My goodness! The integration of the copper worked beautifully! I want one.
Looks like you have one heck of a performer there! Solid labor
Looks amazing, Erick! Great job!!
Thanks Denis! Thanks for all the work you put into this challenge!
@@theriversexperience9383 it was all fun!!
I've watched almost everybody's gyuto video, I can not wait until I'm producing quality material good enough to join in the upcoming competitions,, keep them coming guys,, I love it!
Beautiful! That would go perfect in my kitchen beside my copper kitchen sink!💗
The pegs on both sides of the can was genius!
Further evolution of your copper maskus great work and good luck in the contest
Dude.... that's gonna be hard to beat. awesome work man. seriously that's gorgeous.
Thank you!
I voted this #1. Followed by Tyrell and then Alee.
Thanks for that!
Killing it! Beyond exceptional...above and beyond!
Thank you!
First time Ive ever seen a mokumegane knife. Great work, great finish. Love it.
That edge retention is amazing
Super 👍 Looks realy comfortable to work with and supersharp 🍀🍀🍀
Thank you, it's very comfortable.
Okay I'm gonna say you made it into the top 3 nice work
Thanks, I hope I do.
Never hand a knife to Jay Neilson. Wait? You did that to your own knife? Best product review ever. Great job.
This one is amazing.
Killer!! The blade is gorgeous. I love the steel rod effect on the copper! Top notch brother.
Awesome job! Thank you for sharing!
Awesome work. You killed it and represented your self to another level
It turned out awesome I love it I’m going to have to try it
New subscriber! The chef's knife challenge brought me here and I'm glad it did. Beautiful knife! Amazing craftsmanship. Good luck with the entry!
I like my celery wafer thin too... awesome work mate 👍🏼👌🏽
Nice job Erick! She’s a cutter, no doubt!
Thank you!
Fanbloodytastic! Really been enjoying this competition and so happy I have discovered your channel. Well done on this knife and good luck
Thank you, glad to have you here!
Right in the first 1-2 minutes this dude makes perfectly clear ... HE IS TOTALLY CRAZY! ... but in a good way 😃🥰
That's what I was thinking when I watched my self make it lol.
That turned out amazing
Outstanding very nicely done wow
Thank you!
Top..I like your blade best so far ... fantastic!
Thanks for the compliment!
What do y'all think about my first actual Chef's knife? This was a blast to make and took me longer than any knife I've ever made. I will be releasing a video on all the great experiences that I had while making this. I learned a lot from this build and I'm thankful for the opportunity to have great conversations with these awesome knife makers.
Make sure to Vote for who you think made the best Gyuto Chef's Knife. Here is the link to Vote:

I won't tell you who I voted for but I will tell you you had the most strenuous test procedures of any of the 10 and you have a right to be proud of how it turned out
As usual absolutely beautiful knife Erick !
Thank you Steven!
Very nice built. Loved the cumai. Awesome blade👍👍🔥🔥🔥
Thank you!
Nice, a kitchen knife worthy of samurai lol
lol, not many Gyuto edge retention test out there. I'm happy with how this turned out.
@@theriversexperience9383 oh ya perfect as always and deadly lol 👌
Down-rite beautiful Erick! Really appreciate the work you put into that awesome knife. You should be very proud!!👍No press involved....old school forging...impressive! Loved the 2X4 edge retention test....classic Rivers Experience!!👍👍
Thanks Danny! It was a lot of work but it was worth it.
That billet......was.....awesome! And that was even before you hand pounded this without a power hammer! Using coffee was pretty interesting, I’ve only seen it used a few times. Amazing job 😁👍🏽
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Less than 2 minutes in, I’m impressed.
This is so beautiful 😍 great work!
Excellent!
Looks amazing awesome job!! 👏
Thank you!
Geez, man.. That is an absolute beauty! The shape, the copper streaks, the handle.. Awesome work!
The only thing I'm not a fan of is the 'hairy celery water' recipe! ;)
Hey, it's perfect for those "Follow me for more recipe's" meme's lol.
After watching all the other builds, i just wish i could have cast a first and second place. If Tyrell had not have done that bolster and Damascus, yours for sure would have won. Fantastic work and i'd definitively be proud if i could achieve a build as good as this one. Really good job and i'd pay good money to own this.
won MY vote i meant to say. 😉
Sweet knife Erick ! It almost didn't fit in your acid tank 😁
Yeah, I ended up switching to a large cup lol. I've done a lot more coffee etching lately.
Erick, this thing is gorgeous! You should be proud. You rep’d yourself and your channel big time here. Congrats to you no matter the outcome. Awesome work 👍 I can’t say enough how cool it’s been to see this channel grow the way it has. Being here since there was only like less than 200 and to see it grow to now over 20k, it’s a testament to your hard work and dedication. Keep doing what you do!
It is definitely a proud moment for me. This is the first real chef's knife that I've made and I'm super happy with how it turned out.
