Just switched it out 2 days ago, I was able to put together a routine without any except for my 2x a week sketchy overpriced retinol (good for starting i suppose)...am using marshmallow primer as moisturizer, and realizing I may need to cut back on glycerin too, but skin is reacting well... Thank you so much, this was so helpful, and I absolutely was right that my face was "collapsing" later in the day. Planning to add some back in, but not until i do a high humidity humectant + occlusive mask nightly for a week... You'd hate how much DIYing I do with your info tho 😉

Cassandra Bankson hi I'm Loretta De Los Rios using Frank's account to make this comment with his permission. I have been watching Sheerene Idris for a couple years( I believe the same amount of time I have watch you) now maybe 3( three)years. I agree with most of the info she recommends.
Have you checked out her pillow talk product she just launch?
Let me recommend a product for you! I'm sure you have tried a %100 Argan oil! But I'm sure you haven't tried the 100% Argan oil from Skin Deva! Its awesone! Truly legitimate.. I didnt hear you say herein this video that you have used a product on your facial skin like a serum with HA which I'm sure you have used one. And I didnt hear you say you have used a oil on top of it! ( Product with HA)
I use the Skin Deva Argan oil on top of my vitamin C that contains HA! Ferulic Acid and Vitamin E from Skin Deva ! Its 's truly awesome. I use other serums from them too. And top it off with this great oil
I have hypersensitive ,sensitive, normal, mild acne prone, semi dry skin. Try it! & let me know ok? Ok Thank you.🤲🙏⚘⚘👋

I would never give up a separate hyaluronic acid product and I live in Arizona (just moisturize and you'll be fine). The main reason is something I learned from Dr. Dray actually. It helps other products absorb! I have an issue with absorption and I use it on top of my other potions usually. Not even sticky this way. And what's this about the shelf life? Do we need it to be more than 8 hours? I highly doubt that. And how long is the shelf life on other actives such as peptides per se? Would love to hear more about that. In the meantime, never dis hyaluronic acid!

Dr Dray loves HA on damp skin, it helps the absorption of other products and reinforces your moisturiser. Also, the goddess that is the Lab Muffin, a cosmetic chemist PhD, completely disputes the 'thesis' that HA drinks up moisture from the deeper layers of the skin.

For me, my skin _thrives_ with HA. The Hada Labo HA toners totally revolutionized my skin in the best way possible! I personally see an immediate difference when I use HA products (especially the Hada Labo lotions) whether I'm in a dry climate or a humid climate...but it may be due to my skin being both dehydrated and on the drier side. My skin drinks up HA and gets super plump and dewy. Everyone's skin type is different though, my friend's skin has no reaction to HA which really goes to show you got to customize things for your own skin. Appreciate the video Casandra! I have combination skin and was looking for a moisturizer that wouldn't clog my pores, but still, give me the necessary moisture. Hyaluronic Acid on damp skin, with the Inky List Omega Water Cream, literally saves my skin barrier. One of the lines is barely visible now, and the other is only a little more visible. I definitely think HA as a dedicated step is a winner for me. It is in some of my other products, but I see a real difference with having an HA serum added to my routine. I absolutely love the channel and have learned a lot from you. I love HA. Topically, my two favorite daily serums both contain it. Of course I use moisturizer afterwards. For special events, usually in the evening, I had additional HA to my steamy bathroom skin routine to plump my skin to the max. I use a different molecular size for micro needling and mesotherapy. I especially love nano needling HA into my lips and following it with a thick lip balm for big supple lips. I am a 41 yo man, and I get compliments all the time on the youthfulness of my skin. HA will always be in my routine in one form or another…until i learn more about PGA and find good sources for it. I live in the Midwest, and during dry furnace season, I always apply my skincare in the humidity of the bathroom. (Interior humidity levels during the winter are dryer than most deserts!)

I live in England, so lack of humidity generally isn't a problem, and during the heatwave when it was, I was spraying lots of cold water on my face for general survival reasons (we don't have air conditioning here), so it would be able to absorb some of that.

I live in a tropical country and my skin is oily, so I don't really use occlusives that much and tend to use light gel creams for my moisturizer (otherwise, my face will be sweatttyyyyy). I noticed that whenever I used an HA serum, my skin somehow feels tighter and drier (sometimes it kinda felt itchy too). so that's why I stopped using them, but I thought I haven't found the 'right' serum for my face. but luckily I stumbled on James Welsh's video about why he stopped using dedicated HA serums in his routine and boy oh boy that made immediately stop searching for 'the right' HA serum.

