You know, the voice acting in House of the Dead games has always been terrible, but I find it impossible to hate. Maybe it's just nostalgia goggles, but the absolute sincerity of this ridiculous story makes for some great high camp.
and it's funny how when being a teenager, the graphichs and the story kind of impressed you, when seeing them today they are super basic...i remember thsi game from the Arcade locals where you could play it using a laser pistol instead of a joystick. By 2005 it was still competing against PS2 and the Resident Evil 4 which had been released that year, but still if you could not afford a PS2, those arcades were the best option to play videogames cheaply.
Honestly 3 had some of the better voice acting..... Which isn't saying much. I think the only ones with somewhat decent voice acting was overkill and 4.

One thing that has my head scratching is why Death did not attack Daniel Curien when he walked in to help Rogan, unless it’s because he’s a Curien he was created to listen to Daniel
I played this so much on the original xbox. Unlocked so may secrets. The best being the house of the dead 2 as a unlocked game you could play, then unlock all the secrets that game has too. So fun. I can safely say id survive a zombie apocalypse for at least a day.

Evidently some kind of selective-fire modification with the forestock basically just serving as a charging handle after reloading. By no means an impossible or implausible setup, just realistically highly impractical between the comically limited ammo capacity of the underbarrel tube mag and the recoil issues that make full-auto shotguns an inherently problematic concept (which would be here made much worse by the absence of stock). An experimental weapon along these lines was actually devised for and field-tested by US Special Forces during the Vietnam War (IIRC a modification of one of the common Remington or Ithaca shotties) but dropped specifically due to those problems. The actual eyeroll bit is how they somehow reload the thing in less than a second... but that comes with the territory in this entire game genre.

Si colocabas dos fichas podías jugar con una pistola en cada mano, recuerdo, o en su lugar jugar con un compañero. Por aquellos momentos aun habían locales de arcade en los cuales recuerdo simuladores de autos como el Daytona, el Virtua Tennis 2, juegos de pelea como Mortal Kombat, King of Fighters y Street Fighter, varios flippers (el de Arma Mortal 4, Terminator 2, Dracula y otros) y el eterno Pacman. Pensar que ya estaba la Play 1 y acababa de salir la 2 pero para los amantes de videojuegos que no tenían como comprarlas, los locales de arcade eran la mejor opción. Otros tiempos.

En cuanto al juego, tristemente yo solo llegué a ver The House of the Dead 2 en las arcadias aquí en Venezuela, ya que por ese entonces estaban empezando las prohibiciones de los videojuegos violentos aquí, pero al menos pude jugar bastante esa versión (también hice lo de pagar 2 fichas por 2 pistolas XD)

Ohh. I remember way back in the day playing this at the arcade, it captivated me using the shotguns and reloading them. And then my dad got it for me as a gift on the original xbox. He'd have to help me on the bosses and would surprise me with me with him completing a level and progressing on for me. This game would terrify me as a kid. But my dad would always be like it's all okay. You see how I kill them. Now it's why I love horror games so much now. I love youuu dad!!! Fun fact: the guy and mini boss is yukio was meant to be player 2 and when Rogan says “how many of these things are there” that was actually Yukio voice

This was always my least favourite HOTD game. I never liked the mushy graphics, repetitive locations and the reload delay, which is one of the most bullshit things in the entire series.
I’ve been playing this game again on my og Xbox recently and… dear god… the reload is so ass😭 the only time I ever take damage is when I don’t have enough time to react because of the reload. And the stupid sloth and the wheel of fate make me want to cry💀 I play on very hard with max lives and still lose at the end stage of wheel of fate most times 🥲
