Hey meMiner thank you for the video a buddy and I went up to this spot on the weekend had a great time and some awesome finds hope you heal up quick so you can get back out there thank you
What a great bunch of videos you have of you doing what you love. You live in a place of wonder to me! I only have glacial till to search in Indiana... how envious! And what a good dog!
I'm actually going to Vancouver and doing the West Coast as fare down to Cali and back up through Nevada next week....rock hounding the whole way, I'll let you know what I find! Always nice to make friends with a fellow rock hound!
That place is well worth the drive and has brought me and my gf a lot of joy. If you're just starting out with minerals I suggest the Smart Mine...You will never go home without several nice cabinet specimens.
not sure if anyone gives a shit but if you're bored like me atm you can stream all of the latest movies on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my gf during the lockdown xD
Thanks for the great review.I hope to be able to visit the property myself in a couple of weeks. Good tip on using a long shovel to get at those hard to reach areas. wilkster
It is one of the better sites in the area because of the quantity, quality and variety of the crystals. One thing about long handles - they are great for holes that go straight into the wall. Not so good if there is a twist or turn. So make sure they are not your only tools on the trip or you might handcuff yourself. Good luck on your visit to the property.
I am Port Perry, so we are practically neighbours. Next time I go, I will make it a two day trip, as it is a bit of a long drive from here. Good luck with your rock hounding.
The fee still hasn't changed, it's $10, and the owner donates the money to the hospital to help children (can't remember the name of the hospital). As for the minerals, I found lots of red apatite , along with sphere, biotite, and augite. The augite have decent terminations, and form in a layer below the calcite and about the apatite. As for the quality of the apatite, I found plenty of fragments, some quiet large but very few that were terminated. I was talking to a local at another mining spot and he said the reason the apatites are so fragment is because of the freeze and thaw cycle. Not for certain if that is true, but maybe finding specimen deeper buried might help. He suggested going about a metre deep to avoid the broken pieces.
so, I made an account on mindat.org. thanks for the advice. I am already learning SOOOO much more about the bedrock formations in my area in western NY than I had previously known. For example, what I was assuming was the majority of bedrock, was actually siltstone and sandstone that formed on the ancient seafloor that is now my property. the actual solid bedrock, which is shale, is further beneath the false bottom that the sandstone and siltstone have formed in "storm shores"?? or something like that... this explains the immeasurable loads of fossils we've found everywhere!!!! I may not find "precious metals" or super shiny crystals, but there are loads of fossils. I still want crystals though.
Is there a way to set off those mini blasting 🧨 charges without hurting the Crystals . One or two small charges not right in the area where your digging but just like far enough to cuss the rock to fracture ? And not do much damage.. percussion charge.. sending hugs and love from Colorado Springs....Black Dog Out.....!
I was wondering why you were going into that dirt until you started pulling out Crystal's from it. It didn't look like anything to me at first. Wow was i wrong you pulled out a lot of nice crystals.
I am always surprised and delighted when viewers see something in the background that I missed. Someday, I am sure there will a bear, sasquatch, diamond or ?? that I was completely obvious to. ;-)
I have seen a micro blaster at work, but don't own one myself. They are not legal in Ontario for recreational rockhounding ... it is considered mining and you need to be on an active mine site. The expanding cement also works well for cracking rock. The big problem with either of these things is drilling the hole. You need the right tool for that and again any power tools under the "letter of the law" are not recreational rockhounding. I am not sure anybody would really care, but it is something to keep in mind. However, if you have a drilled hole, feather wedges and a sledge do a pretty good job.
I wonder how much it would cost to have some pyrite, apetite, garnets, amethyst, blue barrel, and a few other crystals mailed from Canada to Texas would be?
I have considered both a micro blaster and a gas rock saw. Both would be handy. Hammer and chisel work OK, but sometimes the situation calls for some real tools.
Hey I'm planing of going to the lost mine tomorrow afternoon. I think I have a general idea how to get there but not exactly..... lol.. I'm going up Hy 41 to Eganville Ontario... now this is where I get lost.... how do I find my way to the lost mine....
West on HWY 512 from Eganville. About 14 KM to Wittke Rd. Turn left on Wittke. The small parking place that you see the car in the video is on the right. A short distance back (maybe 30 yards) on the other side of the road is the trail into the forest to the mine. About a half KM into the forest on the trail is a clearing (and digging) and you will see the sealed mail box to put $10 on the left. I am going from memory, but it is pretty difficult to get lost. Good luck with your adventure. I plan on going Saturday with my club.
Did you get out to the site? I met the owner on Saturday. Really nice guy. I did not take any video as my finds were not great. The water table is really high so it was difficult to get to depth and the existing trenches were mostly filled with water.
Last year, I found the apatite crystals were plentiful and in better shape at the Lost Mine than other places where they mostly fall apart. Try to get back if it ever stops raining and things dry up - You need to get to depth. I do like the titanite at Titanite Hill, when you find a good spot. With Schickler, I like to go "off the reservation" as there are some great spots away from the main trench. If you try, focus on some of the ridges. It is all part of the same claim, so you are allowed, but they don't advertise it, so nobody falls down a cliff. Some really good radioactives to be found and undisturbed digging.
Do you sell appetite crystals, and if so how much. I'm not a rich man, but would like some for my collection. Please let me know, thank you. I enjoy watching your videos.
@@meMiner I was born in the worst possible state for gold prospecting and gem hunting. If you decide you would be willing to sell a few, please let me know. If not that's fine, I can understand. I can still enjoy watching your videos. Thank you, and have a great day My friend.
Should change the title, it's in Eganville, which is no where near Bancroft! Also called the Miller property for people wanting to make legit labels for their specimens!
Agreed, but I am not sure anybody would search up Eganville or other the small towns in the immediate area. Bancroft considers itself to be Canada's Mineral Capital" and many mineral hunts start or pass through this well known location.
I wanted too mention that the only thing I would be concerned with is the impact level on the crystals,! Be ing shattered Surubied shattered the boys in tadders ,,, lololo. We are all here to help each other. Funny, I was out rockhounding today and talked to a fellow from New York about that site for a long while. He had been there a few times (like me). It would have been a good video just to record. Lost opportunity.
Love your videos. One concern about this one, and it would apply to a couple others, too. Cutting the roots of trees are removing the soil from the roots is not so good for the tree! At what point do humans' desires take precedence? say this note is a criticism, truly is just a question. Whenever we take some thing from nature we have an effect. It is only more apparent when we watch it being done. Everything I own my self has been taken from somewhere. So, again, I am not criticizing, just sharing a thought.
@@meMiner That is great to know. I am astonished and please to hear back from you, especially so promptly! I sure like your manner in the videos, and seeing the Z and your other dog his name I'm sorry I just forgot.

