I have a nintendo switch but towards the end of 2020 I was feeling the urge to play some 3DS games! So I bought the black and blue one! And I don’t regret it at all! I agree with you that the DS gives a feeling that you can’t emulate with another system!
I agree, and I'm jealous of you. I'm getting my new 3ds xl or fixed soon, it's the galaxy one, but I wish I could've get the official purple one. though I have games installed digitally on the system, so I'm sticking with this one. I can't wait for it to be rapairee, I've still held onto my 3ds games now, so its only a matter of time till it gets repaired.

I just got one about about 2 weeks ago it’s the black one and I really like it I’m glad I bought and also a tip buy one from GameStop if u get one because it’s like $150 from GameStop for a used one
Yes!, I mean i have enjoyed a lot of ds and 3ds games on my laptop but the ones who require stylus and really takes advantage of the dual screen fucking suck at pc and even more on android. stuff like The world ends with you and kid icarus uprising are really meant to be played there
I got rid of my 3ds xl a few years ago. I'm regretting it now and would have held on to it if I'd known how well the homebrew community would grow to support it. It's the same reason my vita sat on the shelf for a couple of years until modders found exploits for the newer firmware versions. It really does breath new life into old consoles.
@@riccia888 Homebrew is essentially unlocking the ability to run apps that Nintendo did not sign off on. So with homebrew I can... play GameCube games with a PS3 controller. Why would I want to play with a PS3 controller when the better alternative of playing with a GameCube controller? I'm picky and I also don't want to spend a ton of money on a used GameCube controller.
I sold also my vita and 3ds XL and regreted it now I have switch oled and and I'm urging to get vita and 3ds XL.. from now on I will never sell console even I don't play it for a long time.
Got mine the day after they announced that they would discontinue them. Bought the last two new at the local Wal-Mart for $99 each. Been playing it continually since September 2020, and have had zero issues with it. Not doing any homebrew, keeping them original condition. I also have an original 2DS that I find really comfortable to hold using the PDP Trigger Grip. Even though I have home consoles, I have always been more drawn to handheld gaming, and was hoping that instead of the Switch Lite becoming a reality, I was kind of hoping that they would go one more generation of strictly handheld with a clamshell design and perhaps with a 5.5" screen and 720p with ability to have games that are 60fps. Just feel that the Switch and Switch Lite while considered as handheld hybrid consoles are just a bit too large to be considered true handhelds. Sure, I might be stuck in the past, and sure I realize that now Nintendo doesn't have to worry about a home console division and a handheld division, and I likely will be giving in to a Switch OLED, or the next iteration eventually.
I made a video on the OLED Switch a few weeks ago, honestly if they improved the hardware properly I would have been sold instantly, but just for a different screen and some minor design changes I can't justifiy spending so much money on it. Maybe in the future we can expect some smaller companies making clamshell consoles to cash in on the nostalgia of people like us xD
