- Alone in the Dark reviewed by Tristan Ogilvie on PC. Also available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
"Like a Louisiana voodoo priestess, Alone in the Dark is not without its charms, but its basic combat lacks the flexibility and function of Resident Evil 4, its inventive narrative is never as mind-bending as Alan Wake 2, its uninspired creature design can’t compete with Dead Space, and it’s not nearly as scary as any of them. Its central mystery intrigued me enough to lure me through its strand of imaginative settings all the way to its story’s end as Edward, and its puzzle design did feel consistently rewarding, but I was disappointed to discover that there wasn’t a substantial enough difference to make a repeat playthrough as Emily feel particularly worthwhile. While this remake is undoubtedly a step up from the three-decades-old original, Alone in the Dark fails to escape the shadows of the other contemporary survival horror titans that it helped spawn." - Ігри
The original Alone in the Dark was an atmospheric adventure game not survival horror (even though it inspired the genre.) To me it seems this game captures the idea of original pretty well: the southern gothic atmosphere, mystery and puzzles. To give it a low score because it isn’t like Resident Evil is kind of dumb.
The original 3 games had some of the best box art around too.
Yeah the hangups of the reviewer seemed to miss the point of the game lol.
And hilarious that he things the other games named are actually scary. They're great, but scary? Nah.
He gave plenty of reasons why he gave it a 6, and it's pretty in line with what other reviews are giving it. Not sure what your hang up is
Gamespot gave it a 4/10.
Game isnt even out yet and ur already complaining LOLLLL you need to check urself dude
Almost ignored it but gave it a chance. Just came away from an 8 hour streamed play. Absolutely soaked in cosmic horror noir vibes. Love the tone, writing and pacing. Unique horror game. Deserves to find its nieche audience.
That nobody watched.

Not being scary is quite the bummer. Specially when Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare was one of the scariest games i've ever played in my entire life. The setting, sound design and mood of that game is out of this world.
They should so remake the new nightmare. It's still my second favorite horror game.
It's rated T what did you expect?
I'm still gonna play it. 🤷♀️ Looks fun and interesting.
Which is great and how it should be. Reviews are just someone’s opinion, if you wanna play the game then play it. Some people in the comments act like reviewers have slaughtered their family if they don’t give something a 10/10

Thank you kind sir
im so glad that the comments here aren't letting IGN dictate their decision to play this game. It looks really well done. And from the footage I've seen, looks like a great horror game to experience.
I'm still interested in this just not at full price. I'll check it out on a deep sale
There’s still a lot of brain dead IGN fan takes in the comments. They probably instant buy every cod too 😂

@@jasperdebel8177 so?
@jasperdebel8177 there is still a performance being done.
Is this linear or can u backtrack like in the recent resident evil games?
You travel to many places; ruins, swamps, snow mountains, boats, etc... But you come back to the mansion frequently, there is backtracking
@@josuedr4528open areas do not give the real horror for the player. This ia why SH series risdiricted by fog both atmosphere and tecnical issues
@@josuedr4528 can u travel from the manor to these locations back and forth once you've been there before?
@@burakcoskun1865 not exactly, you always return to the mansion once you explore those areas
But you don't get to travel back to them (the areas), it's a bit linear
it's similar to RE where you will be backtracking across the main house but certain sections are one and done. and once you get to the final chapter you can't explore anything, which is kind of dumb because what if you forgot to get the shotgun or wanted to explore more. when games do this it's always nice to give some kind of warning to the player, even if it seems a little out of place or has some weird explanation. we all know why it's there and what it means
🤔🤔🤔i wonder if clock tower would make a return one day with updated graphics

