You get excellent shot placement with low recoil and you can mix a few FMJ bullets into the magazines to insure penetration just in case of barriers, heavy clothing or just plain fat. That's how I carry my Ruger 380 with 15 round magazines.
Excellent review of the Ruger Security .380 and I just subscribed. (Haven’t seen your channel before, very fair and impressive). I’ve been looking at this pistol since it first came out, and yes, the .380 snobs tease this caliber being less lethal than a thrown purse, but not one of them will volunteer to take a hit from a .380 and just laugh it off. I think Ruger really knocked this one out of the park in so many ways. For one, it’s great looking. Two, it’s not a .380 pocket rocket like my LCP2 is in .380. This one is large enough to actually have fun with at the range. The sights are great, the safety being only operated from the rear makes it almost impossible to accidentally engage but very easy to disengage. That’s something I’ve heard described backwards and inconvenient, but you nailed it for the positive and intentional design. The safety won’t engage by accident. I’m a 9mm kind of guy and have owned some of the very best over the years, the Beretta 92F being a personal favorite. It’s beautiful, it’s a monster, but I’m not carrying that heavy thing. The LCP2 in 380, is barley accurate enough at 10 feet and the recoil hinders any acceptable follow up shots. The Ruger Security .380 is placed exactly in the middle. Bigger than a subcompact 9 but in .380 and way more accurate. Much less recoil. Easy rack slide. I like it. Haven’t picked one up yet, I’m waiting for Ruger to make this optic-ready. This thing with a dot would be an excellent range pistol. It still is without the optic but I just happen to be hooked on optics lately. Sorry for the long comment, keep up the great reviews and videos. Peace and aloha to you and yours always. 🤙🏼
I really appreciate the feedback and comment! If the optic is the only thing holding you back..here you go: Galloway Precision makes a plate that replaces the rear sight enabling you to mount an optic!! And it’s under thirty bucks. Another user left a comment with that info! Thanks for the subscribe, I’m just a normal guy enjoying the hobby and leaving honest reviews and focusing on what I think normal folks are looking for and sometimes “phat” guys like me lol
@@PhatTactical, Hey man, I really appreciate that! So an optic can fit in the dovetail where the rear sight sits? That’s pretty cool. It’s not ideal, being only supported by the dovetail, losing the rear sight, but it’s something. Love Galloway Precision and have installed a few short stroke triggers and recoil springs from them. Ya know, I’m an old f*cker of 60 years, and more of a traditionalist. I hated red dots when they first came out. If you can’t hit the target with iron sights, you can’t shoot. But, I bought my first red dot a few years ago and installed it, zeroed it, and man I was hooked. I’m deadly accurate with a dot now and humbled. I suppose I’ve been waiting for Ruger to make the Security .380 optics ready for no good reason. Maybe they won’t, just like they didn’t with the Security-9. Maybe the .380 is what it is, and it’s perfect just that way. I’ll buy it anyway. Go back to honing in my iron sight picture like the old days. It’s a beautiful little pistol as it is. Minimal recoil, accurate, fun. Thank you so much for the reply. Have fun and be safe.
@@Woodstock271 no GP makes a plate that sits atop of the slide but you have to remove the rear sight for the plate to go over it. It’s a really great gun, I may have to get one for myself lol my wife is new to the hobby also but she doesn’t like the dots so far
@@PhatTactical , Yeah, I don’t like the plate idea much. It always looks like a desperate attempt at adding a dot where it really doesn’t belong. Like having the slide milled on my classic old 92F and sticking a dot on top of it. That’s just wrong, man. 