Just picked this exact handheld up a couple weeks ago and followed the same website guide. Kudos to the creators of those sites, I used the same one for my WiiU.
I watched this today and was immediately sold, I love hacking my consoles and handhelds but needed something with more power, the Vita while awesome just didn't have enough oomph. Thank you for linking 3ds.hacks.gude to your viewers! Too many people make bad, unreviewed guides that get outdated and damage users' consoles. Great work on the video!
Literally bought this 2 days after watching this video, got it yesterday, modded it straight out of the box and put some games and Homebrews on it, with a 64 gb Samsung micro SD.
I modded my brother's New 3DS XL for him a little while ago and it was honestly one of the easiest mods I've ever done. 3ds.hacks.guide is extremely easy to follow and definetally recommend it to anyone wanting to get a little more life out of their 3DS/2DS as it just makes it much better. And to clarify for people unaware, SOME of the R4 cards (Such as Gateway cards) will work for 3DS stuff, however you have to be running an extremely old firmware and it's just not worth it when the softmod is free to do.
I would still recommend an R4 card anyway for the DS games, it just runs them better than Twilight or what was the emulation thing (plus you can separate the storage for the DS games, effectively adding more of it for 3DS stuff, no DS games there after all).
@D. Mood, the first time I was setting up TWiLight, it felt like a hassle even setting it up (fairly sure I did something wrong, just wasn't sure what, since I did get it working eventually). Got an R4i Gold 3DS Plus a few months ago, and I really like it a lot.
I mean, if your 3DS gets bricked, if you have a flashcart that can use NTRboot, you can use that to unbrick, IIRC. Plus, if you have multiple systems to mod, you can use just the one card, too. I personally like having something to occupy the card slot, so I have my flashcart there.
@@helentran204 What kind of unbricking you mean? Don't remember now (not as doubting, just really forgot), was it that you boot it straight from the NTRboot and perform recovery straight from that? One tip I would always give too is having a NAND backup, can save you from pretty much any issue from what I've seen. With that you're quite safe whatever happens to it, unless the hardware itself dies of course. It has saved my ass once. You can even hardmod the console and inject the backed up NAND straight into the console's memory chip in case everything else fails. It's one of those things you really cannot skip when modding, when I did it to friends or so I always store the backup on a cloud folder as well so they (hopefully) download it too and keep it safe.
You are the MVP man! Both mentioning and that you are shipping overseas is great! I've seen some less savory actors not mention this until way later in the process etc, sometimes after giving follows, email and/or other details they benefit perhaps from, that you are not eligible... I like that you also include people abroad :)
Bought a New 3DS XL on OfferUp a few weeks ago for $100, did the exact same thing with it! Great guide on that site and seedminer worked perfectly. Awesome vid man!
My god the 2DSXL is just perfect!!!! ...as someone who never really noticed the difference in 3D. Its faster than what im used to and the screen size is perfect. I got the same as the video one but in green and its beautiful.....
Few notes. It's very easy. I've no experience before my ds hack and this was easy to follow. 2 you don't need a strong pc. You can have someone else's break the code for you seed miner exploit. Took maybe 2 minutes.
They didn't want to break compatibility with old games. Also, I don't know if the gpu could stand the up on resolution. Also maybe it would have made the handheld more expensive.
The ds will never truly die it will always remain in our hearts and memories for years to come and I think that even when its discontinued its internet browser camera and steetpass can make it last longer
So looking forward to this. I literally did the same thing a few months back. Im sure many people have more than 1 3DS. I bought the original on release and later got an Ambassador edition newer one, that i cherish dearly. I homebrewed the original 3DS and ofcourse there are a few downfalls. I spied a cheaper one like the one in your video recently and just had to go all out on it. In terms of my social life, its embarassing how many 3DS games i own...and lets not catalogue my regular DS games. Its been rather fun, especially during these quarantine times, to work on a project of putting all my games in one place. And some kind of system in place to backup up my saves two and from my PC. Haven't a few methods and exploring multiple optiosn of it. Its been incredibly fun. Even the streaming side was a fun experiment though...my poor wifi =] Can i saw the homebrew discord channels are also incredibly helpful whilst also maintaining major paitence with peoples rather ignorant computer questions (mine included) Love the idea of backing up all my games and having their saves consistent across device emulators without the need constnatly copy files and stuff.... working on it slowly. Validating all my game installs and checking my saves are all restored....is a long process lol. My major thing i want this for would be hte pokemon games. When you transfer pokemon up a generation to some extent its usually a one way deal. Homebrew has allowed me to backup my pokemon prior to sending them up. Then i can restore. This is all for personal reasons. Its just nice to have the team in the original games. PS, going to binge your videos good sir. Your pressence on Spawncast has become part of my sunday ritual. Its so wholesome and great. I like the techie side you bring - the grey area topics and developer knowledge with porting etc
Yes. "New" is the extra performance, the XL is the larger device. To note, there was no 2DS XL, there was only the 2DS, that has ceased production and there is now only the "New" 2DS XL.
It is because there is no New 2DS standard size. 3DS - 3DS XL - 2DS = All the same, old hardware New 3DS - New 3DS XL - New 2DS XL = All the same, better than the older line.
Having a 3DS console its a must for portable gaming. If you travel a lot or something like that you will like the experience of this handheld, I love mine and spent tons of hours playing Mario Kart 7 online

