      Breaking the internet on a TV review is hilarious. Folks:
      1. There is no one perfect TV for all scenarios
      2. OLED does have some disadvantages in non light controlled rooms.
      3. The average person watching TV in a mixed use setting would like enjoy the B9 benifits more than OLED especially when factoring in size/cost.
      4. If your biggest tech issue is deciding between a A95L and a B9 you are winning at life.

      Hi Andrew,
      Thanks for giving your detailed, honest review of the Bravia 9 and dealing with the frustrating comments. Your clear enthusiasm for this TV and its merits has shown me that I'd be very happy with this model. LOL! I loved the review and loved you giving your opinion. I am someone who also owns multiple OLEDs and a couple mini led TVs. I did a blind TV test and picked the Bravia 9 at a show. Some people are so blindly loyal now a days that its strange. Most of these angry people haven't even seen one setup. At Best Buy for example, its on store mode which won't do it justice. We are so focused on what something is on paper(including speakers) instead of seeing or hearing something ourselves. This Bravia 9 is incredible. To my eyes, blacks are blacks but the brightness is very different to my eyes. Especially highlights. I don't see or notice blooming and that is easy for me to spot. Anyways great review and thanks for just being you and telling your opinion. There are times I may disagree with your opinions but I still enjoy hearing them. Thanks guys

    I have to weigh in here, as someone who works with all TVs on a daily basis AND currently owns a 65A95L for most people's viewing habits the Bravia 9 is the better TV, brighter SDR, Brighter Cinema and Professional modes with minimal black crushing on the whole. The only reason I have the A95L is because in the UK the 65 Bravia 9 hasn't been released yet and I cannot fit a 75". All these TVs are amazing in their own right. Some people prefer OLED, some people prefer Mini LED, but what Sony has done with the B9 is truly magical.

      I tend to agree it’s controversial. I understand this is a business but if a reviewer lacks the courage to acknowledge that OLED is a superior technology it unfortunately will end up making viewers question everything about the reviewer. Sony didn’t go with led because it’s better. They went with it because it’s cheaper and higher margin. They can milk their good name for a few years and sell these much higher margin tvs based on reputation alone.

    Thank you for including my poorly phrased question & answering it so well as usual… much appreciated! I have windows🪟 on either side 🪟of our ‘not so GREAT ROOM,’ so even though my wife (Christie with a C) and I close all the blinds when enjoying movie time, the image from our 📽️ is still completely blown out & lacking in contrast… hence the desire to upgrade to a not too reflective 🗯️TV. Also apologies for my screen name ‘snow in Okinawa’🇯🇵 which seems to trip everyone up due to lower cases + lack of spaces; it stems from a musical artist from 🍣Okinawa named ‘Ryukyu Underground.’🌊 They do a sort of electronica infused with a traditional Okinawan instrument named the Sanshin🪕 I saw them play live when I was living there. Their track ‘snow in Okinawa,’ is a tongue-in-cheek expression since the weather there never gets below 15°C 🏝️(59°F). Have a great weekend :) Nickolas🇦🇺

    I went from a 65 Sony A80J to 85 inch X90L and yes it’s “worse” but people must be way more sensitive than me. The picture quality at 85 is really fantastic and I have zero complaints. Is there sometimes blooming? Yes. Is it distracting and destroys what I’m watching? No. I took the time to dial in the custom settings and the effort pays off. If I side by side to oled I can clearly see a difference but it’s not the end of the world. When 80+ inch oled comes down in price I’m all in but for now I’ll enjoy saving $. Im personally more interested in enjoying what I’m watching over dissecting micro contrast and nuance of every single frame.

