    I initially ordered a Revel back in 2017 but I finally got to see one I was disappointed in how small the drawers were and was not impressed with the seating and minimal storage. I cancelled the order and having found the Russos, ordered a Hymer Aktiv. When it finally came in the dealer was having a lot of trouble fixing all the faults and the local RAM dealer smoked the main ECM and said it would be at least two months to get a replacement. Cancelled the Hymer and ordered a Travato GL which I bought. It was good for travelling and I loved the Volta system and storage but not the RAM or the placement of the Volta battery. Used it for a year and a half then sold it and built a removable camper into a F150 4x4 which I'm now using for off-road capability. Loved the reviews of the Storyteller Modes but was fearful of all the Mercedes problems. I kept hoping they would produce Modes on the Quigley Transit as initially planned but when STO finally announced the Mode LT I ordered one a few minutes after the announcement. When it arrives, I will be selling my house and moving in. Hoping that I'm not too old at 76 to live the Van Life and that the LT is more reliable than the Sprinters. Plan to do a lot of fly fishing, traveling and boondocking. Homebase will be my daughter's driveway in Vancouver WA. Interesting that the Russos have an LT on order, too.

    Planning on buying the base Mode then having Owl turn it into the Ultimate Beast - he even has rear locker now (soon). And he’ll hook you up with 35’s and awesome wheels too. Anyway, that’s my dream. Going to take a year or so to realize. Super video as usual Talon…say hi to Mike for me!

    Thanks for this and other great video(s). I like how you cover a lot of ground in a clear, level-headed way. I was going to buy a 130" WB, MR Ford Transit Cargo van to have someone modify as a camper. Ford just stopped making them. Now I am not sure what I'll do. Your videos are helpful in many ways. I learned a lot from you, whether I end up getting either or neither of these two options. Since you asked, I'd probably get the Storyteller built on a Ford chassis. I want to have a vehicle that can be repaired just about anywhere.

    I'd probably go with the StoryTeller Classic or Stealth, and do a few mods to get it where I wanted it. Though in reality I'd probably have to buy a used Chevy/GMC/Ford cargo van and build my own "SatVan", to make it economically feasible, lol. Great vid as usual Talon~

    I own a Storyteller Classic Mode that’s been modified (VanCompass 4.3 Suspension, Owl Rear Tire carrier and B2 Rack with large box, Warn EVO 12S winch, ARB twin compressor, Lightforce lights, Renntech HHT, PedalControl, and a bunch of interior mods) and I can tell you from personal experience that Talon is completely right when he talked about the buying/ownership experience. When we bought our van we had an issues with the Mercedes Benz chassis on the second day. We had to get towed to a dealership and had to stay in a hotel. That evening I got a call from the VP of STO to make sure we were okay and if we needed anything. I can guarantee you that NOBODY from Winnebago will be calling you when you’ve got an issue.
    The bathroom was a big issue for us when we first started to look for a van and we actually had a deposit on a 4x4 Winnebago BOLDT because of it having the Volta system (This is a MAJOR difference between the STO and Revel), but after actually looking at some Winnebagos in the dealership we switched to the Storyteller. We took care of the toilet issue by upgrading to a Wrappon Green. This was a great comparison by Talon and hopefully it will people make a more informed decision.

    That power supply on the STO is simply amazing. For us in Canada we cannot import the STO yet, but we can for the Revel. Also the Mercedes warranty disappears as soon as we do register either one in Canada. Such a gongshow for people who just want to explore North America in a Class B 4x4.

    Awesome video and comparison! I actually bought my van from watching your earlier videos of you trekking through the U.S. (The Death Valley video was great and scary so we had to go, too!) After checking out the Revel and others, we decided to go with a Thor Tranquility and modify it ourselves. The price difference between the two was a huge factor (roughly 80K) and with that difference we upgraded the heck out of it with lithium (the Thor had AGM batteries but we kept the generator which works out great), off road suspension, Nomadic AC, Owl stuff and tons of other things. Next is a bumper and winch. Yet we are way under the Revel price.

