@@michael-4k4000 The Bravia 9 has anywhere from 1500-2800 zones depending on model size. The increase in zones is only part of the story though. It's really the 22 bit ic driver and sony's processing that makes them special
But is it good enough? The X95L looked amazing and was best lcd tv ever. Sony has been in a weird place with LCD TVs over the past 10 years. It would move forward a couple steps and then move back a few steps mostly in brightness. I think Sony wanted they could’ve done this 10 years ago. @@michael-4k4000 judging by what I've seen the local dimming is still better with this TV compared to X95L. And it is much, much brighter. I prefer LED HDR for watching movies and TV anyways. I have an LG OLED dedicated to gaming, and don't care to watch TV and movies on that. HDR content is far superior on LED.
My only beef with Sony this year is they should’ve made the Sony Bravia 8 OLED a QD OLED and just made it a step down from the A95L which would be more of a competitor to the S90D
I went to BB they had a Bravia 9 and A95L near each other. The Bravia 9 is Very impressive. I Love QD-OLED, it does have more color volume. But now I have to pick 85" Bravia 9 or 77" A95L. After seeing both in person, I get why many many people will go B9 over 95L. It was crazy bright. next level.
Great review Brian, but was hoping you'd do some daytime viewing/filming. Majority of people watch their TVs during daytime with natural light, blinds open or at night with lights on and not in a darkened room or basement. That type of review would be beneficial for us potential buyers.
Hello Brian. Thank you for taking the time to Review these Sony TV's as I am having to be patient before purchasing my replacement TV. I am having to wait up to 8 months to make this decision. The Bravia 9 is my first choice.
I have an old LG B7 OLED that has a ton of burn in so it’s time to change. I’m torn between this and the LG G4. But this review has me sold on this! I miss my old Sony WEGA TVs.
Last year, the 85-inch and 75-inch versions of the X95L model had different display panels, with the 85-inch version having a better panel. Therefore, if you bought the 65-inch or 75-inch X95L, you got a lower-quality panel compared to the 85-inch. How are things this year with the Bravia 9 (XR90)? Does the display quality vary depending on the display size? Are there any differences in sound or other features based on the display size?
This was true of past models. However, it seems all sizes are equal in terms of picture quality. The size is simply more immersive and impactful. Hope this helps and thank you for watching
Beautiful. When you went into the dark room, I wished you had shown just a bit more viewing angle so we could see it. I wouldn't need the awesome angle like my A80J OLED has but I tried an X90L at one time and the angle was terrible after you went no more than 10-15 degrees on either side. Since I view from the kitchen which is open concept into the great room, I need at least a decent 45 degree or a bit less angle. I know LED aren't known for that but wondering if this Bravia 9 improved on it at all. Thanks for the great work Brian.
Should be better than the X90L. As far as I know the X90L doesn't have the wide-viewing angle which helps increase that degree. So you could likely go 30degrees before it would start to be worse. It is always best head-on, but it's a matter of acceptable with angles. I think it does rather well.
Great vid Brian. Thanks to you, Robert and Wendy. This is my choice for my tropical location. Your presentation and overnight sacrifices are appreciated.
A perfect video. You hit all the marks. I have never given mini a 2nd thought. I’m a total OLED snob. But this does hit! It definitely brings heat. That water glass splashing with a black background was shocking. That looked pure black to me. I’d love to see that image beside an OLED. I just hope the audio is as good as always.
I’m going for an oled because I think it’s the closest to a crt tv. I’m interested in tv’s that give me the best of both worlds. Both new content and old content alike.
The video is excellent! You say in the video that you think the Bravia 9 has just as good local dimming as the x95L. Does the Bravia 9 have better local dimming or are they really identical? Thank you
I have a fairly bright room that I have the 75 inch in. It does well in a bright room, but like Brian said you will get some reflections from the light. If you have the ability to darken your viewing room then will make this all moot. I will say that the reflections on the screen are minimized incredibly by the Sony Anti-screen reflection tech (I’m forgetting the name). Overall, it’s not a dealbreaker by any stretch and a minor annoyance at most
To me it’s interesting. Cause VA panel does terrible job with reflections spreading them across the screen. So even though it can be brighter in handful of screens reflections will fare worse than comparable oled. In other words you need to control light. The only case where extra brightness applies is when watching SDR content and cable tv/sports. For that case higher brightness would work.
I like to know the contrast ratio of this and compare it against incredibly high contrast of Hisense U8N, doubt if B9 has similar figure as U8N has OLED like black😮
Excellent the TV looks so good. Was especially impressive in the blacked out dark room with those very high contrast images. No blooming but very bright. The reality it that the B9 would have higher contrast ratio than an OLED in those images. Because low black level and higher brightness, aka "Ratio". It's only in some scenes with micro-contrast and in dark room there would be really any difference and even then not in a lot of content. Almost down to a preference level. I always prefer to see detail and zero crushing and prefer brighter HDR. And SDR. I just find it amazing how far MiniLED and LCD has come. It was barely 2-3 years ago an LCD FALD or MiniLED would show blooming and less contrast and less bright.
Hi brian. I happened to check out the bravia 9 , A 95l and g4 recently. I checked jennifer gala videos as well as netflix and Disney 4k and hdr videos extensively. My assessment was that g 4 did not have the details of the bravia 9. Vs the A 95l it was very close. In dark scenes the led had better shadow detail. In dark high contrast scenes the A95l was slightly better. But the bravia 9 was extremely close. And in bright scenes the bravia 9 was comfortably better than the A 95 L. And I personally did not see much difference in micro contrast either. Your thoughts please?
i am afraid you're right and the reason this Bravia 9 is so good is because it is also replacing the Z9K. i think what happened in the industry is 8K sales were slow and Sony and Samsung relented and decided to put 8K spec backlight systems into 4K TVs which is what the customers wanted in the first place. before that 4K TVs were getting crippled backlight drives with lower brightness and lower zone count compared to 8K variants. personally i am fan of 8K and hope it will come back next year better than ever, but congratulations to 4K fans who are getting a treat this year already.
The blooming is present and much worse than one would have guessed. Unfortunately, you will not hear any of these reviewers cover this aspect honestly.
@@tac6044 you really should keep quiet about things you know nothing about, especially if you don’t own this television. I do and I’ve seen zero blooming zero.
T.y. for this informative video. I completely agree with you about the LED vs OLED competition where one tech tries to beat the other tech's strong points i.e. brightness vs blacks. Each tech will never be able to out do the other's strong points. When purchasing a new TV the consumer "should" decide on what tech better fits their viewing conditions. Btw the 4K 85"B9 looked great on my 8K 85" Z9K ! 😉😁
I was sold on the BRAVIA X95L 85", it's now in deals and will likely drop even more in months to come if still available, so is the BRAVIA 9 worth c. £2K/$2.5K more at the moment?
Hi Brian, another great review, and that Sony 85” tv looks great, but the problem I have now, do I go for the Brivia9 or get the Sony 98” Sony from last year, both are approximately 5k each, what’s your thoughts on this? Thanks again for your fantastic review
What did you end up getting or keeping? I currently have both of those exact TV's right now and will be keeping only one. I wanted to love the 98" X90L but the 85" B9 makes you feel like you're IN the film rather than looking at a screen.
@@BRIANSTECHTHERAPY Wow if you.feel that way about this TV it must be that good. Miniled has come a long way in recent years. Thanks for the FYI it's much appreciated.
Great content! May I ask why Mini LED's are best at their largest sizes? Just because of the bigger number of dimming zones? And if so, is the 75inch enough to get the best out of a Mini LED TV?
Great video. I need to stick with Mini LEDs because of my use case scenario. This Bravia 9 is just too expensive though. Think im gonna go with the QN95D as Samsung have improved their processing and the contrast and blacks of the QN95D have been getting great reviews. Then in a few years i'll spend QN95D type money again and get something better than the Bravia 9. But if i bought a Bravia 9 id be keeping it for a while because of the price.
Question for Robert, saw the A90J 83” on your website for $4k. Is it still available and is it worth buying and A90J in 2024? it’s one of the best looking TVs I’ve ever seen design wise
Hi brian, If you only watched movies and no gaming at all, what would you chose? The bravia 9 85 or g 4 83? And one more thing. You compared the A 95l vs the x 95l and they were pretty close according to you. Now since the bravia 9 is significantly better than the x 95l , that would mean it shoul fare better against the a 95l?
Excellent video Brian some very impressive backlight control,I have two Oleds, Sony a80j And 48a9 , recently bought 55x90L for gaming so impressed at how good the black levels are on this full array, and it's all down to Sony backlight control and XR processor, when my A80j needs replacing it's definitely Gona be a bravia 7 I'm done with Oled prefer the brighter highlights than Oleds contrast
No, the G4 has a groove inside, which also has a collapsing wall mount . The Bravia 9 is also a Mini-Led with more thickness. It can easily be wall mounted just not as flush as the G4.
Thanks for the 85" video. Hard to find a Bravia 9 in the area (NC) and your review helps seal the deal for me. Trying to decide whether to buy local or through Sony's site. Any thoughts on that decision? thx