I bought one recently too. I’ve always wanted one because I love the design and I’ve only ever used the standard 3ds model so I’ve wanted to play on the XL screen for a while. I never really used the 3D feature, and I also love being able to get snes games from the Eshop
Years down the line I hope they go back and make new DS models lile they did with the SNES mini systems. The DS is still by far the superior handheld style imo. If they had made it bigger to have a switch like capability and you'd use a wired or wireless controller it would probably faired better than the switch. The switch as a handheld isn't bad, but its joycons are prone to drift ruining handheld entirely and the length as a handheld make it feel a bit flimsy and off putting. That and putting it into a pocket is a no no with joycons on, whereas the DS model youd just flip it shut and slide it in. With today's tech you can definitely get the same power as some mid range computers in a handheld the size of the 2DS XL.
Honestly I think its just not possible to have a handheld that small anymore with decent specs. The switch is much bigger and still has trouble running many games, and the steam deck is the first handheld to have pc level specs, equivalent to around a 1050, and that thing is BIG. Higher specs means more cooling and bigger battery which means big devices, so unfortunately I think the age of portables you can put in your pocket is over
Even if you dont like the 3d I recommend actually getting the regular new 3ds/xl, there are 2 types of screens you can get at random on the 3ds, TN and IPS, with ips being better, and while its random what you get on the new 3ds, on the new 2ds you can ONLY get the tn screen, also unpopular opinion, the 3d was awesome and I actually wish I could have the 3d on the switch
I’m pretty sure I’ve got the crappy screen on my 3ds xl. Perhaps the reason why I don’t like the system at all. The low resolution paired with the sub par screen makes my eyes hurt when playing 3d games. I only ever finished one game on the 3ds. I like gaming on my DS much more, games with pixel graphics (like gba games)look beautiful on the system.
I love old consoles for different reasons! Mostly because the experience of playing with each console is unique. So even if it's old, the games and the experience are what appeals to me
I still play mine daily. I have a 2ds XL and a doorstop 2ds. The doorstop version I use for my older DS games. I think the resolution is clearer for those old games.
I bought a couple New 2DS XL and some 3DS games for my girlfriend and myself last year. We both love them. I already had a DS Lite, and kept it solely to play Game Boy Advance games.
One of the perks of living here in Japan is having access to a huge 2nd hand market for these units. The majority of them looking brand new and many having the original packaging.
I have two 3dsXL's and a ds lite that i bought all in 2019-2021 and 8 copies of various pokemon DS games. I honestly believe these products are going to see a massive increase in price in the next 10 years
Hey! About the hinges, I got 2 of these new in box recently at a store here. The hinges are actually not loose at all, compared to my new 3ds xl they're pretty sturdy, actually. Maybe they wear down quicker over time or something. The lightweight top screen actually prevents a lot of flapping around too. This quickly became my favorite system after I got it!