    I have calibrated several A95L’s and Bravia 9’s. In fact I had both the Bravia 9 and A95 L literally side by side, while I was calibrating them.
    Looking back at my records yes, confirmed the Bravia 9’s DE after calibration is lower at an average of 0.80 VS the A95L at 1.3.
    However we all know there is very little perceptible difference in a DE under three. White Balance is definitely important but between these two displays the overwhelming difference is in the Color Volume and Gamut. When you see these displays side by side the A95L is just beautiful, colors pop and the Bravia 9 looks a bit flat by comparison.
    The contrast of the displays is also noticeably different. The Micro Contrast of the A95L is as of yet peerless unless comparing directly to another OLED.
    Now, do I love the Bravia 9? YES, Hell yes! Loved Andrew’s point. Guys, there is NO BEST TV. There is only the best TV for your environment and use case.
    Why did I have the A95 and B9 side by side?? Because I sold them to a client for different locations within their home.
    You guessed it, The A95L was their theater display and the Bravia 9 was their everyday Living Room Driver. Ambient room light during the day sealed the best option as the B9.
    The Bravia 9 is literally the best QLED to have ever existed, it is gorgeous. Considering what it was designed to do and what SONY‘s goals were. It is an epic achievement. Is it as good as the A 95L in some ways? NO. However, I have seen content on the Bravia 9 and the A 95L mastered at 4000 NITS. Guys, content mastered at this level is coming, very soon and when comparing the B9 and the A95L, in this instance, the Bravia 9 was noticeably more lifelike.
    There are so many variables to consider, it is literally the case that both televisions shine and will outdo each other given a certain set of circumstances and parameters. Both TVs are exceptional. Both are made by SONY. Well done.
    Andrew, keep your chin up. Love your reviews and the nuance you attempt to deliver to the masses. sometimes a pill of truth doesn’t go down easy.

      "When you see these displays side by side the A95L is just beautiful, colors pop and the Bravia 9 looks a bit flat by comparison."
      - False. I've got an 85" Bravia 9 and a 77" A95L side-by-side, both professionally calibrated in a light controlled room. Bravia 9 looks phenomenal and holds its own against the A95L. Its HDR in particular pops more and the A95L looks to be lacking in comparison.

    It’s funny that everyone is comparing this tv to the A95L, when really the actual only competition for this tv because of the 80”+ size is the LG G4 since none of the other top end OLED’s are available in that size. • @gavriushka

    I feel like people that are making those comments at the beginning are the same people that are “very passionate” about their Dragons… I mean, chill out. When done right, even as an OLED fan and constant user myself, I’m happy with Sony making microLED their flagship. First, we haven’t had this quality of LED period so far from any brand. Two, it’s a cheaper technology compared to OLED and considering prices aren’t going down any time soon, it makes sense. Especially considering it already shows how much cheaper it is since they significantly lowered the flagship price compared to last year and QD-OLED panels.
    My only single gripe with Sony, as I said before, is their reluctance to put in 4 2.1 HDMI ports. And they have no excuse for it at all aside for not wanting to offer competition foothold in the console market. They want you to own a PlayStation only. That’s annoying as hell. But also, knowing Sony, nothing will compare to their processing, image processing and backlight control, period. This one is no different. Also, have a friend who just bought it. It looks better in game mode than my G2 OLED. It just does, and those insanely bright spec highlights in HDR is just cherry on top. And I adore my G2. People need to relax and go enjoy their half baked Samsung cookie. Some like it half baked, some like it raw. Doesn’t mean either one is wrong. Unless you say Subway makes good cookies, cause if so, we can’t be friends. 😂

    As someone that has actually lived with an lg c2 for 2 years, I think that there’s a word that’s missing that can really help out: context. Now the c2 is dimmer than the c4 by a bit, but in cinema mode… like it can get really really dark. I can live with it and I love my c2, where I live we don’t have Sony tvs, he’ll lg only sells the c and g series oleds here. But people miss the context of having such great local illumination in the new Sony as well as a lot more brightness in sdr and hdr. Sure, in a dark room the oleds are going to take the crown, but come on, basically no one does that. The context of both the environment and contrast differential within the tvs presentation is key and people really don’t understand or don’t want to hear it.

      @BigT6544 i play a lot of games in hdr and the per pixel control is so important in a lot of scenes. Lots of starfields or tiny highlights like sparks or atmospheric effects that have bright spots that only use a pixel or so. Even the best mini led wouldn't be able to deliver in those scenes. For content you're just viewing mini led still rocks. Not to mention mini led tvs and monitors rely on a backlight algorithm that introduces input lag in games. Oleds are just superior in gaming which is where I spend most of my time in front of a screen.

    I just bought the 85 inch Bravia 9 several days ago. Mounted it up. This replaced my LG CX 77 inch and it blows it away. Way Better colors . More pop in HDR highlights. Brighter full field especially watching sports. Still love the CX as it has great contrast and still has slightly sharper image than the b9 in some scenes. Maybe I can sharpen up the details a little more after a few adjustments on the b9. But colors are way better. And HDR is on another level. Major upgrade.

