Very nice piece and such an inspiration! I was a little nervous when you started hammering the tang area..😂 Maybe next a double copper layered cumai? The contrast is so nice. Especially with that dark handle material you used. I can't wait for your next video. Keep it up!
@@SRW_Origin.G thanks. I wanted to see how aggressively it could be forged on the vertical, was tricky at that low temperature but got there in the end!
small tip for future videos, either some audio or text explanation of the stages of the process - as well as notation as to what materials are used would be great. (for example we see you dipping and quenching the blade, but what are you dipping/quenching with? what temps are you reaching in the forge etc? general useful info for those of us who might like to give it a try one day)

great great work, if you take the time to make a voiceover explanation i think these videos could get a lot more views, i say that cause i am a bladesmith myself so i was able to understand the spets and the reason behind heach.. but to a beginner this would be helpful, and also be better to share some tips and all. Cheers and congrats, i'm going to make some copper damascus asap :)
Unfortunately havent been lucky enough to catch 1 on Modern Cooking or I would have bought by now... They are beautiful knives and seem to be very much a bargain still!? Great work!
Love this blade!! If I had the dough I'd love to commission you to make one for me in my kitchen! Do a long Damascus kiritsuke! I actually like low layer twist damascus a lot.
Beautiful work and knife! Do you heat the billet to a “brazing” heat versus a steel forge welding heat? It still looked like a yellow forge weld heat in the video.
Fire creek forge did a canister Damascus experiment (can’t remember the video name) and all of the copper dissolved in the can. Basically disappeared. Maybe he had too high of a heat.
It's a drum half full with water the vacuum hose is connected to the side above the water line. The top goes into the drum above the water so all metal falls into the water before it can turn sideways out the side hose
If this 1 had the waves on the blade like the other 1 I saw today (blue or something waves) closer to the middle of the blade & not quite as big... It would be basically exactly how I would want 1 if I had to order, lmao... But this is still sooo dang sweeeeet...

Can anybody tell me what the benefits and drawbacks of using copper in damascus are? In terms of aesthetics its obviously very pretty, but in terms of actual usage does it have any other advantages? Such a malleable metal and all, how does it effect the quality of the blade? Is it harder to maintain or more prone to bends/breaks? How does it effect sharpening and keeping an edge? Anyone with a higher knowledge of material science able to help? Ive seen a few knifemakers put out some really lovely looking blades, but i do wonder how practical they are relative to a more traditional japanese steel makeup.
The copper isn't at the edge so doesn't affect sharpness as the entire edge is carbon steel. Copper is antimicrobial and looks nice to some people, but if there's too much in the blade it will be too ductile as the copper isn't hardened so thin shims are used in the billet
Thanks for watching, comment what video would you like to see next?

How do you heat treat the knife since copper's melting point is so much lower than the steel.
Would love to see some more santoku blades!

This is probably the most beautiful chefs knife I've ever seen. And I mean that seriously and as a bladesmith myself
Thanks much appreciated
Although I'll never be able to afford one of these beauties, at least I'm lucky enough to watch the making of it!
Thanks for watching!
I still can’t believe you’re channel is as under appreciated as it is. Keep up this brilliant work! Very inspirational
Thanks much appreciated, I'll keep the videos coming!
This might be the coolest pattern I've seen on a knife.. Beautiful knife, great work!.
That's impressive. I have seen dissimilar metal welding before via friction welding. but never forge welded. great job and an excellent piece
Thank you very much!
Very nice. I like that you gave it a fuller.
Always great videos to watch! Would love to see you go in depth on your blade grinding. belt progression, finishing techniques. Thanks for sharing!
By far the most under-rated channel, you do truly amazing work
Thanks much appreciated 🙏
I love watching your videos. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for watching, more videos on the way!
This might be the coolest pattern I've seen on a knife.
Thanks much appreciated
An integral chef would be cool to see next :) loved this one
Maybe a Damascus integral?👀
Gorgeous knife. Well done 🍻

