Also, maybe it's just myself, but I absolutely hate the *soft* buttons the 2DS has, compared to the clicky ones of the 3DS XL
I had to pay nearly as much as a switch to get a "new" 3ds xl, albeit I'm extremely good condition and with some games. The normal 3ds xl is definitely the better deal.
@@CGoody5642 Same here. When it came to my handheld consoles, it has to be the best model, great condition, and my favorite colorway (black). So I had shell out as much as a nintendo switch, and I'd say it was worth considering the prices are already inflated, it's a relatively old console, and a whole sea of games I'd never imagine playing but now have access too.
From a functionality perspective, I definitely prefer the New 3DS for the best 3D experience with the system. If you get the XL you might as well get the 2DS XL because the 3D effect on the XL's is, while easier to align, a lot less noticeable and, at best, kinda tricks your brain into seeing the picture a little clearer. On the base size New 3DS the depth effect is far more noticeable and can really feel like your playing your game looking through a window instead of a flat page. The base one also offers better pixel density since it's the same resolution as the XL. If you care about visual flare like either of those, then the New 3DS is the way to go, especially since the New systems do have a few exclusives, better modding potential, and some amount of better functionality with the control nub for camera controls in some games and the faster loading times. But that's just my opinion
@@Yoshikage8008 Yeah, I just found that I got used to it as I played it more and stopped really noticing the effect very much on the XL. With the regular sized, I feel like I can feel it more. Kinda like, the XL increased the width and height of the screen, but kept the 3D depth the same, so the depth feels kinda "scaled down" in a way. Like the ratio of area to depth is less than before. I like that effect to be really strong, so that's why I love the regular sized one. It's a trip when you go back and forth between the 2
@@batorerdyniev9805 Never seen that. You might be holding the system too close to your face for the face tracking to work properly. Or maybe too far. It has a pretty generous sweet spot from my experience.

I just bought a New 3DS XL with 27 games for $175 USD in March this year. Currently playing A Link Between Worlds and loving it. It also has a bunch of GBA games on it.

The homebrew alone is enough to make getting a 3ds worth it, also I wish you noted the circle pad pro as an option for people with non new models, as much as I actually like the 3d on the new 3ds, playing on the original with two circle pads is just better for games that supported it, I kinda wish you could use a circle pad pro on the new 3ds xl lol
I actually wanted to get one because I missed out on it when it was coming out and pretty much just to play the exclusive zelda games. So thank you for this video!
Triforce heroes is a good one, play with two other heroes (if you manage to find one or a friend) or you can play solo, there is even a discord server for it and it is pretty active for a dead game
There are tools and emotes to let friends know about things, and you can create outifts by obtaining materials that help you, for example: There is an outfit called Kokiri tunic that allows for you to shoot 3 arrows when there is the bow item in the stage, there are even challenges like don't fall if the edge or no weapons
This was awesome. TBH I have a modded 2DS XL, & know a bit of the history, but I keep getting shamefully tempted to collect other DSes from the 3DS family & this was a great and entertaining breakdown of many of the differences.
I'm sadly a fallen 2ds xl player. Please be careful and try not to drop it or shake it very hard. My 2ds xl broke in half from a drop. These things are incredibly weak. I'm just letting people know so that they don't go through the same fate as me
Not to mention, the New 3DS (Non-XL) is quite rare in some places, US specifically, so I'd say avoid it unless you really need the size and the "New" features.
I know someone who once owned a regular 3DS. Playing it first-hand was alright but after a while, my hands get uncomfortable. Thankfully nothing in this thing breaks easily but I've read that some people have issues when powering up the 3DS. I don't know if it depends on how long it was used how old the system or the battery is but of course batteries die out for handhelds eventually (same with the Wii U). As someone who used to own the 3DS XL when it came out, it was actually a really good handheld system to play. The controls were great and it's really comfortable to play. Sadly opening and closing the clamshell enough times eventually cracks the hinges and to my surprise, it was a common issue among 3DS XL users. I don't think it ever happens to the original 3DS and I don't recall this happening to other DS systems that had hinges so it's likely because of the material the 3DS XL had which also explains the loud snap you hear. Also, this might happen to other 3DS systems but the plastic on the circle pad comes off at some point (another common issue). Kind of a bummer but the controls feel a bit better for some people including myself. I've got a regular 2DS a while ago and it was actually the best thing to have in the 3DS family. Very comfortable and nice controls. I'd definitely recommend the regular 2DS rather you're on a budget or not.
@@mariocart2wrholder yeah, but that's the thing. Being able to swap Out faceplates should've been available in all of the "new" models as that would've been a way to personalize them.
I was able to get my new 2DS XL last year for $85 and it included Mario Kart 7 at Walmart. A great deal. The fact that these things are going for as much as a Switch now (which are easily found in stores) is insane.
All the critique you had about the 2ds XL are what I love about it (except the stylus). You CANNOT ignore that the 2ds xl might be the best-looking devices of all time. It's by far my favorite of the 3ds family.
I've had my new 3ds xl for 5 ish years. Great for modding and still holds up. Only thing wrong with it is the circle pad disintegrated after those 5 years.
Mine just fell apart the other day. It looked like it was in really good condition, but a third of it just suddenly cracked. Gonna try to replace it with a New 2DS XL’s rubber pad. If that one deteriorates in a few years I might have to get a plastic one

