What people routinely misunderstand, is that money and private practice is not the enemy in genuine health care. It is a means, for good doctors to work and get rewarded for their work. Organizations that try to put "science" or ideology over money, over their entrepreneurial independence, become stale and corrupt over time. Then, sure, they can be bribed and patients defrauded, but the root issue is not doctors being free. It is the system being unfree throughout the ages.
Thank you for this. I've suffered from Crohns for 44 years. I was advised by a knee surgeon to lose a lot of weight. I decided go zero carb and just eat meat and eggs only. Water and rooibos tea to drink. Ive lost 32kg in 7 months without really trying at all. But the real miracle happened within a few weeks. I went from running to the loo 15 times a day, terrible pain, losing blood to going only once a week. I rarely have pain anymore or any other Crohns symptoms. I get really emotional just thinking about it. I wish all Crohns suffers could get to try this. Its so very simple and easy to do. So life changing. God bless you all.
Did you ever have a surgery for Crohn’s. My child has already had one and receives treatments every 8 weeks. Have you ever tried bone broth, if yes do you think it helps? Please send me any info that has been useful to you, thank you.
@@LiveLoveLaugh22 Meat much easier to digest with much less residue. A lot better than food containing fiber which is bad news for IBD sufferers. Rooibos is a popular hot beverage in South Africa. Try Googling it.
@@LiveLoveLaugh22 Meat is easy to digest. I read a guy's post who had a colostomy bag and he tried all kinds of foods. The only thing that was completely digested were meats. He even tried eating huge chunks, gristle, etc., and it came out digested. Please try your child on carnivore. I've been on it for 4 years and I love it. {{hugs and prayers for your little one}}
What medications were u taking? I have all the chrome disease symptoms but don't have medical insurance for colonoscopy. Maybe my primary doctor can recommend the meds you're taking.
As a Crohn's sufferer I appreciate the attention being paid to this disease. Maybe someday I can be free of Humira and Sulfasalazine. I have been trying keto-carnivore since August first and feel so much better. The days I focus on the carnivore are truly the best.
@deepprey2776 Hi friend. I'm also a chrons patient. I'm having treatment for 2 years on humeira and stellera. But no improvement. Can you advice me pls.
Crohns sufferer, with colostomy. Recently switched to carnivore (3 months) lost weight, and noticed great improvement in digestion. There is nothing left after digestion, only liquid. This illness is horrific and the medications are outrageous. But this eating style has been very helpful for my experience with Crohns. Good luck to all the sufferers. Thank you Doctor for your video
I really feel for you ... and agree wholeheartedly ... the medications are so dangerous ... my daughter was recently diagnosed with crohn's (perianal) and put on two immunosuppressants (biologics ... remicade and azathioprine) ... the doctor said there is a risk of skin cancer with these medication... and lymphoma ... amongst the most common ... but she reassured me that was mostly in patients who had been on these drugs for "DECADES" ... I did my own research ... there is scientific evidence from medical journals ... revealing small children are diagnosed with lymphoma within a YEAR of taking these same drugs (and various other biologics)!!!! They say my daughter will most definitely get bowel cancer is she doesn't go on these drugs ... but the drugs that will presumably protect her from bowel cancer ... will, most likely, give her some other form of cancer ... if not ... she may even drop dead during an infusion ... or a day after ... weeks after ... or months ... there is no indicator ... it's just a "risk" ... so each time she goes for another infusion ... I need to take sedatives to help me cope with the anticipation ... trying to come to terms with that fact that I have no other alternative ... that I am taking my daughter to the firing squad ... I die a thousand excruciating deaths every day ... consumed with worry ... I cry when alone ... when driving sometimes I scream ... and scream ... and SCREAM ... because I am suffocating with fear for my poor child ... I have damaged my vocal chords ... people often as me if I should see a doctor because they think I have a cold or virus ... I have spent every waking moment for nearly a year desperately trying to find "hope" ... but there is none ... just horror ... I can't afford to have a nervous breakdown ... because my daughter needs me ...
This is great news. I lost my uncle to Crohn's Disease. He was diagnosed at age 18, and had a lot of his intestines removed. He was always taking Metamucil, and eating veggies. He was in excruciating pain, all the time. I wish he was around to try this. It probably would have saved his life.
30+ years Crohn's patient here. Went though hell and back, including surgery, all biologics etc...Currently in remission. 100% support all your points. Thank you.
nned specifics on what you exactly you ate when starting the diet, and what you ate before, if its a massive change then you need to ease into and give your body time to adjust. @@judyreed6254

I’ve had UC for 45 yrs and I am finally off my meds after adopting a keto/carnivore way of eating! Thank you Dr Cywes you are marvelous! Bless you for your hard work and diligent heart felt interest in helping us all. (UofT alumni🙏👍)

