Request: I would love to see a separate short YT video explaining the whole "type 1 undefended" (or whatever that concept is called). I saw it explained once on twitch, but I didn't quite grasp it Great videos.....I look forward to watching these when they pop up
I think the idea is a type 1 undefended piece is the most basic idea of a hanging piece- when your opponent places a piece on a square you already control, or moves a defender away from a piece you are attacking. In either case it allows you to win the piece for free. Type 2 is slightly more advanced, where the piece in question appears safe but is actually vulnerable to a tactical series of moves, such as “removing the defender with check” or “discovered attack.” Im sure there are several other examples that a type 2 undefended piece can come about through but yeah that probably would make a good short tactical awareness video
Basically take a mental note if some piece is protected by queen or king because they aren't very good at protecting so you can look for tactics, ofcourse it would depend on position if tactics are possible
@@itsmeBP Thanks....that makes a lot of sense. I think in these games it's hard for me to wrap my head around the definition because I'm busy thinking about several other things at the same time. And I'm not very good at this chess thing, so that doesn't help! Appreciate the explanation!
@@itsmeBP Undefended pieces are not necessarily hanging ones. If I understood Danya's explanation correctly, a type 1 undefended piece is simply one that isn't defended by any other pawn or piece. It could become the target of a tactic, for example, a fork. A type 2 undefended piece is one that is defended as many times as it's attacked. So, for example, if your queen is putting pressure on a rook, and that rook is only defended once by, say, a knight, it is still mathematically undefended. If you chase the knight away, the rook is now hanging. Tactics involving type 2 undefended pieces are harder to spot, so that's why it's important to have this concept of a piece being undefended even if it is technically defended as many times as it's being attacked.

Never knew this was a mainline but I really liked playing this c3 line against Bc5 and Qf6. I used to do this with opposite colors solidifying d4 or in my case d5 a lot, played a4/a5, Na6-c7 and so on. Rock solid and good potential to expand on the queenside and wondering what the hell that queen is doing on f6 or f3. The opponent misplayed this horribly obviously but the line is really nice.

In the chess game which probably made a lot of us check out Naroditsky's channel white took the Knight on c6 instead of developing Bishop to e3 and the rest is history
at this time stamp 10:30 wouldnt it be a better play to go RD1 take, he responds with QD1 take, then BF1 take, QF1 take, Qe3+, either king moves back or offers a queen trade, either one you take the C3 pawn ?
6:34 So why not Qh4+ before Qg5? Doesn't it create more weaknesses (undefended bishop and h3 for our bishop if needed and we still have the same concept next move?
In my opinion it is not that simple, since after g3 and Qg5, white can castle and then put his bishop back on g2. From there it is not such a bad piece, a bit passive but it defends the King well and supports the pawn on e4. Whereas, on f3 it kind of clogs the position, the Knight, Queen and rook cannot access the f3 square and long-term it may be a target for tactics since the g2 pawn is pinned.
After fxe3 can you play Qh4+ first? if the king moves we just take back the knight and have forced his king to move for free and if g3 can play Qe4 hitting the rook
