Was lucky enough to get a *new* 2DS XL a couple weeks ago, for only $80! (The only issue with it at all is the top screen is a bit wobbly after clicking into place). Something about the 2DS XL just feels so sleek. It's alwo the first ds ive owned without 3D, since the very original DS. It's crazy to think this 2DS model came out just a few months apart from the Switch
@@ikewagner mine wobbles about an inch when clicked into place, it's definitely a bit more than normal. Feels like I'll snap the screen off at the slightest movement. Although for the price I got it at, it's hard to complain. I'm just SUPER careful with moving while playing it
i always close all my 3dses with that foam screen protector thingy it came in when it was new. still gets a few marks but its marks you can wipe off with a fiber cloth
The 2ds is actually not cheaper. If I jump on Amazon I can find a new 3ds LL for 250$ that is like brand new and I can find a new 2ds XL that is like brand new for like 330$ or at least that the prices that I've have been able to get.
I've personally found the 3D effect looks the best on the original 3DS even with its limited viewing angle, because of the sharpness and pixel density of the screen. I was disappointed with the 3D effect on every other model and it's clear the 3D effect was designed with the original 3DS's screen in mind. Even the regular New 3DS's only slightly larger screen ruins the effect, which is surprising. You won't hear too many people talk about this, but that's just what I've gathered from testing the different models. Basically, if you really want to experience the 3D effect the way it was meant to be, I'd recommend getting an original 3DS. Otherwise, I'd say go for the New 2DS XL if you just want bigger screens and the "New" hardware.
@@ikewagner I also managed to get pokemon black for 20 bucks a year after I got my 3ds. I guess I managed to get my 3ds before abunch of people got back into them (This was like 2018 btw)
They play all the same games, but the 2DS lacks the 3D visual functionality, so games that really make use of the 3D effects will suffer for it. You can still play them as normal, but for example I found some of the mini challenge things in Mario 3D Land a lot more difficult on the 2DS.
@@ikewagner Got it thanks for the reply. There's a 2DS for sale on a local auction site rn that I'm watching hence the question. You are quite talented, I think you really should focus on producing more structured videos because you might actually succeed on youtube: your voice is quite soothing and there is a big audience for everything regarding 3ds
@@ikewagner there have been videos I’ve seen comparing the two consoles and the 2ds always has this specific type of screen can’t remember the name but on the new 3ds they can either have the same screens as the 2ds or have this other screen which is of better quality or even somehow have both screens at once it was really interesting
@@Dawsonb1999 Oh yeah, I am planning to do another video on that specifically. I didn't realize my black one has an IPS screen when I filmed this originally
You may be comparing an Old 3DS to a New 2DS. The New 3DS and New 2DS are mid-generation hardware refreshes with more powerful processors, etc. and are able to run games that the old 3DS and old 2DS simply can't handle (very helpful for homebrew, plus a small handful of official titles), as well as including a nub that acts as a right analog stick. Plus in the case of the New 3DS, there's also eye tracking which makes the 3D effect much more stable. Another possibility is that you're comparing like-for-like models (Old 2DS vs Old 3DS, or New 2DS vs New 3DS), but on a secondhand market and the 2DS happens to be in better condition than the 3DS. Or maybe they're locked to different regions and the price difference is based on that. Hard to say without seeing specifics.
@@alvallac2171 on Indonesia, there is only secondhand for 2ds and 3ds, and the general price for new 2ds xl is higher than new 3ds xl, I guess because there is few people who buy new 2ds xl when it come out so it become rare in my country
I don't know that it's more fragile necessarily. The New 2DS definitely doesn't show cosmetic wear like the N3DS tends to since it's just molded plastic and doesn't have the shiny coating. I don't know that the N2DS (or the 3DS for that matter) is more or less likely to take functional damage.
The New 2DS XL sucks. And here is why: 1. The handheld is impossible to repair if the handheld is broken. 2. The power button is at the bottom of the handheld, just like on the New 3DS and New 3DS XL. 3. After you attach the New 2DS XL grip add-on, the grip add-on muffles the the New 2DS XL's speakers! 4. The rechargeable battery is a hassle to replace! 5. The stylus for the New 2DS XL is way too small and it does not extend and retract! 6. The New 2DS XL's hinge is crappy and it makes the top screen floppy! And 7. The New 2DS XL's cameras have been relocated.
The hinge is actually floppy on purpose, every 3DS (including the originals) is like that. It's intended to act as a shock absorber, since the primary owners of the console are likely to be young and clumsy, so if you drop it the rounded edges and the travel built into the hinge will instead close the system on impact. The original DS Lite had no travel at all and a lot of them have busted hinges as a result.
The only thing i agree about is the short stylus. Everything is else you said its not even an issue. The controller grip i have makes the audio even better. Sounds like you got a junk one. And who buys a gaming handheld and evens thinks about the cameras lmfao
As somebody who has disassembled and repaired a 2ds XL I'm wondering why you say it's impossible to repair? Maybe if you don't know what you're doing, the ribbon cables are extremely delicate, but it's very doable..... also the power button doesn't matter being on the bottom. It's recessed and your palm can't just turn it off, it also has to be held firmly. Never had an issue..... The hinge is the same as the 3ds again explained to be that way on purpose for durability and yes the stylus sucks but they made extendable ones that work nice
The top screen of the 2DS Xl looks like they just attached an iPhone 8 on its side