I had the fire emblem edition 3ds xl for many years but recently it broke. So I bought a pikachu edition new 2ds xl and kept playing ds/3ds games. Bought yokai watch 2 and 3, completed monster hunter stories 1. I still enjoy playing on my 3ds, I've been on that console for so many years that the tiny screen or the low res graphic don't bother me at all. Solatorobo, my most beloved games of all, was for DS. I'm still plenty of games to play on 3ds, and plan to play on it for the years to come.
unfortunately I don't have an SD card reader so after I used a family members linux computer to put my files on the SD card I had no way of actually changing anything afterward but I found a workaround is to use 3DSFTP, its a little bit slower but its a lot more convenient than having to plug it in. I've been adding ROMS of old games I don't want to carry around in a plastic sandwich baggy to my 3ds from my phone with ANDFTP on my android phone. Never takes much longer than 5 minutes :)

God buying a used one here in the states are getting ridiculous. Used ones go for the price of brand new ones when they use to sell it. It’s not like they are scarce too. The DS has sold over 100 million hardware and even the oldest model is overpriced. Hoping they drop to reasonable prices soon

Im glad I managed to get my New Nintendo SNES 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS Fire Emblem Fates Edition when I did. I also bought my youngest sister a New Nintendo 3DS Galaxy Edition but I don't think she ever used it much.
I've played a lot of DS games and you either get only button gameplay or touch gameplay and in those rare occasions you get both but having mix options to play on the fly felt weird and you have to check the bottom screen to make sure you don't do anything stupid and when it comes to action games that does leave you wide open. I had this problem on the 3DS... until I played the Monster Hunter games, you can customize the bottom screen as extra action "shortcut" buttons. Whatever action you need. Combining, hunter arts, etc. Whereever you want in the screen. Near the right edge because you perfer moving around while you do s*** (at least on MH3U) and the right thumb can reach it quick OR you put it at the left side you might be a sitting duck but you can do basiclly do stuff quicker. THESE BUTTONS COME IN SIZES! Granted they come in 2 or four different sizes but this makes it so much better. As a noob you prety much start using the big ones but then you want to do more things so you replace those for medium sizes and finally you end up with a mosaic of tiny virtual buttons jamming as much space into the bottom screen so you can do the best you can do... also the "keyboard" when you chat with others online - but God Dang It! They could have added voice chat like other DS/3DS games like Pokemon or Heroes Of Ruin respectively. I'm not sure when... but after not playing any other game but MH for almost 3 years it wasn't until I noticed how easy I change beam weapons and do other things on the touch screen without looking when I got my hands on Metroid Samus Returns and going back to MH I was now aware that I was doing this and it sure does make playing any other games easier now.
I just recently purchased a regular 2ds. I’d prefer a 2dsXl or 3ds however all things considered, I’m pretty satisfied with the 2ds. I’m just glad I was able to grab one before they become impossible to find
This is a beast for Metroidvania fans! Homebrew it and have access for all 4 Metroid games that you need to play before Dread. Also all Castlevania 2d games (the only one missing would be SOTN)
I've been trying to buy one for a few months cuz the battery of my og 3ds died (I got a replacement but it doesn't last very long) but I haven't been able to find a new one for a reasonable price
Try looking for bids on ebay, I keep a eye on the ones from Japan if you plan to homebrew it anyway. If you don't mind too much about the condition you can get one at a reasonable price, especially if you don't mind getting a common color.
I have had an interest and started collecting 3ds since late 2018. The games I picked up are amazing. My collection is small but every game has been absolute quality. The issue I have recently, is it is no longer the "budget gamer" platform. Nearly everything (system and games alike) have on average doubled since around 2019, which shamefully leaves some people out of the barrier of entry. BTW you will enjoy Metroid Samus Returns. That's the game that reinvigorated me into Metroidvanias.
For some reason to me I think the best 3DS’s are the 3DS xl and 2DS (to the people that don’t like the extra 2 button’s on the back of the 3DS like me)
I bought three 2DS XL’s (white&orange, blue&black, green&black) at the end of 2019. Would’ve loved to have been able to grab the Hylian Shield edition.
When I broke my 3DS XL I picked up the New 2DS XL. I already had a switch at the time but I still wanted a 3DS. I haven't really put much hours into the 2DS I bought but I will still use it from time to time and I definitely want to have it available to me as an option or for those few times when I want to revisit old games. I am currently in the middle of a Link between worlds. I haven't played it for over a month but I am near the end game and I usually slow down or stop playing altogether near the end of Zelda games for some reason. I did the same thing with Wind Waker prior to a Link between worlds. I think I reached the credits on Wind Waker though I just didn't go back and finish all the end game or side stuff.
im prob guna buy a unoopend 2dsxl for around 350$,its the library of games that will keep you busy for years,of course you can emulate the games but you cant play them in bed or put a laptop in your pocket. good vid
I have the new 3ds xl and a 2ds slate. I have a mix of physical and digital games on them, a ton of games that i haven't even scratched the surface of. instead of buying new games i should really just charge it up and focus on going through my backlog.
I bought a New 2DS XL during the end of the 3DS life as a back up. People couldn't let 3DS and Switch coexist but I knew people would regret trading in their 3DS in some day. Thanks to Metroid, it was sooner than I thought.
The original smaller one definitely has sharper graphics on the smaller screens and somehow the original console seems sturdier and better built than those that followed imo. The new 3ds non xl version I think is a good middle ground in terms of sharper graphics v screen size.