  • @TaterGrabbinBass
    @TaterGrabbinBass 2 роки тому +2

    I’ve been wanting a Revel or something similar for years now, I’d do most of the things you’ve done to your Revel and the Canyon Adventures garage add ons are a total must! Plus your Revel looks badass and is far more functional than stock (obviously). The only downside is that the interior is small and segmented and I really like open vans, especially if you’re going to live in it for weeks, months or years on end, it just feels like it’d be cramped. The Jayco that Mike from LLOD had before he got his new van had a great layout but you don’t get the capabilities of something like the Revel. There’s just so many damn options that it’ll make your head spin.
    But if you sell the Revel, I’d probably have to put a bid on it if you were to get into something new and if that were to be an option. Love the content, long time sub! Keep up the great work and Stay Frosty! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼

    • @calebwalters3096
      @calebwalters3096 Рік тому +1

      The Jayco Terrain or Entegra Launch are actually way more capable than the Revel. 3x bigger lithium system. On board air compressor. Upgrade sway bar and shocks. Front light bar. Rear passenger seats both slide forward, recline, and spread apart to give passengers more room. Mercedes chassis is full spec’d out with 360-degree camera, power, heated, and memory front seats, all of the safety features, etc. The kitchen countertops extend to give you more prep space. There are several other items I haven’t listed.

    • @TaterGrabbinBass
      @TaterGrabbinBass Рік тому

      @@calebwalters3096 I wouldn’t say they’re “more capable” they have minor differences but they’re both capable because they’re on the exact same chassis. I looked at the Jayco Terrain and the quality of the 2 I looked at were very bad and the Entegra Launch is just a rebranded Jayco since Jayco owns Entegra and falls under the Jayco umbrella. tThe 2 passenger seats are pretty unnecessary and so uncomfortable unless you’re a small child or someone who wants to literally be sitting on the person next to them even with the seats spread out, the memory power seats are an absolute nightmare to flip around and the 144 Sprinter is best for 2 adults or 2 adults and 1 child or dog. I ended up getting a used 2020 Revel that the previous owner did a ton of upgrades to, onboard air front/rear, RoamRig stage 3 lithium upgrade, RIP Kit and other things which for the price I got it at was something I couldn’t pass up and I absolutely love the van.

    Great Review! Yup, the shower/toilet is exactly what broke it for me on the Storyteller. I actually had my own version of the "Halo" shower system in my Promaster for the last seven years and my wife was not very amused with it. I just about pulled the trigger on a Revel, but luckily found and bought the Jayco/Terrain AKA Launch instead...way more premium features for the same or less money. I didn't know Jayco made one of these. You're right, it looks much more refined inside. Winnebago cabinetry has always looked like cheap crap to me. Fine for a 1970 RV, not so fine when you're now spending over $200k for a van.

      @@OMGWTFLOLSMH That's MSRP, no one pays that, everyone including myself got thier vans waaay cheaper. Although at the moment there's really no haggling on the dealers reduced prices (which are reasonable I guess) due to the fact that this is the last year of the Sprinter 4X4 chasis, and inventory is getting really hard to find. Great video, there were a lot of great insights about the Stealth in you series. I have a Stealth mode on order. I have a few questions about the bathroom comments you made. You talk about the shower set up in the storyteller taking time to set up. When you showed the bathroom in the revel it had a bunch of shelves for storage. Don’t you have to move those to use the bathroom? What do you do with all the stuff and the shelves when you want to use the bathroom? It seems like that would take a lot more time to fiddle around with?

    • @TalonSei
      @TalonSei  2 роки тому +2

      If I am storing stuff in the bathroom I simply move it to the seat. If I'm not storing anything I just set the shelves on the floor next to the toilet and shower like normal. Even when storing stuff the Revel situation is way more convenient and quicker. I can turn the fan on to let it dry and start driving right after a shower where as the storyteller, it takes more time to setup and pack away and you need to allow a bit of dry time.

    STO LT on order to replace our aging Quigley 4x4 Roadtrek (Chevrolet) which has been bulletproof. I wanted the Ford chassis because dealers and aftermarket parts are available anywhere despite disadvantage of a less capable AWD system. I've also heard of too many "adventures" with other chassis and it's dealers. Hopefully STO will let you compare an LT in the future. Couldn't agree more on fears of integrated electronic controls which can die catastrophically or become obsolete overnight. Isn't that Overlanding 101?? I'd go for Storyteller. Depending on availability I would chose the classic and modify/customize as needed, but any of the Sprinters would be great. Wasn't a huge fan of the Ford cockpit, but it looks functional as well. The Revel looks really nice too (haven't seen one in person though - the inside anyway). Full time living I think the bathroom could be nice, but think that the hard walls lock in (or out) the usability of the areas around it. The front seating option looks better in the STO, as does the stock garage/bed area. Two categories of purchasers seems a bit short sided, surely there is middle ground between full time living and pure disposable income. It seems perfect for travel nursing - daily driver, to and from/between contracts, exploring new areas while working, and a potential living space if other furnished housing is unavailable. Nice comparison, thanks for all the information and perspective.