This is the best video I’ve seen by a doctor in the carnivore/keto community. Thank you for knowing about the disease. Oftentimes doctors lump Crohn’s in with IBS and don’t differentiate between IBD and IBS. As a person with stricturing Crohn’s disease I truly appreciate this video and the attention you have given it! Thank you
Wow! I’m so hopeful listening to this video! Currently so much pain, up to 30 times daily bathroom trips just watery diarrhea terrible weakness just giving up on life. Can’t ever leave my house. 35 yrs with this! I pray this really will work for me. Thanks Dr Rob
@@petertownsend252 hi I’m not her but I have done keto and carnivore in the past and have UC . I was symptom free for 2 years doing keto although I think it’s best to start off doing carnivore it’ll pull you out of a flare much quicker . I added back vegetables slowly but only some that I enjoy like avocados , steamed green beans and the occasional greek salad . Anyways after 2 years I got complacent and started eating everything again .. like literally the SAD diet and I was able to be okay for 9 months which actually surprised me . Recently I had symptoms again which is why I’m here and about to start again but yeah it definitely worked for me before and that was with no meds
Thank you so much for posting this. Your assessment could not be more spot on. I am a (former) Crohn's sufferer and basically cured myself over the past few years using the low--to-no carb approach you are describing. It took a while to figure it out after a lot of trial and error and the with help of a nutritionist. But my conventional doctors were just prescribing more and more meds to treat what had become pretty unmanageable symptoms but not actually address or correct the root cause of the problem. I am symptom and med free now and only wish I figured all this out a little earlier to avoid many years of suffering. Thank you again your videos are remarkably helpful and full of useful content. This one in particular articulates and consolidates what took me a long time to figure out. Anyone out there suffering from Crohn's symptoms would do very well to follow this approach and save yourself a lot of misery.
Omg finally hearing that my diet is the one I should be on for Crohns. Every dr I talk to pushes for me to eat fibre. I don't talk about my diet to dr now. So refreshing to listen to this dr. I thankyou for putting this up.
Meat is so easily absorbed by the human body . Plant matter isn’t .. our body and gut literally don’t touch it and it just sits in our colon and rots or goes right through us . I love the carnivore diet for any auto immune condition but especially gut related ones
Super interesting video Doc, this is what I've spoken about a lot on my YT channel. As a Crohn's sufferer for over 7 years I've been through it all with regards to meds and surgeries. A carnivore diet indeed did help in the department of reduced intestinal cramping, but it also makes you feel very fatigued - which improved for me after bringing in raw fermented dairy. I've believed for a long time now that Crohn's is bacterial related, however I can tell you in my experience, that it isn't so much a pathological species that contribute to the symptoms, but an overgrowth of normal/commensal bacteria in the wrong places (such as the small intestine) fermenting foods where they really shouldn't be. Following a carnivore diet for over a year didn't 'fix' me, unfortunately I'm not convinced it gets to the route cause of the problem, which I strongly believe to be either a bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine, or an issue with the autonomic nervous system due to an accumulation of physical and emotional trauma. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who's onset of Crohn's Disease had seemingly nothing to do with diet, and a lot to do with an external stressor
I agree completely. It's not a fix. The goal of the Australian work is to destroy the existing biome and repopulate. Our biome is directly related to our diet esp plant v animal
@@robertcywes2966 If you're referring to the work of Dr. Thomas Borody and FMT (Fecal microbiome transplants) he has done incredible work and saved many lives. Highly respected. Met with him personally at various gastroenterology conferences internationally. Clearly it is not needed for all GI conditions. Primarily it is used for C. Diff patients but also for crohns and UC with varying degrees of effectiveness. I wouldn't rule it out. I've done it for 3 months 5 days /week had severe crohns and UC on heavy meds, anti Tumor necrosis factor alpha, shots every other day .... etc. I put things in remission enough (dramatically)for me to focus on diet and get entirely off meds for at least the last 7 years. Ones microbiome is indeed created 'downstream' from ones diet and digestive abilities so that is in the end the most important factor to work on. No doubt.
You optimized vitamins/minerals to promote correct flora? Not that I know all the answers but stuff like D, B vits and K2 can all help. Fermented foods like homemade sour kraut, etc. Just curious if you've looked at any of that in conjunction with your diet
I'm starting to think that the best diet for a IBD sufferer would be one that combines carnivore and fermented foods. I'm currently on carnivore plus drinking kefir and doing really well. I'm going to start making my own kefir next week and looking for other fermented foods to add. I definitely think that carnivore helps a lot but there's still some root issue with the microbiome that people need to figure out. The best thing for it is going to be
I love your videos and I agree with you. I will say that I don’t necessarily believe that the trigger for Crohn’s disease is always what is perpetuating the disease.
Thank you for posting this . Have had Crohns for 25+ years and since going carnivore over 2 years ago I’m off my Remicade and inflammation gone . Never felt better . I tend to do more fat than protein which works for me . I refused to ever surgery even though I was told it would be in my future . Well so far , thanks to eliminating everything but meat and fat I’m still intact and Intend to remain so . Love all your work and efforts to get this out to So many . 😀
That's amazing! I am have Crohn's and am about 3 weeks in to the Carnivore diet. Do you have any tips for us newbies? Do you take any supplements? Any fermented foods by any chance?
@@StriderGTS Good job taking the carnivore route to healing . For me the first month was the hardest only because of the very loose stool as I adapted . Like those who have gone through the process , don’t ever trust a fart lol I’m almost 53 and have never felt better . I had my CRP (inflammatory markers ) checked and they were zero which is perfect . It takes a bit for your body to heal but I promise you it can . Those of us with autoimmune diseases like Crohn’s need to be more strict. I’ve , after 2 + years , added back in some olives , avocado, pickle, asparagus and iceberg lettuce on occasions. Honestly though , my body prefers and craves meat and fat so that is what I mostly eat . I do take magnesium and liver and intestines suppleness from ancestral (I have no affiliation with them, just really like their stuff ) and vitamin D if I can’t spend 30 minutes in the sun . @@kaceyrichards6461 This is amazing! Thank you for the response!! I'm only on week 3 and feel great but I have had occasional diarrhea so I'm looking forward to that going away. I have a colonoscopy June 1 and I'm kind of disappointed that it's not a little bit later to give this way of eating some more time to work. Hopefully it goes well regardless. My doctor thinks that diet can't help IBD at all and I would love to prove her wrong. I look forward to the day that these old-school doctors catch up with the actual dietary results people are having.
Totally agree about the carnivore diet. I have colitis, the easiest food for me to digest is animal fat and protein. Very little residue remains to irritate the gut.
Same here! I had diverticulitis 10 years ago and "almost" lost part of my colon. Totally gone now and zero cramping with bowel movements since going carnivore.
Thank you for acknowledging the invisible pain we suffer can be akin to giving birth. So many don't understand and have tried gaslighting me into thinking its in my head.
