    I used to play this line for so long (ELO 1800) and I have to say it's sooo beautiful in case you know the theory and you basically crush everyone below 1700 easily, it's not even hard. I never lost a tournament blitz or rapid game using this line and only lost once in classical. Also most opponents don't know the main line. In 3 years of playing this opening I only got the Nb4 line once.
    The only problem is that you have to learn tons of theory as this is one of the Gambits where both sides are not allowed to make a single mistake.
    Actually there is another nice positional sac on move 7: d6 cxd6 and 8. Nxd4 is sharpening the game even more. For example Black has to watch out, White doesn't get a Knight on d6 after 9. Nb5
    I can really recommend playing this against weaker opponents, it's very enjoyable.

    “pwn” grew in popularity from the typo of “own”. I first heard this in the early 2000s on FPS video games. People would regularly exclaim that someone “got owned.” I’m assuming someone made a typo and then the new term was embraced.

    • @scannedforcontent
      @scannedforcontent 5 років тому +4

      In general chess teaching, the "open games" are recommended for beginners to start with (1.e4 e5). The reason is, that the positions that arise are rich in tactical motifs and involve playing with your minor pieces a lot on a relatively open board. Of course if you play 1.e4 you will have to look into all the answers to this move (Half open: sicilian. Counter attacks: scandinavian, alekhine. Postponed center attacks: french, caro-kann. Hypermodern defences: pirc, modern, sniper etc)
      The reason why 1.e4 leads to open positions is, that the e-pawn is not defended by your queen (such as the d-pawn) so it is easier to open the game later with d4 (supported by your queen).
      If you play d4 first, it is much harder to realize the move e2-e4 afterwards, because your opponent will most likely play for control of the e4 square (with moves like 1. ..d5 or 1 ..Nf6). That's the reason why 1.d4 leads to closed positions, which involve a deeper positional understanding (which is considered more difficult in the beginning).

    • @vogel2499

    • @pedrofrias4749
      @pedrofrias4749 5 років тому

      I recommend using the four knights opening, and in the other lines: the exchange variation of the caro-kann, the exchange variation of the French (even though is consider to be quite drawn), for the modern and the Pirc is generally good to be aggressive and exchange the light square Bishop, against the Sicilian defence the Grand Prix attack, and for the Scandinavian try to increment the advantage in development. The theory is something you should learn once you are in a more advanced level, now you and me (as beginners) should focus on understanding ideas. The ideas can be applied at every opening you are playing, so to accomplish that we have to train our mind to think logically excellent.

    Pown is a phrase we used in early 2000's is to 'professionally own' your opponent.. like in the game we just watched ie.: Eric just powned his opponent!. Congrats. The guy he was referring to had pwn in his name so probably closer to poon factory (that one you will have to look up yourself haha), but the website he referred to have i been powned I'm assuming.

    "b6 was probably the worst move in that position" rg8 would like to know your location
    Edit: ok ok b6 blocks qb6, didn't see that move haha, that comment was half a year ago and I was a weaker player then =]

      No because Qb6 would be possible to defend the mate

    At 3:59 into this video take notice of your position. Black can respond P-f6 threatening white's queen. If white moves h5 for check then black moves P-g6 and white's queen is no longer a threat. It seems the best you will get is a piece either a knight or bishop but no checkmate at this point. Check out my analysis.

      Brother Carlton if black moved his pawn to f6 then bishop goes to f7 And its a mate, exactly what happened in the game

    3:20 Just wondering if the opponent plays f6 how would you continue the attack, if at all? Thank you to anyone who responds

      Maybe just let your queen move backwards to e3 or e4 no need to rush you held captive his knight and ahead of development, white should be winning here

      Maybe Ng5? If black takes queen white will do checkmate... And if black takes knight white can take black knight using pawn.
