You forget how much he’s sacrificed,
Okay so I think I get it? The whole loop is in your head, while your father talks to you. The husband is trying to imagine some kind of future where he can be with his sister, who he really didn't know was his sister at first but still loved, and the only problem is, he can't think of a way to get their father to accept this, and probably less so for his sister once she knows, so he can only think of an outcome resulting in his dad dying. He doesn't want this, hence why it's an unintended murder, but he knows his death is going to catch up to the two of them eventually, and there's no excusing his actions. The cop sounds and looks similar, because he's representative of his father's interference. The whole murder mystery and him trying to prove his wife's innocence? Just him trying to push back the consequences of his imagined actions further, buy more time and ignore the problem. Hell, his sister tells him she shot him out of self defense too, the whole thing is full of foreshadowing and it's awesome. All in all, he wasn't Willem Dafoe or Dafriend, but rather, Willem Dafather.
Great theory and the last sentence was the cherry on top!

Actually he did right there. The way it would've worked would've been to first tell "her" what was up and only afterward make the call otherwise he needed to leave the room first.

It's even worse when you consider the fact that she's pregnant.
He lived in the Alabama of Ireland
I was going to comment on how that didn't seem to sink in for him. It was the first thing that threw me off bad playing through.
So basically the whole time loop thing is in the main characters head. The father revealed that his sister is his girlfriend and the time loop is his way of coping with that fact. The time loop is also him trying to think of ways that the relationship would work, and the cop represents the interference of the Father. If you decide to leave the sister/wife then the loop will end, however if you decide to stay in the relationship then the loop continues. The continuation of the loop being relative to the relationship shows that there is no way this relationship could work, ever.
That's basically what's going on. Anyways, great video as always Kevin :)
Oh dang, that's really clever and would make sense!
@@honeyfungi also the cancer bumblebee has is a manifestation of your love with your half sister. Even without the fathers interference, sooner or later that cancer grows, spreads and the truth will come out leading to a horrible divorce
it could work if you don't have kids and hopefully not kill anyone
I think the looping part of the game is a dream brought on by the protagonist's hypnosis, where he imagines how the future will be if he actually were to be with her; a very bad future. He imagines himself as the monster he would be; having killed his father and lied to his (now *pregnant* )wife for almost a decade. The "cop" is a characterization of his fear and guilt. "Cop" has the face and voice of his father, and the goal of taking away everything he shouldn't have in the first place to save his daughter, just like the protagonist's actual dad. Not to mention his strength and quickness to abuse it to further his goals. Anyways, moral of the story: just because you think you really want something, that doesn't mean it's what's best for you, or anyone else.
another moral of the story: incest bad
@@Chalycees While that is true, the story never focuses on how it is, more on how he knows he would be doing the wrong thing, and how far that could snowball.
oooooh so that's why the baby clothing had his mother's (who is also the nanny) name, it was his subconscious
Yeah that's it! From what I've seen the loops are in his mind and the conversations with the dad actually happen in real life. People have said that the loops are in his head as a mental fight, and in the end he escapes the loop by moving on from his feeling for his sister, in this case by hypnosis.
@@LAL7887 Yeah, I think it's the only interpretation that makes sense.

@your rage YOUR RAGE DESERVES DISLIKES!
When I watched anyone else play. I immediately think, why are they not flushing everything. Like that’s how your supposed to play game.
I love all the random dialogue these characters have in reaction to what Kevin is doing. Really gives him a chance to fool around. Its the best when it doesn't make sense lol
I had to watch an “all endings” compilation (by MKIceandFire) and read the comments to really understand what was going on here.
TLDR: I believe none of it was real and the protagonist is in a therapy session talking about a woman he is obsessed with but can’t have.
From my perspective all the scenarios and time loops are made up in the protagonist’s head. There was no killer, no cop, and the whole thing was the protagonist imagining different scenarios where his relationship with a woman he loves could work out.
In the ending Kevin gets (called Continue) he realizes that there is no way to move past it and decides to let the “father” hypnotize him to forget it all. However, there is another ending called Mindfulness (the only other ending that actually ends the game and the “true” ending I believe) where the protagonist ignores the “father” in the final scene and stares at the clock until it eventually stops. In this ending the “father’s” voice changes and he tells the protagonist that he has to let her go and his way of thinking is unhealthy. The way I see it, this last sequence of the protagonist looking at the clock is the true ending and everything else is just the protagonist’s imagination.
Personally I believe that nothing about the time loops, the apartment, and the relationship with the “sister” is real. I believe that the “father” is actually the protagonist’s therapist who is trying to convince the protagonist that a relationship with the woman he is obsessing over would never work. The father and cop characters (yes they’re the same person both voiced by Defoe) represent the therapist tearing apart the fantasy worlds the protagonist has imagined. The baby, the protagonist and wife being siblings, and more represent obstacles blocking his way. As the scenarios progress the protagonist includes those elements in his fantasy because he is subconsciously realizing that he could never be with the woman he desires, no matter how hard he tries to make it work.
In my opinion, the only true ending is Mindfulness where the protagonist is finally confronted by his therapist and the clock stops for good.
This is all my interpretation of course and there are many other ways to look at it. But without seeing the other endings this game can be very confusing. I highly recommend the compilation video by MKIceandFire to see all the endings and read the comments to decide what you believe. Great video as always!
Thank you, My mind was fucked but this kinda helped me!
I feel the reason why the relationship with the woman doesn't work because the woman he's obsessed about is his half sister.
@@Commander_Shepard. They definitely could be related but in my opinion they might not be. I think it’s up to interpretation if they are or not.