You are so lucky the prices of the 2ds xl in belguim are ridiculous you can’t find them anywhere and when you find them in good condition with the box a bit beaten up it’ll cost you €200 i think it is really expensive considering the normal price was around €150 i think or €120
I know you can't openly say, "Hey! Get one of these and hack it for all the free pirated games you want!" And of course we...ahem.. don't condone this activity.. But let's just face it, the only people buying these handhelds post switch lite release are people looking to homebrew the shit out of them--or people who have an older 3DS or original DS with a large library of physical games. I do not say this in a bad way however. I personally got a 2DS XL in 2019 when the Switch Lite released for just this purpose. The system is great and I even play it more then my (non-hacked) Switch Lite that I got about 8 months later and it's not because it's hacked. I generally find games on the 2DS XL better optimized for the screen size. With Switch Lite, the problem with some titles is the fine text and the sense that games on the platform are made/designed to be played on a bigger screen. I also find the 2DS XL's design to be better ergonomically--especially/only if you buy or 3D print the comfort grip. Hard to express how much the flip open screen with the controls below, and out of the way, make a difference to the feel. Sure, there are some that may argue this and have a very different opinion--which is fine. I seriously feel like the Switch Lite has missed the mark somewhat, but Nintendo, being Nintendo, doesn't really care (as long as it's selling and making money). Finally, just as with folding phones.. Never say never. I think Nintendo, in time, will return to this form factor for their handheld.. Maybe it won't be a Switch lite replacement...maybe more of an "ultra" portable version of some kind. I think if they wait until say... 2024 ~ 2025 and give the phasing out of 3ds/2ds xl a few years.... It would only make sense to reintroduce a folding device.. It's all the hotness and push in the mobile space and why not portable consoles? Maybe they'll even run some mobile chipsets if the silicon get's good enough--which it's bound to. That or they may it beefier and still folding. Heck, if it was Switch Lite sized and folded, that would be fine--I'd be all over that and I'm sure many others would, too. What do you guys think?
Beat me to it lol. Homebrewed the shit out of my 3ds and i'm having a blast with it, currently playing mgs3 (for the hundredth time, but now on a handheld) and chrono trigger on an emulator. My only regret was not getting a vita instead of a 3ds since i'm not really a fan o jrpgs
I still have my 2DSXL and I bought a switch lit last year for Christmas, I have been going back and forth between both game systems, all though I love my switch lit I still love my 2DSXL
I bought the black and green version, boxed and new in stock clearance sale some years ago here in Prague. I have the same protection cases that you have and I have never removed them.... then I realized that the bottom half was full of marks. I really don't know what happened. It is a pity.

I think, the 2 & 3ds versions are the best handhelds from Nintendo. The only thing I miss a lot is to make save states for Gameboy Advance games in virtual console way. And I hope someone make a perfect N64 Emulator :)
N64 seems to be one of those consoles that is best enjoyed on the original hardware, im absolutely in favor of emulation and I use it regulary, but some systems are not as well suited for emulation than others...
The last New 3ds XL is the best real Handheld at the moment. Switch has a lot of games for a cool console. But not for a handheld to gaming on the way. The 3ds/N3ds is closed automatic a protection for buttons and Screens. And the dual screens are awesome.
My favourite portable console is New 2D/3D XL. Switch is ok in handheld but it poses a big problem to portable gaming. I felt that problem while playing the castle level of Luigi Mansion 3, which is the scale of the levels. Designing a game for portable gaming is different from TV gaming. Try playing both Mario 3D land and 3D world on handheld and you will understand that difference. We will not get those zoomed-in characters in handheld again! Between 2 screen and HD gaming, I would choose those 2 screen and clamshell design. N3DSXL with HD display would be my dream portable console.
the switch is ok in dock mode but a horrible handheld. its bulky and has no grips. the other thing is joycon drift. the joycons break and i hate it so much when that happens
I hate how there's no replacement battery covers for the new 3ds xl, mine is cracked and I've replaced the screen and battery but that one thing is stopping me from using it because it comes loose slightly every time
yeah, i still have many 3ds games cartridges and still growing, i bought another new 3ds this year replacing my old 1. too many good games and most of them worth replaying. really hope nintendo launch a new console that 3ds cartridge playable.

