I got the Gochigaru powder so I am all set with all the ingredients for the Umami powder. You have introduced through your videos some of the best techniques in chinese cooking which really work.     I only have access to portobello mushrooms where I live but I just purchase three large ones in a pack. Maybe I’ll try it with those. Always enjoy your fine presentation! 😸

    I just made this. I was a bit hesitant because I didn't like the smell of some of the mushrooms, but I trust Yeung recipes. It ended up being SO DELICIOUS. I made it will whole rice. I boiled the whole rice for about 20 minutes and drained before going on with the recipe. I also baked some chickpeas along with the mushrooms.
    I didn't have all the ingredients for the urmami spice, but it still came out great. One of the ingredients I did have are peppercorns, which I've never used peppercorns before. I just had some in a container with my bay leaves. They added so much flavor! I'll try to find the other ingredients for the future.

    Looks delish! Technical question: Did you wash all the mushrooms first, or just use them right out of the package. Always wondered about what the recommended procedure is....wash or no wash prior to cooking.

    I watched your umami powder vid (your link in the comment). Thank you so much for sharing. I will indeed make this powder as I see me using it in many dishes. I do love fresh shitake mushrooms and I never thought about powdering up the dried shitake to make a seasoning out of it. I can see me using this in rice, soups and salads. thanks again!🤩

    Rice dishes can be so amazingly versatile and mushrooms are a powerhouse of nutrition. My partner loves mushrooms and enjoyes rice - I'm gonna' cook this for her next time I find myself in the bad-books 😉

    This recipe certainly looks easy to make like many of your other recipes. Last Saturday I made a large batch of one of your veggie noodle stir fries, it lasted me the weekend. I recently sprained my ankle and have been having to lay low for awhile, always looking for recipes that are easy to make and take little time. Wil, do you think you can make some famous Chinese breakfast recipes? I really struggle with finding what to make for breakfast that is both healthy and easy.

    Man, I love your channel and the recipes here. It's the first place I go to when I need inspiration. But please provide alternatives for stuff like the umami powder and chilli oil. I do not always have time to go down 2-3 recipes to make something quick and delicious.

    Could the rice step be started in a sauté pan and then transferred to a rice cooker to finish the process? Or would that mess up the process?

    Oh, Wil! This is truly stunning - and I'm betting it tastes 100 times better than it looks which is saying a LOT! Have you ever done a clay pot rice? That bit of rice that is crispy at the bottom reminded me of it! I would miss the Lap Xuong but something tells me you would persuade me to try it without! lol Thanks, for this delicious recipe! =]

      Dark soy sauce is a bit sweeter and adds that deep dark rich colour and flavour to dishes 👌🏻