Beautiful knife, great work!. Que faca linda! Parabéns! Gostaria muito de uma dessas!.
cool knife
Très bon travail.
Thanks
What an amazing knife, may l ask u what metals did you used?
I think there are three different kinds of metals in the knife
Thanks. It's copper and 52100 carbon steel but they are layered.
Great knife and build
Thanks
Love this blade!! If I had the dough I'd love to commission you to make one for me in my kitchen!
Do a long Damascus kiritsuke! I actually like low layer twist damascus a lot.
Thanks, I was thinking of doing a twist Damascus also!
Que faca linda! Parabéns! Gostaria muito de uma dessas!
Definitely like this, going to try it. Any tips?
Don't forge on the vertical it's prone to splitting!
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Hermoso trabajo, felicitaciones! hacen envíos a Buenos Aires - Argentina? Saludos
Thanks, yes I ship worldwide
Beautiful work and knife! Do you heat the billet to a “brazing” heat versus a steel forge welding heat? It still looked like a yellow forge weld heat in the video.
Thanks. Yes the camera makes it look like a yellow heat but it's in the red orange range, the copper is quick to melt beyond that!
Beautiful knife. Was wondering if anyone has tried making canister damascus using steel and copper?
Not sure, could be a tricky one
Fire creek forge did a canister Damascus experiment (can’t remember the video name) and all of the copper dissolved in the can. Basically disappeared. Maybe he had too high of a heat.
Damn that s grind be cleaner than a hospital!
Thanks!
Is that a metal shaving catchall for your belt sander? I’ve been trying to find something I like but haven’t yet
It's a drum half full with water the vacuum hose is connected to the side above the water line. The top goes into the drum above the water so all metal falls into the water before it can turn sideways out the side hose
Cool work! Out of curiousity: why the cold deform after annealing?
Thanks, It removes the thick forge scale stuck to the blade
@@lewgriffinknives216 Not worried about cracks?
But yo your knifes are 🔥 bro
What was the purpose of putting the knife in the kiln the first time and then hammering it?
Softening the steel to prevent cracking and hammering to remove thick forge scale as it's very hard on abrasives
What did you dip your billet in before forge welding?
Diesel
Did you weld steel on the sides of the billet as well?
Yes 52100 on the sides
What is the brown powder your mixing with water
Instant coffee
A beauty 😌😍🤩💪🤝🤝🤝
Can I ask how long you left in the coffee for the etch and did you do stages of it
Approximately 8 hours
Is there an issue with different metals being welded together?
As long as they are both fully bonded during forge welding I have not noticed any
Interesting
I want one of them !!!!
It´s there a way to get one of those in Mexico ??
I ship worldwide!
Mais um escrito direto do brasil
Thanks
That thing's, too tuff lookin'.
If this 1 had the waves on the blade like the other 1 I saw today (blue or something waves) closer to the middle of the blade & not quite as big...
It would be basically exactly how I would want 1 if I had to order, lmao...
But this is still sooo dang sweeeeet...
I appreciate the craftsmanship but I'd never buy one because I'd be afraid to damage it.
Мастер, в чем вы выдерживали клинок? Если не секрет конечно. Когда чернили клинок?
Instant coffee for blackening the blade
Sensacional 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
🙏
is it flexible? or the strength is not that good?
Nice design though.
Not flexible the carbon steel is hardened
@@lewgriffinknives216 I mean does it bend back to its original form when bent?
How long did it take to make this knife?
No idea exactly as I'm always working on multiple but more than a few days
Is that just a stick welder?
Yes it is
black sharp & handsome ...
I comment just to help the channel
It definitely does, thanks much appreciated!
Красивый. Но насколько заточка выдержит?
It's hardened carbon steel so much longer than a cheap knife but depends on how much it is used
I want to make knives someday ❤any guidance?
Always look to improve your skills and never give up despite any failures
Хорошая работа. Какая марка стали?
Thanks, 52100 carbon steel

Its that coffee ?
It is!
Что за фишка с растворимым кофе, как это работает?
It reacts with carbon steel to darken it
How much for that knife......I want one

Bonjour, tu fais un travail extraordinaire 👍 on peut acheter tes couteaux ? car je suis intéressé !!

Do you sell this knife?
I do, check out the links in description
and so I did not understand how such a complex pattern of copper is achieved ...
With the round press dies and by grinding an s-grind hollow into the blade it reveals more copper
@@lewgriffinknives216 Thank you. This is a very cool job.
Copper knife ???? Doesn’t make the blade soft ?
The edge is high carbon steel so will have great performance

чем делали воронение для такого черного цвета?
Acid etching and coffee darkening