Brian, Can you tell the difference in panel quality between the 85" and 65", since the former is supposed to use the premium AUO panel? I saw that comment on your video and got curious. I can't imagine it's a big difference. Thank you!!
It’s 2 biggest weakness is the price and only two hdmi 2.1 ports and one of those ports is used for arc. Another thing, haven’t seen a 55 inch available. Other than that I think it’s just as good as oled, btw I do own an Lg oled and recently viewed the Lg G4. Looking at this tv or a G4 to purchase soon.
It looks like it does a great job of preventing blooming that washes out areas of the screen in these demos, but I'm curious how well it handles white subtitles? Is it just a tiny bit of haloing around the subtitles? It seemed to handle that LG logo in the corner well, but I'm wondering how that looked in person as opposed to a video. Also, the gaming examples didn't include anything with HUDs against dark backgrounds, since you mention the blooming control is worse in game mode, did you try any titles that might have examples of this? When I played Witcher III on a Sony LED, the HUD frequently introduced severe blooming when exploring caves, etc in HDR mode
Brian you have the 83 a80l , how does it compare to the B9 85 , between the two which would you take if picture clarity was your priority, the only issue I have with a80k is the dark scenes are not great, please let me know your choice and the reason between A80L and B9 . Thanks
Great question! The A80L is excellent, especially at 83". However, if you weren't a fan of the A80K, then it might not be for you. The A80L does have the cognitive processor, so it is an improvement over the A80K. I'd personally go with the Bravia 9 at 85". Excellent local dimming and it's HDR impact is much better