I have not been diagnosed with IBD but have struggled since childhood with constipation and the reverse. I have been on and off a lower carb diet for years and still suffer from constipation. About a month ago I did carnivore for 7 days and was astonished at how well I felt and bowels were also good. Went back to IF and on again off again Low carb and bowels are worse than ever. Tried eating Tablespoon of ground flax seed everyday for a week or so. Just about died. I should have gone to hosp. Kept saying to myself " after this cramp!" This video makes great sense. Back to carnivore I go! Thanks doc!
My grandson ended up in hospital with Crohn's at 17. He lost 2 years trying to get on top of it. During that time he instinctively ate only chicken, everything else hurt. He was given a formula to drink which is made by Nestlé but the first ingredient is sugar. 4 years in and he still mainly drinks this formulae purely to avoid pain. He's on Humira and chemo trying to get it into remission. I'm sending this to him to give him another option.
@@amanzella6508 he's at the stage where he knows what upsets him. He actually enjoys ginger among other things, which settles his gut. He's close to remission with only a 50 cent piece size of inflammation left. It's been a long journey and he's 22 now. He's taken his health into his own hands. He does a lot of bush walking which also seems to help. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll let him know.
Never suffered from Crohn’s disease but going carnivore helped with other “common” digestive issues such as gas and bloating. Experimenting with carbs brought it back so no more carbs.
Dr Rob, we gotta talk more about Crohn's and Carnivore!! Had all the so called diet recommendations you spoke about. Appreciate how sympathetic you are to those suffering with CD. I've got Crohn's, I podcast about holistic healing, been paleo for 20+ years no meds, now 2 months on carnivore and found you only and this video by searching "Crohn's carnivore". Great video, but there's not much else out there on this, including from you. Why don't you come on my little show and reach more of the Crohn's community about the benefits of carnivore? Aussie Ben
WOW. Innovative original thinker! I love the way this doc thinks outside of the box -sheer analytical observational BRILLIANCE! As someone who suffered from UC and self-cured, I can say you are right on target. Steak tartare and diet simplicity are the answers! OUTSTANDING video!
Great stuff Doc. Keep it up. You are my new hero. I'm retired in Costa Rica. You make me want to start a Carbaddict Clinic there. I have a CR medical license.
I have been taking immunosuppressants for the last 20 years. They are extremely expensive, and while they help manage the symptoms, certainly aren’t a cure. Very informative and educational video!
I 100% agree, I’m 4 days into a carnivore diet right in the middle of a severe Crohn’s flare. My flare has settled down exponentially. I really can’t believe it. A week ago I had my bags packed ready to admit myself into hospital, the bowels were so inflamed and I was losing a lot of blood. I’m feeling like a different person in 4 days. I can only call it miraculous. The anxiety and depression = GONE!!
Hi Lisa, I'm 10 years in being fully disabled with crohns. I've tried many meds and now refuse all. I'm at the end of my rope, not knowing how many more hospital stays I can endure. I read your comment and am wondering if the diet is still helping.
Thank you for your help in understanding this disease. I struggled with for 40 yrs.. I have started by removing carbs & sugars in my diet and have noticed a HUGE difference. I do mostly carnivor diet, with dairy and occasional green veggies. Thanks again!
You are definitely on the right track here. Diet makes all the difference in the world. Eat carbs you suffer pain. Eat primarily carnivore, pain and symptoms go way. That simple.
I was diagnosed in 1996. My weight got down to 86lbs. Regular weight was 140. It was not a lot of information about it them. Had a portion of small bowel removed. Had a colostomy bag for a few months. Then it was reversed. Was on steroids for a very long time. Then I started getting Remicade infusions in 2004. Was getting infusions for years. Change my life style and eating habits. Haven't had any meds since January 2018. Zero none 🎯
as an ulcerative colitis patient with moderate success in securing remission (following many of the broad strokes recommended by dr. cywes), i'd like to humbly recommend advocacy for various forms of exercise. i can't explain the ins and outs/biological mechanisms, but exercise (done right!) assists in proper regulation of our immune responses.
This Dr. is 100% accurate based on my 1yr on the Keto diet. Started to feel better in less than 1 week. I’ve had Crohn’s disease for 33 years. Had a surgery about 17 years ago. Have never felt great until I Went to very low carb (
Research shows that a naturopathic medical approach emphasizing diet and other lifestyle changes can be used to successfully manage Crohn's and colitis, and may potentially eliminate the need for prescription drugs.👍
Hi Robert, so far I’m the outlier. Crohns patient for 16 years now. I’ve tried every pharmaceutical (except for the newest option available.) I’ve attempted the carnivore diet and there are immediate benefits. Before starting the carnivore diet I had tremendous trouble with meat products. I ate them, nonetheless. Once I started eating them exclusively I did notice fewer BM’s which was a huge bonus. However, my FCP did not improve over the time that I was carnivore and the loose BMs from fat never let up. I also had more cramping while on the diet. Upon coming off the diet, I felt less cramping, though I did take a ‘white food’ approach. The white food actually helped clear up my chronically bad loose stools. At which point I slowly re-began a food introduction and got myself to where I am today. I’m still not better though I’m not cramping and I don’t have chronically loose stools. The strangest thing now is that when I eat red meat/pork/eggs then I am bloating/hurting. Even stranger, a lot of ice creams are tolerable. I’m about to have FCP retested soon. The worst part of this disease is that I just don’t know how/what to throw myself at. It’s the biggest puzzle ever.
I got sentenced with Crohns back in 2021. My Calprotectin levels were almost 4000. Lost over 25kg of weight, issues with kidneys, liver etc. Ended in a hospital on Christmas Eve where after coming back home and given a bag of steroids and immuno suppressants, decided to fix myself only with the diet. I refused to take any medication( not even a pain killers). I went on SCD/Gaps (food, spore based probiotics, omega 3, detox) diet which helped me to cure within couple of months. Ive been symptoms free since. I do however believe that Carnivore diet will fix it within a month. I am stirict with what i eat and never have any cheat days. Exercise is also part of my life at the fullest. The cure is mainly in food. 😊
I can second this. My wife is symptom free (after years of 10-12 bathroom trips a day). Started keto and improved but carnivore fixes it 100% no drugs no doctors
Wow! I feel so hopeful after hearing all this!! 35 years a Crohn’s sufferer. My bathroom trips are up to 30 times daily currently. I’m so so weak. So depressed. The pain is beyhond me. I really hope this diet helps!
Thank you very much for your sincere advice. I have been diagnosed with Crohn's disease. I have started the Carnivores diet. I am in good shape now. I will continue on this diet. I am convinced of it.
Listen to him peeps... I have ulcerative colitis and was on an immune suppressing drug for a long time and ended up with non Hodgkin’s lymphoma because of that drug 🙁. I’ve been Keto/mostly carnivore for 2 years now and have not had one ulcerative colitis flair! Also my arthritis that comes along with UC is completely gone!!
One thing to remember is cancer grows by a blood vessel growing to that cell and feeding it. Not eating carbs starves the cancer but those pathways are still there. So if you eat carbs again you will awaken the cells back up.
Man, I wish someone would study me. I’m 66 yr old female diagnosed as a 14 yr old w Crohn’s. I completely agree that we can suffer some of the most devastating pain! I’ve had 2 major resections so I would say I am a “short bowel” person! Thank you so much for this video. I have tried and failed at carnivore so many times. I can’t seem to get passed the horrid diarrhea when I’m on it. May be related to the short gut? Carbs are soothing to me. But you have encouraged me to keep going! I take no medications so I’m somewhat of an anomaly I guess. Staying away from doctors is what I do. If I ever have a flare I literally stop eating and fast. I get very weak but now I’ve learned about electrolytes and that will help.

