Hyaluronic Acid Serum Benefits
Hyaluronic acid is one of the simplest ways to hydrate the skin to keep it plump, healthy, and provide a strong skin barrier. Its one of my favorite ingredients because its a humectant that actually retains moisture and it is capable of binding over one thousand times its own weight in water. As we age, the production of our own hyaluronic acid (along with collagen and elastin) decreases, making our skin lose volume, hydration, and plumpness. So to combat this and provide a quick fix, hyaluronic acid steps in to save the day.
Which Hyaluronic Serum is Best. Sodium hyaluronate vs hyaluronic acid.
These two use both sodium hyaluronate as its hyaluronic acid, this is because it may have a smaller molecular size, which allows it to penetrate the skin better. In skincare, a good rule of thumb is: the lower the weight of the ingredient, the more its able to enter the skin. This is known as the 500 Dalton rule, anything smaller than 500 Daltons, the product can easily penetrate through the skin's surface.
Vichy Mineral 89 How to Use
Step 1: Cleanse face with a gentle cleanser.
Step 2: Dispense two pumps per application.
Step 3: Apply it on the forehead, cheeks and chin and using your hands to smooth across the face.
Step 4: You can then follow it with your usual serum, moisturizer and broad-spectrum sunscreen.
Vichy Mineral 89 Review
The 89% concentration of Vichy Volcanic Water, is where Minéral 89 gets its name. The volcanic water in this serum, which btw comes from the depths of French volcanoes, is formulated to strengthen your skin's natural defenses against internal and external exposures which can cause up to 80% of skin aging. In the volcanic water: there are also 15 essential minerals, Calcium (Ca), Iron (Fe), Manganese (Mn), Potassium (K) to name a few.
There are 3 things that immediately stood out to me and hopefully can help you in the decision process. The first is that it has a total of 11 ingredients.
Vichy Mineral 89 fragrance free
It contains no fragrance. If you are someone who likes to know what you put on your face, then youll appreciate that they dont use fragrance.
Vichy Mineral 89 alcohol
There is no denatured alcohol. Fatty alcohols like stearyl alchol, have emollient and occlusive characteristics, but on the other hand denatured alcohol can be very drying if it's in the first few ingredients on an ingredient list. Some experts even think that regular exposure to alcohol damages the skin barrier and causes inflammation, but that is still debated and for another discussion.
La Roche Posay Hyalu B5 How to Use
Step 1: Cleanse face with a gentle cleanser.
Step 2: Fill dropper with serum and apply 3-4 drops in the morning and/or evening on face and neck.
Step 3: Apply Moisturizer.
Step 4: Use in association with SPF protection.
La Roche Posay Hyalu B5 Serum Review
That it contains the ingredient madecassoside: it is rich in amino acids, beta carotene, fatty acids, and phytochemicals, and Lab studies suggest that madecassoside can increase the skin's natural hyaluronic acid production, so I found that as a unique way to work with the skins natural processes instead of just finding a quick fix to hydation issues.
La Roche Posay B5
It contains vitamin B5 otherwise known as panthenol, which soothes red skin that is inflamed.
La Roche Posay Tocopherol
It includes tocopherol, which is Vitamin E's antioxidant power that can lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Thats why with this serum, some have reported that their skin feels a lot firmer and more supple after a few applications.
Hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid vs sodium hyaluronate
It contain hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid as well. Which is even a lower molecular weight hyaluronic acid, think of it as a super chopped up version that is ultra small.

I’ve used Vichy for a year. I love it. I’ve never felt it as sticky on my aging skin. Always wondered about the Posay.

I switched from Vichy to La Roche Posay after this video. That turned out to be a big mistake.
It was fine when I started using it in the autumn, but I didn't know anything about denatured alcohol (which is the 3rd ingredient in the B5 serum) and it turns out my atopic dermatitis combined with the winter air allowed it *wreck* my skin barrier.
I've now gone back to Vichy and the la Roche posay balm. Was hoping to combine two products into one (plus I just don't like the way the balm sits on the skin), but alas it was not meant to be.

Fantastic review. Thank you 🙏🏼 And La Roche Posay, PLEASE GET RID OF FRAGRANCE from your Hyaluronic acid!!!! It’s still a wonderful product, but my only beef with it is the subtle fragrance. It doesn’t smell good enough to be there. It smells more sugary than it does luxurious.

I have intolerant skin and the LRP is my go to serum. I just love it. I did try the Vichy one but I didn’t like it. I’ve found all Vichy products I’ve tried not suitable or my skin.
I ran into major barrier skin issue this winter I choose La Roche Posey products and worked miracles on my damaged skin barrier! Harulonic acid and mineral wouldn’t have done as good in my opinion LRP formulation is higher graded in my opinion!
The LRP also has alcohol denat as one of the primary ingredients.

As a retired Esthetician I use hydraulic fluid adding drops of water will help skin & gel will be easier when applying on face, it will dry quickly & skin absorbs like a charm. ✌️

Hello Dr. Arsalan. If I use Hyaluronic acid, do I still need to use a cream moisturizer on top?? Or can I just use the hyaluronic acid alone as moisturizer? In a nutshell, do I need to use both? It's way better if you use a moisturizer after to seal in the hydration and moisture and will make it last way longer

What serums are good for acne sensitive skin
Serums that may alleviate acne would contain retinol, niacinamide, vitamin C, salicylic acid, and benzoyl peroxide. In any case, the serums mentioned can be used in acne prone skin.