B9 my friend. I’ve had the 75 inch for four days and I’ve also been casually gaming on my PS5 with it. It’s a beast and do it all. The G4 is probably a better TV overall, but that price differential is what forced me to cancel my 83 inch G4 and go with the B9 instead.
Awesome video, Brian! Appreciate all the content you post on UA-cam, so very helpful! Considering mini LED, do you believe it is worth upgrading to the Bravia 9 from an x95L point of view? The x95L is currently priced €3900 and the Bravia 9 is currently €5000, both in 85 inch sizes. Is it worth to pay more for the Bravia 9?
I'm so glad you enjoyed . The X95L is excellent and very good all around however it lacks that wow factor and HDR impact. The Bravia 9 is worth the price difference. Keep in mind the X95L has had several price drops and the 85 Bravia 9 just came out.
Same here. I just had the 77A95L for 60 days before returning it because I thought I might want a size upgrade and this got announced during that time period. I have a 77 A80J. The A95L looks absolutely amazing. My options are either buy the A95L again, try the B9 or wait until next year when hopefully they will have an 83 inch option for the A95L successor. I’m leaning towards trying the B9. I’m just hesitant because I’m used to that OLED contrast. I love it…especially for gaming.
We have the 65 " it definitely is a good tv but not worth the ticket price compared to my Samsung i paid half the price for ! But damn the sound in this tv is definitely something very special.

