Hey, we're Chad and Paul. We lived a pretty typical life up until a few years ago. Chad was a speech-language pathologist and Paul was an attorney. We worked in New York City and by all means were set. But we didn't feel settled. We wanted something different. We started a bunch of online businesses, quit our 9-5's and now we live an unconventional life in our van (a 21' Winnebago Travato). Follow along with us on our journey.

We’ve had our Storyteller Overland Stealth since October and have gone on two week long camping trips and some weekend get always all in cold weather. This van is impressive! The bathroom situation is not a problem because we use the pit toilets and campgrounds during the day and only use the porta potty at night. We don’t store ours in the shower pan, we put ours behind the driver’s seat with a blanket over the top. There is still room to seat one at the table and the passenger seat turned around (We like the configuration best because it leaves the driver’s seat ready for use.There is plenty of storage in all the overhead bins and the drawers are really BIG. I can fit my 3 qt. Instant pot in the bottom drawer with room to spare and there are three more drawers for utensils and food. The bin up front is used for our coffee maker and coffee. The fridge is fairly large and is very deep. We can keep a weeks worth of food in there plus room for beverages. Two half gallon cartons of milk and a small bottle of wine can fit in the door alone. The freezer isn’t huge but it’s deep. I’ve put in four frozen stir fry meals in bags and two single entree frozen meals in there at the same time.
As far as power and the battery system....amazing. We’ve have never had to plug in to shore power, even in the middle of winter. We simply leave it at home so we have extra space in the garage area. If you’re going to stay in one place without driving anywhere for more than a week, you will probably need the cord. However, since this is a vehicle and you aren’t towing a car (even though you could with the tow rating on this) just driving into town will charge your batteries sufficiently. The heater works really good and only uses a fraction of the diesel to heat the space and will turn off if your fuel gets too low. You will never run out of fuel because of the heater. Okay...should probably stop there even though I can keep going. The roof is a great place to watch the sunset or have coffee while you watch the sun rise. It’s one of our favorite places to drink our coffee. :)

Thank you for the great video. Love the storyteller. I would miss having the stationary toilet and bed already set up. It would be concerning to me if there was another lockdown. Does it have hanging closet or hooks? Hooks on the back to hang a hammock? Too bad they couldn’t build in the toilet with cassette access from the outside like some other vans? Love your videos. I have been RVing for 15 years with 3 different rigs and this is the most capable, functional RV I have ever seen. My hat is off to the folks at Storyland. If I was 15 years younger, I would buy one tomorrow. Wow, you guys did what I didn't think was possible.

This is a nice van, with a lot of innovative ideas, but the lack of lavatory on board is a "no go" for me. Chad mentions doing his business onboard "only in case of emergency." I'm just the opposite, the only time I do my business in public is "in case of emergency". Using public facilities as your primary place to relieve yourself, is taking a lot for granted in terms of sanitation standards, privacy, and a sense of well being. None of which I want to worry about when I "gotta go" in the middle of the night, or when it cold, rainy, snowy, or during other inclement weather conditions!
There is a cassette toilet, but I know it’s not everyone’s thing. We’re thinking it’s a plus for us, but expect a thorough (and potentially graphic) review if we move into one! Lol
Amazingly I just got sign-off from the boss on this van. It's a 2.5 gal cassette, which is good for the late night visits for the missus and Mister Hamster Bladder. That shower curtain can be used as the privacy stall.
I like the Revel, but its separate bathroom is Amtrak-ish and not 6-4 friendly. The STO's wide open floorplan and bigger bed are 🔥.

I call that my “single me" van because I would buy it in a heartbeat if I were single. I’m not however and the bathroom is a no-go for my wife so the Ekko is at the top of our "married me" list.😂

Yup! I’m in the same boat. The dog and I could go have fun out in some out of the way places but the wife, not so much. If we decided to do a traditional camp ground with bathrooms, different story. But that van is built to go boondocking!
I think it’s very cool! I know I would enjoy it. I like the quality built into it. And it’s a decent size to get around with. All weather and electric power to spare. I’m a little hesitant about making the bed ready every night. Besides the bed, it’s something to consider!😊
I was thinking the same about the bed but decided if there really isn't anything we'd need to get at in the back, just to leave it down or at least leave the table leg side down with sleeping bags and pillows folded up on that side. Not really worried about the bathroom thing after years of backpacking. We have one on order to be delivered in May. Our use will all be off in the woods somewhere, maybe at a trailhead or up in the puckerbrush pulled over by a stream for a few days.

Well, the Storyteller is certainly a neat quality product! Good presentation by the builder! I'm sitting on pins and needles waiting to hear the reveal! I have to say, for me, the open bathroom wouldn't work but I can see it working for you boys! And, it's amazing how many retailers that have closed their bathrooms to the public here in California. Safe travels! :o)

I think the decision has been made! Initially I was turned off by the bathroom but you’ve made some good points about it’s use.