@@fryncyaryorvjink2140 You don't think games have gotten better over the years? It's true that what has improved over the years has been graphics more so then gameplay, but you have to at least give a little credit where credit is due. Funny thing actually happened while I was modding my New 2DS XL. Basically, while I was installing the Homebrew software, I was noticing some weird crap on the SD card, but I ignored it and just followed the tutorial I was using. Once I opened up my Homebrew for the first time, I discovered that my New 2DS XL, which had been refurbished by Nintendo themselves, had someone else's Homebrew on the SD card! I got rid of some of it, and updated the version of mGBA they had on there, but that was kind of funny. Also, does Daedalus require a specific crack to work? I tried to use it with my Steelhax, and the thing would just freeze whenever I tried to load it.

Since Nintendo doesn't want me to have access to my $500 of 3DS purchases on two systems at once, there's nothing to do with the system I just bought, so I'm planning to mod it and play through some older homebrew I've missed. Great video and timing as always!
I remember everyone arguing about if n64 emulation would be possible even on the n3ds
Dreamcast is coming in the future as well
If it runs Star Wars shadows of the empire for the N64 I’m sold.
I don't see why not. I had full speed N64 emulation in late 2013-2014ish on my Sony Xperia SP and ZTE Avid 4G...

I just realized that i've bought the systems you've given away after seeing your videos about them.
I guess i'm buying a 2DS XL next...
Ironically I actually decided to mod my N3DSXL a day before this was uploaded and struggled a bit with actually finding and downloading stuff so this video directing me to guides that are extremely easy to follow is a huge help, thanks MVG!
I don’t expect you to read this and I don’t even want a response if you happen to. I just wanted to say that your videos bring me a deep sense of comfort for whatever reason. So thank you and keep up the good work

I always on the look for that one in my area. I saw a regular 2ds for about 80usd and ordered it right away, while I was waiting for the seller to ship the 2ds I came upon a New 3ds xl for 100usd in very good condition(almost brand new) with 4 3ds and 11 ds cartridge. I had to cancel the 2ds order and fortunately the seller was nice to understand the situation and she also has problems shipping the 2ds because of the pandemic. It was my best purchase ever.

I picked up a 2DSXL after you posted this video since you mentioned it was probably on its way out and now it’s gone forever. Thank you for this public service! I never would have gotten one in time and would have missed out on owning one!
I've just installed retroarch on a new 2dsxl using the flashcard exploit, it took me several hours, not easy with latest firmware. Thank you for this video, now I can play Sonic 3 Complete in portable mode.

I find it funny that to mod my new3DS I used a magnet to make it go into sleep mode hah. fun modding things
What ?
@@iamnotyourbuddyGUY the installation guide (using ntrboot) explains it in better detail, but basically there's a sort of recovery mode that you can access by pressing some of the buttons whilst the lid is detected as "closed" by a magnetic switch in the system.
@@luznoceda5322 I can't remember, the ntrboot guide will describe it
Well I wanted to pause the game without closing and opening up the lid every 5-10 minutes (thus waring it down).
Asked for a mod for button combo sleep, and was told that sleep function only activated when it detects the magnet of the speaker when the lid is closed.
So, I ripped a magnet from a freezer decoration and now I can pause whenever by placing that little manget
And now U don't even have to do that old school trick ...
Good timing, been planning to buy one of these, never got to play most of the DS library so this will be a great addition to my portable gaming

I went to my local Walmart and bought one of the 3 remaining for $99. Let the games begin!! Thanks a bunch for this video. Cheers!