    Appreciate your in video response from my previous comment. The TCL QM8 is a television I've tried to compare from your previous videos, it doesn't appear to be available in Australia though. The flagship 98" TCL television to my knowledge here is the TCL 98C855. From a specification point of view it doesn't appear to be comparable to the QM8, but it is at a similar price point to the X90L. There's a level of flexibility in seating position for my setup, so I'll weigh that up before discounting the Bravia 9 on size limitations, 9.5ft is THX recommended based on your shared calculator and may well be viable. My other hesitation with TCL is the numerous issues I've had with multiple TCL TV's with regard to integration and consistent functional operation. I've always found Sony TV's to be consistently reliable with their integration with other hardware, which in addition to their overall quality tends to make me somewhat brandest.

    The Bravia 9 was made for one type of market. That market is 4K HD on streaming services. With more movies are on streaming services and with more people watching 4K HD on streaming services Sony wanted a TV that can show these streaming movies at their best. Sony studio also makes movies.
    So the Bravia 9 being a miniled TV panel can really pulls this off watching movies on streaming services. It's why it got the higher number over the oled B 8.

    • @bradshumate783
      @bradshumate783 Місяць тому

    • @scottivlow9962
      @scottivlow9962 Місяць тому

      @bradshumate783 When the Bravia 9 came out then Sony Rep Rob Brennan talked about it on Brian's Tech Therapy channel. It's not oled versus Miniled competition. It is meant for the best use case for streaming movies. You can search for Rob Brennan. He did like 5 interviews. Sony engineers are the ones that assign model names. The Sony Bravia 8 is an LG Display WOled panel. So it compares to the C4.

    I think what threw viewers off about your opinion on the B9 being superior to all OLEDs is the results of the 2024 Value Electronics shootoff, as well as the opinions of other UA-cam content creators such as Stop the FOMO, Brian from Tech Therapy, Tech with KG, QuantumTV, and RTngs, with regards to which technology is superior. While most also acknowledge the beauty and brightness and sound quality of the B9, they are quick to acknowledge OLED will always have better contrast due to pixel-level dimming control in the millions, hence the term “infinite contrast ratio”, vs the best mini leds having a contrast ratio in the hundreds of thousands:1, with dimming zones in the thousands, but not in the millions, such as it would be on a pixel level. That said, I purchased a 2024 TCL QM851g earlier this year based on some reviews I’d seen and I’ve been satisfied with my purchase so far, as far as quality to cost ratio is concerned. They also all grossly overstate the off angle viewing losing contrast. I can stand at almost 180 degrees to my screen and barely notice a difference worth noting. Blues are still blue, etc.

    Changing seating distance isn't the only factor to immersion. It's the size of the images and scene on the TV that get larger also and that doesn't change with seating distance, just your peripheral view is filled more as you get closer. You can't tell me that watching a 48" TV at 3' is better than watching a movie on an 85" TV at 10'. To get that true home theater experience, you need a large TV, just like a theater, a large screen, seated far away. You can hold an ipad right in front of your face, but it isn't the same experience as watching a truly large screen, even from a far distance. All seating distance takes into account, is field of vision, there is more to immersion and feeling than that.

    • @KristiWright
      @KristiWright Місяць тому +1

      There's a lot going on in this comment. Of course, if you sit closer, the size of the images on the screen will look larger than if you are sitting farther away. Even a well-designed commercial theater takes seating distances and viewing angles into consideration.

    • @micker9830
      @micker9830 Місяць тому

      @@KristiWright The size of the object doesn't get larger though, if you sit close, it just may look bigger. It is more true to life size on a bigger TV and your brain knows the size it is, even from a distance. There is a very different feel watching a movie on an 85" TV and a 55" or even 65" TV at any distance. You can't get a big screen feel, from a smaller TV. You can improve the feel, but it's not the same experience. Try sitting closer to a 55" TV and then watch a 77"+ TV from any distance and tell me it's not a more cinematic experience on the larger TV. There is way more to a cinematic feel and immersion, than field of vision.

There are still some improvements coming to big OLEDs, ink jet printing will finally be a thing (TCL seems to ramp up manufacturing?), etc. I wouldn't bet on either side, and while OLEDs get cheaper in manufacturing, producing a really good Mini LED is expensive and complicated.