I got the original 3ds and a new 2ds xl, both are great no matter what route but at least I got access to all ds and 3ds games. I'd also say if you don't have a gba a ds lite is worth getting in 2021.
Why? Because the Touch Screen on my old one died and, Nintendo being Nintendo, I have literally no other way to play my extensive Etrian Odyssey collection... or Samus Returns... or all my old Vanilla DS games. There's a dozen games (at least) with 100s of hours of gameplay that I really don't want to not have easy access to.
I bought an original 3ds from someone second hand this year I had a 2ds but it got destroyed and I threw it in the bin I do have a Nintendo switch and it was patched and couldn't be hacked.. I just wanted to give the 3ds a new chance at life I love both.the 3ds got great games too.... I have to continue downloading more 3ds game roms... I'm not downloading any emulators yet..or never My switch is patched but paranormal

Even the rare ones are decently priced.

The emulators like desmume and citra are great dont get me wrong, but nothing beats actual hardware imo

A big fan of the DS range, I just bought a 2DSXL in 2021. Absolutely amazing console and I love it. I'm not a fan of the Switch.

Samus returns actually takes great advantage of the 3D feature on the N3dsXL. Underrated. Making my way through too.
Pro tip: Playing Nano Assault with the right stick (the grey dot thing) is awesome.

I have two 3dsXL's and a ds lite that i bought all in 2019-2021 and 8 copies of various pokemon DS games. I honestly believe these products are going to see a massive increase in price in the next 10 years

Hey! About the hinges, I got 2 of these new in box recently at a store here.
The hinges are actually not loose at all, compared to my new 3ds xl they're pretty sturdy, actually. Maybe they wear down quicker over time or something.
The lightweight top screen actually prevents a lot of flapping around too. This quickly became my favorite system after I got it!

I had the fire emblem edition 3ds xl for many years but recently it broke. So I bought a pikachu edition new 2ds xl and kept playing ds/3ds games. Bought yokai watch 2 and 3, completed monster hunter stories 1. I still enjoy playing on my 3ds, I've been on that console for so many years that the tiny screen or the low res graphic don't bother me at all. Solatorobo, my most beloved games of all, was for DS. I'm still plenty of games to play on 3ds, and plan to play on it for the years to come.
It's annoying how the microSD slot on the "new!" 3Ds can't be accessed without a screwdriver.
unfortunately I don't have an SD card reader so after I used a family members linux computer to put my files on the SD card I had no way of actually changing anything afterward but I found a workaround is to use 3DSFTP, its a little bit slower but its a lot more convenient than having to plug it in. I've been adding ROMS of old games I don't want to carry around in a plastic sandwich baggy to my 3ds from my phone with ANDFTP on my android phone. Never takes much longer than 5 minutes :)

God buying a used one here in the states are getting ridiculous. Used ones go for the price of brand new ones when they use to sell it. It’s not like they are scarce too. The DS has sold over 100 million hardware and even the oldest model is overpriced. Hoping they drop to reasonable prices soon

I've played a lot of DS games and you either get only button gameplay or touch gameplay and in those rare occasions you get both but having mix options to play on the fly felt weird and you have to check the bottom screen to make sure you don't do anything stupid and when it comes to action games that does leave you wide open.
I had this problem on the 3DS... until I played the Monster Hunter games, you can customize the bottom screen as extra action "shortcut" buttons.
Whatever action you need.
Combining, hunter arts, etc.
Whereever you want in the screen.
Near the right edge because you perfer moving around while you do s*** (at least on MH3U) and the right thumb can reach it quick OR you put it at the left side you might be a sitting duck but you can do basiclly do stuff quicker.
THESE BUTTONS COME IN SIZES!
Granted they come in 2 or four different sizes but this makes it so much better.
As a noob you prety much start using the big ones but then you want to do more things so you replace those for medium sizes and finally you end up with a mosaic of tiny virtual buttons jamming as much space into the bottom screen so you can do the best you can do... also the "keyboard" when you chat with others online - but God Dang It! They could have added voice chat like other DS/3DS games like Pokemon or Heroes Of Ruin respectively.
I'm not sure when... but after not playing any other game but MH for almost 3 years it wasn't until I noticed how easy I change beam weapons and do other things on the touch screen without looking when I got my hands on Metroid Samus Returns and going back to MH I was now aware that I was doing this and it sure does make playing any other games easier now.