The two of them together has been amazing for my skin.

Personally, I kinda like using my HA as a sort of “primer” for the rest of my skincare. I’ll put it on after cleansing/exfoliating/toning or even just a quick splash of water in the morning, then follow it up with the rest of my (mostly water-based) serums and skincare, finishing up with my moisturizer which is fairly occlusive. At night my retinoid is in a Squalene oil base, so that’s an extra level of occlusion.
I don’t notice a HUGE difference in those instances when I run out and have to survive a few days without the HA, but I think it’s helpful as a step just dedicated to making my skin feel plump and hydrated (particularly since I’m bad about drinking enough water! 😅) and helps the absorption of the rest of my skincare routine by sandwiching it between some hydration (water/toner) and other hydrating & occlusive skincare steps.

I'm leaning on stopping the usage of HA because I noticed that if I just spritz water on my face and put my moisturizer on top (which has HA in it), I don't feel dry/tight. It became an extra step to help my dehydrated skin at first but I noticed that I don't really need this step anymore now that I'm 28 and my skin changed from being dehydrated and oily to normal.

I live in Nevada where the humidity rarely goes above 20%. I started using Hyaluronic Acid on my face because I wanted to get rid of fine lines and add some moisture to my skin. I combined it with my moisturizer and also used it as a solo step before moisturizing, and noticed after about 3 months that my skin was looking dryer, hence the reason why I googled, " Does hyaluronic acid dry your skin out?" and I came across your video. Wow! eye opening. Im going to take it out of my routine though. I was literally starting to look older and get more fine lines! But do what works for you.

So basically, HA and Glycerin operate very similarly. Very effective at binding to moisture within specific environmental factors and when paired with occlusives but can also be very dehydrating outside of those. Good to know. I've taken so much notes from Manes by Mell that it's been a smooth-ish transition learning about skin care products and ingredients. 😉

I watched Dr. Dray's and Dr. Shereene's video but I'd like to know how this squares up with Lab Muffin's video back in August /?v=eXPOyKb7dt0 at 8:23 where she says that there isn't evidence on human skin that HA will dry out skin depending on the relative humidity of the air. She goes a bit more in detail about the source of these claims and gives her opinion on why. I love the fact that we have such easy access to professional opinions from amazing dermatologists and other qualified professions but I noticed in skin care there's a lot of old myths that continue to get bounced around even by qualified doctors. Great example being that I STILL see the perpetuation of the idea that mineral sunscreens "block" or "reflect" UV as the main mechanism of protection when we've long known that isn't true. I think there's a similar issue with HA and climate.

The French -as customers- are very curious when it comes to new cosmetics, and not only the ones made in France (even though I can’t deny that “buying local” is a big thing).
For instance, they’ve been using Asian skincare since more or less 2016 (=way before the US).
« France is incredibly late into the game lately ».
Well, if you’re thinking Chanel, Dior, Givenchy, YSL, Lancôme, Clarins, Guerlain etcc. : those are all time classics, and very often when they come out with something new and innovative, not everyone can afford it (Guerlain ORCHIDÉE IMPÉRIALE 50ml face cream, which required 15 years of scientific research, costs…1,270€).
However, there are now dozens of new French brands : Typology, LAO, Krème, Skin&Out, Respire, oOlution, Pulpe de vie, Gallinée, Hello Body…with new concepts, young and passionate fonders, new technologies and ingredients…
I think one that has gotten real big in a short time is Typology. Far from your “Incredibly late” statement (or shall call it “prejudice” ? 😜). Their website is in French, English, and so far they ship to the US and other countries as well. And their prices are really reasonable. How about taking a look ?

I use Neutrogena hydro boost, the gel-cream for extra dry skin (I love that it’s formulated without fragrance). I then go on top with 100% squalane oil. Those are usually the last two steps after using a cleansing balm (depending on the active I’m using, I alternate between one with peptides and ceramides and another that has Vitamic C and more oils and is overall a bit heavier), using an AHA or Retinol+Niacinimide serum (I alternate because I don’t like layering my actives), then the hydro boost, and the squalane oil. On days when I’m wearing makeup, I just cleanse, exfoliate, use the hydro boost (it’s great makeup prep!) and a sunscreen, then go in with my makeup. I also will use the Bioderma Sensibio H2O micellar water in place of washing all of my cleansing balm away with the super hard water we have here. I’ll wash my face until I don’t physically feel the cleansing balm and then go in with a small amount of the Bioderma on a cotton pad all over my face and neck. I find it less stripping and that it soothes my skin really nicely. I have a thicker oil with Vitamin E in it that I use sometimes on areas of skin that feel particularly dehydrated. Tl;dr My go to moisturizer is the Neutrogena hydroboost gel cream for extra dry skin, which is from their HA line. Unless I’m wearing makeup, I ALWAYS go over top of it with an oil.