I think it would be awesome if you'd look into the 3DS modding scene and take another look as to which variant is more worth your money and the advantages one would give over the others.
I'd get a "new" model if I didn't feel like they were just a tad overpriced at the moment. On the other hand I originally got the limited edition Zelda 3DS when it first came out and later got a used 3DS XL. Just not the "new" model of either 3ds or 2ds.
My wife and I actually own the Zelda Link Between Worlds 3DS, but in all honesty I do want a “New” 3DS XL because of the playing power, but also since I can play SNES games via the Virtual Console. Still I was amused by your history and take on this whole 3DS generation.
As a long time DS/3Ds owner my personal favorite is the 2ds XL with an aftermarket grip. Of course I bought my 2Ds XL brand new for around $100 when Walmart was fire selling them.
Im glad I have the NEW 2DS XL. the big screens, fast loading times due to being one of the 'new' models and no 3D which I never really used. plus a really slick design. even in 2021, there are so many great 3DS and DS games to play: stuff like pokemon ultra sun, fire emblem awakening, dragon quest 8 remake, mario kart... the list go on

I think the best one is the 2DS XL due to the bigger screens and no additional 3D nonsense. It also seems to be the most popular right now when looking at the prices shooting up more and more.
I always wanted a ds ever since I was a little kid because all my cousins and friends had one and I loved Pokemon. I finally got a New 2DS XL for the pokeball edition and I’m absolutely loving it! Do not regret buying it at all!
I've had so many 3DS family consoles its crazy. I just bought another 2DS a few months ago, sold my New 3DS xl 2 years ago, regretted it ever since. So i'm still happy to have a 2DS back in my life after re-aquiring a vita
I also sold my xl at a certain point X( I bought a white one in box from japan cuz i really wanted one, and it luckily was dual ips panels. I was lucky it was only $99 XD
i actually did buy a new 2ds xl just last summer for the purpose of finally replacing my very old, uncomfortable 2011 og 3ds with something better in every way. i contemplated just shelling out the extra money to get a new 3ds xl but considering the only difference was the lack of 3d, something i personally couldn’t care less about, it was the best option for me (at least considering new 2ds xls were cheaper than new 3ds xls last summer as they should be, rather than it supposedly now being the other way around like he says in the vid). the new 2ds xl fit my very specific niche. id rather say “fuck it i can save some money because I don’t care about the 3d at all” than spend that extra money to get the 3d
I'm a fan of the New 3DS non XL. It's more pocket friendly which is a big part of my reason for wanting to take it places with me instead of a Switch. Its matte finish doesn't show scratches like the XL. And it doesn't feel top-heavy in my hands. Oh BTW yeah the cartridge slot placement is strange, but on the original 3DS the charging port was right next to a shoulder button, making it annoying to play while charging if you have big hands. The New ones center the charging port which gets it out of the way, but then between that, the IR port and the lanyard loop there's nowhere good to stick a cartridge slot.
Dude you have great taste! Seafoam 2DS and FE N3DSXL are my fav editions of those. Vintage PC stuff and old school iMac are cool too. The 3DS line rules. I always felt so lucky being a kid when the base 3ds model released. I remember playing the crap out of that thing and never having a problem with the small size of the console because my hands were also very small and fit the device perfectly. 8 or 9 years later might be a different story, but that's why I bought an XL model when I started feeling nostalgic.
By far for me the best experience was on a New 3ds XL. Face tracking 3D I could use for more than 5 minutes along with the added buttons added a lot to games like smash bros and Majoras mask
I recently got a new 3ds xl to replace the one that I sold when I got my Switch. It's amazing when you add homebrew. There are so many amazing games and Mario 64 at 60fps is ridiculous lol.

