alot of that $500-$1000 is being spent on wine and a bougie charcuterie appetizer board.......... generally speaking, Thanksgiving dinner itself isn't all that expensive, no matter how much you want to splurge. His thanksgiving menu wasn't all that different than any other....... turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls, dressing.......(my family would riot, burn the place down if I served them butternut squash on Thanksgiving)...... and he did a pumpkin pie....... so the $35 meal cost about $70 at the grocery store checkout..... btw, if he is truly serving 10, he didn't have enough pie, and he didn't have enough rolls.....
ME TOO holy shit. My grandpa has fed 20+ people for years using techniques like his, and honestly I love her thanksgiving food! It's really good! But I don't think she spends more than $60-$90. I can't help but wonder what a $1000 thanksgiving tastes like! I hope I get to try one day. No offense grandma ♥ I'm craving her cooking now.
Another option for the gravy: Use the drippings from the turkey and giblets with some flour, milk/water to thin out as needed, stirring to desired thickness. But whatever you do. . . Make it your damn self!
Around here, if u spend $30 in a grocery store, you get 412 off a turkey. The eligible turkeys are rather small, so u get a 13-14 lb bird for about $1.50. I helped my friend deliver food boxes to some of her church members, and wound up getting a few cans of pumpkin, a can of mushroom soup, I think 6 cans of evaporated milk, plenty cranberry dressing and even a box of bread cubes for stuffing! Can hardly believe this is stuff others didn't want!
Thank you for this video! I followed many of your tips and tricks for our (Canadian) Thanksgiving recently. My husband's grandfather even said your cranberry sauce recipe resulted in the best cranberry sauce he had ever had!!!
I’ve always made my own cranberry sauce. The stuff in cans is revolting. Canadian here too. Groceries more expensive here, but still, his tips are good. (Maggi Seasoning contains msg if you can’t find the kind he uses.)
I made this amazing dinner yesterday with one exception. I wasn’t able to get my hands on msg and my oven was gonna be preoccupied, so I deep fried my bird with the Bon Appétit spice blend. That cranberry sauce was so simple, yet so elite. Most of my family have never tried butternut squash and we were all pleasantly surprised with how tasty it was! Amazing thanksgiving dinner Joshua Weissman. 10/10 hands down.
Hey josh I wanna say thank you soo very much for showing us a way to have a cheaper thanksgiving. Families out there who can not afford a big thanksgiving due to financial issues and/or the pandemic.
Hey I just wanted to personally thank you for making that Thanksgiving video. This year we did a small 3 person feast and I feel like I got to spoil my family. ❤️
As an Irish woman, (living in Ireland my whole life btw) I have always been fascinated (and a little scared) of the general American type of 'stuffing'. I have never tried it for family, but I did make a version for myself once and, it was very tasty but I couldn't wrap my head around it being 'stuffing'. All I know is, if I served it at Christmas as stuffing and didn't have our traditional sausage meat stuffing on stand by, I would be divorced and disowned by kids by the end of St. Stephen's day 🤷♀️
I will never forget how one year my Grandmother charged all of us $100 for Thanksgiving/Christmas, she had about $700 and the food was disgusting never again grandma
as a swiss, i'd like to give my regular depressing update on the beloved "but cheaper" series: today i checked the turkey prices at the regular supermarket (no fancy butcher, farmers market or even organic premium brand) and the bird alone is is more than 45 USD. I think the butter alone of this recipe would exceed 10 bucks. i mean we do earn more in average than you guys, but not anywhere near that almost 10x factor that you can save on foods. its crazy.
I live in the US and I'm not even sure where he's getting a turkey for $7. I bought one of those little 3 pound frozen turkey cutlets (not sure what it's called?) a couple weeks ago and it still cost me $20.
Spatchcocked the bird this year. AND was the only lady in the Kroger hunting MSG. It was worth being judged by the health food crowd. First juicy turkey I’ve ever had and it only took 2 hours to cook a 21lb bird. Many thanks, my friend.

When I do the gravy what I usually do is make it out of the roasting pan juices, bring that to a high boil, stirring constantly and pepper no salt because the liquid already has the salt the a slurry out of water and corn starch, whisk that constantly until it is thickened. adding more corn starch along the way, then after about 20 mins or so the gravy is finished. Learned it from my uncle RIP.

@Mr. Clean that’s assuming there’s a family in the picture
@@laylas4300 bruh
alot of that $500-$1000 is being spent on wine and a bougie charcuterie appetizer board.......... generally speaking, Thanksgiving dinner itself isn't all that expensive, no matter how much you want to splurge.

Joshua: use MSG

He needs to react watching this
Another option for the gravy: Use the drippings from the turkey and giblets with some flour, milk/water to thin out as needed, stirring to desired thickness.
But whatever you do. . .
Make it your damn self!
Also will save you like $5 of butter.
Thinking the same thing! Plus, weirdly enough, my family adds a cut up hard boiled egg to the gravy
I was like, where's the giblets??
corn starch is another great option if you’re gluten free/run out of flour :)
Thank you! 😁👍

Fuiyoh!
For the ones under a dollar, you typically mark them like "0.10 cents"--that would be one tenth of a cent, not ten cents as I think you mean.
YES! That was bothering me too! Eggs don't cost 0.36 cents, they cost 36 cents, or $0.36
Around here, if u spend $30 in a grocery store, you get 412 off a turkey.

We still cook turkey at Christmas tho, you can do it then
@A. Meowzki there’s small variations (like maybe Texas uses cornbread to make stuffing, etc) but overall it’s pretty uniform throughout the entire US.
I mean in Trinidad, thanksgivings are a different thing. Like a Christian prayer service kinda thing
In Trinidad NM? Why?? I live in NM and we celebrate Thanksgiving lol
I made this amazing dinner yesterday with one exception. I wasn’t able to get my hands on msg and my oven was gonna be preoccupied, so I deep fried my bird with the Bon Appétit spice blend.
Stephen's day 🤷♀️
If it's not in the bird it's called dressing. So you'll be safe.

as a swiss, i'd like to give my regular depressing update on the beloved "but cheaper" series: today i checked the turkey prices at the regular supermarket (no fancy butcher, farmers market or even organic premium brand) and the bird alone is is more than 45 USD. I think the butter alone of this recipe would exceed 10 bucks. i mean we do earn more in average than you guys, but not anywhere near that almost 10x factor that you can save on foods. its crazy.

I had no idea that gravy was a bechamel with stock instead of milk
Yeah probably depends on the gravy but I think that's a pretty common way to make it
It’s actually considered velouté. Bechamel is a roux and cream/dairy and velouté is a roux with a white stock (poultry, veggie, or fish)
@@rhe1672 thank you for your insight 👌🏼✨
When I do the gravy what I usually do is make it out of the roasting pan juices, bring that to a high boil, stirring constantly and pepper no salt because the liquid already has the salt the a slurry out of water and corn starch, whisk that constantly until it is thickened. adding more corn starch along the way, then after about 20 mins or so the gravy is finished. Learned it from my uncle RIP.
