Ah yes. I relate to Kevin making the regular mistake of shooting while the baddies are immune and not realizing why it takes a million bullets to drop one guy.
I don't know if it was intentional or a coincidence but the game is made by Finnish people and "alan" is a word in Finnish that translates to "I'm starting to"
So Alan Wake could be taken as "I'm starting to wake (up)". I just think that's cool. :)
It's also coincidentally similar to Alan Wakefield, the scientist infamous for publishing the study that claimed vaccines cause autism that so many still stubbornly cling to believing today despite the many flaws of the study pointed out by peer reviews and mountains of counrer-evidence.

But dont worry people, he has just started marketing his all new vaccine to treat the same thing as that "dodgy" one. The infamous antivax paper is actually still provax. Amazing

Man, this takes me back. This was my first real horror game. Also, being a writer myself, this is my literal nightmare scenario X,D. Glad to see this game is getting the love it deserves (and that I'm not the only one that loved trying to get him to jump off things lol.) Great video as always Kevin!

i have an original alan wake physical copy that i bought in 2013. it was only 5 bucks (can you believe it?). the box it came with was amazing. it had postcards of the town he was in and a map and some other cool stuff. it was really awesome even back then and am happy to see a remaster came out and now new people are getting introduced to the series. i just wish they still had released a physical copy like that :(

Kevin can make any game terrifying.
You know as someone who has lucid dreams, hallucination and sleep paralysis the scary part is that you can be awake enough to feel your body and how it's lying in bed but you can't move because the rest of your brain is still sleeping/dreaming. Also this suffocating feeling of something dragging you asleep but the you try to snap out of it every time to breath and when you actually properly wake yourself up in the middle of your REM sleep shit gets trippy.
Order is usually this: (Lucid Dreaming>Sleep paralysis>Hallucinations)
(Also I haven't had nightmares in ages but hallucinations are on another level because you're awake and you can't tell what's real and what isn't even afterwards it's like it was the most real thing especially sound and skin contact is scary because you in that moment and even afterwards you can swear upon anything that it's real and it happened because from your perspective there was no difference. So it's not too weird of a thought that in someway it is real but just not in this world/dimension. There's really just no 100% way to tell whether it's just you or it's more then that. You should always be skeptical of anything or anyone having to do with something super natural because most of the time especially if they are so open about it it's fake and/or they are trying to exploit it. But don't be complete fool and deny even the possibility of something super natural because that's just narrow-minded even if you are secular.)
Hey I have the same thing happen to me! It's always sleep paralysis, same thing every time. I'm in a dream, floating in water on my back. Then I start sinking and I can't move. I can still breathe because just my face is above water. I don't like having this dream so I will wake myself up from it and 100% of the time I am lying in my bed on my back, in the same position as my dream.
I've also had sleep hallucinations but that's less common for me. One time I woke up and saw a 3 foot long spider on the wall. This thing looked like a Halloween decoration! It took me half a second to realize it was a hallucination because spiders that big don't exist. In America, at least. Idk about Australia. (jk)
Btw, REM disturbances and lucid dreaming is more common in people with narcolepsy.

That's not lucid dreaming, that's sleep paralysis.
Lucid dreaming means you know you're dreaming while in REM sleep and have a measure of control over your dreams.

But I was mentioning the "scary" parts lucid dreaming is not that scary. but when you get too "awake" it can cause other things.
For instance when I'm controlling my dreams semi-unconsciously everything is fine but if I get too conscious of the things I'm doing it's not good.
*(I edited it now to include sleep paralysis didn't know it was called that and considering it is an indirect effect of my lucid dreaming I included it without mentioning that it's not the lucid dreaming itself)*

Yeah with me it isn't always the same dream though and I also have lucid dreaming meaning I can accidently wake myself up when becoming too conscious this in turn can cause the hallucination but all this stuff mostly doesn't happen if I make sure I don't have too many blankets over or am too warm.
Yeah my hallucination have been my dad talking to my sister in her room which I only later found out didn't happen.
And people or things standing behind me at my head side and one time even grabbing my arm which felt way too real for anyone to convince me it didn't happen.
Also lights and sound that keep going after I open my eyes.
And a weird kind of headache hard to describe even though I have a chronic headache(r.i.p) this is different.
Sometimes I am not sure though if the hallucination happened before or after I am able to move and open my eyes.
*the sinking feeling is exactly right though but I just don't have a specific image with it. apart from maybe the feeling that my very soul gets dragged to the center of the earth XD*
And every time I go back up to breath but quickly get dragged down until I eventually wake myself up.
I only ever dream of water when I'm really tired and my balance disorder gets worse making it feel like you are on a swing or on waves on the water (in a non-pleasant way).

This is one of my old favorites. I played this game so many times. Kevin, I'd love to see you play more. If you do, though, I have a tip: Burn away the darkness before shooting. There's no point in shooting until they are vulnerable.
Genuinely looks the same as I last played it several years ago.
Like a lot of remasters, it looks the same until you look up a comparison video. Quite a visual upgrade. Some people still prefer the original one for the nostalgia, because they're more used to the original face model, or because they think original one looks grittier (I also agree; the original textures look "dirtier" in some cases). From a technical standpoint, this version looks a lot better, although the original version still holds up pretty well.

@@majortritone funnily enough the only thing I miss from the original was the product placement. Use the Energizer branded flashlight and your Verizon phone to fight the Darkness
As someone who 100%-ed the original game about a month ago, I really enjoyed the video. I hope Kevin does more.
