In this video, I play a blitz game against twitch subscriber psilo_simon (1545) on lichess.org. I encounter the aggressive, but dubious 4...Qh4?! variation of the Scotch Opening. While this opening can be quite annoying if white is unprepared, I was thankfully knowledgeable of the refutation. The game features a nifty trap where white wins material in less than 10 moves. To put icing on the cake, my opponent got JEBAITED shortly into the middlegame.

It was a pleasure to be absolutely crushed in this game. Thanks Eric!
Also I promise I had your stream muted, and was just playing badly...
@@psilosimon7911 I believe you
btw why would you play that? Not just against Eric but as an opening in general, What are great threats if white didn't play the right set of moves? (I'm not really that good at chess, guess you could say i'm still learning lol.)
@@nishiharach. honestly it depends on your play style and the time control - I'm a fairly agressive blitz player (rated about 1900 on chess.com) and a lot of the time threats are very useful to eat up your opponent's time, and there's always the possibility they won't find the right move. It's not without its risks though, so if you're planning on playing an agressive gambit you really need to know how to get to a solid position if they refute it correctly. Playing aggressively is definitely a lot of fun though :)
@@nishiharach. In the games I've played with it, I haven't ever seen this refutation and the most common line I come across after 4...Qh4 is 5. Nxc6 Qxe4+ 6. Qe2 Qxe2+ 7. Bxe2 dxc6, which is a middle/endgame position where black is a pawn up with decent position. There are also a lot of ways that white can play moves that look natural but are actually blunders. Definitely not a solid opening, but works if your opponent doesn't know the refutation.
When Eric says "oh no, my rook" you know it's time to resign
ikr lmao
"Dah"
“call an ambulance, call an ambulance. BUT NOT FOR ME!”
When he says “ Oh no “ in general actually
@@griffinstaats1209 😂
Wow, he took that photo himself? Impressive
Right? I was wondering if it was stock footage or something, but I didn't think you would be able to find a picture like that online.
He is an amateur photographer. He showed his albums couple days ago.
He said in the description that it took him 100+ tries
Paul Morphy you gotta love that he went thru the trouble of 100+ tries just for a thumbnail 😂
He's a photographer and graphic designer when he's not playing chess lol.
His acting is getting better.
Obviously the compensation is that the banana throwing suffers ....
😂😂😂 oh no my rook with little smile
“It’s a sad banana I traumatized it earlier”
we all know why the banana is that brown and traumatized lmfao
The fruits, legumes and vegetables activists (FLAVA) should be all over this. 😁
I thought that was a professional stock photo when I saw the thumbnail and thought to myself "wow you really can find anything on stock sites" holy shit. Nice one man. You should definitely get prints of that pic, its really good.
Seconded
I made it my background on Lichess. Looks dope
imagine how it looks without compression
@@redplanet2720 how'd you get the image?
Why is there a banana knocking the king over? I don’t fucking know but I’m here for it
7:36
"... but I win a queen, jebaited. " I actually laughed so hard XDD
Asking alexa what jebaited mean, then proceed to jebait the enemy lol
Zeveliano Zidane Barack Alexa got jebaited
LOL
His acting is so good, he actually fooled me
That was great
Omg samee wtf I completely didn't see that so dirtyyyy
Whenever Eric starts his statement with " Oh, no my...", I will know something amazing is coming ahead. Unless I'm playing with him. Then, press the resign button.
Unless he’s playing against GMs, that means he’s really dropping the piece and is gonna lose the game.
@@vit9480 hardly ever happens. hahah
I'm almost to the point of pausing the video immediately upon hearing that phrase, seeing if I can even fathom what's about to happen.
@@LFSPharaoh Everyone is just as clueless as you are! Haha. More than moving the piece, it's the phrase that grabs my attention! Love Eric!
@@vit9480 Well, he doesn't normally drop pieces when playing against GM's. Not in serious games, anyway.
"There is so much beauty in Black's sadness" Eric 2020
Eric was evidently a Goth when he was younger. I can just imagine him in Goth makeup.
racis!!!t!!!
