentence of “yeah there’s no need.”
Says someone who needs 6 minutes to dice a single potato. Everything is a waste of time if you suck at it. Judging by her knife skills, she takes 45 minutes to make a simple omelette with vegetables. Unless of course she just chucks the whole things in, skin and all, because apparently knowing how to use knife in the kitchen is overrated.
Just wanted to say, I love the energy in this comment section: let's not take things too seriously, just have a nice competition and as long as the food tastes good it's all well. BA thanks for bringing the best out of us.
10 points for Brad pointing out that sharp knives safer than dull, I have that argument so many times. People like "ahh if it's too sharp I'll cut myself" I'm like "if it's blunt you'll slip and cut yourself!!"
one of the things i love about BA is how personable and realistic they are when it comes to cooking, how they're all professional chefs that admit there's no one right way to do things, especially when they're all so different. they're good people
Brad: "If there's one thing they definitely did teach you was how to do... you know... little old... *deep sigh* formal, french, cuts" Nicely dodged, Brad.
Actually, I'm a homecook and I love cutting potatoes into a macédoine when I sauté them. Sure it's a lot of prep work, but they cook faster, they mix better with other vegetables or whatever seasoning you want to use and you can eat them by the spoonful. I also love just throwing them in a super hot pan with oil and they get a crust and get tender inside almost instantly.

Agreed.. every time he’s tested he proves his skill and knowledge. Really thought he was just the guy who walked into other people’s episodes with cool clothing.
Elise Marcelle that's Rapaport 🤣
@@deyesed don't forget the guitar
brad's perception of the exercises from culinary school being a good way to practice disciple and attention detail, is how i feel needless classes should be approached.
... practise discipline* and attention to* detail ...
Anything containing Chris and Brad, I will like.
Anything from BA, I will like
IDK if anyone's said this before but Brad is the Marshal Eriksen of Bon Appetit because he's fluffy, energetic, bright, and creative PLUS he's incredibly good at his job but we don't focus on that because we see his personality first.
Love that brad feels the same way about food competitions. They are not cooking at its heart which is about joy, community, well-being and love.
Everything that is lost when people are pitted against each other 🥺
I Love how it turn into a “history of our lives, and why we like to cook”
Ok, BUT WHERE IS CARLA????
She won so fast they had to take her out so that the others didn't get upset. No one can compete with a mom.
She's never in these videos, I think I read somewhere that she isn't a part of the official BA crew anymore she just comes back for her series
@@coffeesticks_03 i think she's on the cheese test one
Edit: yep, she's on the cheese and carrot test video
@@coffeesticks_03 I think you're thinking of Claire.
If I had to guess, she is at one of her parents' 15 homes.
I am available for adoption and can operate a pizza oven btw...
“The sick person who’s watching”
Brad,,, I feel called out 😂
"We're gonna do a little knife skills challenge"
Chris: *Already in a ready stance, focusing on things in front of him*
"Okay"
I'm dead
I honestly love how everybody talks on length regarding the knife skills and the intricacies and purposes and the overall value of them. While Gaby just says 1 sentence of “yeah there’s no need.”
Amiel: Andy’s gonna do this so fast and it’s gonna be annoying
Andy: Did he say my name?
Amiel: NO
That Allicin box on Bads garlic start was editing gold! I actually loled
Everyone keeps saying this but he *did* smash the garlic just like the previous two chefs. What is everyone noticing that I didn't?
In the early Its Alive episodes whenever Brad had garlic he would talk about Alicin.
Patrick Morales ah I see. Thanks!
6:39 yeah Molly, that's why you squared them right away without peeling, we all know you love competition!
She’s the worst
@@SharkeyStormcrow What's wrong with being competitive in a competition?
4:22 Chris Morocco really calling me out
4:21 well no need to call me out like that 😭
I know they're pros, but I'm still soo afraid for their fingers
You shouldn't ever fear a knife, nor fear proper knife technique.
@@emzee1148 what if someone's coming at you with a knife
@@sepiriz2140 If their technique is good, don't fear them.
I was afraid for the fingers because this is a time test and that's just not the sort of thing you want to do fast
@@sepiriz2140 Your more likely to get hurt by being afraid and not using proper technique.
"don't do this at home, this is a waste of your time" Haha Priyanka
Says someone who needs 6 minutes to dice a single potato. Everything is a waste of time if you suck at it. Judging by her knife skills, she takes 45 minutes to make a simple omelette with vegetables. Unless of course she just chucks the whole things in, skin and all, because apparently knowing how to use knife in the kitchen is overrated.
I'd love to see a video where folks talk about their favorite chef knife.
We needed Maangchi down there to show them how it's really done
In the name of the lefties who cook, I want to say that we do not hold the knife as Priya does... just saying
Andy is the last person I think would lose this, and Amiel is the last person to win. *WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU GUYS?!*
Andy just loves to talk 😭
3:53 “Trapezoids & Triangles” is my favorite Prince album
Just wanted to say, I love the energy in this comment section: let's not take things too seriously, just have a nice competition and as long as the food tastes good it's all well. BA thanks for bringing the best out of us.
10 points for Brad pointing out that sharp knives safer than dull, I have that argument so many times. People like "ahh if it's too sharp I'll cut myself" I'm like "if it's blunt you'll slip and cut yourself!!"
one of the things i love about BA is how personable and realistic they are when it comes to cooking, how they're all professional chefs that admit there's no one right way to do things, especially when they're all so different. they're good people
“Andy’s gonna do this so fast it’s gonna be annoying...”
“No body want square vegetables.”
Would you tell my instructors that?
There's a time and a place for everything. Except for square veggies.
It's just a skill challenge, to show that one can handle a knife.
Perfectly squaring or perfectly slicing vegetables is about as big a waste of time as peeling carrots or potatoes.
I’m aware of the reason why knife cuts are important in culinary school but I’m pretty sure the world would be better off without them
Easy to eat. Not many vegetables you can just eat with a spoon.
Brad: "If there's one thing they definitely did teach you was how to do... you know... little old... *deep sigh* formal, french, cuts"
Nicely dodged, Brad.
Chris to me is basically a cooking god "I don't care, I will not waste and I will also make everything perfectly, deal with it"
"Macédoine"
Brad: Do I have to say that?
😂 😂 😂
Gabby you rocked this yes
"Do i have to say that?"
"No"
*BRAD* 😭
The moment my guy Andy aka cover girl has been waiting for 😩😂 but Molly is so competitive
*Edit - damn i was wronngggg
Same girl, not only did he not win he came dead last that too
JAZZ n MOTION that's what I thought too!!!
Chris: Carefully trimming the edges to reduce wastage and maximise yield
Molly: 🥾🥔
"the no look mince" 😂😂😂
Molly with the real professional knife skills from culinary school. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
she didn't go to culinary school.
Agree with Brad. Competition cooking is a very different skillset from functional/feed-yo-self cooking
More about their backgrounds, please!! So fun to hear about their experience and what got them into this field.
Actually, I'm a homecook and I love cutting potatoes into a macédoine when I sauté them. Sure it's a lot of prep work, but they cook faster, they mix better with other vegetables or whatever seasoning you want to use and you can eat them by the spoonful. I also love just throwing them in a super hot pan with oil and they get a crust and get tender inside almost instantly.
like the checkered guy who is thinking about yields. he is right. in a realistic way. he won. because in real kitchen, you can't just square off the whole thing and only get 50 percent of the ingredient.