7:03 - "I'm feeling exhausted" - Ronald Weasley, who's off to bed.
His obsession with calling his favourite celebrities by sliiiightly the wrong name is very funny
Ooh you got the ending that started the time loop! There's another ending where he accepts that it isn't healthy for him to go for his sister romantically, then leaves without getting his mind wiped on his own accord. Some people believe the ending with a therapist is the only ending based in reality and that none of the alternate scenarios which included violence actually happened (his marriage, the confrontation with his dad, etc).

I love the bit where he said flower name and hovered over the present in his inventory, completely unaware.
Honestly having “her name was flowery” connect with the baby clothes for thier new child has absolutely no reason to be the answer in that moment.
Atleast if there is any reason it escape me
@@ValentineC137 The cop names off two names that start with a D and the player can either connect that to the baby clothes or the flower on it
@@ValentineC137 It doesn't make any sense because the time loop is all in his head, according to some theorists. A lot of the different aspects of the story are loosely related because they're all of his subconscious as he's sitting in that chair in front of his father.
The more details you get in the story the more you realize that all of it bullshit essentially. His wife didn't kill her father in self defense, as the ending scene would have you believe that the protagonist did in the altercation with the father. The cop kept calling him a monster as the protagonist let him bleed out on the floor, a nod to the fact that that's what the protagonist was called because he was a bastard child. Same with the baby clothes having his mother's name on them.
It's a trippy mindfucking metaphor for an incestuous relationship. The whole thing is apparently a construction in his head and that's why none of it makes any sense whatsoever, and why william dafoe plays two characters at the same time, it's a figment of his imagination. Maybe even the confrontation with his father is a construct too, as some people have likened the father to his therapist and the player's obsession with the clock is how long it is until his therapy session ends.
@@NightmareBlade10 I was going to adress that by mentioning earlier that "it only kinda makes sense once you have completed the game" but by then you would already know you need to give him the baby clothes, so that doesn't qualify as knowledge used to indicate you should hand the guy your unborn baby's clothing that you've only opened once right near the start of the game.
Stuff like the faulty lightswitch get's mentioned by the wife as an example, or the messages in the guy's phone saying he loves his daughter indicating you might be able to get her to stop him. There's just nothing that points to the baby clothing's design being important to you.
They could have had a conversation where she asks something along the lines of "Do you like the design" and then one of your responses could include specifically saying something about the fact it has flowers, and have the option to select is include the word Flowers in it.
I feel it would be wrong to assume you would it on your mind when you only commonly interact with the [present] and not the [flowery baby clothing]
Now that I think about it, you could even have him specifically say the baby clothes have flowers on them when he mentions them to his wife to prove he's in a timeloop, atleast then it might not be forgotten, but ofcourse people would quickly start skipping that dialogue.
TL;DR nothing is really there to make you take notice of the fact that the clothing has flowers, or that the baby's name starts with a D
@@ValentineC137 Very true. They definitely could have put a better hint in their or something. Maybr instead of baby clothes it could have been a vase of dahlias on the dinner table or something more obvious. There's not really any logical reason in giving the cop the baby clothes.

Willem Dafoe has always scared me. This game just gives me a reason to be scared.
I'm so happy there's a continuation!
Hagrid
My theory on what is happening in the game is a mental breakdown of sorts.
The main character is his wife's half brother, he killed their father because their father wanted to keep them apart (understandable considering that they are related) and then supressed that memory in order to be happy with the woman he loved.
Years later, he finds out that she's pregnant (if you follow the game prompts in the first play through this tends to be one of the first things you learn) and the reality of everything hits him. He got his sister pregnant and their unborn baby is a product of incest. This is socially unacceptable and would be quickly associated with words like monster, thereby bringing back the memory of what happened with his father.
This information/memory pushes the main character into a mental breakdown and he starts experiencing the cop (a protective father figure) coming to avenge the death of their father and to hopefully find a way to save his daughter.
The main character is desperately searching for a way to justify their situation and find a happy ending for everyone involved but there is no good outcome. If he accepts reality then he is an incestuous murderer but if he fights against it then either he or his wife dies or he ends up murdering another father who is just trying to protect his daughter (essentially repeating the past).
He's stuck in a loop because none of these outcomes are desirable.
You could also make an argument that the cop's daughter's cancer is an analogy for the main character and that the stop watch represents the time that was in essence stolen from their father in order to prolong their relationship.
For once I was more evil than Kevin! I danced with the wife then told her I’m her brother
6:59 This is really accurate considering the twist is the cop is your wife’s dad and you’re the dad’s bastard child with the nanny and are therefore married to your half sister, otherwise known as his daughter.