Eric Rosen white supremacist confirmed?
Inb4 eric gets cancelled lel
Can't tell if sadist or just poet
When a dubious opening meets a dubious force, something is bound to fail.
I actually stared at the bannana thumbnail for like 10 minutes trying to figure out where u got that from but u actually took it your self, I'm amazed.
Stock images have so many weird pictures, but this could possibly be too weird - even for them.
Btw: it's fun to just look at weird stock photos, and their word titles.
I thought it was editing... but it was an actual Photo of Banana striking the King... Great capture! (pun intended)
7:40 the most smug sip of tea I've ever seen
You took that photo yourself?! I thought you just got really lucky that the *perfect* stock photo existed haha.
You watch chess videos?
That's not James...
@@calebtaylor4153 🤔
@@KieranDix0n it’s not James, James is “theodd1sout” on UA-cam not “TimTom”
I can’t believe you watch chess. Cool.
Happy to have seen the trap where you won the queen. The "Oh no, my rook!" Got my senses on alert lol
Lol
I’m imagining Eric throwing a banana at a king on a chess board and this thought brings me immense joy xD
Also- fun game!
That was the best 'Oh no, my rook!' Ever.
"It's a sad banana. I traumatized it earlier. It's brown."
Ok then...
The STORYTELLING accompanying the usual "oh no, my piece!" is the golden touch
Wow didn't know Eric was such a skilled photographer.
He does actually have a nice Instagram account!
Even though I saw that queen trap in advance, Eric’s acting really lead me to believe that he was blundering a rook for a second
Seeing Ba3 at 7:40 before it was played was one of the most satisfying feelings I've ever felt watching an Eric Rosen video
Eric, you are a cheeky son of a gun... "Oh no my rook!" - "oh no, my pawn" - "oh no I did it again".
Laughed my butt off at that.
The jebaited moment was absolutely hilarious
"Oh no my (piece)" is eric-rosen-speak for "you're screwed".
When he lost his rook I thought he was being serious and blundered but no I am wrong again holy this human is insane
Eric, an IM in chess, and a GM in photography.
Love your videos. Consistently awesome chess and commentary. Thanks for the content!
I'm waiting for the day when Eric goes "Oh no, my king!"
Amd then calmly parries a check with a checkmate.
Youre acting made his video great Eric and i love the community you have with the commentary its great ill be sure to go to one of your steams some day. Thanks for the videos Eric!
Quote " there is so much beauty in black's sadness " lol ..Priceless ;)
This channel deserves more views and more subs. Love to watch your videos.
I love how like neat and clean the videos are and how everything is labeled. Makes my ocd happy hahaha!
Absolutely incredible video yet again Eric, didn't know you took that fantastic photo yourself. Pretty please upload more games to youtube as i dont have much time to watch live. :)
7:34.. you got me there
So cool you take photos for your own thumbnails, I was sure it was a photoshop job when I first saw the video posted. Very impressive, love your content
"In general you should really only play this line against newbs..."
Dang, must be why people are always using it on me.
I’m glad I learned this variation the easy way
King gets it, with the flying yellow banana boomerang attack.
7:00, it was at this moment he discovered the queen trap
You are really an amazing player. Keep up the good work
that's exactly the video I needed in my progression in chess, thanks
Amazing content! You're definitely my favorite chess gm.
That banana thumbnail is actually beautiful, I thought it was something you found online when I first saw it. Rosen a man of many skills
The thumbnail force is strong with this one
I want a compilation of Eric saying "oh no my...." makes my day every time !
Your demeanor is very Bob Ross like. Very mellow but full of substance. 'preciate you.
That thumbnail is soo good !! i rmb wonderin where you got it from. I thought it must’ve been a stock pic but it was really quite specific for a stock pic lol.
“Oh no, my rook!”
Every time Eric speaks, I feel so at ease, despite him sounding like the world's biggest memer. I want like a compilation of the things Eric Rosen says
"There's so much beauty in Black's sadness." Some of your lines are funnier the second time round when I don't have the distraction of chat.