@LiveLoveLaugh22 I am not a doctor nor am comfortable conveying medial suggestions. With that said, I have lived with this disease and come to realize that each person's journey is individual. For me I can say without a doubt THE REDUCTION OF STRESS was critical to reducing my flare ups. This can be accomplished by many ways , again depending on each person's lifestyle. I noticed excersise was my stress buster and kept my flares under control. I ran, played organized basketball until age 55 year old, hunted and gardened. Your child is young an has many options for excersise. I wouldn't discount Meditation , Yoga and other Mental Paths to relaxation and peace. One advantage I believed help me was I am an introvert and have very few social connections ( reduces tons of stress). At your child's age Peer Pressure is strong and social acceptance is critical. I was the total opposite. Work on Self-Esteem and believing IN SELF more than friends. Hard to believe but as an Retired Marine and Social Worker , I enjoy being alone and was always this way. My dogs meant more to me than most humans. This probelry comes from my dysfunctional home life ( not horrible but not Leave it to Beaver, I didn't meet Dad till I ran away at 15 years old). Not proud of it but just sharing some personal background. I will say in one sense your child & family is lucky that there is more social awareness and support for IBD these days. As to diet, I have yet to find the magic food but would suggest studying the immune system and how food & nutrition impacts your cells. There are many videos and books written on this. One thing I did was eliminate Sugar from my diet and home. Yes, I cheat once in awhile but I am almost 100% sugar-free. During flares, Aloe Vera ( you can get it at Wal -Mart or grown it yourself seems to help reduce my recovery length. After I fast for about 24 hours, I use Bone Broth ( yes, it helps) and then step up to smoothies with Aloe Vera blended in. Normally, I am back eating normal in about 48 ton72 hours. Again, this my 63 year old self lol. I stay away from peanuts, apples , grapes when I feel flare coming on. I also don't each three meals a day. I eat when I am hungry, not on a social standard. My Iritis ( spelling?) is an early warning for a pending flare for me Hopefully you can bring an Optometrist into your child's health plan. My disease does impact my eyes , during flares and pre- flares. I really hope I have helped or at least offered some suggestions. My military career, college , family and now retirement were each effect by this disease but none were destroyed by it. I have a good life now and know your child has many more resources than I had. I love this doctor, I lost my sister at age 31 due to complications of surgeries and drugs due to Crohn’s. We didn’t know in the year 2000 the Inflammatory properties of carbohydrates, she would be alive today- I know it, I can’t begin to tell you after 12 surgeries what shape she was in. The fact that she just dropped dead one night makes perfect sense, I tell everyone who is suffering from IBS, intestinal issues etc to stop eating carbohydrates, vegetables and starch...
Excellent video, I’m so glad you shed light on those classic “white” and “high fibre” diets that are just so wrong for people suffering with IBD. There is a lot of misinformation out there for people suffering with Crohn’s or Colitis and I think this is probably one of the best and most accurate videos I’ve seen on the internet. I’ve been diagnosed with crohn’s for around 7 years, multiple changes of medications and currently on a tapering course of prednisone. I’m sick of having no concrete answers and am currently trying to heal myself through diet
Check out Dr Ken Berry, Kelly Hogan, and Linda Spath. All are in You Tube and are a really good follow. I have had Crohn’s for 20+ years, and my daughter decided to “hop onto this carnivore train.” So I decided to hop on w/her. But I’ve had a rocky start as I keep getting nauseous after eating a lot of fat. So I’m thinking my gallbladder may be the culprit. Anyway, after a week of commitment, I decided to go much slower so my digestive track can adjust to the increased fat intake. I’m hoping that I will have better results, as I LONGGGG for my gut to be healed. 😢 I’ve been my own researcher, & doctor every since I was diagnosed, and have never taken any meds....and never will. I’d rather die than let Big Pharma poison me. So....hang in there & keep up your research. May God heal you!
Thank you for your information, Dr.Cywes. I got diagnosed with Crohn's disease in March last year, and I've eaten a Paleo diet since then. I feel way better however I still experience flares every now and then and realise I have to rethink my diet. Today is my first day eating the carnivore diet. I figured I'd give it at least 30 days and see how I feel. I'll keep you updated how I feel at the end of this month. Thank you for sharing. Great video!
I’m only on day 2 of the carnivore diet , but since my stool has changed and the amount of times I use the bathroom a day has decreased tremendously ! I’m very thankful I seen this video cause I was so lost on what to do and where my health was going. This video gave me a lot of faith
I do not have chrones but was born with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and with it come a whole host of comorbidities including gut issues. Since beginning a keto/ketovore diet 6 months ago I am now free of, IBS, Rapid Gastric Emptying syndrome and GERD. These are just a few of conditions that have healed since eating the proper human diet.
EDS is a tough disease that affects vascular connective tissue. Glucose makes the problem much worse in the arteries. Ketocarnivore is biologically a great choice to reduce inflammation. Not a cure but reduces risk. Thanks for commenting
Whenever I eat carbs I suffer with wind and bloating and since I cut them out, no more digestive issues!! I have also stopped acid medication and using ACV has cured this
Wow, after a quick Google search, I see this doctor is an extremely qualified MD and surgeon right here in Florida, my home state. Two years ago I had a colonoscopy that did not show IBD, despite my symptoms. So, not sure if I just have IBS. But, after the Thanksgiving holiday a couple days ago, I was about to head to the ER from the severe lower abdominal pains, cramping, and diarrhea. It felt like I had glass and bricks going through me! You’re in Jacksonville and I’m in the Tampa Bay Area. Wish I could consult with you.
My son was diagnosed with Crohn's at 11 yrs old and I didn't know about carnivore at the time, but I changed his diet drastically - eliminated all grains, basically, for about 4 months immediately following his colonoscopy (well, he ate a little white rice) and included more fat in his diet and magnesium and ever since then he's been fine. Gradually over the next 18 months we added everything back in and he's still fine.
@@haos4574 After his colonoscopy we were super strict on the diet and his symptoms disappeared immediately. Basically, they never came back after the colonoscopy. He was eating tons of eggs and bacon every morning, and feeling good, and I was so happy to see him eating because he had gotten so skinny when he was sick. He also ate tons of a concoction of full-fat coconut milk, frozen strawberries, banana, a little cocoa, and sunflower butter. Basically, I think lots of fat was good. No Grains except a little white rice.