The Vitas homebrew community is so much more mature, who knows, maybe the 3ds community will catch up at some point, it's getting there!
Here's a tip to speed up retroarch: delete the core .cia files and info files you don't use and it'll load much much faster.
Also why not mention gba?
Thanks for the tip! Do you happen to know as well how to remove a core icon from the 3DS home menu? I tried removing them through data management but they always automatically gets restored for some reason.
@@WiZzArDStudios Do you have FBI? If you do, go under Titles, then find the core you want to delete, press A, then Delete Title and Ticket.
@@Immadeus I don't think that works because the cores used are installed as cias at launch if they aren't already. I don't know the reasoning, but since it takes 20 seconds to load a core, it's more effective to have the shortcuts.

@@WiZzArDStudios they're installed whenever you load them up. You can remove all tiles you don't use anyway, but for those you use, the best, you can do is hide them away at the end of some folder.

i few years back i got a new 3ds non xl for 99 bucks from walmart's website on their black friday sale, what a great deal. I kept it clean and it's soft modded with loads of games on top of all the ds and 3ds carts i already had.
Just bought this at Walmart myself for 99 bucks last week! You cannot beat this deal at all! I love it! I bought the original 3ds when it launched in 2011 and got rid of it about 3 years ago. I wasn’t really sold on the 3D back then but some games did look cool.
How you were able to do fireball forward motions on that little d-pad is what impressed me the most.

I bought one of these about a year ago, and really haven't used it much. Definitely going to mod it after seeing what this thing is capable of. Pretty impressive.
I was doing a quick read up on the retroarch faq and it said that on boot the loading times are long because every core installed is initialized on boot. If you get rid of cores you don't use in your /cores folder it will reduce the load times significantly.

Well now I feel like a dingus for getting one of those R4 carts I got on a whim but haven't even gotten around using yet. For a year.
It still has better game compatibility, and also makes the modding process for a 3ds even quicker/simpler, so it's not really a waste either.
Dingus stinks
I love my hacked N2DSXL to bits. It's such a brilliant little device. Hacks and homebrew breathe so much life to discontinued devices too.

Shame they didnt make the “new” line of 3ds’ at least 480p
Wait they aren't?
@Cuca Beludo sad, the new 3ds lineup had so much potential
At that point you may as well make a new handheld.
They didn't want to break compatibility with old games. Also, I don't know if the gpu could stand the up on resolution. Also maybe it would have made the handheld more expensive.
You don't notice the resolution if you actually have the console in your hands so making it 480p would be useless
Modding mine currently to get ROMs and re-experience all the DS and 3DS games from my childhood! So far so good.
Even the streaming side was a fun experiment though...my poor wifi =]
Can i saw the homebrew discord channels are also incredibly helpful whilst also maintaining major paitence with peoples rather ignorant computer questions (mine included)
Love the idea of backing up all my games and having their saves consistent across device emulators without the need constnatly copy files and stuff.... working on it slowly.
I thought it was the "new" that came with extra features not the "xl" which is just the physically bigger one.
Because it is, there's no difference between the new3ds/new3dsXL/new2dsXL
Yes. "New" is the extra performance, the XL is the larger device. To note, there was no 2DS XL, there was only the 2DS, that has ceased production and there is now only the "New" 2DS XL.
This is why this hand heald didn't do too well.

@@fryncyaryorvjink2140 You don't think games have gotten better over the years? It's true that what has improved over the years has been graphics more so then gameplay, but you have to at least give a little credit where credit is due.
There was a huge boom in microtransactions and I think that's where gaming took a huge leap backwards, but not all companies do that, not respectable ones atleast. There have been a slew of amazing tittles with great narratives and gameplay the past decade though, that I will admit.
@@InDeath theres a few exceptions, sure, but overall a lot of games are more like work than fun, grinding forever to level up and unlock something thats not really worth the time wasted. We all thought we'd have destructible environments by now, or awesome physics, in just about every game that involves weapons. Funny thing actually happened while I was modding my New 2DS XL. Basically, while I was installing the Homebrew software, I was noticing some weird crap on the SD card, but I ignored it and just followed the tutorial I was using. This was specifically around May/June 2020. Nintendo bundled remaining New 2DS XL stock with Mario Kart 7 pre-installed and reduced the price to $99. These sold very quickly, and you are out of luck getting it anywhere near this price now.

it's not scalped and the people selling it for a higher cost aren't scummy, it's value in general raised from the fact that they are never going to be produced ever again. it's shitty, but it's not immoral like actual scalping is. i still recommend getting one, i bought a 2ds xl pretty recently and even with the high price you get every single game on it + all the other nintendo handhelds prior to it for free. i recommend checking facebook marketplace before anywhere else because you could find it being sold by people that have no idea the price has gone up.