This is a beast for Metroidvania fans! Homebrew it and have access for all 4 Metroid games that you need to play before Dread. Also all Castlevania 2d games (the only one missing would be SOTN)
I've been trying to buy one for a few months cuz the battery of my og 3ds died (I got a replacement but it doesn't last very long) but I haven't been able to find a new one for a reasonable price
Try looking for bids on ebay, I keep a eye on the ones from Japan if you plan to homebrew it anyway. If you don't mind too much about the condition you can get one at a reasonable price, especially if you don't mind getting a common color.
I have had an interest and started collecting 3ds since late 2018. The games I picked up are amazing. My collection is small but every game has been absolute quality. The issue I have recently, is it is no longer the "budget gamer" platform. Nearly everything (system and games alike) have on average doubled since around 2019, which shamefully leaves some people out of the barrier of entry.
BTW you will enjoy Metroid Samus Returns. That's the game that reinvigorated me into Metroidvanias.
For some reason to me I think the best 3DS’s are the 3DS xl and 2DS (to the people that don’t like the extra 2 button’s on the back of the 3DS like me)

I bought three 2DS XL’s (white&orange, blue&black, green&black) at the end of 2019. Would’ve loved to have been able to grab the Hylian Shield edition.
When I broke my 3DS XL I picked up the New 2DS XL. I already had a switch at the time but I still wanted a 3DS. I haven't really put much hours into the 2DS I bought but I will still use it from time to time and I definitely want to have it available to me as an option or for those few times when I want to revisit old games. I am currently in the middle of a Link between worlds. I haven't played it for over a month but I am near the end game and I usually slow down or stop playing altogether near the end of Zelda games for some reason. I did the same thing with Wind Waker prior to a Link between worlds. I think I reached the credits on Wind Waker though I just didn't go back and finish all the end game or side stuff.
I slow down on games I’m close to finishing as well. Especially if I really enjoyed the game. I think it’s cuz I don’t want the game to end
im prob guna buy a unoopend 2dsxl for around 350$,its the library of games that will keep you busy for years,of course you can emulate the games but you cant play them in bed or put a laptop in your pocket. good vid

I have the new 3ds xl and a 2ds slate. I have a mix of physical and digital games on them, a ton of games that i haven't even scratched the surface of. instead of buying new games i should really just charge it up and focus on going through my backlog.
I am a huge sucker for the 3D screen, so, I needed 3DS.
I bought a New 2DS XL during the end of the 3DS life as a back up. People couldn't let 3DS and Switch coexist but I knew people would regret trading in their 3DS in some day. Thanks to Metroid, it was sooner than I thought.
The main problem is the top screen is very fragile so you need to be carful with it I prefer the New 3ds XL. it’s a little more durable.

The new 3ds (the smaller one) is my favorite, i play it dayly.
The original smaller one definitely has sharper graphics on the smaller screens and somehow the original console seems sturdier and better built than those that followed imo. The new 3ds non xl version I think is a good middle ground in terms of sharper graphics v screen size.
I primarily collect ds and 3ds games. It is hands down the best system in my opinion. The second system I like is psp.
The speakers on the bottom are for further modding.
The 3D feature is kind of a must for most games, casual.
I got one too and installed cfw, I’d never played any of the Pokémon games after gen 5 so I’m happy with it

You are so lucky the prices of the 2ds xl in belguim are ridiculous you can’t find them anywhere and when you find them in good condition with the box a bit beaten up it’ll cost you €200 i think it is really expensive considering the normal price was around €150 i think or €120

