- Knife Making | The Karnivore - Making a BBQ Knife Styled After a K-Tip Gyuto
In this video I make a large BBQ knife styled after a K-tip Gyuto. I used a leaf spring that I assume is 5160 spring steel. The handle is made of monkeypod wood. I didn’t have spacer material thick enough for what I wanted, so I experimented with using leftover Kydex as a spacer. Step by step knife making process.

That is absolutely gorgeous. As a chef for 19 years I really appreciate seeing tools made that I would use on a daily basis. I would love to have that knife.
@@Facetiously.Esoteric Could just be for a collection.
@kevinarnold4795 I was responding to the OP, he said he would like it for daily use. That's a bad idea for a professional chef. He might as well buy a white handle Dexter Russell sani-safe, well this will hold an edge better than that... lol
@@Facetiously.Esoteric Dexter might be good for a line cook....but that edge will never be as sharp and much harder to clean up when it dulls. So no....crap cheap knives are not good...beyond lasting a long time. Which is fine if that is all you want. But you can get that from any cheap blade. And with Dexter, you really need to reset the bevel to be worth a crap to begin with.

You should learn to read...
@@Facetiously.Esoteric Dexter Russel, Mercer, et al. are great for beginner cooks. I highly recommend them for people with little to no skill, who are just starting out but some of us are way beyond that, we produce food that is elevated and want to work with tools that reflect that. This knife is a robust slicer and it is a work of art. I, like @andresapodaca8853, would love to have one. You clearly just don't have the knowledge and/or skill and/or experience to be speaking to this issue, so go somewhere else to criticize someone who is complimenting the maker, maybe 4chan or something?
Never have I ever seen a knife with this much character. The rough on the blade is perfect. The work on the handle is impeccable. It would be very fair to call this a master piece and a power object. Really amazing.
Absolutely gorgeous work! Many thanks! ❤️
The best I’ve seen in the last few years.
A very good example of beauty in simplicity. ❤
Finally someone did something different. I love it.
Your work and videography is just a pleasure to watch. I am very grateful you gave such detail in every step. This something I have a serious desire to attempt. I think your video did the job and pushed me over the edge.... Thank you. Cheers

What really impresses me is the precision with which you can sand such a large sloping surface freehand and without any angle help. Amazing work and beautiful knife.
I love the look of lately seeing thick geometric handled Kiritsuke and bunkas.
I really want one. But the ones I keep seeing are in the thousands.

A brisket that good deserves to be cut with a knife that looks even better!
Love that
It's good to see we still have craftsmen who can produce this level of work by hand
Thanks, that means a lot!
your welcome@@angrypineappleknives
What kind of job? cut a knife out of a spring? completely without forging, without arranging different steels?
O-Lord, he even hardened the entire knife, although the spine should be left softer and the heat increased for the blade.
If someone cannot cut a knife from a sheet of steel, then I don’t know what’s easier.
@@Badula_n_his_brotherYou were so close to looking like you kind of maybe knew something about knife making.
@@Badula_n_his_brother У меня брат изготаливат ножи тридцать лет, при этом и кует и точит из готовых полос стали, выточить и изготовить ручку собрав всё в НОЖ не так то просто как кажется на видео.
That thing is gorgeous!
Blacksmiths are actually happy/excited when it’s time to have their leaf springs changed on their vehicles lmao. Nice knife bro.
Ive seen a lot of knife makers but your channel is different. Very smart and well executed.

Beautiful piece
So eine perfekte Arbeit habe ich schon lange nicht mehr gesehen. Super gut gemacht 👏👏👏
Take a lot at Kyle Royer's knives and swords!! Master knife maker who is doing museum quality knives to include some of most functional and beautiful chef knives I've ever seen!! Functional, pattern welded blades with perfect grinds and some times include gems, gold and exotic woods for the handles. Hit fitment and bolsters literally melt into the handle and have absolutely no visible gaps in the connection of the handle, bolster and mechanical pins used to secure the wood handle to the tang of the knife!!! He is an absolute master of fine cutlery!!!
I love the way the handel looks with it. You did a great work.👍👍
Thanks!!!