@@panosmosproductions3230 Just so you know, save data for physical games are tied to the cartridge. For digital games, it's tied to, well, the game! Extra Data is always on the SD card, and I assume system transfer is probably going to include Extra Data
I absolutely love how you used various songs from the anime Mitsuboshi Colors, its OST is so catchy. Also you forgot to mention that the N3DS/N3DS XL/N2DS XL can also play SNES games from the 3DS' Virtual Console (although you don't need a New model to run SNES games as long as you have Homebrew). Anyway, I definitely prefer the N3DS/N3DS XL/N2DS XL simply because it's faster than the 3DS/3DS XL/2DS overall (even the menus loads faster on the New ones), which is really important if you want to play the latest 3DS as some of them runs smoother on the New models. And holy smokes, the prices are ridiculously high in the US, I can find a N3DS XL for like 120€ in my country.
i think the best option for most people might be to buy a japanese 3ds, as those are WAY cheaper. i got an original 3ds ll from ebay for like, $100 the other day. the obvious issue is that it won’t run north american games and that the system is in japanese, but if what you want to do is run game cards and not much else (which is like, 90% the purpose of a 3ds anyway) then you can softmod the system to remove region locking and run your own games not the ideal situation but it can save you a lot of money if you are willing to do it
You should talk about the IPS lottery so people know what theyre buying. The new3dsxl came with 2 different type of screens.. TN and IPS. Some had both TN screens, some have one TN and one IPS and the holy grail is dual IPS screens. I wish I knew this before purchasing a new3dsxl, however I will probably just swap them out some day just like I do with my other consoles (gba, gbc, ds, etc)
Also, keep in mind that the 3ds family is the hardest console to take apart/rebuild. I have had every model apart, and they all suck (except for the original 2ds).
Definitely either the new 3DS or the new 3DS LL Both are great consoles and it just depends on what you value the most, custom face plates, and smaller form factor for easier travel or larger screen!

It was obvious which one I should buy! I still have it- I lost the stylus really early on, but I have a replacement now, although it doesn’t fit the slot. I’m perfectly happy with my system! I put this decal on it a few years ago, it has a sloth on it and it’s very cute
I bought a gray 'New' 3DS XL with some games and accessories for my birthday. I'm genuinely excited to be able to play 3DS games again after my first two 3DS's broke and can't wait for it to arrive. :3
You really can't go wrong with any of them. Sure the 3DS original is the worst variant, but even then, it's a 3DS. But, if you can, get a New! console. The power they have make homebrew a dream.
But that's just my opinion
ty for convincing me of the better model :)
I love my new 3ds xl. The 3D effect is still amazing for me
@@Yoshikage8008 Yeah, I just found that I got used to it as I played it more and stopped really noticing the effect very much on the XL. It's a trip when you go back and forth between the 2
I have a small new 3ds, and the 3d just makes the image wobble
@@batorerdyniev9805 Never seen that. You might be holding the system too close to your face for the face tracking to work properly. Or maybe too far. It has a pretty generous sweet spot from my experience.