@@Sonialix-x8g Hi Sonia, well, with my son after 4 months we started adding things to his diet, with him eating everything by a year later, except I continued to try to keep him away from restaurant food/vegetable oils. But I'm sure this is very individual. For a lot of people, a carnivore diet is a long-term solution. I never had to put my son on it, but I tried it myself just to see how to do it, and it made me feel so much better with all the various minor health issues I had that I am still on it 4 years later! I just really don't see the point in eating other food now. It just has a much lower nutrient content, is harder to digest, comes with a lot of toxins, and requires more cooking. Just make sure your son gets enough fat... like 200 grams of fat per day if he's full-grown. That's a little more than 2 sticks of butter. So either he needs to be willing to eat really fatty cuts, like pork belly and untrimmed brisket and chuck roast or you need to add fat separately. Butter is easy to eat but you might need to stay away from dairy I don't know. Do stay away from vegetable oils but coconut oil is good I think if you need an animal fat alternative. Also, the increased fat can cause loose stools itself until the body adjusts to making enough enzymes to digest the fat.
Kefir, and probiotics are really good for chronh disease, l have 19 years dealing with this condition and a doctor recommended me probiotics and they are really helping me a lot.
Fantastic video! I went carnivore for Crohn's after reading 100+ overwhelmingly positive testimonials from people who had sent their IBD intermission with this way of eating.
@@StriderGTS thank you for responding. I'm having Crohns and have lost 20 lbs. Pretty scary. I'm considering trying this to help. Dunno what else to do.
@@JockNmystyle- I would give it a couple months and see how it goes. What do you have to lose? My biggest takeaways are to eliminate all NSAID drugs, eliminate emulsifiers, limit seed oils to a minimum, and use the carnivore diet to try and find some kind of baseline foods that you can eat that don't give you a flare. Eggs and beef, or something like that. And then use that simple baseline diet as something that you can fall back on as you try to add more foods into your diet. I've been able to add in quite a few foods back which is nice. But yeah, I'm still pretty careful but it's worth it to not flare.
@@StriderGTS Right now I'm doing salmon, white rice, chicken, beef and some juices fruit and veggies, so no fiber. This started after I got Covid. I'm going to add things slowly like you suggested. I hope you stay well my friend. :)
I have completely eliminated carbs because of my chronic diarrhea (IBS), acid reflux, gastritis, and sore joints every morning. I have an adrenal tumor and it spits out random hormones, so I eat a boiled egg around 1pm, then I have my one meal a day of fatty steak or if I have something else, I will add bacon and eggs to it. This seems to work for me. Weight loss is very slow and frustrating, but I think I just have a slow metabolism.
I started doing the carnivore diet before it was even a thing because I noticed less symptoms when I ate that way. I did eat vegitables from time to time because I felt guilty for not eating properly, and usually felt minor flare ups afterwards. It's nice to hear from a doctor that it's OK to avoid veggies. Another thing that really improved my symptoms was avoiding all garlic and onion. It's not fun and hard to do, but it works. Thanks for the great info.
Thank you so much for your videos. Two of our children have crohn’s and my husband and I have some sort of IBS. I’m moving closer to carnivore, I’m hoping to get the whole family on board!
I’m 56 years old and I believe I “caught” Crohn’s when I had my spleen removed aged 8. Or there’s a definite connection between the two. I was chatting in a splenectomy Facebook group and the amount of splenectomy patients with autoimmune diseases was quite enlightening.
I know this is an old video but thank you for it! My cousin is suffering with Crohns and he is 16. So isolating! Anyway, his doc has him on white rice, white flour and noodles. Tons of veggies and small Amounts of meat. No resulting improvement so his poor mom is putting him on the injections that she was trying to avoid. I tried to tell her about carnivore but the fiber message is so strong she just doesn’t understand how carnivore is helpful. Makes me so sad. I just wish I could help. AnywahC thank you!❤
My daughter was recently diagnosed with Crohns and after working with western, integrative, and alternative doctors, all giving conflicting advice, we decided to use an online program. Google Dane Johnson and the SHEILD program. It's not cheap, but we were already paying a lot of money out of pocket for the integrative docs and IVs. The program only deals with Chrons or Ulcerative Colitis and most of the people that work there have had one or the other. Some great testimonials on UA-cam. They suggested a meal replacement shake called Absorb Plus and it tastes good and the only thing that doesn't cause my daughter pain right now and she put on 5 lbs in a week with it.
It is sad for the person who suffers from this illness, but the family members are impacted too. My son is had been pooping for a while at least 5 times, and he is finally seeing a GI doctor. He has not been diagnosed yet but will be soon tested we'll see what happens. Please pray for him, he is only 18 years of age. I have lost sleep over his medical problems, and it doesn't help that he is an only child.
Yes, yes, and yes! The only "carbs" I can ever sorta-kinda handle are root vegetables that have to be cooked down and pureed and even then its iffy. Sugar is my nemesis-processesed and fructose, the only sugar I can handle is lactose in dairy.
Thanks for empathizing and realignment to those unaware of diet significance. Medical end has never been positive, only the surgical route. 63-65 years with Crohn's and it's a complete secondary to the effects of nearly 5 years of high Prednisone use now Too conservative with only med available at in 60's, I think I'm lucky though. 😊
Thank you so much for your video. My son is suffering from crown disease from three years. He is on different medications. But nothing is working. Now I'm trying to eliminate dairy and processed food from his diet
Thank you for your insights,. much food for thought. I have been keto for 5 years and my diabetes is under good control with no meds now, after 25 years. Now I have been diagnosed with mild Crohn's. Carnivore is possible, especially as I reacted badly to the smallest dose of the standard treatment my specialist insisted I try here in Australia. Diet isn't considered an option here, even with my keto diabetic success. Wendy in 2023.
Could chewing your food longer and breaking it down in your mouth, until saliva mixes with it, until you extract every bit of flavour, help with digestion
Just found out within the past week that I have crohns. The doctor of course says medication is the best approach, but I absolutely hate taking any type of medication. So, I’m glad I came across this video. I had my appendix taking out in Sept. 2004 and in Jan 2005 had part of my small and large intestine removed due to an e-coli infection, or at least so I was told. I’ve had intestinal obstructions on and off since which they said was from adhesions. Now, I’m thinking it was crohns the whole time. I haven’t had additional surgeries since and usually pain meds and IV Fluids are all that’s needed to treat the obstruction. Sometimes an NG Tube is required to suck out any bile to relieve the pressure in my intestines. But, luckily that doesn’t happen often. I’m generally pretty healthy and it was only because I just turned 45 that I even had a colonoscopy, which found the disease. So, I’m hopeful that this approach keeps me that way and also helps anyone else suffering from this disease. Thanks for the video Doc!
My 17yr old daughter was diagnosed in August this yr. Doctors put her on a low fiber diet and she has had remicade infusions her MRI shows that her inflammation has increased! The inflammation is in her small intestine. She currently weighs 102lb also has low iron and has had iron infusion
