It’s been a great experience so far for me. While I was playing it, it brought me back to the days of playing Quake 2 on 64 before I played it on PC when I was just a kid. The atmosphere and its melancholic tones, brief sounds of what sounds like music but it’s the space station. The tight claustrophobic corridors turning in odd fashion, and the old look of what the future thought it would look like (80s-90s) esthetic walls and technology. The creatures groans and lines they’d speak to themselves. Heck, even the Mantis cyborgs felt like old Quake to me. Absolutely amazing.
Never played the original and just picked up the remake on GoG. Having played originals and "remakes" of games from years gone, I'm very impressed with the updates they've done. Worth a play imo! Great vid showcasing everything they've done, and I particularly enjoyed hearing the difference in soundtrack. EZ sub!
I’m really excited for this to come out on PS5 later this year. I played the original when I was very young and I know for a fact I didn’t appreciate the way I would as an adult. I barely remember anything about the story since it’s been so long, and the remake looks really fun. Thanks for the video!
I think i will buy this game! I knew the original Game before, but never played it. But after i played Prey (which was influenced by System Shock) last week i saw that an remake of system Shock is coming. ❤
Damn, I wish Zero Tolerance have remake someday like this. System Shock is greatest classic with incredible style, desigh, music and atmosphere. And Yeah, Shodan is greatest antogonist ever.
Never played the og coz wasn’t alive but always heard of its greatness. This is what all remakes should be like, clunky mechanics removed, faithfully spicy with a bit of class sprinkled on top!
9:50 This is incorrect, even for the original version. You can put items in inventory while fullscreen, you just have to click them on the very bottom where the gray and blue bars are.
I love these trapped on a space station style games. _Prey_ and _Alien Isolation_ were great and I hope we get sequels as well as a System Shock 2 remake!
It's a great remake. Couple of minor issues with it - the pipe attacks need more audio feedback for hits (it's hard to tell if you hit at all against mutants), and using the aim zoom breaks the FOV setting if it's anything other than default. But otherwise, its quality takes a big steaming dump on the so-called "AAA" releases of the past year.
Some random information to people never playing the original or being alive back then ;) ... Nick's "Classic System Shock" on the left is a highres/upscaled version with smooth edges/vectors without showing any pixels. The original didn't look that great. The highest resolution was SVGA aka 800x600 that was only possible on a P90 and some good graphics card like a Matrox Millennium. Looking Glass / Origin System games were always very demanding to hardware ..at least if you wanted to enjoy the game in its full glory. They were Crytek from the 90s.
thanks for this very entertaining and useful comparison review which definitely convinced me to play the remake i love the perfect detail orientation in the vid - everything important covered and explained well the only thing i'd love to see is if using the Berserk melee drug looks as crazy as in the original game where all the colors on the screen just went mad! but that's a very minor detail
I'm yet to play the remake myself, but the OST uploaded on UA-cam suggests the presence of dynamic combat tracks that actually sound like excellent energetic remixes of the originals, did that concept not make it into the final game?
Masters of atmosphere and storytelling, we've missed this in video games. This game goes back to being a true title without ten million hand holding scripted events/items in order to make sure the most casual of gamers may never "feel discouraged". I missed these times in video games, glad at least one title did the remake properly as opposed to a cash grab for simps. This passion project shines as the antithesis of what CBP2077 is/was. ant 2023 terminated. System shock will kick you in the nuts and spit robotic acid in your face, while gladly claiming your corpse for Shodan. ON EDIT::: also the sound design now is more in line with another great game StarCraft (1998), in being more neo-noir and ambient, a welcome change.

EZ sub!
Sound design and level design seemed to be handled very faithfully here i’ll check it out tomorrow when it comes out
I’m really excited for this to come out on PS5 later this year. I played the original when I was very young and I know for a fact I didn’t appreciate the way I would as an adult. I barely remember anything about the story since it’s been so long, and the remake looks really fun. Thanks for the video!
Personally my favorite was System Shock 2 and I hope they'll also make a remake of it.
@@tomaszzalewski4541 they are making a remake
Excellent video and comparison. Thank you!
Never played the original, but after seeing this video, I will definitely check it out.
I think i will buy this game! I knew the original Game before, but never played it. But after i played Prey (which was influenced by System Shock) last week i saw that an remake of system Shock is coming. ❤
17:48 "I will hunt down every scrap of human scum left on the station and use it to lubricate the joints of my robots"
Damn that's dark!
Always incredible to see how much gaming has progressed.
Hope to see a final fantasy xv ff16 direct comparison in the future
You can clearly see this game is being made by people who really love what they do!
Love both versions regardless!
I love this art style so much.
High fidelity low res.
Damn, I wish Zero Tolerance have remake someday like this.
System Shock is greatest classic with incredible style, desigh, music and atmosphere. And Yeah, Shodan is greatest antogonist ever.
The start of that sound design section had me cracking up - my days, lol :)
Never played the og coz wasn’t alive but always heard of its greatness. This is what all remakes should be like, clunky mechanics removed, faithfully spicy with a bit of class sprinkled on top!
The Enhanced Edition -- at least in its current form -- does allow for a fast pickup bind to allow for picking up items without disabling freelook.
I'm so happy that decided to play the original game before the remake. The effect of playing the new game was astonishing.
I miss the original soundtrack
The System Shock its the best game
Finally this game has been in development for ages. It's looking like all that work paid off.
9:50 This is incorrect, even for the original version. You can put items in inventory while fullscreen, you just have to click them on the very bottom where the gray and blue bars are.
actually the enhanced version even let you setup a shortcut key for looting without need to click on your inventory
System Shock is back!
Sound design is greatly improved in every way except the old elevator music was better.
This looks great!!
Seriously hoping now they're done with this, Nightdive will release an Unreal and Quake 2 remaster!
When I heard the original soundtrack I'm happy there is a remake version soon.
I love these trapped on a space station style games. _Prey_ and _Alien Isolation_ were great and I hope we get sequels as well as a System Shock 2 remake!
...Well, they're working on an enhanced edition of 2, like the version of the original game they're showing here, at least.
Hope you played Dead Space 1 and 2.
@@Dis-Connecdead I'll be playing the remake of Dead Space.
Im a purist, the changes seem respectful of the original, while significantly enhancing the environment , quite clever
Just found this game and truly enjoying it!
They were Crytek from the 90s.
thanks for this very entertaining and useful comparison review which definitely convinced me to play the remake
i love the perfect detail orientation in the vid - everything important covered and explained well
the only thing i'd love to see is if using the Berserk melee drug looks as crazy as in the original game where all the colors on the screen just went mad! but that's a very minor detail
One of the most underrated game of ever.Warren Spector's instant classic.
very well made remake!!!!!! Well Done Nightdive
I'm yet to play the remake myself, but the OST uploaded on UA-cam suggests the presence of dynamic combat tracks that actually sound like excellent energetic remixes of the originals, did that concept not make it into the final game?
Played the demo and bought instantly after my first death. I always hear about this game being so good.
Such a cool stylistic remake. I like the stylistic graphics. I like games that don't take themselves too serious.
Both of them are really epic and they both make sense, maintenance is key