I have had a Panasonic oled for about 7 years. Early on it goes to the some burn in. For this reason I am thinking of getting a Bravia 9 75". It was down to 65" A95L or 75" Bravia 9 (price was about the same). Oppo 4k player I have does 1600 nits max so I 4k nits tv may not take full advantage. Also I'm not sure how bright is a "bright room". It'll be in a north facing room. Some day watching a bit of night. It looks like the B9 will be about as good as my oled but no burn in. And way better than my old Sony side lit led that bloomed everywhere. Not to mention a 10" bigger screen for less. At least that's my thoughts at the moment. Appreciate some feedback. Thanks.
There are two closely spaced rows of what appear to be reflections of bright lights (3 each?) appearing in the middle of the screen, right of center. Were these artifacts generated by your camera, or by lights inside the store, or from outside? Are these an example of how the Bravia 9 handles reflections?
@@gosman949 Naa. The TCL has motion that equals that of the LG G4. Also the TCL has way better input latency for gaming Sony is still on the 17ms at @60hz which is disappointing.
Sony has two OLEDs in there Professional Monitor series that Hollywood colorists and the like use to master in post-production. The rest are LCD or miniLED. The flagship is miniLED. This should be the most telling of all the points that can be made about the argument between OLED and miniLED. They're beautiful. They're accurate. They will give you an incredible experience. No doubt. But what's best in the eyes of the maker? It's currently miniLED. This is how I choose a display. In this case, Sony's goal for the B9 was to make a consumer tv out of their flagship professional monitor. They chose miniLED and not OLED to accomplish that. It's the same argument you can make for audio in home theater. Revel Salon2's are basically regarded as the pinnacle of home audio until you have the cash for Wilson Audio (or a bunch of other different brands at that price point). They're beautiful. Powerful. Sound incredible. But what do the pros use? JBL M2 (and a few other JBL models), Genelec, HEDD, Adam Audio, Focal Trio series, etc... So, if I had to choose between a pair of speakers from any high end manufacturer or one of the previously mentioned "pro" manufacturers, what would I choose? Well, the choice as to which specific speaker I'd choose is based on the size of my room and the listening distance, but I'd choose a system comprised from one of the previously mentioned manufacturers. Why? This is simply because I want my content presented exactly as the director intended. What speakers were responsible for mastering that content? Pro speakers. All of that said, we do have ways to calibrate both tvs and speakers to mimic the equipment that Pro's use. In TV world, that's done simply by properly calibrating the tv and ensuring that zero detail is lost post-calibration. In audio world, we have DSP as a tool to use that if the speakers you have can handle the SPL (and careful patience), you can basically clone the frequency response of your favorite pro loudspeaker. It's not a perfect solution because of a myriad of reasons but it's a huge step forward for those without the budget (me).
you making a link because this year Sony didn’t refresh oled that means mini led is better. Which is a wrong assumption. It didn’t even receive a Master series status. It’s this year’s flagship that’s all. Professional LCD monitors are dual LCDs that this tv can’t match. None can. Now oled can’t either yet. But it’s a matter of time. What Apple did with dual stacking panels - expensive as it might be it is possible to create oled panel reaching 3/4k nits based on current tech. And we know there are improvements in tech like rumored to come as soon as next year - phosphorus, which will boost brightness significantly.
Thanks Brian for lovely video . 😊Have seen Sony release its sets very late in most parts like for example mine it comes in October. I would love to buy it but will have to wait for 5 months . Qn900d is available. That's what I meant.
Thanks for another great review. Curious would you chose a 85"Sony X93 at $3500 over a 75" Bravia 9 for $3999? Basically both are great tvs with some pluses and minuses. Would you sacrifice size for a better picture even though it appears the 93 has better reflection and more 2.1 HDMI for a game changing picture? Is it that much of a change? The 85" Bravia 9 is just out of price range. Thanks for any input.
Noob question here. Is there a huge difference of picture quality between the B3 the B7 and the B9 or is the price difference mostly a question of having more options (more controls, better sounds, more connection settings, etc) with very little differences on what you actualy see on screen? Hope my question is clear as english is not my first language. EDIT: I'm asking because I want to buy a large TV 85 or more to mostly watch movie in a dedicated room. So I don't care if the TV is not "super duper bright" as long as the picture quality (the details, the contrast, the colors) is good on a large screen.
Excellent question! There are massive differences between the three models, and in nearly every aspect from build quality to picture quality. The B3 is budget minded the 7 is the mid and the 9 is the Flagship. The differences are local dimming ( black level) and peak brightness. All three are also led but different technologies. Hope this helps

Thank you so very much, Shawn! Very kind and generous of you, my friend! Sony has done this since last year. They let CES go by and let the other manufacturers battle it out for attention while they build the tension and anticipation for what is on the way. By the time they release the competition, it seems old in comparison. However it does backfire as well. People who need to buy can't wait.
Great video, Brian!!! Definitely getting a Bravia 9 this year!!! This video is a HUGE help!
It's always great to see you, my friend
14:00 is that 'LG QNED 8K MiniLED' and OSD (on-screen display logo)?
I’ve had the 75 inch for four days now. The angles are fine.
The pleasure is mine, my friend ! Thank you for being here
A perfect video.
For sure wouldn’t miss my 2017 OLED.
The video is excellent! You say in the video that you think the Bravia 9 has just as good local dimming as the x95L. Does the Bravia 9 have better local dimming or are they really identical? Thank you
I'd say it's actually better considering it's peak brightness. I'm glad you enjoyed and thank you for watching
It should be compared against X95L to see improvements in backlighting technology. If it’s a tiny improvement, then it’s not worth its enormous price😮
@@amitavraja3385 Exactly, that interests me too, I'm very excited. Unfortunately he didn't say anything about it.
would you recommend this for a bright room? brightness says yes, but viewing angles and reflection say no?
How's the blooming on this compared to the X95L? Does the X95L have more of a glossy screen?
The blooming is present and much worse than one would have guessed. Unfortunately, you will not hear any of these reviewers cover this aspect honestly.
@@tac6044Troll. 🤣

Is there a big difference in the image between 75 and 85?