i've had crohns since i was 15 and now im about to hit 40 i've been lucky enough to avoid surgery but have been on just about every medication and trial know. i've also been one of the unlucky ones when it comes to the immune suppressed drugs with very bad side effects. My doctor told me at one point they have had to put extra warning labels and side effects on some drugs because of my reactions. After having so many problems with drugs and over use of steroids to treat my crohns i decided to try to take control and really find out which foods effect me the most and eliminate them from my diet. Not everyone is the same when it comes to what foods effect us so it was defiantly trial and error for me. i have always noticed i always crave meat when others are going for a snack even if i've already eaten. Very interested in giving this carnivore diet a try but the one concern i have is anytime i currently eat red meat it seems to run right though me i eat more chicken than anything but i've noticed they say to avoid anything with lots of tendons any suggestions i love bacon and sausage and that doesnt seem to give me any problems. would love a video with some food suggestions for people starting on the carnivore diet.
Fasting, intermittend fasting and keto diet healed me after 15 years. I guess extreme cases might even have to try the carnivore way. All the best to anyone suffering.
Thank you Dr. Cywes for this video. You have totally truth about mikrobioms and carbohydrates, I have Crohn`s disease for more than 30 years and now on low carb diet. Everything is better now. I have only still problems with eating high fats, but hope it will be better soon. Try what doctor says, you will be suprised, how it works! Take care folks, and we need more doctors like you are! Greetings from Czech Republic
Thank you so much for doing this video! My daughter(14) was diagnosed with Crohn’s when she was 12. We followed the diet recommended by her doctors and put her on Remicade, she started developing other immune responses...extreme inflammation in her eyes and on her scalp. We switched to a Carnivore diet in April and the inflammation in her eyes are gone and her scalp is almost cleared! She is still on Remicade, but she has had such improvements! Would you recommend someone like that to stay on Carnivore indefinitely or could they do Keto(with some vegetables) every now and then? Thank you for your content! It has been life changing for us!!
I'm not a doctor..but carnivore diet has been our general diet for centuries. Only recently since the 1900s have the colon cancers/diseases increased so rapidly etc. Processed foods and MAN-ufactured meals are the root cause/effect of most of today's chronic auto immune issues. Crap In Crap Out. It is NOT caloric problem...it is a CARB/OIL crisis and addiction since birth we all are chained into. S.O.S. Seed Oils and Sugar... is the disease duo to avoid.....just my 2 cents. Please consider Sunshine/Steak/Seafood/Salt/Sleep.....in any order 🥩🥚🌞 In my humble opinion The LIVER and GUT are the primary source of life. The Brain and Heart are standing by 😎 BTW...I also think Aspartame and all those other fake flavors are GUT bullies....
@@tjellis1479 TOTALLY agree!! I've been implementing the 5 S's you mentioned, and I'm like a completely different person now (at 57 years old). It's mind boggling!
I’ve had Crohns for 25 years and had been on Remicade for 17 yrs . I went Keto in 2016 but still suffered from bloating and bad constipation ( was seriously told I needed more fiber even while eating a ton of veggies) so in 2018 one of my doctors I work with (I’m an RN) told me to try carnivore. I’m off my Remicade, have never felt better , and have had no flare ups or attacks. I will never go back ... hope this helps 😊
I have it too and would recommend staying carnivore as long as possible and only when fully healed and symptom free go SCD but make it keto. Ingredients matter so you'd have to do clean keto
Were you in a flare when you started? did it take time for your bowels to adjust to carnivore? I'm on day 7 and definitely experiencing the runs. What does a typical day of eating look like? Thanks
@@iksdistek No, I wasn't in a flare. Carnivore suited me pretty quickly tbh, but I wouldn't worry about the runs. Better to heal yourself than give that any attention. You'll adjust in time if other people's experiences are anything to go by. I normally have bulletproof coffee in the morning, followed by bone broth. Then chicken wings for lunch. And steak and egg for dinner. It's all delicious, so I'm not really in a place where I crave other foods. But since my Calprotectin levels have come down to 50 recently, I've had a cheat day once or twice a month. I'll see how I feel with that over time. But you gotta do the basics for a long time first so you heal fully. And at ALL COSTS avoid processed foods, and oils that are liquid at room temperature. Use coconut oil or butter instead
good to hear it's working for you, do you still have any symptons? I was on SCD diet, basically eliminating all the complex sugars, I was able to get my CRP to 1.1 from 70+ and Calpro to 73 from 2900, and I was once pain-free and my stools were perfect. However, I started to get the pain back, minor but intermitent through out the day, and stools a bit loose, thinking about going carnivore.
@@haos4574 thanks for the question. So, an update is necessary here: Last May I was working on the road (I'm a filmmaker) and as I wasn't at home, my dietary habits were severely affected; I was in fantastic form and condition, so I stopped taking my IBD seriously. Once I came home from that trip, my diet cleaned up, but not as much as it should have. I was doing a loose SCD regime instead of strict carnivore. Cut to February of this year, I was starting to feel nauseous after my meals, I was constipated for a week, and I have niggling discomfort in my abdomen throughout the day. I'm now doing a Ketovore diet to try and get a grip on things. Cut to today and I'm eating steak for lunch, chicken for dinner, bone broth and bulletproof coffee in between, intermittent fasting every day, and if I snack between meals I will allow myself some berries and grapes (though I may need to cut these out and go full carnivore again). I hope I haven't done irreversible damage, and my testimony is now also damaged because I can't say that carnivore fixed me because I went off it and am now paying the price. My hope is that the carnivore WOE is genuinely affective though, and can be the ideal diet for anyone looking to reverse their symptoms. If you want to keep tabs on my journey, you can find me on Instagram and dm me for more info anytime @adamwilliamcahill
@@adamwilliamcahill wow, thanks for clarifying and the quick response! It's just I've hearing wonderful things about all those diets, whether it be carnivore or SCD or AIP, it always sounded like people have reversed the disease pathologically. Now i know why i suffer from extreme low bp, my gut cant absorb salt. Everytime i eat extra salt or take a salt tablet i start to feel better.
I have it , and I do believe I have relevant information to share. I at one point had an ileostomy bag, I was also given a short life span prediction based on my prognosis, no longer... Don't have surgeries unless absolutely necessary! All of this can be treated v.i.a diet., No Fiber, low residue diet! And maintenance with anti inflammation drugs when absolutely necessary but not on a regular basis.
@@pammystories1 Go liquid (diet) for a short period of time until your symptoms alleviate a little. Consider trying a low residue diet going forward. Chart your diet for about a month (min) once you are on a more even keel, meaning write down every bit of food you ingest, and how you felt 1-2 hrs following your meal. If anything in particular hurts you or causes unpleasant results more so than other foods you eat remove it and move forward. You must experiment on yourself to find a tailored solution for yourself. Don’t take ibuprofen if you can help it , do take Tylenol and it’s derivatives. For maintenance and pain reduction seek out any inflammatory foods and Indicate based marijuana.

