    You could also add couple of cinnamon sticks and cardamom (tip: roast the while onions over the stove as it brings out the sweetness and juice). It makes it more flavorful as that’s what I do when I make pho Ca. You could add cilantro and scallion to your pho soup upon eating.

      Good point with the roasted onion.
      I think he shouldve added cinnamon sticks and black cardamon. Its basically one of the main ingredients to get the main flavor profile of pho.
      He just added cloves and star anise lol.

      @@checkin9251 does green cardamom work as well? I have never tried black cardamom so I don't know if the flavor is very different

    • @checkin9251
      @checkin9251 2 роки тому +5

      Unfortunately not. Green cardamom is totally different flavor than black cardamom. Check out asia stores, they normally have the black one. I never make pho without it, because it adds this unique flavor to it.

    I made this a few days ago and I loved it! I added an apple into a soup base (as I was told in Vietnamese restaurant it's done) so it was sweet and spicy from a chilli sauce. Next time I won't use the potato because it soaked up all the salt and I had to keep adding more.

    My vietnamese friend always eats Pho at amazing restaurants and i always wanted to try but the stock is made with meat so my heart broke a little. Im so happy i found this recipe, will definitely try! One question: what do you do with those beautiful veggies afterwards?? I don't want to throw them away.

    • @YEUNGMANCOOKING

      @@YEUNGMANCOOKING plz don't throw or compost them....you could make. Puree and stuff it in paranta (indian bread) or perhaps use it on plain toast with some seasoning....
      Why waste them!!

    I made this the other day and the cloves in it were overwhelming. The clove overpowered the entire pot. It was a huge bummer as it was my first time making pho.

      Way too much cloves, my tongue is getting numb. I’m gonna try a tsp next time instead cuz otherwise it had lots of other flavor

    ok I made this soup recently, and I am blown away. it is super delicious the way presented in this video and is versatile to use in other cooking as well. maybe it's just me, but it tastes even better when served at room temperature, I don't know how that is possible cuz I always thought cold soup was vile. but this is SO GOOD and having it with a bit of warm white rice is so much more delicious than you would expect lol

      there's one thing I nEED to know tho, I'd be delighted if u have an answer for me. the potato in the broth confuses me. it did turn out well, but I learned that u don't make stock from potato because of solanin (which is no real issue anymore with modern potatos) and because the potato tends to soak up flavor instead of releasing it. now, I couldn't find any information on the internet what a potato can contribute to a clear broth, but my bet is starches ? for the texture? pls let me know what your thoughts are this is keeping me up at night lol

    I could eat Phô everyday! ...but with a dash of Fish Sauce. I like it served with the broth and noodles together, then bring to the table a mixture of items: vinegar, fish sauce, coriander, bay leaves and bean sprouts. I lke to taste my added mixtures at the table to make it fun and different each time. Oh yes, some sriracha sauce too. The broth is key. It's not good when it tastes like water