It's crazy to think this 2DS model came out just a few months apart from the Switch
The top screen of the 3DS is supposed to be a little wobbly, they're designed that way. It flops about 2-3mm normally. This is also true of the N2DS.
@@ikewagner mine wobbles about an inch when clicked into place, it's definitely a bit more than normal. Feels like I'll snap the screen off at the slightest movement. Although for the price I got it at, it's hard to complain. I'm just SUPER careful with moving while playing it
The 2ds is better if your buying now way less of a chance of being worn out and having a degraded battery and yellow screens
Good instructions. It's easy to follow. Awesome
Instructions??? Are you a bot?
What is that store name you keep mentioning? It sounds like "hakari" but I've never heard of it and can't find it on Google.
Mercari.
i always close all my 3dses with that foam screen protector thingy it came in when it was new. still gets a few marks but its marks you can wipe off with a fiber cloth
If you own a NEW 3DS XL, that's all you'll need. If you don't own either one, either the NEW 3DS XL or NEW 2DS XL are great buys.
I don't think they would paint a black case? Is the finish the same on the surface where the Dpad and buttons are?
The 2ds does have an outer camera on the back of the bottom half
I corrected myself in the description a few months ago.
The 2ds is actually not cheaper. If I jump on Amazon I can find a new 3ds LL for 250$ that is like brand new and I can find a new 2ds XL that is like brand new for like 330$ or at least that the prices that I've have been able to get.
Which theme is used on his New 2DS?
Where can I find protective case like yours? Thanks
I think I just searched something like clear protective New 3DS case on Amazon.
@@ikewagner Thank you.
I have 2 3DS XL and 1 2DS XL. Plus a regular 3DS. They're all hacked lmao
I just bought a 2ds xl with physical copys of pokemon y and ultra sun for $50 last night. Great deal but im sure the guy was a junkie
For that price its a steal! I cant find it in the UK under £150

@@oscarbarron3681 Bless you man, I already see a lot of steals 🤣
I got a red new 3ds xl for 100 dollars used with pokemon mystery dungeon
That's a good deal, they often go for twice that. Nice find.
@@ikewagner I also managed to get pokemon black for 20 bucks a year after I got my 3ds. I guess I managed to get my 3ds before abunch of people got back into them
(This was like 2018 btw)
I still got my 3DS
Personally like the look of the New 2DSXL more.
Why do they close the eshops for the old nintendoes ?
Because it costs money to keep the online servers and payment systems operational for older shops that aren't making a lot of money.
One is amazing and the other is the new 2DS XL
they’re the same minus the 3d effect
both suck
@@AJGAMING004. You're confusing the 3DS/2DS with your mom. 😶
"This one plays 3D this one doesn't"
What does that mean exactly in this instance? Both don't play the entire library of games?
They play all the same games, but the 2DS lacks the 3D visual functionality, so games that really make use of the 3D effects will suffer for it. You can still play them as normal, but for example I found some of the mini challenge things in Mario 3D Land a lot more difficult on the 2DS.
@@ikewagner Got it thanks for the reply. There's a 2DS for sale on a local auction site rn that I'm watching hence the question. DS not so fun to emulate on my older Anbernic so figure I'd get a 3DS/2DS to mod and be set with those two systems. Heard the build quality is "bad" witht he 2DS (?) but am careful with my stuff anyway so this'll be the way to go for me then (2DS looks better imho and the price even more so + thinner; I have small hands). Thanks for the useful info. 👍
You are quite talented, I think you really should focus on producing more structured videos because you might actually succeed on youtube: your voice is quite soothing and there is a big audience for everything regarding 3ds
Nice video but you didn’t explain how the screens are different from each console
How do you mean?
@@ikewagner there have been videos I’ve seen comparing the two consoles and the 2ds always has this specific type of screen can’t remember the name but on the new 3ds they can either have the same screens as the 2ds or have this other screen which is of better quality or even somehow have both screens at once it was really interesting
@@Dawsonb1999 Oh yeah, I am planning to do another video on that specifically. I didn't realize my black one has an IPS screen when I filmed this originally
@@ikewagner oh nice 👍🏼
@@ikewagnerno 2ds xl only comes with tn screens that is just not true Orginal 2ds can have ips
Great video
Weird in my country 3ds is cheaper than 2ds
If you say the new 3dsxl is even more fragile than a new 2ds, I better stick to my launch model. 😅
Did your New 3DS XL come with the original box?
That one did not, I bought it used.
@@ikewagner Also what brand is the clear case you are using?
@@RICKYWIRZ I honestly don't remember, I think I just searched Amazon for a New 3DS protective case. It is quite cheap but it does the job

The 2ds is beautiful but I like the 3d effect, I used to play no more than a hour
I just subcribed! Great content. I do collection videos on my channel and I showcase my collection of 3DS systems.
I went with the New 3DS XL. Just looks better. Best way to get New 3DS XL's, just buy the Japanese variant
The new 3ds xl is 100% way better!
The New 2DS XL sucks. And here is why:
The hinge is the same as the 3ds again explained to be that way on purpose for durability
and yes the stylus sucks but they made extendable ones that work nice
تكنولوجيا ممتاز جدا 👍💕💕💕💕💕💕
What do you mean the 2ds doesn't play 3d games? I thought both of them played the exact same games. Also, you really need a mini tripod.
It doesn't play them in 3D.
Both console plays the same games but the 2ds can't play them with the 3d option (the thing that break your eyes and add depth)
Play fire emblem right now
3DS IS MORE BETTER THAN 2DS. 2DS IS BAD 3DS IS GOOD.

The New 3DS makes the3D effect a lot more stable compared to the old 3DS. It uses eye tracking, so you don't have to be in such a narrow sweet spot.
