After a recent surgery, I was put on a drip.
I was supposed to be in
recovery for only one night, but they
wouldn't release me because my blood
pressure was extremely high. On the
fourth day, I asked what was in the drip
and they said, "Lactic acid." When I
asked to be changed to a drip of only
    sodium, my blood pressure immediately
went down and I was able to be released.
I'm still mad about that. Please, when you
are put on a drip in the hospital, make sure
it is NOT any kind of sugar. You can ask
    for a sodium drip.

i got diagnosed with HBP at 26, and it took recent times to hack my inner body systems. I did that by cutting out sugar and other carbohydrates, and being mindful and cutting out seed oils. For the first time in my later life, I saw my BP go down to 123/70. I have not seen numbers like that in a looooong time.
So I'm going to continue doing this.
Also, anyone ever considered POTASSIUM when they're consuming their salts? Nobody talks much about this, but a little potassium helps the sodium run more effective through your electric system (aka electrolytes running through your nervous system). I consume it in the form of Cream of Tartar - it's calorieless, and I throw it my water at least 2-3 times a day at about 1 teaspoon.

This is fascinating! I had no idea that my carb addiction was driving my high blood pressure all of these years. I remember being scolded about my blood pressure and weight at 10 or 11 years old! I always connected the two. The body is an amazing machine, and I now understand that man's interventions, no matter how well-intentioned, usually make the body's overall health worse. Yes a pill can lower BP or Cholesterol, but if the root cause is not addressed, then it usually makes overall health worse. Kind of like the government, messing up everything it gets involved with!

You’re making me wonder if I created my own high blood pressure by over-drinking water. I’m a singer and years ago accepted the mantra that we singers must remain hydrated. I was also inundating my body with glucose and fructose, but I’m now on a low-carb way of eating and still on bp medication.
The water pill that was part of that treatment has depressed my sodium levels, despite my having increased the salt on my food, so my IM doctor took me off of it.
I exercise and use the sauna, so of course, I use water during and after those activities. And increase my salt intake as well. Now my doctor is telling me to restrict salt!
I’m on a low-carb diet; I’ve been cutting back on the few remaining ones like prunes and CBD gummies. But I wonder how to get back to that intuitive balance between water intake and salt.
I’m glad you’re there, to reinforce the importance of salt. Thank you.

Started keto, but have adopted a healthy keto diet (vegetable, and leafy greens as well) and started exercising ( know up to100 miles per week). I was starting to get concerned because my resting heart rate was going up the more weight I lost and the fitter I got. After increasing my salt intake my pulse is normal and I feel great. The lesson I learnt was moving away from a high carb, low fat, low sodium diet to a keto lift style with lots of exercise your salt intake must be adjusted to your new healthier life style.

Thank you for this information. I always get frustrated when a Dr. doesn't want to look at underlying causes, and just give another 💊. I have had a couple of Dr.s want me on statin, due to family history and my cholesterol being a little high. I flat out refuse. The small amount of medical knowledge I have as a Paramedic, common sense, and reading information from Dr.'s like you, keeps me from jumping on every pill, and every instruction my Dr gives me.

Just saw this 2 years later. I’ve heard the same thing about salt demonized and sugar never meaningfully discussed, or at least truthfully discussed. Thank you for being valiant. I applaud your courage.

I found this video incredibly valuable I have been suffering from HypOtension for the past 8 months resulting in extreme fatigue an hour so after eating a low carb meal (0-20 carbs). My go to snack food was a few ounces of unsalted pistachios or some times salted almonds For the past 6 months I have been seeing an endocrinologist and I have received battery after battery of tests with almost all parameters in spec with a few just over the high range. Cortisol was on the low side of normal and 2 challenge tests showed normal adrenal, pituitary and hypothalamus response. She finally said that she hadn't a clue what was wrong, prescribed cortisone and said if it doesn't work, see a cardiologist. My standing BP dropped as low as 65/48. I was spending 3 or more hours napping after meals and was feeling totally debilitated. I did add extra salt to my water and cut back my cycling from 30 to 20 miles a day but nothing helped. Last weekend I ran out of pistachios and found a 1/2 lb bag of Stryve biltong at Walmart. Zero carbs and no added sugar, unlike jerky. It was really good and almost the real deal and I consumed the bag in a few days. The following day I no longer felt drowsy after meals the fatigue was almost gone. In addition, I have gone all week without a nap! BP is relatively normal especially between standing and sitting. A recent blood test (8/26) had sodium at 140, Chloride at 106 and potassium at 4.1 and Anion Gap was 13.0, so no obvious deficiency. I was checked yesterday by a cardiologist and my ekg was 100% normal. He did prescribe Midodrine to boost BP when necessary. I was afraid to overdo the salt but after this video I will continue to consume significantly more than I had been. I do check my BP 4 or 5 times daily. I feel your video rationalized my recent experience with additional salt.
    Thanks for the great service!

I just found you on UA-cam!! I am absolutely amazed about what you have to say about salt and high blood pressure!! I have high blood pressure but my cardiologist never discussed the role of sugar. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain role of sugar and salt on our blood pressure!! I will share your video and sign up on your Patreon page!!

Make sure you check out Celtic salt and Himalayan sea salt. They have the highest amounts of minerals that your body needs. Please stay away from table salt.

This makes me feel better…even as a child, I craved salt over sugar except when at my grandparents house. (They had all the goodies of course.) Now that I’ve kicked sugar/grains out of my life, I still crave salt. It’s nice to know I don’t have to feel guilty about eating it!

At home my blood pressure is perfectly fine.
First, I dropped all sugars and carbs about a year ago. Then a month ago I also decided to lower my salt intake just because, now my blood pressure is extra low. Typically, it reads 95/67.
Only when I go to the doctor's office, that is when i NEED blood pressure medication.
    Going to doctor causes hypertension.

Doctors always say cut the salt... BUT what they never say is "because you eat too much carbs", I knew from experimenting on myself that sugar was causing my BP to go up, not salt! As soon as I get rid of glucose overload or do long fasting my BP is totally normal. It will rise again if I dive back into the carb addiction.

I've be keto carnivore since Feb 2019. I'm still on lisinopril but... I only take in if my blood pressure is high now. Went from 10mg a day 11 years ago, to 20mg 5 years ago, back to 10mg when I went keto. Now taking 10mg maybe every 3 or 4 days. Hope to some day not need it.