I was going to ask if I could buy this before I saw what it was for. Fantastic looking Gyuto/Bunka :D Checked out the others and this is the only one that got me thinking of 'new knife excuses' for my Mrs so you got my vote!
Man, I was wondering what you were going to try for this competition because boy... that's some seriously hardcore competitors!
Didn't disappoint though, great work
Thank you! I'm happy with how it turned out.
That is an awesome knife Eric.
Thanks!
I read competition so I figured you would make something complex or atleast nice looking! Just kidding, damn that's a sexy knife!
lol, Thank you!
Holy shit... You forged that billet down by hand?! That's some effort. Well done!!! Your damascus is the most interesting for sure and now I want to try that out myself badly!
Huge congrats man, that process must have been tricky to nail down. And beautiful knife! Cheers!
Forging all that was hell for sure. You should definitely try it out, maybe without the hand forging though lol! Your knife was pretty awesome, I really liked the chisel grind with the fuller.
I know you could do it, but I would definitely like to see your version!!
Alright, I’m a sucker for anything cu mai to begin with but this is absolutely stunning wow
Класс! Забавный сплав получился.
10 superb gyuto knives! 🤩
Congratulations to the 10 participants and I hope this is only the first collaboration of a long series. 😍
I was able to enjoy seeing the blades making, from, at first glance, simple to complex and all would have their place in my kitchen ... except, maybe, the Faraway Forge one, my kitchen is too small 🤣
Love your power hammer I have one jest like it
All the knives from everyone in this challenge have been absolutely breathtaking! Including yours! How can one choose just one of these masterpieces?
If I’m not mistaken, this type of layering with steel and copper is called moku gane by the Japanese. Beautiful job. Though the voting is over, I would find it hard to select one knife, because they’re all so well done. Did people vote for aesthetics or total time spent? Some of the Damascus patterns were amazing, like the feather and mosaic. This knife was right up there. Well done sir!
Mokume-gane means wood grained metal. Yes, definitely this technique, but original mokume-gane had no steel in it.
I wouldn’t suggest chopping 2x4’s with your chef knives 😂🤣 very nice edge retention though!! 👍🏻👍🏻 impressive!
Beautiful knife!! I'll say like I have on the others You are all making it hard on us voters lol
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Thank you!
@@theriversexperience9383 You're welcome!!
Best handle yet…that knife is amazing! Did I mention the handle?🐋
Thank you, it is insanely comfortable to hold.
Stunning.
Thank you!
@@theriversexperience9383 You are quite welcome! How does the copper act long term? Does it tarnish? Any problems due to dissimilar metal corrosion between the copper and the steel?
Awesome 🤘
Thanks Dude!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Man that is just, stunning.
I hope I can get a chance to some day make something similar
Thank you!
What the hell, copper infused into steel? Never seen that before. Looks great.
Subscribed!
Thanks, glad to have you here.
Brutal.
Thank you.
i always wonder how hot you need to get it. I assume you get it to forging temps but wouldn't the copper melt since it starts to at 1983 degrees? I always wonder if there would be migration to the edge when it does?
You have to pay a lot of attention during the forging process. If you get lost in thought once, you can melt the copper.
So if anyone one wants to know how long he was working on this.. on the top right is the hammer pendant he made awhile back ( im assuming ) lol
This was over a month process. Definitely the longest build I've worked on. Hand forging this was a pain in the but lol.
It will "keal"
Beautiful knife dude, did I say beautiful? I meant gorgeous
Thank you!
Do you know how expensive lumber is these days? you just ruined a $1000. 2x4! lol Nice knife!
lol, that's the truth! I'm dreading this shop build I'm about to start.
Very nice job.!! You got them for sale??
Was this your submission for the Gyuto Challenge? Definitely a stunning peice of work.
Yes it is! Thank you so much.
Ive watch a couple of your videos, and you do some really great work.! I'm a beginner knife maker myself, and if I could, I'd love to pick your brain and ask a few questions.
no need to buy razor for shaving..😁😁😁..very good knife maker..
1-24 дальше я не выдержал, только не режь руку.
Beautiful knife. How will it hold its edge with copper in the mix.
The edge steel is all high carbon steel. The copper is only on he sides of the bevels.
what types began to be used for this knife
What happened to all the excess metal? Six or more layers went into that. Did I miss something?
The copper melted between the layers of rods and 1084. I used the Rods to create a cloud effect on the blade.
@@theriversexperience9383 Thanks! Stunning blade, by the way.
Pretty sexxy blade you got there!! Off to watch the rest of the competitors!
That thing is sexy dude...
Thanks!
No heat treatment?
I showed the quench towards the middle of the video. Behind the scenes there were 3 normalizing cycles, the quench, and then the tempering cycle.
What kind of drill press do you use?
It's just a harbor freight drill press, its nothing fancy.
Wow thanks for the reply. Must admit, just found your channel the other day and the jealousy is a great motivation. You are an outstanding craftsman and I admire your work.
@@scott090278 thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you like the videos!
They sell carbon fiber with copper strands inside…………
Yup, I've seen those they are pretty cool..............................
