We went to Sodalite Rock farm yesterday :-) the family had a great time, kids had a blast, also stopped at the "For the Halibut" fish and chips restaurant, had a chance to speak to the owner- Natasha. FOOD was AMAZING. On the way back stopped at the Kawatha Ice cream place, kids loved it, scoops were really big and the price was cheap as well. As usual, thanks for posting great videos, 👍
SOOO HAPPY to hear that you guys had fun!!!! Appreciate the feedback! :) And yes For the Halibut is REALLY yummy!
That looks like a ton of fun, and not a bad price per pound. Amethyst in tourist shops is expensive.
Shouldn't have hacked the layered rock up. Wasn't a rock from the ground it was petrified wood you can even see the mineralization and tree road NGS she calls layers. They hold information about the past for a scientist.
I love how you pronounce sodalite
I love it, thank you for the tip!
Any time!! :)
we are comming in July!
You will have so much fun! Make sure to bring hammer/goggles/closed toe shoes/gloves and get the $5 geode from the store to crack! it's so much fun
One day you should road trip up to Thunder Bay. So much amethyst!
New to Rockhounding, if I go to Thunder Bay is there public mines or is it like a pay per lbs mine?
@@tpets There are pay-to-dig sites like Panorama, Blue Points, but there are also places along the road you can find a bit.
@@thirstfast1025 Awesome! We are just starting to really get into this. Today we tried to find some garnets in our area but was unsuccessful. ( searching was fun though.. )
@@tpets Garnets can be tough to hound. They usually form as part of the rock, whereas something like amethyst is localized to veins. They sure are pretty tho! Glad you're getting into it! Just keep some safety in mind too, gloves boots and glasses are my normal go-to. Keep having fun! Cheers!
Next time bring a uv flashlight so you can find more fluorites
Oh interesting idea!
I don't know why you're smashing those fine rocks like Neanderthals.
That looks like petrified wood she just hacked a big piece in bits for fun. She must not know it was more valuable as a big solid piece..
Very strange English, sorry not getting what you're trying to say. Also it costs $2 per pound so yes I will be cracking what is useless.
Oh, they bring the rocks there? So basically they go through and pick all the good stuff out first and thats the leftovers. So chances of finding something really good is zero.
Not sure what to say...if you're looking for diamonds for SURE do not go here :))))) there is tons of stuff though, but we all value things differently
No, the owners buy rocks and crystals from all over and seed the rock farm for rockhounds to go through. The Sodalite mine there is off limits to collectors. So to answer your question, visitors go through the material, not the owners. Best just go to Crown land collecting sites in Haliburton anyway.
Didn’t you watch the video. Looks like a lot of cool stuff to me. If you are looking to become a millionaire, then no. But if you are just a casual rock enthusiast then it looks well worth it to me.