I live on the coast of Gold Coast, Queensland Australia and so the climate is very similar to mid-coast Florida (I've lived there also). I'm 48, fair, very sensitive to dry skin, coupled with rosacea. I have a very simplistic am/pm skincare routine that I have stuck with going on 3 months now and my skin for the most part has significantly calmed the hell down and now feels smooth af!! Zero hating on my skin right now and that's because I think minimalizing my SC routine to suite my needs, considering my individual needs, my environment and my finances. I stopped using individual HA and Retinoids as individual or uniformed steps (back in June) and didn't go looking for them in the more simplified serum/treatment or moistisers I now love for my specific needs. On the rare occasion I do wear make up, I use a simple oil balm or oil cleanser. I always double cleanse am and pm. Spritz spring water then ceramides. Give them time to absorb! Then I moisturize. I use the same evening moisturiser for am and pm. Zero retinoids. I have tried several mineral sunscreens spf 50 and all the other spf stuff but my skin instantly looks and feels like it's on fire. I use a La Roche-Posay spf 50 for sensitive skin and it's a gem! Exclusively HA products and even worse Retinoids : nightmare for my face! I can only say from my pov and experience that keeping it simple has saved my skin, saved my bank account and is an overall better experience.

This is the average size of a pore. The products also have an incredible delivery system and every product has this patented form of HA. Not only do they have that but they have other glycosaminoglycans, colloidal platinum, ceramide 3, peptides, eggshell membrane proteins, chonchiolan proteins, etc. I actually take a 1000mg HA supplement every day (it also contains 200mg of tremella polysaccharides). One of the best ways to utilize HA is by taking it as an oral supplement. Another great product containing 3 different GAGs is the SENTE Dermal Contour Pressed Serum. I haven’t tried this one yet but I’ve heard excellent reviews about it.

I always top with a good moisturizer at night and feel like this helps "lock" things in. I also am still on team Niacinamide. That being said, I am not sensitive to it like a lot of people are. It has really, really helped my pores and skin tone. But Niacinamide is really in a LOT of products now, so that would be frustrating if you're sensitive to it.

I have very oily skin and have been using the Neutrogena Hydro Boost gel moisturizer forever. I never had a problem with dry skin unfortunately.

I use HA in my nightime routine during the colder months (I live in Stockholm, Sweden snd we get a lot of humid cold) and it’s worked amazing for me. I no longer dry out and my skin doesn’t crack like it used to 💕

I’m not sure why people even care about what influencers or industry trends dictate? I appreciate the information they put out, but I know my overall health and well-being is my responsibility so I do my due diligence, and research things to the best of my knowledge and in the end, if a product or routine works for me, then I continue using it. Our skin is meant to react to different products in its own unique way, and there are just way too many variables to assume these statements are all-inclusive.

I also stopped using it in the summer but only because I opted to use only gel cream moisturizers as I'm also oily & breakout prone. But I'm reintroducing it for for fall and winter since it will get very cold and dry where I'm from! The peach and lily glass skin water gel is what I like to use rather than a serum, but one day I may try to find a less expensive alternative.

My skin really dislikes HA even though I use hydrating toners & moisturisers. I've cut it out now except for a handful of my holy grail products which seem to be better formulated. It's in way too many products. Thankfully Korean skincare has plenty of options without.

HA wrecked my skin last winter. I didn’t know what was going on and I just so happened to stumble upon videos from dr. Idriss (the one you mentioned here) and Robert Welch where they talked about the negatives of HA. I checked my products and HA was in all of them… my cleanser, exfoliator, retinol, moisturizer and sunscreen. I searched for non HA products, started using those instead and my skin was completely back to normal within a few days. I introduced it back in a little bit over the summer because it’s humid where I live but now that winter is approaching, I am stopping once again. Dr. Idriss gave some non HA product recommendations in her video and I would love if you did the same!