Thank you Doctor for your video
Glad ur sharing your story. Thank you. Legitimacy.
Chrohns sufferer and colostomy too 😊

I was symptom free for 2 years doing keto although I think it’s best to start off doing carnivore it’ll pull you out of a flare much quicker . I added back vegetables slowly but only some that I enjoy like avocados , steamed green beans and the occasional greek salad . Anyways after 2 years I got complacent and started eating everything again .. like literally the SAD diet and I was able to be okay for 9 months which actually surprised me . Recently I had symptoms again which is why I’m here and about to start again but yeah it definitely worked for me before and that was with no meds

How you have managed to survive as a shut-in is a testament to the human spirit. How brave you are! 👏
You are so right! I want to know more about what you ate to get rid of crohns. Please share more.
Omg finally hearing that my diet is the one I should be on for Crohns. Every dr I talk to pushes for me to eat fibre. I don't talk about my diet to dr now. So refreshing to listen to this dr. I thankyou for putting this up.
I know lol. I don't even tell my doctors about my diet, they would never believe me.

I’m almost 53 and have never felt better . I look forward to the day that these old-school doctors catch up with the actual dietary results people are having.
This is the best advice I’ve seen for Crohn’s from over 10 years of extensive internet searching. Thank you, sincerely.
Totally agree about the carnivore diet. I have colitis, the easiest food for me to digest is animal fat and protein. Very little residue remains to irritate the gut.
I have the same experience!
carnivore cured my UC, my GI took it off my medical record since there are no sign of disease anymore