We have been cross country a couple times in our 4 door Silverado p/u . Camping and hotel’s and it was awesome. We usually go for 5 weeks at a time. We definitely want a van similar to yours. We have had trailers in the past and don’t want the hassle of that. I don’t want to make a mistake buying our first van. Your videos are a big help in our discussion, thanks again.

I am super impressed by that shower!! and I'm definitely up for trying a cassette toilet - when used just for emergencies... I would LOVE this van if the two sections of "Murphy bed" came down with a space between... so each person could have their own sleeping space. My hubby and I sleep better that way. All in all... a really well thought out van build. I hope to see you IN IT and all your fun/explicit reviews!!! 😊 including the cassette toilet dumping! happy holidays and happy trails!!

Wow very cool van! But having the toilet in the lounge is a problem for me, because there are those times where you just need to go to the bathroom and you don’t want to think about setting it up or where is it. Your current van, you get up you walk down the aisle, and you’re in the bathroom. That is a great feature. Maybe you need to think about a fold out table for your van do you make it work better for both of you guys? By the way I love your van!
I understand the Bathroom takes room and everything but you never know when you are going to need it and this times that is so crazy with Covid not many places let you use restrooms or facility’s I should know because our job my husband has a medical condition and we get sent away .. Great looking van by the way good luck with the Cassette toilet.. Lol

Thanks! The shower set up in the Storyteller is actually easier to set up than our Travato (which has way too many snaps! lol). I understand the concern about a lack of fixed toilet, but we're kind of excited to give a cassette toilet a go! For the way we use the van it actually makes more sense.

With the right chair the rear bed down on one side makes a huge desk. But that would limit the storage. Better quality than a Revel for sure and at the same price point. Personally I love the captains lounge in the Travato K (bathroom). Custom toilet seat cover and custom desk that fits on top of a pulled out drawer and problem solved. Also Travato owners can mount a Lagune table or consider having a smaller table made to mount in the floor mount. One suggestion for Story Teller - You need to grain match the cabinets. Each side should be made from a single pattern. Random faces just do not look right. Oh and could you add a few more feet to this design please....is there a longer story teller in the future?

I love the build, very versatile. I do however wish it was available in a front wheel drive RAM to possibly cut down on the cost.The only other thing, was that fan seemed a little loud. Maybe it was just a fluke.

I love the Storyteller! Only negative is the 21 gal water tank. You could plumb a pee funnel into your gray tank and use the cassette for #2 emergencies.
It’s so cool right? Not a bad idea on a pee funnel! 21 gal is still more than we have in our larger T! Lol

You two almost got me! I thought for sure you decided to get one. 😂 I love the storyteller line. So well built and though out. I agree about the toilet situation. It’s not the dumping that bothers me but the “public use” of sitting on the middle of the garage using it 😂 it would not bother me but my wife may have a different opinion. Other then that it’s perfect. Add some storage boxes up top or on the back from OWL and your done. I would love one and would really enjoy some out west, outback boondocking. We have the Stealth. We keep the porta potty up front behind the driver’s seat and only use it at night. With the groove lounge up you have a privacy wall that makes it more private.

Great informative video. Tim did a great job showing his van. Where is the tv?? 🤷..I liked the extensive power system and four season capiabiity. . Wishing they were offering a unit on the Ford chassis!!
Haha the tv is gone! 🙌 We had so many issues with ours and hardly used it. We mostly us our iPad and computer to stream movies! I think their prototype may have been on the transit- check out we’re the Russo’s. I think they did some videos on it. Thanks for watching! 🤙

A cassette toilet isn't as bad to empty guys as u think.. I have one in my van here in the uk and empty it in public toilets without any issues... Love ur vids.. Enjoy finding that special van for ur selves.. Merry Christmas to u both and stay safe.

Haha thanks Scott! I think I’ve finally convinced Paul! When you step back and think about it (at least for us), a system like what’s in the Storyteller makes perfect sense.
We have a Storyteller Stealth Mode 2021 and it is really awesome. The bathroom situation is not bad at all. We store the porta potty under the swivel table up front and with the lounge up it creates a wall between the person using it in the middle of the night. The shower is really awesome and the curtain is not sticky at all. The curtain dries very quickly with the ceiling fan turned on. You can also take the curtain off and wash it if you want.

My favorite is the one that you guys and Kevin in 30 and a wake up have. I just like the openness of it and the rear bathroom. Although im seeing to many issues with the bathroom from both channels. But the design he just showed but amazing. Its a great set up. I would rather have a permanent bed but that was so easy to set up. I loved it. And yes he out your mustache to shame lol.

Hehe- I had to shave my moustache after that lol! The openness of the Travato is great, which is why we love the Storyteller too- it feels so open!

