Nightdive's remake masterfully brings most of the aspects that haven’t aged as well into the present day, with excellent new graphics and nearly all the modern gameplay conveniences you could want. Tweaking the technical workings of Citadel space station to come out on top and foil SHODAN's machinations is just as compelling as it ever was, making the original System Shock one of gaming's classics for a very good reason.

With how gaming is now, it's amazing that a remake from a smaller studio that took this long to develop came out with this level of quality.

We are living im a time where Dead Space, Resident Evil 4 and System Shock have great remakes in the SAME YEAR!

The game is absolutely fantastic! No hand holding, beautiful and yet somehow triggers those nostalgia receptors in the brain. Also the elevator music is banging!
So glad this game worked out in the end, Took 8 years and 2 production resets but we got there in the end.
It would be nice to see remasters of Thief and its sequel.

The visual style is amazing. As the reviewer said, the whole vibe gives the impression of a 30 year old game. It's like playing something in memory. We are definitely in the remake/remaster era, but with it's ingeniunity this remake feels like something unique.
A lot of games being remade now don't need to be remade (*cough* RE4 *cough*), System Shock is an exception though even though the original is great.
they chose the perfect time to remake this game. the narrative has probably never been more relative

@@strawberryharuspices1480 Giving System Shock 2 this treatment would be great. The OG SS2 is more playable than the first one was, but the update would still be great.
They did a fantastic job with it and exceeded my expectations.

Terri Brosius deserves all the credit for putting her voice for Shodan, she's a legend! She also was the voice of Viktoria in the Thief games.
She voiced Delacroix in SS2 and played keyboards in the band Tribe, some vocals too.
She's also worked on some great projects as not only as a VA, but also as writer and level designer. Really glad she's still working in the industry and reprised her role for this.
This is exactly how you pull of a remake. Faithful to the original with a light fresh breeze of modernization

I'm surprised there was no mention of BioShock in this, especially as you can see where it had its roots, and most people would never have played System Shock 1/2.
Exploration makes a game like this excellent. It’s why Dead Space was a 10/10 and Callisto Protocol fell way short; one was on rails, the other allowed branching paths, exploration, full back tracking, etc.
No one ever knows how to use the grenades in the og, but theyre still pretty powerful tools. Its just a shame that throwing in the og is a cryptic crap shot at best if theres anything but a clear los.
Just got installed, feeling awesome with vivid visuals, and a super concept of 30 years ago when got pentium 3 pc home
Looking Glass was just one of those studios that consistently failed to produce a bad game. UU, SS, Thief are amazing games. Glad to see a remake that honors its legacy.

Almost got overshadowed by a lot of great releases this JUNE, this remake is Awesome!

My first question after learning about this remake naturally is: when is System Shock 2 coming out?
This remake was absolute hell on the devs to be fair. Granted they have 100% learned alot from this. However a system shock 2 enhanced edition is more likely to happen first.
Would be the best move to be honest.
It's amazing what can happen when a remake is done by people who ACTUALLY LIKE the original and understand why it was great, isn't it?
Compared to the slew of cashgrab remakes we've seen (Disney, we're looking at you), this is very encouraging.
Remakes in video games are an entirely different beast than remakes in film and other mediums.
@@iraford5788 Remakes in films are unnecessary in most instances (unless they're for movies in the black-and-white era) or adaptations of foreign language films, but remakes in video games are often more necessary as some of them may end up being unaccessible or straight-up dated in terms of graphics and gameplay.
This game looks perfect for VR. The devs have got to get this ported to Sony's PSVR 2. Looks fantastic!🍻

Yes! Console versions are in development, supposed to be ready end of 2023 or so
The aspects that "didn't age well" aren't in the game anymore. Go back and play even the remaster with improved QOL features and controls and that is apparent. The difficulty in this is just as much of a breath of fresh air that dark souls was and we can use more shooters/immersive sims like it. Nightdive also did what they set out to do and that was remake the game, not do a retelling like so many other games have people confused for what a remake is.
Hopefully now they will be able create a systemshock 2

To me, System Shock resembles Event Horizon Movie. And we need an Event Horizon FPS, RPG video game.