The eminently quotable Eric Rosen. I don't know where he finds these phrases
"There's so much beauty in black's sadness"
Marvellous
Such a good thumbnail "Banana one", I noticed it immediately before you started talking about it. But it was on another video I think.
I'm a very low rated player and I have fall for this so many times, but thanks to trick openings like this I've learned how to counter a couple of them.
It's absolutely satisfactory when the opponent stops autopiloting and the clock ticks like 1 or 2 minutes and you imagine the face they are doing now.
Off course I'm still falling to some gambits when I'm not paying enough attention.
Pretty famous game featuring Qh4 in the scotch NN, H. Bird, England 1850 Black loses the rook to Nc7 like Eric goes for here, black plays Kd8, and brings his remaining rook to e8, and puts a knight on e4
I was so engrossed, I ended up getting jebaited by that. Well done Eric.
This is the quality content im here for
Cannot describe the absolute based feeling of watching an Eric video with my coffee in the morning
Tom Dilley I found that watching him increases my chess quality by 15% just by emulating his calm thinking patterns
Robert Olin having seen your profile pic I need to add ‘while listening to Bach’ on my original comment
“I have a banana. It’s a sad banana. I traumatized it earlier.” Lmaoooo
"It's a sad banana, I traumatized it earlier."
Jeez, Eric.
Hey that photo is actually really good!!
The banana and king thumbnail was a seriously good picture btw
Definitely want to see a video on the Scotch!
I’ll buy that banana poster as soon as you print it. I love that.
When Eric asked Alexa to define jebaited, my own Alexa activated out of her long slumber to define "jaded," which in fact was an experience of being jebaited by a jaded Alexa.
That is a great photo of the banana and the king...
What absolutely hilarious is i’m new to chess and literally earlier someone did this line on me :( Very educational thank you❤️
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL
I honestly thought the banana picture was CG. It looks great.
Great trap! But I'm wondering at 6:43 if there is Nb4 for blackto at least regain a quality
That’s an incredible shot
"I kept throwing banana at the king"
-Eric Rosen, 2020
I dream of one day mastering the art of knowing exactly when Eric’s “oh no” is irony and when not
"Don't get jebaited." Sage advice near the end of this video.
He said he “traumatized” the banana, and I thought he meant something else
If that were a poster, I would buy it
7:26 ya boy had me fooled there for a second. I was picturing bishop a3 check first, but he does what looks very risky at first, and ends up easily winning a queen in the end.... this is why he's an IM, and "I M" not lol
As soon as he pointed out his rook was gonna get taken. I knew he would sac it for the queen
7:14
Call an ambulance! Call an ambulance!!
But not for mey
He pulled a sneaky on us all 😂😂😂
Nice. I wish I could see ahead that many moves to take the queen.
Oh no, my rook ! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 that was so funny.
If that photo of the banana was a poster i’d totally buy it, lowkey
He drank from the cup like he was drinking salty tears of 1000 opponents
This guy plays blitz chess while commentating and sipping coffee and just crushing opponents. Damn.
Eric: oh no, my piece
Me: oh hell no
yes I want the banana king poster Eric!
Eric always activate my Alexa when I’m watching at 2 am with people sleeping
Love the banana canvas. If only I had money to spend on things rn 😂
"oh no, my rook", call an ambulance, but not for me!
The jebaited gambit was beautiful
If i had a dollar for every time Eric says "dubious". It'd make a good drinking game
Such a great actor
Love the scotch. It would be cool if you food an openings explained video on it
I think in a lot of these Eric knows the opponent might be watching his streams and he takes a fun edge out of it
In case some of y'all are wondering, if black plays 7... Ba5 I am pretty sure white can just take the pawn on c7 anyway, because the bishop is overloaded (has to keep the knight on c3 pinned that is attacking the black queen)
This was so incredibly youtube worthy!
I need the banana picture :) Is there any way, you can upload it somewhere?
ripe bannana, some oats maybe, peanuts, strawberries(frozen=awesome) and protein powder but its good(maybe better)without it. Its an awesome recipe i found as a weight gainer shake but thats really only if you add protein powder.
That was hilarious Eric
