td866 how do you know she was jobless? i doubt BA would just hand out jobs like this to people with no experience in the culinary field. stop degrading sohla and her experience.
@j mula How exactly is she overpaid? Do you know how much living wages are in Manhattan? The average rent is 4,000 a month. Since it seems like you’re stupid, 4,000 multiplied by 12 is 48,000 dollars. I multiplied by 12 because that’s the number of months in a year. Are you catching up yet? 50,000-48,000=2,000. What exactly do you do with 2,000? I’ve not even accounted for taxes. You racist, ignorant people just want something to complain about because you live cushy, privileged lives. i can't believe bon appetit didn't pay sohla for this video she bodied and ran circles around everyone. also the dehydrated pasta reminded me of something my grandma would make but with yellow noodles! it was super cool to watch.
@j mula Sohla said so on her Insta. BA didn't compensate any of the BIPOC editors for video appearances.
@j mula just look on Sohla's insta, look on Twitter, its p easy to find out
@j mula It's not illegial. It's just a dumb decision.
@j mula so she gets her base salary, but Chris and Carla are given an additional bonus for being in videos.
@j mula Proof on that?
Hunzi saying, “DELANY!” is terrific; like father, like son.

Great catch!
I feel like we've found Sohla's show here. Something with experiments and science-based cooking.
imagine a show of sohla just making classic meals into desserts
YES THEY NEED TO GIVE HER A SHOW LIKE THAT!!!!
I concur!
yes yes yes yes yes perfect
Omg I really hope they make it her show 😭 💕
Sohla is like that really humble smart friend you have who's always like "Oh I'm sure I did really bad in that test" and then gets like the highest marks
You threw Solha in here as a prop - pay the woman!
And even then she BODIED the project and dusted them! She's the best full stop.
j mula she said it herself, on her instagram. the rest of the ba team backed her up.
When Hunzi raised his hand to high-five Sohla, and she walked away like that, I felt that.
If this was It's Alive, the editing would have been absolutely golden in that one moment.
He played it off so well! Kept the awkwardness but turned it into a bit. Good director is good.
We ALL felt that
You may not infect me today good sir
✋ High-fives for Hunzi! 🤚
all the staff in the test kitchen: SOHLA 😍
everybody in the comments: SOHLA 😍
tiny birds and woodland creatures, probably: SOHLA 😍
facts and only facts
it’s what she deserves 🥺
The lovely SOHLA
Hahahaha
This is everything
She's incredible, what a genius
I hope they turn this into a series, this was such a fun episode.
Yesss
YESSS
Yes, with these three
These 3, doing the same 3 roles each time... Sohla needs the spotlight! Experimental is her calling!
@@adriennecarruthers9265 we all definitely need more sohla... At this point I'd be surprised if they didn't give us more of her content, it's obvious we all love her lol
It is so distressing to watch this video knowing they only pay Sohla 50k per year. It is *obvious* she deserves much more, especially watching Chris ruin her guanciale when she had a good thing going. She is brilliant. She is a delight to watch on camera. She is an incredible asset to Bon Appetit, and if they know what's good, they'll double her salary and get her her own dang show.
j mula she is severely underpaid compared to her white peers. to live in a big city like that? 50k is practically nothing!! sohla deserves her salary doubled AND compensation for the way conde nast screwed her over.
ohla was JOBLESS before BA....getting 50K/year for making 4 videos on her own and 4 with other people in less than 1 year after being JOBLESS and GAINED AN AUDIENCE with BA. STFU!
td866 how do you know she was jobless? i doubt BA would just hand out jobs like this to people with no experience in the culinary field. stop degrading sohla and her experience.
j mula do you just take pleasure in being an awful person?
@j mula How exactly is she overpaid? Do you know how much living wages are in Manhattan? The average rent is 4,000 a month. Since it seems like you’re stupid, 4,000 multiplied by 12 is 48,000 dollars. I multiplied by 12 because that’s the number of months in a year. Are you catching up yet? 50,000-48,000=2,000. What exactly do you do with 2,000? I’ve not even accounted for taxes. You racist, ignorant people just want something to complain about because you live cushy, privileged lives. Do NOT come after Sohla. Sick of this racist crap.
Do a show called 'Making it Weird: With Sohla!' where she just does experimental riffs on iconic dishes.
great idea!
I want that but collabed with It's Alive
I feel like Chris really absorbs the energy of whoever he's with. He's one personality with Brad, another with Claire, and another with these two.
@Will but its a tolerable pretentiousness
tiffany fan it’s endearing pretentiousness
That’s so relatable though. I feel Chris on such a deep level, he’s my favourite chef of the bunch.
I love him when hes with himself as well, so sassy and seeking utter perfection.
Well with Brad you have to know how to reign that in.
Claire always needs encouragement and support.
Carla & Sohla are sure of what they are doing and pretty self contained.
Sohla is such a talent. I’m glad she’s getting time on the channel.
Sohla's thought process when puffing the noodles was a treat to watch. Genius!
Sohla to Chris: "I was mostly making that to troll you" SOHLA MY QUEEN