The rock's alone look nice. Awesome find i like. That was a good idea to dig in that hole. Oh my God what the hell is that? That's a gigantic crystal.
I found an older hole there, pulled out an 11inch 6lb apatite!
Nice!

Did you notice the 4 leaf clover by the second hole? Lol!
I am always surprised and delighted when viewers see something in the background that I missed. Someday, I am sure there will a bear, sasquatch, diamond or ?? that I was completely obvious to. ;-)
Looks like someone started to open up that second amazonite pocket I located when I went!
Did they leave you anything?
Thaís Channel is good, my angel!
5:17 Looks like a four leaf clover🍀 watching over that hole there in front. Might be a good sign to keep digging! 🙄
I am pretty sure you can find good stuff anywhere you want to dig in this location. ;-)
I bought a couple Amazonite pieces. I thought until recently they were from the Amazon!
I heard one guy call it Jungle Jade. I think it is found everywhere except maybe Asia. More likely, it is in Asia but not reported.
Have you ever tried using expanding cement to break rock or one of the blasters like the Sierra Blaster?
I have seen a micro blaster at work, but don't own one myself. They are not legal in Ontario for recreational rockhounding ... it is considered mining and you need to be on an active mine site. ♥️
Sooooooo, did you get that big apatite out of that hole? If so, did it clean up?
The sad news is it broke.
Ahhhh, they do that sometimes eh? Too bad. There's more there though!
It is always a heartbreaker. For sure, I want to go back and give it another go.
:) Me too, I left a few big ones still in the calcite I was working with in that hole. Need to get micro blaster in there!
I have considered both a micro blaster and a gas rock saw. Both would be handy. Hammer and chisel work OK, but sometimes the situation calls for some real tools.
is that black tourmaline?
I could hear Daisy before I saw her. 😄
Oh so true. LOL
what do you use to rinse them clean?
To start, I just use water and dish soap to see what is there. A small soft brush or tooth brush is also helpful
you forgot to include to take a wire brush and pry bar for tools. Even go the distance with a multiple fork cat and rope.
I am always missing something. Usually, it is only as far as the truck, but sometimes it is sitting idle at home

There is sphene (aka titanite) at the place. I found 3 crystals when I was there in Sept. 2017.

It is still the Smart mine , so that is accurate. As for the local, taking GPS coordinates helps to get the exact location.