I know you can't openly say, "Hey! Get one of these and hack it for all the free pirated games you want!" And of course we...ahem.. don't condone this activity.. But let's just face it, the only people buying these handhelds post switch lite release are people looking to homebrew the shit out of them--or people who have an older 3DS or original DS with a large library of physical games.
I do not say this in a bad way however. I personally got a 2DS XL in 2019 when the Switch Lite released for just this purpose. The system is great and I even play it more then my (non-hacked) Switch Lite that I got about 8 months later and it's not because it's hacked. I generally find games on the 2DS XL better optimized for the screen size.
With Switch Lite, the problem with some titles is the fine text and the sense that games on the platform are made/designed to be played on a bigger screen. I also find the 2DS XL's design to be better ergonomically--especially/only if you buy or 3D print the comfort grip. Hard to express how much the flip open screen with the controls below, and out of the way, make a difference to the feel.
Sure, there are some that may argue this and have a very different opinion--which is fine. I seriously feel like the Switch Lite has missed the mark somewhat, but Nintendo, being Nintendo, doesn't really care (as long as it's selling and making money).
Finally, just as with folding phones.. Never say never. I think Nintendo, in time, will return to this form factor for their handheld.. Maybe it won't be a Switch lite replacement...maybe more of an "ultra" portable version of some kind. I think if they wait until say... 2024 ~ 2025 and give the phasing out of 3ds/2ds xl a few years.... It would only make sense to reintroduce a folding device.. It's all the hotness and push in the mobile space and why not portable consoles? Maybe they'll even run some mobile chipsets if the silicon get's good enough--which it's bound to. That or they may it beefier and still folding. Heck, if it was Switch Lite sized and folded, that would be fine--I'd be all over that and I'm sure many others would, too.

Beat me to it lol. Homebrewed the shit out of my 3ds and i'm having a blast with it, currently playing mgs3 (for the hundredth time, but now on a handheld) and chrono trigger on an emulator. My only regret was not getting a vita instead of a 3ds since i'm not really a fan o jrpgs

The top screen breaks too fast .. I had 2 different 2ds xl and both of them broke out of nowhere

I think, the 2 & 3ds versions are the best handhelds from Nintendo. The only thing I miss a lot is to make save states for Gameboy Advance games in virtual console way. And I hope someone make a perfect N64 Emulator :)
N64 seems to be one of those consoles that is best enjoyed on the original hardware, im absolutely in favor of emulation and I use it regulary, but some systems are not as well suited for emulation than others...
The last New 3ds XL is the best real Handheld at the moment.
Switch has a lot of games for a cool console.
But not for a handheld to gaming on the way.
The 3ds/N3ds is closed automatic a protection for buttons and Screens.
And the dual screens are awesome.

My favourite portable console is New 2D/3D XL. Switch is ok in handheld but it poses a big problem to portable gaming. I felt that problem while playing the castle level of Luigi Mansion 3, which is the scale of the levels. Designing a game for portable gaming is different from TV gaming. Try playing both Mario 3D land and 3D world on handheld and you will understand that difference. We will not get those zoomed-in characters in handheld again!
Between 2 screen and HD gaming, I would choose those 2 screen and clamshell design.
N3DSXL with HD display would be my dream portable console.
the switch is ok in dock mode but a horrible handheld. its bulky and has no grips. the other thing is joycon drift. the joycons break and i hate it so much when that happens
I hate how there's no replacement battery covers for the new 3ds xl, mine is cracked and I've replaced the screen and battery but that one thing is stopping me from using it because it comes loose slightly every time

I got the original 3ds and a new 2ds xl, both are great no matter what route but at least I got access to all ds and 3ds games. I'd also say if you don't have a gba a ds lite is worth getting in 2021.
I have a New 3DS XL. Still works great! Scratched though.
Why? Because the Touch Screen on my old one died and, Nintendo being Nintendo, I have literally no other way to play my extensive Etrian Odyssey collection... or Samus Returns... or all my old Vanilla DS games. There's a dozen games (at least) with 100s of hours of gameplay that I really don't want to not have easy access to.