😂 The more I think about a dot on the Ruger Security 380, the less I really want one. Why screw up the clean lines? It really doesn’t need a dot and it’s not a competition pistol. I think I’ll leave it as is, if I get one. And I don’t blame your wife for not liking the dot thing, they really do suck at first. It takes a lot of practice and getting used to ignoring the iron sights, “co-witnessing” being a farce. The science behind the optic is sound where human vision dynamics is concerned though. Instead of shifting your focus between 3 points, the front sight in focus, the rear sight blurry, and the target blurry, you’re looking at a clear dot on a clear target. Way faster. So I like dots for that reason but it’s almost like cheating in a sense. Takes a lot of the challenge out of aiming more instinctively and naturally. Being a good shot with a dot isn’t as satisfying as being a good shot without one. Practice either way, is always good and one compliments the other. I have a 407k on my Ruger Max-9 and it’s great because that’s a snappy little gun. But the Ruger Security 380 doesn’t need to compensate for a short barrel with too much power. (I think I just talked myself out of a red dot on it) 🤣 Thanks man, happy shooting, have fun and stay safe. 🤙🏼
@@Woodstock271 yes I know what you mean about the dots, I like em because of my poor vision but I’m getting better with irons which too me is faster then chasing the dot. But I guess with enough practice with each, they both can get pretty quick and accurate.
I just bought this pistol and the first day I received it I cleaned it and loaded Sig Sauer ammo in the factory mags and It would not cycle past one shot. Droped the mag and reloaded it again and the same happened again and again. It is back at Ruger now to find out the problem. Let your wife know of the Ruger problem a lot of people are having with Ruger pistols. I have a Ruger SR40c Compact and a Ruger EC9s Pistol and have not had a minutes problem with either of them. The EC9s is my every day carry and the Ruger SR40c is my bed carry. Yes I sleep with it in my bed. Then is why I like a manuel fired pistol. Safety.
I agree! For me..any weapon for self defense is just that. But I understand there’s different types of people in every hobby who are in the hobby for various reasons. But again for me…we all need to protect ourselves and we’re all gonna have our preferences based on different things.
@PhatTactical i want to get a mini-14 stainless tactical. Can only find one with 20 rd mags. May have to order 10's, if they let me have it shipped to oregon
I honestly don’t mind it, it doesn’t accidentally engage itself. So you could just not use it. I personally don’t use them but I do understand those who do.
@@Me2LancerI did 9 in the Navy. I'm just getting back into shooting and am surprised at the amount of folks in the UA-cam world that are anti-safety. I own this gun and personally like the safety on it. Easy to disengage when you slide your thumb around. And I personally like that the slide can't move when it's engaged as I've been carrying appendix. To each their own.
I really like my Security .380 and enjoy all the reviews online as I agree with all of them. A great firearm! .
Very pleased.... shoots great. The wife likes it, too. (she's had hand surgery... and this WORKS!)
Added this compact 380 to my edc. Overall, it is a great pistol.
thank you for this video ,as i get older for me .380 are the better choice ,and i don't care what anybody thinks !
No problem at all. Yes a .380 will still do the job jsut the same as 9mm
Great vid. My 9mm recoil is a little too much for my wife. This is the firearm I want her to try next.
It’s definitely softer shooting and big difference racking the slide. Let us know how she likes it!
It is for people that want one! Dont need a reason.
Great sights, comfortable size.
I agree! Especially on the size..not a tiny snappy .380 for sure

I agree on the accuracy and faster follow up shots too

I wonder what the issue is, please comment when they find out. She’s out a few hundred rounds thru it now with no issues.
Awesome weapon
The mrs likes it and honestly I wouldn’t mind carrying that as a pocket carry. Easier than to deal with IWB holster and all that.
security 380 👍
Its funny how any weapon thats able to take a life can be seen as not manly

Glad we could help , thanks for checking it out!
I've got the security 9 compact. Great lil gun. It's a fatty, tho. Hard for me to convincingly conceal. Still love it tho.
the 380 is slightly smaller than the security 9..maybe a better option for CC?

Gotta throw in some humor in there lol
I got 3×10 rd mags and a hogue grip, but didn't get the flush butt-plate.
We only received the 10 and 15 rd mag…but most pew pews now come in different combinations. How do you like it?

Too bad they put the safety on, it should’ve just been a larger size LCP max with no safety