Kept saying to myself " after this cramp!"
This video makes great sense.
I'm sending this to him to give him another option.
what about butter based hot drinks? I sweeten hot chocolate with stevia like that. like 0 sugar.
Aussie Ben

Also, how long have you had Crohn's?
Thank you for your help in understanding this disease. I struggled with for 40 yrs.. I have started by removing carbs & sugars in my diet and have noticed a HUGE difference. I do mostly carnivor diet, with dairy and occasional green veggies. Thanks again!
You are definitely on the right track here. Diet makes all the difference in the world. Eat carbs you suffer pain. Eat primarily carnivore, pain and symptoms go way. That simple.
Thank you Dr.CYWES i am from Australia i am keto Carnivore with out dary and very little Vegas no fruits.
Totally agree that diet is the most important factor in autoimmune disease. Interesting about the Australian study into this condition.
Zero none 🎯
What change in diet did you do?

as an ulcerative colitis patient with moderate success in securing remission (following many of the broad strokes recommended by dr. cywes), i'd like to humbly recommend advocacy for various forms of exercise. i can't explain the ins and outs/biological mechanisms, but exercise (done right!) assists in proper regulation of our immune responses.

Wow this is amazing, I'm going to share with with my GF, as she has been suffering with crohns for a long time now.
Research shows that a naturopathic medical approach emphasizing diet and other lifestyle changes can be used to successfully manage Crohn's and colitis, and may potentially eliminate the need for prescription drugs.👍
Have you taken naturopathic treatment for chrons? If so, please share how it was?. Did it heal
I just got diagnosed, what is FCP?
Yes, I had crohns and solved it with a carnivore diet👍👍
What frequency you had for bowel movements?
I can second this. My wife is symptom free (after years of 10-12 bathroom trips a day). Started keto and improved but carnivore fixes it 100% no drugs no doctors
Timeframe was 3 weeks to full symptom free, has stayed that way for almost 2 years

One thing to remember is cancer grows by a blood vessel growing to that cell and feeding it. Not eating carbs starves the cancer but those pathways are still there. So if you eat carbs again you will awaken the cells back up.
I wish you all the lone and best in your journey
Start very slowly. Keto first then carnivore.Don't jump in. Use MCT oil

@LiveLoveLaugh22
I am not a doctor nor am comfortable conveying medial suggestions.
The path is hopefully for You & Yours. If he needs pep talk ( it won't be Suger Coated lol) former Marine Drill Instructor here reach out. Please reach out , as you can tell I love to talk about IBD and how to KICK IT'S ASS!

I’ve been my own researcher, & doctor every since I was diagnosed, and have never taken any meds....and never will. I’d rather die than let Big Pharma poison me.
So....hang in there & keep up your research. May God heal you!

Everything is true in this video this is how I survived!
Gradually over the next 18 months we added everything back in and he's still fine.
that's great to hear! I wonder when you eliminated those foods, were his symptons gone entirely or they gradually became better over time.
I’m happy to know that your son is doing great. My son was diagnosed 4 year ago and right now we are trying the meat diet. How long you do it?
Thank you so much for all the information🙏

Thank you for this. I am 100 days in carnivore, meat only. I needed this encouragement.

Thanks for your expertise. I'll definitely try it.
Please consider Sunshine/Steak/Seafood/Salt/Sleep.....in any order 🥩🥚🌞
In my humble opinion The LIVER and GUT are the primary source of life. The Brain and Heart are standing by 😎
BTW...I also think Aspartame and all those other fake flavors are GUT bullies....
the remicade will kill her, remove it
@@tjellis1479 TOTALLY agree!!
Thanks VERY mucy Doc, I'm really struggling at the moment with Chron's, going to give your suggestions a go. Thank you again 😀
How did it go for you
Very good info thank you, just sent to a friend whose husband has crohns.
Doing a carnivore diet, my C Reactivate Protein went from 37 to 5, and my Calpro from 900 to 200
The carnivore diet works, folks
So, an update is necessary here:
Last May I was working on the road (I'm a filmmaker) and as I wasn't at home, my dietary habits were severely affected; I was in fantastic form and condition, so I stopped taking my IBD seriously.
I am at a point that I am confused again as more I have seen and tried, especially with my bowel discomfort. Will definitely check out your Instagram.
My friends neighbour works for Prof. Borody in australia. She has a friend who was cured by this new fecal transplation. Many are being cured. I am now hoping to go and seek treatment while I wait by doing lion diet. The centre is only 5 mins away from me. Love your videos Dr. Cywes, so informative. Now i know why i suffer from extreme low bp, my gut cant absorb salt. Everytime i eat extra salt or take a salt tablet i start to feel better.
Does the Doctor have a website? Does he treat Americans. I 62 years old and tired of the drug games American Doctor's play with IBD's.
Thanks
Are you tried fecal transplation now?
@@عمرعبدالا-غ6ط believe it or not, i was totally misdiagnosed. Nothing wrong with me. I was so happy.

@@rik4369I’m thinking about trying it
I have it , and I do believe I have relevant information to share.
Please share with me in tears please sir teach me how to get manageable please
Be of good spirits as your mood is a significant factor in maintaining your condition, consider meditation to regulate your mind while you are working to regulate your body. 🤞 I’m crossing my fingers for you, good luck I wish you well on your journey going forward.
@@AdamWeatherall what is residue diet?
@@taniaakter7363 google low residue diet. It’s basically low fiber foods that go through your digestive system easier. I was prescribed this diet Cedar Sinai in Los Angeles Ca among the best g.I. Hospitals in America. Good luck. Focus also on anti inflammatory foods and vitamin supplementation.
I’ve gotten to the point where I’m getting iron infusions for the anemia that’s resulted from this. Will be doing carnivore. Thank you!
This is the END to crohn's! Thanks for this video.
update?
@ Dr.Cywes can you give us an update on the research you mention in this video. Thank you.