Dude same
This was awesome.
I'm just letting people know so that they don't go through the same fate as me
@@nintendofanatic2837 Yeah. I’m in that situation rn. I’m having some LCD leakage going on. Damn. My og 3ds lasted longer than my 2ds xl 😔
Not to mention, the New 3DS (Non-XL) is quite rare in some places, US specifically, so I'd say avoid it unless you really need the size and the "New" features.
I love the old 3DS! It's glossy design looks so good and the smaller screen makes the low resolution look better
Regular 2ds is fantastic I agree! Very unappreciated I think.
bro, you literally made me laugh many times. keep up for the good work.
I wish they did faceplate for the new 3DS XL and not just the new 3DS.
It's cuz the faceplate feature was only in the non-xl version
@@mariocart2wrholder yeah, but that's the thing. Being able to swap Out faceplates should've been available in all of the "new" models as that would've been a way to personalize them.

I was able to get my new 2DS XL last year for $85 and it included Mario Kart 7 at Walmart. A great deal. The fact that these things are going for as much as a Switch now (which are easily found in stores) is insane.
Bought a New 3DS XL for $100 & UA-cam's algorithm brought me here lol
How and where
Where you got it?
The RPG library on this system is among my favorite ever. With SMTIV and apocalypse being my personal favorite.
Dang, good content. Started a yt on an alt and it’s real inspiring to see someone at 5k subs. Also prone to financial decisions like buying a 3ds
I've done a lot of repairs on 3ds- luckily it is not too hard to change the circle pad :D
Mine just fell apart the other day. It looked like it was in really good condition, but a third of it just suddenly cracked. Gonna try to replace it with a New 2DS XL’s rubber pad. If that one deteriorates in a few years I might have to get a plastic one

Watching this cause I’m 30 now and I want to feel nostalgic and buy a DS. This kids reviews are underrated. Keep up the good work mate 👍🏾
Man the editing and video style of this reminds me of good times...
As a long time DS/3Ds owner my personal favorite is the 2ds XL with an aftermarket grip. Of course I bought my 2Ds XL brand new for around $100 when Walmart was fire selling them.
Im glad I have the NEW 2DS XL. the big screens, fast loading times due to being one of the 'new' models and no 3D which I never really used. plus a really slick design. even in 2021, there are so many great 3DS and DS games to play: stuff like pokemon ultra sun, fire emblem awakening, dragon quest 8 remake, mario kart... the list go on
Whatever you do, please be careful with the 2ds xl. I own one, and it broke in half from a drop. Before that, it started freezing and nothing I did worked

i own old 3ds xl and new 3ds regular, i like playing with the new 3ds but i like the overall design of the old 3ds xl. the cartridge slot, the sd card slot, the wireless switch and the stylus has better placement in the old 3ds xl. i wish they adapt that design rather than redesigning.
Who's bright idea was it to make people have to unscrew the back plate just to get to the SD card?
I think the best one is the 2DS XL due to the bigger screens and no additional 3D nonsense. It also seems to be the most popular right now when looking at the prices shooting up more and more.
I always wanted a ds ever since I was a little kid because all my cousins and friends had one and I loved Pokemon. I finally got a New 2DS XL for the pokeball edition and I’m absolutely loving it! Do not regret buying it at all!

i actually did buy a new 2ds xl just last summer for the purpose of finally replacing my very old, uncomfortable 2011 og 3ds with something better in every way. i contemplated just shelling out the extra money to get a new 3ds xl but considering the only difference was the lack of 3d, something i personally couldn’t care less about, it was the best option for me (at least considering new 2ds xls were cheaper than new 3ds xls last summer as they should be, rather than it supposedly now being the other way around like he says in the vid). the new 2ds xl fit my very specific niche. id rather say “fuck it i can save some money because I don’t care about the 3d at all” than spend that extra money to get the 3d
I’m in love with the Switch now, but I’ll be back to the 3DS.
