Got to say, the originals got that eerie vibe and look in then that got lost in the remake, they're so clean on it that they kinda look like villains of cartoons. And even the ones with exposed muscles feel like they're made of wood and not muscle tissue, like they tried to censor a game about zombies
From artistic standpoint, the original looks way better in term of color design. What with modern game and their constant use of washed out colors, where's the nice striking contrast colors like the OG? Especially when in old game you can tell the bright enemy apart from dark background, while the new one they kinda blended in ugly brown blue?
A lot of the enemies in the original are a lot browner than in this video. I dunno if this is the PC port of the original or maybe the blood filter turns everything with a red tint into that fluorescent green but the arcade game is pretty guilty of things blending into the background too.
While the remake is definitely good graphics-wise, one of the things that detracts from the horror aspect of the zombies in the remake would be their faces, the original ones have a cold, indifferent and static face. This, coupled with the low-poly low-res models and the drawn-in shading give an uncanny macabre feel to them, which by itself is just a byproduct of the limited technology they had at the time. Meanwhile, the new ones do have detailed expressions and bodily features but most of them just have this silly-looking 'grrrrr angery' face that I just can't take seriously.
I still prefer the original. This was a game i played when i was 3 and a half years old. I still remember it vividly and i still play it from time to time. The remake is worse in every way possible
I will comment for some creatures not all: Neil: I like the original one because I like his black outfit with belt visible. Cyril: Remake's Cyril doesn't look impressive, they did not make him look original unlike in Scarlet Dawn. Bourbon: Original design looks better while the remake looks like they took inspiration from Last of Us because of the fungus on Bourbon's body. Vincent: Both look great, I really like how their hair and moustache look 80s and 90s. Harris: Both look great as well, taking 90s appearance, but I like original better for his moustache and hair. Sam: Original's better.
I personally really love this remake and hope they remake HOTD 3, 4, and finally release Scarlet Dawn on PS5. I really enjoy that one in arcades and don’t know why they haven’t ported it for home consoles. Unfortunately I missed 3 and 4 back during the PS3 days when they were available on PSN bc I hadn’t kept up with gaming. I only went back to it years later when the PS4 had come out.
The original is miles better, and not just in art direction and character design, but also gameplay wise, it just feels better and more satisfying to blast those horrendous creatures back to the Hell they came from. Every hit is SEEN and FELT on the creature's body, and the blood effect is just better too
OG Kageo, Gilbert and Harris are better than the Remake, but the rest still very similar to the originals. I think the creatures shouldn't have pupils, the lack of these in the original make them more scarier.
I would say the remake had better modelling of the zombies But the og had better movement and attacking pattern than the remake.....specially the remake couldn't model the idle movements of the zombies properly
I really didn't like the speed change in Magician, OG is fast af and felt really great to fight him along with the music, Remake is slow as a snail and the music is terrible, plus seems he lost some weight and got smaller. Another boss I didn't like is Chariot, in OG he's tall, fast, erratic and you felt small, but the Remake seems like a bad cosplay specially in his 2nd phase, too much detail for the flesh Another thing I didn't like is how the fully detailed faces made the enemies worse, the OG desings have those faces void of any emotion, almost like a permanent shock state, they felt uncanny, take Larry as an example, in the remake he looks like my neighbour that's 60 years old and has some STD, in the original he looks like a demon who's hiding under a fake skin. Look at Gilmore as another instance, why tf does he looks like the Lizard from Spiderman, I know there are reptiles in HOTD universe but wtf, the original is literally someone who's skin got ripped appartand there's only muscle, imagine seeing a body without skin. Also, take notes on how they stand, Larry looks like he has some back problems and his shoulders hurt, OG Larry is about to assault you, Samson hold his chainsaw on the air and you can't predict when is he going to attack; Simon looks sick with his V shaped torso, Remake is too rectangular; Kageo looks horrifying but in the remake he looks like a plant, the only one I think that looks better in the remake is the Ebitans, specially C, that still looks horrifying. I really hope there's a HOTD 2 remake, but I want it to be made with the proper animations and feelings.
Lo unico que no me gusta del remake, es que los enemigos que muerden o golpean con cabezasos antes lo hacian estrellando la pantalla, ahora solo parece que te dan un beso de lejos, le falta mas agresividad a la hora de atacar
Anyone claiming that the old one is better, is irrefutable proof that some people are just simple-minded. They prefer things that are done with less care and at a more childish level of art, rather than appreciating works that show the effort and professional artistry of experienced artists, resulting in polished and sensible creations. It's like the difference between people who prefer prison beer over aged wine!!
It's not about the art design its the physics and a less impactful gameplay making it bad. Speaking of less care i think the remaake is the one made with less care

Honestly I like the remake too, they're pretty faithful recreations to the original with some neat details.

@@johnmcmahon770this is the emulated arcade version.
@@日本語学科者 Is the blood settings changed to something besides red? The one at my local arcade doesn’t have these really bright colors.

Dude that was exactly what I thought!
I just compared the new creatures with Scooby Doo villains monsters xD
The sounds are definitely an improvement over the original “Scared old geezer” attack noise lol
Classic designs have no point of comparison, they are perfect

The original looks better overall but some of the little details are nice in the remake.

Older just looks better, simple as.

Same here, I can't wait for hotd 2 and hotd 3 remakes!
I hope they remake the other games I hope they do because I really love house of the dead but will see

You should do a comparison of the System Shock remake
The remake isn't as nearly as bad as they make it to be.

I agree, and the exposed muscles should look like exposed muscles. Not like they're made of wood like Groot
Honestly, the remake was good,
(Better on PC though).
Can’t wait to see how they do HOTD2 (if they do).
Honestly, i'd love house of the dead 2-4 to also get a remake.. or at least a steam release.
Ok, tbh. I didnt know that the undead had names besides the bosses ofc.
Sam and Ivan are surely twins.
