Thanksgiving is different this year, but even if you've never made so much as a single fixin', there's no reason you can't still enjoy a comforting, delicious feast with those you love. It'll just be over webcam is all - which, let's face it, has its own advantages. So throw on your favorite pj's and ready the mute button for when your uncle starts talking politics, because we're exploring a new kind of Thanksgiving in 2020! One that can largely be prepared ahead of time, in about 4 hours all told.

Note: apples turning brown is a result of oxidization, which can indeed be detrimental to your pie - it can give it a slight tinny, artificial apple taste. It won’t ruin it, but it won’t do it any favors either. My bad!

When it comes to dealing with spillage on pies, for things that go into par-baked crusts you can just put the pie crust in and when its done pour it into the open oven. Means you're moving it as little as possible. I would also just put all pie plates on a cookie sheet so when you inevitably boil over at some point you don't have to clean the bottom of the oven.

Oh, hells yeah. This is how people who really love food, and love cooking food, operate in the kitchen. First time here, and I was rivited. This is the way I learned in my mother's kitchen. Just watching her as each holiday and the years rolled by. Each year I'd get a little more involved. Stock for the gravy, then making the gravy, making the stuffing, the taters and all with a zen mindfulness along with such care. This is old school cooking, and it's very much an art form.