Brian great video and thanks for pointing out that while many people complain that the B9 is too expensive, it’s actually much cheaper than the G4!
How does the B9 compare to Samsung 8k 900D? Apart from price which tv has the best picture quality. Is it close or is there a clear winner?
Hey Brian, thank you for the review. If you had to choose and money wasn’t the issue, would you buy this tv over the Sony Z9K ? Thanks in advance
My OLED is making this bravia 9 video look next level 😂😂
but it took an OLED to see it!
T.y. for this informative video. 😉😁
Im sold! Will we see the bravia 9 85 inch at mwave??
As i said before, moving on from my a90j
I was sold on the BRAVIA X95L 85", it's now in deals and will likely drop even more in months to come if still available, so is the BRAVIA 9 worth c. £2K/$2.5K more at the moment?
Do you know if there is a difference between the Bravia 9 75" and 85" but the size ? Like a better panel or added specs in the bigger 85" version ?
The 85” is supposed to use a better quality panel as well as have more dimming zones.
I've not got one yet but I'm waiting on the Sony Bravia 9 coming in
Hey B can this TV make you wanna switch from infinite contrast and deep black levels that OLED gives you?
Actually, yes! It's that good brother
It’s usually because of the larger number of dimming zones as well as often having a better quality panel at larger sizes.
Hello, how are you? Can I ask a question? I want to buy a TV. What do you recommend? LG G4 or Sony 9. Thank you.
Question for Robert, saw the A90J 83” on your website for $4k. Is it still available and is it worth buying and A90J in 2024? it’s one of the best looking TVs I’ve ever seen design wise
I’m jealous Brian you got the monsters
I'm scoring this 65 inch TV tomorrow from Best buy open box. No original box included. For 1800!!! Ohhh yeahhhhh.
Can we flush mount ( close to the wall) Bravia 9 like G4 LG?
No, the G4 has a groove inside, which also has a collapsing wall mount . The Bravia 9 is also a Mini-Led with more thickness. It can easily be wall mounted just not as flush as the G4.
Thanks for the 85" video. Hard to find a Bravia 9 in the area (NC) and your review helps seal the deal for me. Trying to decide whether to buy local or through Sony's site. Any thoughts on that decision? thx

Brian,
Can you tell the difference in panel quality between the 85" and 65", since the former is supposed to use the premium AUO panel?
I saw that comment on your video and got curious. I can't imagine it's a big difference.
Thank you!!
It’s 2 biggest weakness is the price and only two hdmi 2.1 ports and one of those ports is used for arc. Another thing, haven’t seen a 55 inch available. Other than that I think it’s just as good as oled, btw I do own an Lg oled and recently viewed the Lg G4. Looking at this tv or a G4 to purchase soon.

Love it!
LG logo was blooming at one point and Brian mentioned that he can see blooming there so unfortunately most likely subtitles will bloom as well.
@@whitecrowuk575 Right, I'm just wondering about the extent of the blooming with subtitles, especially with anything that's letterboxed

I am in the exact same Canadian boat haha,. I am going with the Bravia 9 I am pretty sure.

November decision… Sony A80L (83 inch) or Sony Bravia 9 (85). Still torn
What would you go for Brian, 77" a95l or the B9 85"???
I would go 85" if it fits your budget and space. no question
I'm facing the exact same dilemma

Hey Brian, which one do you think has better picture quality and viewing angles between the Bravia 9 and the Hisense U8N? You've spent time with both TVs, so I trust your perspective.
You really can’t compare a Hisense to Sony’s flagship tv. Thats like comparing a 60’s vw to a modern Ferrari
@@brokenwrench404 why not, both are mini led and is the Sony going to be $1,200 to $1,500 better with its picture quality? Not to mention a 10" bigger screen for less.
At least that's my thoughts at the moment. Appreciate some feedback. Thanks.
There are two closely spaced rows of what appear to be reflections of bright lights (3 each?) appearing in the middle of the screen, right of center. Were these artifacts generated by your camera, or by lights inside the store, or from outside? Are these an example of how the Bravia 9 handles reflections?

Good luck buying a new one each year as Sony will change its master tv lol
@@whitecrowuk575 then….. I’ll…. Just… but the new hotness when I decide to buy a new tv?? I don’t understand the quip you’re trying to make.
you making a link because this year Sony didn’t refresh oled that means mini led is better.

So whats main diffrence between Sony 7 and 9?