This entire review was "6/10 because it's not a AAA game like Resident Evil so it's mid"
6/10
It’s confirmed to be better than Alone in the Dark: Illumination
Its in the high 7 for me, not as bad as this review made it sound.
That's a pretty low bar to settle with, ngl.
Anything is better than that game.
I'd score the most unsatisfying dump of my life higher than that game.
lol and the 2008 version
Imagine comparing Alone In The Dark to 3 award winning games when this hasn't even come out yet. You ever thought about going into expecting a unique experience that shouldn't be compared to other games that have several times more the budget
Why do people say what score they gave them? The whole point of the review is to figure out why it got that score lol
it’s baffling to me too. wish they’d take the scores away so people would actually listen to what the dude is saying.
Because people don’t want to listen to the specifics, they just want the number cause it’s quick and to the point. We really need to go away from the numbering system for reviews but unfortunately that will never happen
Because IGN has the cringiest nattering on. Head over to Gameranx for better journalism 😅😂😅
What are you talking about? 90% of the videos hide the score forcing you to listen to it all, and believe me that can be worked around. Ideally.
It's part of a running joke that they give everything a 7.
Wait for that 9.99
i'd say 5 max

no 10 $ its probably worth, not more tho...
Just started first run now with Edward, enjoying it so far 👍
At 4:53 that enemy design and AI would break any immersion
A 6! Well IGN gave alien isolation a 5.9, so this must be amazing!
9:29
wasnt it like opposite in the first res.evil w playing the girl were like easy mode and the guy like normal mode...?🤔🤔
They were expecting the gunplay of RE4 in a survival horror?
This reviewer took upward infliction to another level!!
taking out punching and kicking and generalizing melee weapons takes out an important part at the beginning of the game. In the original game as the dude the melee is risky as you take a lot of damage and you only have a few shots with the weapons, so you have to be very careful about when you used ammo or used melee, it game the game a cool feeling. Original game had too many puzzles though, didn't like the end so much
Game is scary and atmospheric af. Loved it to bits. People hating this game shouldn't call themselves "survival horror fans" because this is in the same energy of the old games they can't stop whining about saying "they don't do survival horror games like the old ones anymore". IGN doing some embarrassing reviews as usual 🙄
Still gonna try it even if you give it zero
you are so badass :)))
Bro, you’re amazing🥹

Great visuals , best lightning, I've seen since dead space remake, tense combat, great sounding guns, cool story, 8 to 10 hours not too long , cool different environments., great sound design.

😂👍
I've watched several negative IGN reviews & there have been times when the IGN Reviewer was right besides an ok 6 isn't a negative.
Waiting for a sale but still interested.
Still looks like a fun game. Never played the original so for me it's probably not a problem.
So playing on PC with weapon/ammo cheats basically solves the only negative aspects of this game?
no
No, just play it on easy instead. Easy mode just cuts down on the amount of monsters and their hitpoints. The issues with combat is that it is incredibly sluggish and you don't really feel in control. Combined with the basic enemy AI and issues with getting stun-locked, it's just not very fun.
The rest of the game is _absolutely_ worth playing though, so just try to look past the combat in general.
Get it when on sale or ps plus eventually so.
@6:10 What did the 5 fingers say to the face 😆
Huh.
Reviewing the game by forcing to liken it Resident Evil, Dead Space, and Alan Wake feels like this was written in bad faith. Shouldn't the review be based on what the game is, not what other games are and try to project them onto the game? Like there's plenty of fun and great experiences to be had with a game that's a 7-8.
...probably because that's what they literally took from...just like the original resident evil took from the original alone in the dark, and alone in the dark 4 took from re1 and 2.
7:14 The DISRESPECT lol
The old alone in the dark is available on nintendo switch online
only the gbc one right? the original trilogy and new nightmare proper would be neat…
they need to bring back the pros and cons cause they cant keep giving everything a 7 despite this being a 6
they say the stuff in the review itself though
Maybe it's just me, but this looks awesome!
the combat looks very bad
Where's the zombie chicken? It's one of the most iconic monsters from the original
Anyone play Alone in the dark for the 3DO game system?
Yup. Still have my FZ-10
How can this be a 6??? Omg, totally unfair
A jaded sense of what makes a great game
You think 6 is "unfair"? Lol this game sounds more like a 1/10. X360 looking turds have no place in 2024. Shoudda released on that console
Gamespot gave it a 4 💀
Imagine if IGN makes video reviews JUST with the score:
"This is the final review of ALONE IN THE DARL the 2024 version....It's a SIX. Hope you enjoyed the video, like and suscribe for more"