Chris: Using technical, descriptive terms to genuinely describe why he loves the pasta water foam.
Sohla: I was making that to *TROLL U*
Sooooo, y’all are gonna start a show where Sohla makes experimental dishes now right?

Carla cooks with such ease, and her dishes always look delicious. She's the person everyone wants to hang with.
Chris is so intentional and precise about his cooking. I love the insight he brings to all the applications.
Sohla is a freaking unicorn. 🦄 😍
Unicorn, hahaha! You're funny.
I don't know how or why, but Sohla being described as a unicorn just makes so much sense.

Bon appetite, Sohla experiments!
Yes, Make it a series.
Nah. No such luck. More like Sohla breaks BA.
I like Chris in this setting. He's on his A game and he's fun to watch
billiondollardan all 3 of them seemed to be. Love watching people do what they’re good at
Chris was definetely at his own element, for sure.
Classy, modern, refined, methodical stuff. I like it.
Chris is actually in the toughest position here - basic people will love the traditional. Sohla gets to really show off and play around with experimental.
Somehow Chris has to thread the needle. He can't get too inspired, but he can't have it look too normal.
Totally agreed!
@@recoil53 And that is exactly why Chris was the perfect chef for it!

1. Claire - reaching Day 4
2. Brad - 10 minutes into hosting Gourmet Makes
3. Sohla - this series
This comment is fricking golden
Love the Carm pfp ; P
To be fair, it was minute 40 for Brad lol
Chris: the second time he tastes a cheese while blindfolded
This might be the best series yet, which is saying a lot since every other show is also phenomenal.
I agree! Maybe it's because it's giving us almost three episodes at the price of one, but I actually think there's more to it. The integrations between the chefs add more to it.
This reads like a version of the Epicurious series 4 Levels but all three chefs are Level 3. I’m intrigued to see where they take it.
I just adore Carla, I don't think she's ever cooked something that I think I wouldn't eat. She could sell me on it no matter what. She really brings something wholesome and organic to the kitchen.
I can’t even express how much the BA test kitchen crew is improving my mood during quarantine.

Sohla literally killed this. Imagine just coming up with this
We need a Sohla show where she showcases science-y cooking techniques. She's the chocolate tempress/temperor after all. Booze must also be involved somehow lol.
Molecular Gastronomy Mondays with Sohla
Or a show where she makes an experimental dish
I have a theory Sohla is secretly the brains behind the whole operation.
Sohla just has a crazy idea and executes it perfectly. Claire and her struggle is relatable but Sohla and her decisiveness is awe inspiring.
Fun fact: Sohla didn't make any $$ for this appearance. PAY HER THE MONEY, BA. And all the back pay for previous videos. NOW.

Sohla, such a nihilist punk rocker / gosh darn ray of sunshine.

I dont think at all she's a punk rocker really unless you mean that she's an individual and her own person maybe?
This is art. Carla’s quote about the things you learn by just paying attention to the food instead of following instructions is gold
So true, that was my favourite moment in this entire episode. Carla was the star of the video for me
That and Chris's "Sometimes not terrible is great"
Please, no black pepper in traditional, none whatsoever. Garlic only a hint by swirling a clove in the pan and then remove for only a hint. I have seen my 94 year mom make this dish many, many times.

i hope this is a continued series and I hope it's (usually) these three lol
Is Sohla secretly a genius or something? The info that she knows about frying and puffing pasta blows my mind!
We don’t see it a lot because she doesn’t have her own show, but she’s incredibly intelligent and innovative.