Great review ... we by passed them to get the 2021 Revel.... cost less ... fully loaded Revel 2021 at 127,900.00... no one could beat that price when we looked around in Aug of 2020

Love the van. I’d be concerned about the storage (other than the garage) and the cost of maintenance for Mercedes sprinters
Don’t be. The cost of maintenance on any modern vehicle is comparable. The design of the ram and transit make it so work is actually harder to do. I know this because I’ve worked on all three doing suspension and camper build upgrades. The sprinter is incredibly easy to work on both inside and out. I would reconsider your thoughts if your only holdback is maintenance. In reality what costs more? Replacing your van at 100k miles or having a van that will drive to 1M if well taken care of.
I hear people absolutely hate sticky wet shower curtains, and having to dry them for storage

Chad and Paul, Congrats on your NEW Storyteller. Wow. I LOVE this Van too. I'm looking for a HYBRID, AWD, ECO-VAN for road trips like you can get in other parts of the world. I'm interested in a HYBRID AWD eco-van model that interfaces with technology like the Storyteller so you can have your computer on board for road trips ANYWHERE in N. America. This is a GREAT little van for road trips, and WE NEED AN ECO VAN for the N. American market. All it's missing is a hybrid model.
To the company: Thank you for bringing these Storyteller vans to North America. I have a LOT of questions about the STORYTELLER! THIS is the kind of Van I'm looking for but I don't want ALL electric or all-gas. I need a hybrid model. There are quality, affordable, hybrid eco-vans everywhere in Europe and other parts of the world (hybrid eco-vans made by Ford, Dodge, VW, Mercedes, and others.) I would love to know more about this van! I want to talk to you about how to make this work as an eco-van here in N. America!

I’ve looked at these several times and they are pretty incredible. Super high quality. Wasn’t crazy about the cassette toilet and the sink for full time living. Cassette toilets seem to be creating problems in public bathrooms. And there is the price. Pushing $200,000 these days? And the Mercedes maintenance is significant.

Winnebago revel has 2/many up grades needed to compete with your Mercedes Benz Storyteller Beast Mode 4x4 is clearly The Winner! Powerful package in such a small Mercedes-Benz sprinter….This is just my personal opinion and my choice……

What a nice van tour with Captain Tim of the Storyteller Overland Stealth. I really love the way you allow these van innovators to express their passion for their products. It checks off almost all your big tickets items. I forget if you've mentioned this in a previous video, but have you been able to drive a Sprinter to get a feel for the driving? I know you have some issues with your RAM ProMaster and that you liked the feel of the Ford Transit but I wasn't sure if you've reviewed a Sprinter. I want a 2022 in this model my only concern (at 6'3") is I won't fit at the rear of the bed or even diagonally. When the rep was laying in the bed there was no extra room and he said he was 6'1"?

Definitely a well built van with a nice layout. Practically speaking though, you won't want to take apart and make that bed every day so it likely will remain down all the time. You should take a hard look at it and see how you can deal with that small space with the bed down all the time. Seems very tight for two people and a dog
It feels a lot bigger when you’re inside and it’s actually the same size as our old travato minus the bathroom (which we typically didn’t use on the reg anyways)
Something to think about but I am worried about the bathroom just don't know how my wife would like it. All in all very nice van.

Yeah Ia m still not sure on cassette toilet, And I agree it is a peace of mind to know it is there and like some one else said lots of bathrooms closed now. I do think I would be ok w/ that shower, How often and how does one clean a composting toilet? I think he spent too much time on tech stuff, needed to see more of kitchen..what about the fridge/freezer? Pantry? drawers for dishes etc? Wardrobe for clothes?
If you film the first cassette toilet use, how about doing it after a few beers on that amazing roof top deck and then you fall off the toilet? :-).
It is an amazing van, I have been looking online and do see much of anything available..Travato's, Class B in general...
Where's my tv? Nice to have to relax at night when it's raining or snowing.

Just a thought on the toilet...since you won't be using it that much you might want to look into a Laveo dry flush or a C-head composting toilet. Both more comfortable to use and dispose options than a cassette.

@@ChadandPaul Took another look at that shower location on another video and the seat may be too low so that may be why they are using the smaller cassette. Oh well, it was an idea,
Lots of great ideas, seems like just a matter of the right combination for folks' needs. Some of the things he sort of claimed no one else does are in your Travato already (like Volta). Looked like no separate freezer in the small fridge, compared to Travato Gs. Will the heater compare to the Truma Combi, and is it ducted?
Compared to our KL we think the storyteller is a huge step up. Diesel furnace (don’t have to deal with propane fill), instant on demand hot water, you can access the fridge while standing up outside (we had to crouch in our K) and can cook outside on the fold out table with the portable induction stove top. The biggest upgrade for us is the ability to have multiple work stations (so Chad isn’t in the bed all day), still have separate beds if we want, four season (no more winterizing), roof deck, a better chassis, 4x4, and of course far superior build quality. We’ll see how things are when we move in, but for now we’re quite excited about the features.