Yes Im happy with my Revel which is modded as I go so my principal was luckily low

    Classic Mode, maybe even the LT Transit once some mods start coming out. Halo shower is awesome but I'd like if the pan didn't taper off, looks like a good four inches less shower space in an already small space.
    Intrigued by the new Jayco Terrain, basically looks like a higher quality Revel. However like the Revel it is over $200k, ouch.

    Great video. I have a beast on the way, hopefully only 3 more months. I am terrible at building out vehicles, so wanted something I could use out of the box. Living 3 hrs from the ocean and 3 from the mountains makes it a great mobile base camp. Hey it’s cheaper than a beach house :) looking forward to my annual trip out west for some van camping and mountain biking.

    Based on the prices and features you have mentioned the Story Teller is a no brainer. It's cheaper and has more unique features like Volta system, halo shower, instant hot water and of course the Groove lounge. The Story Teller just seems like outright the better van (without mods) so I'm surprised it is cheaper lol.

    Thanks Talon for this comparison video and the recent Stealth videos. (Actually for all your videos)
    In the past 5 years ,we have driven ,rented and talked to multiple campervan owners and convertors. We owned a VW Eurovan campervan for about 10 yrs also. We want a vehicle that can go on some rougher forest roads that we have in Oregon and the PNW. We debated about Revel vs Storyteller and decided to wait to see if Storyteller would build on the Transit . When they announced in July 2021 that this would occur we put our deposit down. (Still don't know when we will get it). The Mode LT clicked for us secondary to liking gas more than diesel, having more locations to get work performed, had all wheel drive, liked the open interior with the halo shower and can run the A/C off the batteries for a number of hours. This was important to allow us to hike on some trails that prohibit dogs esp in National Parks while our boxer and lab can chill in the van. Thanks again for all your effort in getting informational videos out to us!

    I was seriously considering the storyteller but as of July 5th their prices went up 20k on all models. So their base model mode was $157k and is now $175k. This is for all of their vans 2023. Seems alot of people on their facebook group were upset about the price increase because their orders suddenly went up $20k. Many people were frustrated on the facebook post and said they were cancelling their order. Whereas I've seen the winnebago revel, jayco terrain and the entegra launch for as low as $145k. You are getting different things with STO vs terrain,revel & launch but I personally don't think its worth $20k extra.

    I was with a revel on a west coast vacation tour. The revel did everything well. I used the little bath room often ( I´m 6,2"), my cannondale mtb was stored flat and with the wheels removed under the bed. The hole set up was comfortable. When it comes to purchase a sprinter van, I would go with the larger 170´wheelbase like the wbg boldt is, but with no twin-tires in the rear. A wbg revel with 170" wb and 40 inch more cargo room, a larger, longer bed, no flares, would be my with list.

    I love the Storyteller, but I want a toilet. I don't live out west so I don't have BLM land. I really want a functional toilet in the van. If someone modified Storyteller with a cassette or natures head toilet, I would do that. But I haven't seen a good toilet in a storyteller. The shower I think is fine. I think the quality in the Storyteller is probably a little better too. So hopefully they will come out with a Ass mode version with a cassette toilet. I wonder if the groove lounge was a foot higher off the ground if that would work. If anyone knows of someone who has a good solution I would love a reply.

    I really like the openness of the storyteller. However, on the resale/used market,I would be hesitant. If someone Had not totally dried the shower area you would rapidly end up with mold/mildew. I am highly allergic, so would be worried that it had not been taken care of properly. There is no absolute way to get rid of mold/mildew if it once starts.

As you do modify you do mistake that cost money. But at same time nothing perfect from manufacture, unless you do work with costumes order, like a Sportmobiles.

    Saw a Revel for $154K at the recent Springfield (MA) RV Show. Storyteller is the second largest manufacturer of Sprinter 144 4X4 vans in the US (behind Winnebago) and the Transit chassis will be a huge winner for them, their dealer network is growing. The biggest difference right now is that you can actually go to a Winnebago dealer and buy a Revel, if you want a Storyteller, you are probably looking at a 9 - 15 month wait.
